I picked up a shield plus while S&W was doing a rebate for 3 free magazines. Ended up getting three 15 round mags for it. I wasn’t aware they worked either but was super pumped when I got them.
@@tongueofdisco4122 I tried to get in on that, but I bought mine one month early. Stupid ol' S&W should have given them to me anyway after all the hell they put me through with my Poorformance Sinner. 😏
@tongueofdisco4122 same here. I sent off for my 3 magazines for the rebate and was pleasantly surprised that I got 15 rounders. Sadly, one magazine accepts only 14 rounds no matter how much I try.
Ahoy there ! You will probably only be allowed to use 10rd magazines, correct ? I'll be glad when they finally axe that law because it is SO unconstitutional. I think that's one that's being challenged now, right (or is upcoming) ? Thanks for your feedback, and thanks so much for watching ! 😬
@@whatwouldlewdo Yes you are correct we will be receiving 2 10rd magazines with the purchase. It really is a shame I believe the most recent attempt to lift the ban wasn’t successful(back in October) and I don’t know if there’s anything coming up soon. It totally is unconstitutional not to mention we’re paying the same if not more for the same gun with a smaller magazine.
Bummer. Well, at least you can get the grip extension for the 10rd mags. I really like the way it looks with that on there. Functional AND aesthetically pleasing. 😁
An open bottom holster is ACTUALLY GOING TO KEEP LESS DUST AND HAIR out of your firearm. If the bottom is closed, it will carry all the dust, lint, hair, and dirt that falls off and around you all the time and have it meshing with your firearm. Open bottom allows all the stuff to fall out.
XS big dot is super fast sight acquisition and works extremely well. Red dots are fine but need a lot of practice as you do not want to be fumbling around in a dangerous situation.
You're correct about the need to practice red dots. However, I'm not sure I would go changing the internals to my pewstolas, as that introduces more for room for error. Thanks for your feedback, and thanks for watching.! 😊
@@whatwouldlewdo hey there! I am completely ignorant but looking to own a gun soon, so I want to ask, what internals would be changed in this scenario? I thought new iron sights or red dots were just placed on top of the slide? Unless you’re referring to the milling required to put a red dot on a gun that isn’t optics ready. I appreciate any explanation so I know what not to do to my firearm to avoid malfunction. Thanks 🙏🏽
@@notever8401 As far as internals go, usually folks will swap out triggers or recoil springs, but that's about it. Honestly the trigger on this is great, so no need to change anything inside. We have two versions -- this one, and the Performance Center model. The PC model has no cut for an optic, but it's ported for recoil reduction. Therefore if someone wanted an optic for the PC version, unfortunately milling would be the only option. I hope that answers your question. Let me know if I can help with anything else. Thanks so much for watching !
I own an M&P 2.0 10mm with a 4.625 inch barrel no safety lever and put a Carver Custom Tungsten HEAVY Guide Rod replacing the lighter stainless steel guide rod. Had it quad ported by Mag-Na-Port. X/S steel optic height night sights with aluminum mounting plate mounted Holosun 508T titanium red dot. Apex aluminum flat safety lever trigger upgrade. Floyd’s aluminum base plate one round added with no spring change upgrade to hold 16 rounds over 15 rounds.
Me personally, I don't tinker with the internals. My mods are primarily on the outside. I just think it's safer that way, but to each his own, as they say. 😊 Thanks for adding to the conversation, and thanks for watching !
@@jeffreylocke8808 My main concern is the reliability and longevity of the aftermarket parts as opposed to the competency of the installer. A lot of these aftermarket companies making these components aren't held to the same level of scrutiny as the gun manufacturers. As for the quad porting, wouldn't it have been cheaper to get the PC model with the factory ports ? I know that milling can be quite steep ! 😳
I would have went with a kit from Mag Guts instead of the Pierce pinky extension. The Mag Guts kit comes with a pinky extension and increases capacity to 13+1.
@@DaGunbunny I'm aware of the Magguts extension, but I don't like the way it looks. The Pearce Grips blends in well. Thank you for your suggestion though. Also thanks for watching ! 😊
A bit of friendly advice, you should get a holster that completely covers the trigger. I couldn’t really tell if that one does because you never put the gun in it it but it doesn’t look like it does. Especially for appendix carry.
Yes, it covers the trigger completely. None of my holsters leave the trigger exposed. I know better than that. LOL Thanks for your feedback, and thanks for watching. 😊
@@seanpellegrino2989 There was no other option for the grip plug when I posted this video, which is why I used the M&P 9 plug and just slightly modified the fitment.
Now it does cost more than a standard pinky extension, but mag guts sells a conversion kit for the 10 rounder that gives you the pinky extension but also adds 3 rounds without adding any lenth.
Yes, I'm aware of the Magguts extension. I prefer the looks of the Pearce Grip extension. However, I can't argue against getting the extra rounds being less beneficial. LOL Thanks for watching, mate !
I've used Mag guts on my P365 and P365XL for over a year now quite successfully & they finally became available for the Shield Plus 10 round mags only. The extension looks the same as the ones in your video but adds 3 rounds. And it doesn't add any length to the back side of the mag. I have talked with other IDPA competitors and we all agree that the only good thing about night sights is that you can see where the gun is on your night stand. They serve no other purpose as you cannot see their luminosity when any surrounding light comes on. So for me who shoots in day, dusk, & at night, fiber optic sights and good 3 dot white sights work the best (as what all comes with the Shield Plus), with night sights being the next best, & the worst sights are thin & poorly painted white 3 dot sights (like on the suppressor height sights on the CZ P10C). I also took the light off of the Shield Plus as it conceals better & is easier to handle as there is more room in the trigger guard without it. It being physically smaller is also a plus when carrying.
I've heard of Magguts, but I'm not sure the added mass to the grip is worth the two extra rounds. The one you mentioned for the P365XL, for instance: It looks about as long as the 17rd mag, which is not ideal for carry. I think the 12rd OEM mag is the sweet spot. Plus I haven't seen an offering from Magguts where I thought it looked better than any other company, but as they say, "beauty is in the eye of the beholder."
Get a crimson trace red dot can pick one up for 80 to a $120. Works really well with the iron sights as well. Definitely worth the money for the average person!
I did actually. Just haven't gotten around to reviewing it yet. I actually found a cheap one on PSA for about $70 on sale to test the realm of the red dot world. It definitely has some drawbacks, but it served its purpose. Thanks for your suggestion, and thanks so much for watching. 😊
Thanks so much for the compliment ! I have tried the 15 rounder yet. I'm sure it would be good for training, but probably a lot hard to conceal than the the 12 Rd mag.
@@jllrue I only have the 13 rounder at the moment. I picked up a couple of pocket mag carriers that I'm trying out for review. Not sure if I prefer them over just shoving a mag in the pocket. We shall see. Thanks for your feedback and thanks for watching ! 😁
I got the DPP plate with the Holosun 507k and it cowitness’ perfectly with the sights on yours. I have the exact same model. I chose to not run the TLR6. I instead EDC the Arkfeld flat light for my PID, but I’m prior military and have a ton of practice running low light drills. I recommend all go through a class to learn that philosophy. I do recommend a red dot even on a pocket rocket. It just speeds things up crazy fast. In my view it’s more likely you may be rescuing someone else verses yourself and that red dot will come in handy.
I was SO close to getting a dot, but got the wrong size, and the appropriate model is the wrong price. 😆 I now have two different OR pewstolas, so one of them will definitely end up with a dot on it sooner or later. @@whatwouldlewdo they are definitely expensive. The one I have on mine costs just as much as the firearm lol. At the end of the I decided for what I gain was worth the cost. Holosun 507K X2. Dremel the rear 2 posts down flush, file the front two posts down a millimeter or so, seal it all back up with Birchwood Casey Perma Blue, and replace the optic screws with JagerWerks (the Holosun screws are less than optimal). It fits perfectly. I run an optic because of my eyes. I wear progressive lenses, and if they shift, or fall off, I can't see the stock sights to acquire a sight picture. The circle dot reticle also plays well with my stigmatism. Extended thumb safety. A lot of us hate the thumb safety and don't use it (noticed Lew's was off during the video). There's a guy on the pistol-forum that has started making an extended thumb safety. I've just reached out to get one to try. The grip texture is abusive against my skin (I carry IWB at 3:30). Light sandpaper on the grip and a finishing file on the mag release took care of it.
Not sure I want to take a Dremel to my pewstola, but I am aware that it is an option. I'm not sure why you would want an extended thumb safety if you don't like to use it. Did I miss something there ? LOL The grip doesn't bother me because I wear a compression shirt (AKA workout shirt) underneath and it doesn't bother me at all. Conversely I have worn it without the shirt underneath on days when it wasn't hot (to avoid sweating on the gun) and I didn't notice it at all. Perhaps it's a tender skin issue for some folks. I'm not sure. 🤷🏻♂️ Thanks so much for adding to the conversation, and thanks for watching ! 😁
having carried a shield for 10 years (since it came out) heres some of my input. holster is totally up to the individual. i personally went back to an OWB pancake with my shield. i honestly wouldnt bother with the pearce grip extension.. i had it, and at the end of the day, i wanted more rounds than just comfort, so i bought more extended mags from smith. i can still stuff the gun in my pants pocket. my old mag with the pearce is somewhere in my range bag lol. the channel in the grip is for a couple of things.. both of which gaston glock has spoken on in past lectures when he was alive. the "void" as he called it was for sand and water to drain out of if being serviced in the field by the military. also a lanyard could be fixed into that area as well. i think later on they found they could strip mags with it. nothing is really gonna "get up in there" if you check and clean your gun periodically you'll be fine. As for that streamlight light.. save your money. 100 lumens is NOT enough to be effective in stopping an assailant coming at you. its just not.. my pocket carry light that uses one battery has almost 700 lumens. you're weapon mounted light isnt supposed to be used to scan a scene and look for anything.. its to light up a target, blinding the target and giving you an advantage.. you should NEVER use a weapon mounted light to survey an area. because if you come across an innocent person or a family member you're now pointing a loaded gun at them with a light on it, if its a stranger and depending on what state you're in, it could be classified as brandishing or even assault. always carry a separate flashlight if you're carrying a small shield. dont buy a 100 lumen night light and put it on the gun. while lately i've been wanting a gun with an optic, i held a shield recently with one and.. other than looks and ooh ahhh factor, theres (in my opinion only) no reason to have a red dot on a gun this small. ive been shooting long enough to know that i can hit anything i aim at within 7-14 yards lol. and thats where i see the shield coming into play as a close up SD weapon. im considering sending my 5 inch m&p 2.0 to Floyds custom and have them mill it for a red dot :) good video, i disagree about the light
I hear Floyd's does good work when it comes to customizing firearms, so you shouldn't be disappointed. However I've not used them for myself, so I'm not making a recommendation.

I have the Holo Sun model HS 507 K X2 on my Shield plus. I like the 407 K green dot better that I have on my 365. Anyway I have old eyes , so the dot works better for me. I didn't use an adapter plate. I wanted to co witness my sights that come with the gun. I wanted the sight to sit low, so I ground off the little tips sticking up that were in the way of the Holosun. I have the ten round extended finger rest and the plug. I chose to carry a light at night so I can holster my gun in my regular no light holsters for the shield. I choose no light for concealed carry, because I think if I had to use at night ,it would be in a store or lighted parking lot possibly ? Anyway at home I have a light on my larger home defense gun, because more than likely things happen at night , when your asleep ?
I also have the 507K. It's a nice red dot, but the window is a bit tiny when compared to cheaper models. I have lights on all my handguns, but I also carry a small flash light too. Couple things... I've nothing but great performance with Vedder Holsters. I prefer the metal belt Clio they use vs the manufacturers that use plastic. Plus the metal clip doesn't protrude as much, so it doesn't print as much as the plastic style. The grip plug is purely asthetic. The hole does not extend in to the mechanics of the gun. I like the pinky extension for the 10 rd mag. May have to get one. The light is cool too! I didn't know those existed as an option since there's no rail on the Shield. Do you notice the light hindering you trigger finger?
Yes, the grip plug is purely aesthetic, but I'm pretty big on that, so a huge, gaping hole staring at me just wasn't going to work. LOL "At Vedder holsters, we pride ourselves on stalking people on the internet...and we hold true to that." I FINALLY stopped seeing their ads ! 😂 There's another grip extension that one of our viewers suggested by "Magguts" that add two more rounds, I think. That really depends on the model of the light/laser you're attempting to put on it, but they do have a few options available for this particular model. I believe one of them is from Crimson Trace, and I'm fairly confident that Streamlight has a light/laser combo.

Exactly that -- they would track my activity. Their ads began popping up on the different sites I would visit, and each time an ad popped up on UA-cam, it would be a Vedder Holsters ad. They aren't the only ones who use this type of unethical "remarketing" scam, but they surely did it more hardcore than any other company I've encountered...except for maybe VNSH Holster. Sig dropped the damn thing over 1000 times from 75 feet up with one in the chamber and it never went off. I don’t know much about the spectare sounds cool though. And the good ole plus. The Shield with a double stack mag and a better trigger. Perfect gun for carrying. Enough rounds and compact and still who cares what they say. Slim is nice but thicker is better for the hand and the follow up shot. I was gonna go Glock43x been contemplating for about a year. But I decided going to stay with the OG shield. No, that's paint. My PC model had a much better color in it that matched the writing on the side, but when I sent it back to S&W to fix the finish, they sent me a new slide, and the paint went bye bye. I don't like the way the Pierce grip extension angles down in the front. It would look better if it were parallel with the grip, like stock. Optics might be appealing to some, but the dot floats and sways left to right, up and down, in the optics and that can mess with people. Also the battery issue. They eat batteries.
@@DavidChatterton-j6b I like that angle. Otherwise the grip of the Shield Plus looks...chubby. For instance, when the 13rd mag is inserted, to me, it looks like an disproportionate fat girl. LOL

I appreciate any explanation so I know what not to do to my firearm to avoid malfunction. Thanks 🙏🏽
@@notever8401 As far as internals go, usually folks will swap out triggers or recoil springs, but that's about it. Honestly the trigger on this is great, so no need to change anything inside.
We have two versions -- this one, and the Performance Center model. The PC model has no cut for an optic, but it's ported for recoil reduction. Therefore if someone wanted an optic for the PC version, unfortunately milling would be the only option.

My gunsmith does the internals and Ken Kelly of Mag-Na-Port did the quad porting.

Extended thumb safety. A lot of us hate the thumb safety and don't use it (noticed Lew's was off during the video). There's a guy on the pistol-forum that has started making an extended thumb safety. I've just reached out to get one to try.

having carried a shield for 10 years (since it came out) heres some of my input.
holster is totally up to the individual. i personally went back to an OWB pancake with my shield.
i honestly wouldnt bother with the pearce grip extension.. i had it, and at the end of the day, i wanted more rounds than just comfort, so i bought more extended mags from smith. i can still stuff the gun in my pants pocket. my old mag with the pearce is somewhere in my range bag lol.
the channel in the grip is for a couple of things.. both of which gaston glock has spoken on in past lectures when he was alive. the "void" as he called it was for sand and water to drain out of if being serviced in the field by the military. also a lanyard could be fixed into that area as well. i think later on they found they could strip mags with it. nothing is really gonna "get up in there" if you check and clean your gun periodically you'll be fine.
As for that streamlight light.. save your money. 100 lumens is NOT enough to be effective in stopping an assailant coming at you. its just not.. my pocket carry light that uses one battery has almost 700 lumens. you're weapon mounted light isnt supposed to be used to scan a scene and look for anything.. its to light up a target, blinding the target and giving you an advantage.. you should NEVER use a weapon mounted light to survey an area. because if you come across an innocent person or a family member you're now pointing a loaded gun at them with a light on it, if its a stranger and depending on what state you're in, it could be classified as brandishing or even assault. always carry a separate flashlight if you're carrying a small shield. dont buy a 100 lumen night light and put it on the gun.
while lately i've been wanting a gun with an optic, i held a shield recently with one and.. other than looks and ooh ahhh factor, theres (in my opinion only) no reason to have a red dot on a gun this small. ive been shooting long enough to know that i can hit anything i aim at within 7-14 yards lol. and thats where i see the shield coming into play as a close up SD weapon.
im considering sending my 5 inch m&p 2.0 to Floyds custom and have them mill it for a red dot :)

Hi, Andrew. There are two options for the standard Shield Plus: one with an optic cut, and one without. It sounds like you purchased the one without. Unfortunately your only options would be to either buy the optics ready slide, or to get your current slide milled (cut) for an optic. Most places are pretty expensive, and cost almost as much as a new slide. However there is one company that does really good work that's also affordable. Check them out. Both brand grip extensions leave a gap in between?
The usual gap you get with the mag bases in general, yes, but it's no more than factory base plates. The one toward the back where the frame drops down also seems to be the same as the one you'd see with the S&W base pad.

Can I install a laser device on it? In performance center
That really depends on the model of the light/laser you're attempting to put on it, but they do have a few options available for this particular model. I believe one of them is from Crimson Trace, and I'm fairly confident that Streamlight has a light/laser combo.
Until more recent years, getting a red dot was more strictly optional. After being 40-something plus and needing the services of the optometrist and ophthalmologist, I have become more interested in an optic. You may get there soon.

What do you mean follow you around on the internet?
Exactly that -- they would track my activity. Their ads began popping up on the different sites I would visit, and each time an ad popped up on UA-cam, it would be a Vedder Holsters ad. They aren't the only ones who use this type of unethical "remarketing" scam, but they surely did it more hardcore than any other company I've encountered...except for maybe VNSH Holster. I also see those all the time. However, they don't pop up on my FB account, email account, Google accounts, etc, like Vedder will, so I would argue Vedder is far worse about using those "remarketing" (stalking) techniques.
@@whatwouldlewdo I asked because I'm a tagging and tracking expert. The reason you're seeing those ads more is because they pay for that. This is not perniscious or stalking behavior they are just spending a lot on ads. It's not something you need to worry about at all. These companies don't get your name or personal info, just your demographic info and then algorithms serve you ads. There's an entire, robust industry, that you don't hear much about but trust me it's not something you should worry about! I do this for a living! In the absence of marketing you might get ads for tampons or something haha
@@dtps_champion6016 I've actually had some companies begin emailing me after visiting their sites, and I'm like..."how did you even get my email?" 😂

Is this rust on the gun?
No, that was where I filled it in with color. It's actually red, but the camera made it look rather orange.
There is a gap on all magazines for all guns. To insert a magazine in any gun is just overcoming a spring and latch. You need the gap to crest over the mag catch fully. Just makes sure the mag is inserted completely. Also bothering to hear you have a dust and hair problem between your underwear and pants😂😂😂
So you're saying you don't get lint on your gun/optic/holster when you carry it ? Also, if you carry it without an under shirt, you're almost certain to get stray chest or belly hairs every now and again.
The hole at the bottom isnt to save on material its to add a backstrap
I've never even seen back straps for these, so I think you're wrong on that one. Besides, backstraps are held on by pins.
@@whatwouldlewdo it's held in place with a pin but it hooks into the bottom using that hole and I've never seen one for the shield plus either but that doesn't mean Smith and Wesson wants to eliminate the possibility of you ever having one
