Nice! I have a stage 3 B9.5 S4 and my wife has a 2019 Q7 Prestige. When the lease ended on the Q7, I tried to convince her to step up to a SQ7 but she wasn't feeling it.
You gotta let her drive it. My wife and I test drove the Q7 and I bought an SQ7 that day. When we went to pick it up and she drove it, she was very excited and liked it more than then Q.
@@Vaguh yeah, she thought it was going to have like more bells and whistles. She didn’t realize it was a performance model, which isn’t really what she’s into. In fact, she probably would’ve been ok with the 2.0L but I said no way. It had to be the 3.0 at a minimum.
Did you do the APR Plus with warranty or just stage 1 91 octane? Also why did you pick APR over IE for the SQ7? I have an SQ8 and have seen good reviews on the IE Stage 1. Just hesitant to void my warranty. What are you getting 0-60 and 1/4 mile with the tune?
At this time I went with APR because it was all that was available and I did not get plus. I also have the IE tune which is great too, I just haven’t had a chance to get it to the dyno. I helped do beta testing on the IE tune and can run the 93 tune so it’s able to push a bit more power for me, plus we have ethanol near by so, I really like that option. 0-60 is about 3.2 and I do t know on the 1/4 mile yet.
Which do you like better for daily driving? APR or IE? I have heard the IE is a bit smoother and more linear and APR can be abrupt with the power delivery. Thoughts? @@Vaguh
Great videos man! I noticed washington plates , do you have any recommendations where in Washington, could help with installing this APR tune? Also did you get a check light after installing it?
We’ve been looking for a whiiiile. I think we’re going with the 2020 ford explorer ST but the Q7s are the other option that we’ve been seriously considering. Is maintenance really that bad on the audis? I do all my own work and I dont feel like the ford will be that much better maintenance wise..
@@Javii96 maintenance is pretty easy. I do all my own maintenance as well. I might not be the best person to ask, but I don’t think it’s any worse than any other car. We looked at the explorer, I didn’t like where the e brake was on the drivers foot well.
@@Vaguh thanks for the reply. I heard timing chains are a common thing that need done at fairly low mileage on the v6 audi, not sure about the v8. I did basic research on OBDEleven, sounds like it allows you to do some basic things dealerships do like program new batteries, etc. even the explorer headlights are more expensive than the audi’s i think folks are just scared of the audi platform from the previous generations reputation tbh. it sounds like either car are great. What an awesome daily. Cheers
Certainly very interesting, given that the SQ7 has a detuned EA825. That check engine light on your SQ7 is a huge red flag, though, Not worth a tune until that is cleared up. Remember even though you can clear those codes Audi still is able to see that in history and deny warranty.
Actually that check engine light was from running on the dyno, cleared up right away under normal driving. As for the tune, depending on which one you go with, the tunes reset the flash counter giving Audi no easy way to flag the car as TD1 as long as you flash back to stock before going into a dealer.
@@VaguhHi There. I have a 2021 SQ7 Prestige. Unfortunately my car has been sitting at the Audi dealer for two full months. After they had it for 42 days they told me my engine was blown and I need a whole new engine. My car has 30,647 miles on it. On Sept 9 as I was pulling into a parking garage at JFK airport the car flashed a warning light briefly and I didn’t even get to see what the warning light was. An hour later when I went to leave after dropping off some friends the instrument cluster lit up like the proverbial Christmas tree. Basically the main warning said reduced engine function or something similar. Check engine light came on and some other stuff related to Autostop/start function. Pretty soon I figured out the car was in limp mode and limited to a few thousand revs. I had about 10 or 12 miles to drive home and I was in heavy traffic and couldn’t do any speed anyway. As I got closer to home I could tell the engine was getting worse and firing on fewer cylinders. When I got off the highway close to home I began to worry that if I got home this thing was not going to start again. I decided to continue drive a few miles further to get straight into the dealership (it was close to 6pm). By the time I got to the dealership the engine was sounding a bit rough and probably running on 3 or 4 cylinders. I was not a happy camper. Long story short, the next day they diagnosed the problem as the Oil Separator. Waited over 10 days for this part to supposedly come from Germany. I could tell from the Audi app on my phone every time they started the car because all the warning messages would pop up on my phone. So when I saw some action on my phone I would stop by the dealer to see what was going on. First time this happened I figured ok they got the oil separator in …… nope, they said some “hose” came and it didn’t solve the problem and now they were going to get the oil separator. Waited another week or so and it came ……. This did not solve the problem. Next they said it needed a low pressure fuel pump. Wait another week plus for this to come from Canada. After changing that part they said I had a vacuum leak which they couldn’t find. I asked if I could speak with the shop foreman who was working on my car (this was around day 38). This guy came out to the service counter looking like Connor McGregor arriving at the weigh in for a UFC fight. Guy gave me a real shitty attitude because I mentioned I had found a comment on Audiworld Forum that the SQ7 engine had a known issue with the oil separator going and leading to a vacuum leak and blown vacuum pump. I was mentioning this as it seemed to coincide with what they were telling me was wrong. He got a snippy attitude with me and told me that unlike me he could not Google stuff. Three days later I get a call from the girl who was dealing with me from service to tell me my engine was blown and they were ordering a complete new engine from Germany. It is now day 60 and they still do not have an ETA on the engine. On day 42 they said it was going to be 4 to 6 weeks for the engine to get here. God knows when the engine will show or how long they will take to put it in. As soon as I was told about the engine replacement I enquired about trading my car for a new one. My existing car is Glacier white like yours with the red leather interior which I would like again. This combination in the Prestige with some extras is not available until maybe March of next year. I am not happy with this whole situation. I loved this car and this engine and was really considering keeping the car for several more years beyond the original warranty which will expire in July 2025. I had just priced the Audi extended warranty right before this breakdown….. to extend to 10 years 120K miles is roughly $6,800. Moral of my story is …… be careful about doing mods which may void warranty (I didn’t thank god). Don’t own a car like this without warranty unless you are very good at working on your car and have deep pockets for parts. I think I may just have been unlucky with what has happened with my engine but I would be major screwed if I was outside warranty. I cringe to think what this engine will cost. I am also a little skeptical of the dealership….. why did it take 42 days to come to the conclusion that my engine was toast. I would love to get some explanation from the mechanic as to how he came to this point …… what does he think is actually wrong with it. Don’t know if I will be able to get any help from him given his shitty attitude so far. On day 38 when I spoke with him he copped an attitude with me and said “if you like, I can put your car back together and you can drive it” …… 3 days later they tell me the engine is no good. I hope you get to see this comment ……. I would love to know how many miles on your car and if you have had any issues? P.S. I changed all brake pads at 25,500 miles and also did oil changes at 5,500 - 6,000 miles myself.
The first time I drove my stage 1 APR tuned car. I almost crash it pulling out a parallel parking spot that I have done a thousand times. The power came so early, I almost didn't turn the wheel fast enough to clear the car in front, so I HOPE you warned your wife that you have tuned her car. :)
@vaguh- thanks for the great videos. I’m about to get APR stage 1 91 on our SQ7, but I was also wondering about the IE tune. Seems like APR is getting a little more power out of stage 1 but I like the idea of the tcu as well. How does the APR tune compare to IE with tcu? Is the SQ7 APR throttle too touchy or does it do a good job of taking away the throttle lag that comes from Audi? Appreciate your feedback.
