In this installation of What Would Lew Do, we introduce the Shield Plus: Performance Center model, and provide an unfortunate update. This particular video (much like this particular model) was a living hell to get produced due to an audio sync issue. No matter how much we edited, it was never in sync.
Eventually we just decided to perform a screen capture while playing it in the editor, and exported it that way. As a result, the quality is lower at 1080 rather than what we generally produce, 4K/2K. Needless to say, we sure hope you guys enjoy this video. We fought and fought to bring this to your attention, but we finally won that war. LOL
If you found this video helpful at all, we simply ask that you strike that like, swell that bell, subscribe and vibe with us, and please share with others who may also benefit from this content ! Until next time -- take care, and God bless !

I have a regular Shield Plus, had it about 1.5 years... I bought the bug out model (came with a bag and 3 extra 13 round mags all for $429). None of the 13rd (extra) mags would lock up in the pistol and S&W replaced quickly. After about 400 rounds the trigger pin started to walk out. Rather than punch it back myself, I sent it back for repair, they replace the trigger assembly and got it back in 2 to 3 weeks. So far it has been fine and shoots very good for a small pistol. The company handled everything quickly and well.. Hope everyone has the same experience with Warranty ..Good Luck all..
@@cobia224... I think it's hit or miss with S&W these days. All my other M&P models have been tip top shape. The PC Shield Plus, however-- Dead On Arrival. LOL Thanks for your feedback, and thanks so much for watching !
Hi , and thanks for letting us know, well I want to say it is unusual with such a company Smith and Wesson they aren't a garbage company by any means, but yes it seems you've got a lemon and their customer service didn't handle this repair well and you wait a long repair time. I think they should take that lemon and turn it into a sweet Candy and compensate you with an additional free magazine or something after all that you've been through. Have a good day ❤
"When life gives you lemons, put some mags in 'em and fire a few rounds." 😂😂😂
My permit came in this morning. I was planning on picking up this gun this week but now I'm thinking I'm just. gonna get a Glock 43X. I don't need this type of trouble .
I work too hard for my money to get a defective gun. If it happens one it's probably happening to many. You got a factory second slide. The engraving probably made it defective. The terrible service is beyond a lemon
So, i had issues at the beginning with tha mags. After some months loaded, sitting on a desk, they hold 13 and 15 and they load relatively normally. But they are both still very tight inserting them into the gun when the slide is forward. Its because theres not enough springiness left over for the rounds to move down easily and allow the mag to lock into place.
Magguts is amazing and works very well. All in all i recommend it if you can find one for under 450 or so. Or just a shield plus regular model. Ive seen them for 300 bucks... Best value out there.
@@bdub0983The Magguts upgrade is the spring alone, or do you have to add their base plate too ?
@@whatwouldlewdo it's spring, follower, and baseplate.
@@bdub0983 The base plate was the part I didn't like. Doesn't blend well with the grip module in my opinion.
@@whatwouldlewdo it does add a great pinky extension though. It's not as flat at the factory plate. So it won't sit up on its own. But it's still pretty good. Only adds a 1/4 inch to the overall length but adds 3 rounds. Definitely makes the 10 rounders more usable.
I looked it up, and it's not what I thought it was. I thought it was this long and bulky aluminum extension, but the 10rd extension basically looks like the Pearce Grip extension (but with added benefit). I may have to check one of these out after all.
I own a standard Shield 2.0 that bought in 2018 for $319 and was my main carry for many years.
Couple of years ago and as soon as available I got the Shield Plus 4” Performance Center ported optics ready and paid a bargain $773 for it. ( msrp $889 )
I did notice a different, the trigger was smoother with noticeable polish parts, the slide was impressive, so smooth and also polished, not one mark from machining, the magazines are now black finished and smoother, the frame texture was also superior and lastly the mag release was now textured and raised slightly.
The 4inch slide is ported, shoots flat like a full size basically.
Now I wouldn’t hesitate to buy a basic M&P product but would always prefer a Performance Center one and the extra money is worth it for these perfect personal defensive pistols.
I am sorry about your experience, I would also be disappointed at S&W dropping the ball there.
Thanks for sharing your positive experience, friend. Like I said, I think this was just a lemon. However, the way that S&W went about it and drug it out SO long was the major thing that chafed my hide. LOL

I can’t believe they returned your Plus with a 2.0 slide 🤬 …. Unacceptable.
@@danielrodriguez5463 Right !? It completely changed the model ! 😆
Need another update man, bring more attention to this and hold these gun companies accountable
Ironically I've tried three times to film the update video, and there was a problem each time (primarily sound). Even the videos on this thing don't work right ! 😂
I'll get it done eventually. I just got so frustrated with wasting all that time that I sat it aside and worked on other projects. We will have an update soon though. Thanks for sticking with us. 😊
@@whatwouldlewdo you can try a voice over
Well I hope being a new sub will help out alittle for the blllsht. I'm waiting on my plus to come in and I will def check it out before all the final stuff. Thx for letting us know that this really can happen to us from a huge OEM Company. Looking forward to your final update and I hope it's good. Thanks !
Much obliged for the subscription, mate ! I was trying to film some B-Roll footage yesterday evening of firing it and all that jazz, but most of the footage was crap. 😏 I'll nail it eventually though.
My brand new Shield Plus PC 3.1" worked for 5 shots then the trigger started clicking instead releasing the sear and letting the striker fire, just like yours.
I have to push the trigger to the right for it to release the sear when the trigger is pulled (I also have use my left hand to push it just-right so it'll fire, and usually I have to pill it all the way to the back now. There is a ton of play to the right in the trigger).
Otherwise it just goes clickity clickity as the trigger bar clicks past the sear without dropping it to release the striker.
I loved it for the first 5 shots - What I'm worried about now is that they'll ruin the performance center tuned trigger with a crappy older striker spring unit - Taking it from the 5 pounds or less trigger average it had when I tested it before taking ownership from the FFL (yes I'm that anal about my guns) to something like 6+ pounds. I've heard horror stories like yours about them putting in parts from older shields and and M&P series into the shield plus... And I know I'm definitely not gonna get the special "tuned" trigger that the performance center is supposed to come with.
Before buying the firearm I looked at tons of reviews and there was only one review from the past 6 months that I found and it was yours... And low and behold I purchased the exact same gun (without the flashlight) and had the exact same problem. I thought there's no way I'll get the exact same problem as the one UA-cam video that was recent , it had to be a fluke negative, but yup.
I created them a link to a video I made of what the gun is doing and I asked if they please test it thoroughly before sending it back because I don't want to get it back and it work for 10 shots and then stop working... clearly when they tested it before sending it out they didn't fire many shots as if it only took 5 Standard pressure 115 grain rounds to cause the device to stop working.
I sent them a video as a private UA-cam video and on a flash drive. I also told them what the trigger Is pool gauged at before it broke. But I explained to them I will not make the UA-cam video public unless I get the gun back and it's not fixdd or not how it's supposed to be.
Wish me luck!
Dang, I'm sorry to hear that, friend, but thanks for sharing it with us. I JUST got mine back again, and although the trigger issue seems to be resolved, I REALLY regret sending my slide in for repair. They replaced the slide with the correct model this time, but the finish on it was blotchy and uneven, almost like it was covered in soot. I began to rub the finish to clean it up, and apparently the finish was extremely thin, because now it has like a "battle worn" look to it, which I'm not a big fan of.
Five months, man, and they did nothing to make up for this horrible experience. It makes me fearful to even buy another one of their firearms. It definitely makes me leary to ever send them another one in for repair, which is likely to never happen again...
By the way, someone interjected that I should have requested to have the original parts sent back with the firearm. I don't know if you can actually do that or not, but perhaps you want to try it and see if it's successful. Haha
Thanks again for your feedback, mate, and thanks for watching ! 😁
Update?
I hope that is a one off just ordered a performance center plus and waiting for it to come.
Whew, I sure hope so too, mate. You don't want to have to use that warranty, believe me. LOL
Thanks for watching. ☺️
I just got a 4" PC shield plus (no ports, no optic). Went through a box of 50rds had 8 light primer strikes. Thought it was the ammo, went with way higher quality ammo, another 50 rounds, even more light primer strikes (10-12). I'm convinced Performance Center models are WORSE than standard. I have a normal shield plus that's flawless. I seen a few other UA-cam videos of problems with shield PC models 3.1" and 4". There is no way this gun was fired even once from the factory or "PeRfOrMaNcE CeNtEr". Just a couple extra fancy engravings. SW, you can do better and need accountability. If you're going to charge that much more and list as performance center it needs to be FLAWLESS. On week 2 of waiting for it to get back.
Daaaanng, sorry to hear that, friend. Unfortunately it seems the Performance has left the Smith and Wesson Center. Thank you for sharing though so that others can be aware of this problem. Thank you so much for watching as well. 😊
Wow , unbelievable 😱
Believe it, mate ! 😅 What a doozy this one was. I have an update video also. Did they fix it, did they send it back broken ? Be sure to check that out !
Thanks for watching, and please consider subbing if you haven't already. 🫡
@@whatwouldlewdo How does your P365 X shoot? Can you get all twelve plus one in the chamber?
@@propblast82nd Oh, the P365 lineup is great. I almost have every variant that I like them so much. LOL I find that the X feels a bit more solid as far as the grip goes because there isn't an extension that wiggles a bit while you're shooting. The OGP has the 12rd mag with extension, but it isn't one entire piece, so it allows for a bit of flex.
As for the mags accepting the allotted capacity, yes, I can get them in there. It's tight at first, but after a while of having the springs compressed, you can usually get that last round in. If you still have trouble, I take mine apart and run a tiny bit of gun grease along the walls and that usually makes loading a piece of cake.
@@whatwouldlewdo Thanks I’ve been trying to decide on a something to replace my Gen2 19 . Do run an optic on your EDC pistol ? Thanks again
@@propblast82nd Yes, I now carry with an optic. It takes a bit of getting used to, but it really makes quick (and easy) work of popping your target. I have tried quite a few of them now, from the cheap cheap all the way up to the steep steep. LOL Holosun is good and some of the higher end Sig red dots are great. However their RomeoZero is hit or miss, but mainly miss.
When you take or send something in for repair, ALWAYS ask for the return of any parts that are removed or replaced.
I wasn't aware that you could do that. Have you successfully done this with OEM repairs ?
I'm worried about mine. I haven't fired it yet (am going Monday to fire). The 13 round mag is a bit weird, didn't wanna load at first but a loader got it in there no issue. However the magazine doesn't want to load into the firearm easily. If the slide is locked back it goes in with zero resistance. If it's forward you have to overcome the spring pressure of the slide stop and it's a bit fucky. Doesn't wanna go unless you really give er', slap it up there. 10 round doesn't do that. So I'm weirded out by that. I'm hoping it runs okay, I can't send it back to Smith for 6 months or something
I see. I also had problems with the 13 rd magazine not wanting to accept 13 rds. However, I didn't have any issues with it loading. Then again, if you really have to cram those rounds in there, that could cause some sort of binding and now the spring is fighting against chambering that round. There is a trick I found that you can take the follower out and shave the sharp angles down to make it a little easier to load. I filmed this a LONG time ago, but it was on a HD that went capoot. I need to redo that video.
Have you checked to see if you still have that same issue with only 12 or even 11 rounds loaded in the magazine ?
@@whatwouldlewdo just the 13, it's fighting against the slide stop/mag release mechanism. When the magazine is topped off it's a little fucky, it always goes but needs light convincing. It's not a huge deal, just train to really give er, but the 10 round one I have doesn't do kt
@@whatwouldlewdo I think those 13's just aren't great for 13 actual rounds. With 12 in it it's still a bit tight but not as much. Once I go fire it tomorrow imma make sure it'll fire from being topped off and +1 (I saw someone else have that issue) and after that I'm happy enough. I think the spring for the slide stop (which looks like it has something to do with the magazine catch) is just a bit too tight
@@whatwouldlewdo oh, and when the slide is locked back, mag goes in zero resistance. No click or anything either but it goes and locks into place. So there's something to the slide stop/ mag release that too tight or the magazine isn't leaving enough room for the cutout to catch the hole in the mag. Kinda like an AR mag loaded with 30 rounds not going into an AR with the bolt forward.
Sounds like you got a bad one. My wife’s works perfectly! Our multiple Shield Plus’s work perfectly.
I concur. My OR model works fine. However, the way that S&W handled the "repair" was unbelievable. Definitely won't be sending anything to them again. I'll either fix it myself or pay someone else to do it. LOL
I appreciate your honesty, and as far as having trouble with customer service you are not the only one,and it just so happens that is with the same company SMITH AND WESSON
THANK YOU 😊
Much obliged for the compliment. When I decided to do this channel, it was my intention to be helpful to others, and without honesty and integrity, we don't have much else to stand on. Thanks for your conversation, and thanks so much for watching. 😁
Can I install a laser device on it?
I answered this on the other video, but there are a few options available for a laser. I would suggest Streamlight's light and laser combo, but if you ONLY want the laser, I think S&W uses Crimson Trace. I'm not crazy about the way that one functions though. Anyway, I hope that's helpful. Thanks for watching. 😁
I share all of your sentiments. Im torn, though. On one hand, I've fallen in love with S&W, especially the M&P's. But on the other hand, if this were to happen to me, I'd be completely done buying from them. Im gonna hope nothing like this happens to me, or anyone else for that matter. Whats the plan going forward from this video? That unmatched slide is a deal breaker in my OCD mind. Thats just crazy! Unless it were a major upgrade, i couldnt deal with it.
Well, I MYSELF finally got the trigger problem straightened out, but the finish on the replacement slide (the correct slide this time) basically rubbed out, and it now has sort of a battle worn look to it. Now, some folks might think that looks cool, but I don't, especially if I'm not the one who wore it down. LOL
It's just a gigantic hassle with those guys. It has definitely made me not want to buy any more of their products because I know if I have a problem in the future, they're likely to give me the same terrible customer service as before.
Sig, on the other hand, replaced one of my optics for free, no mailing it or any of that. It was quick, painless, and hassle-free. That's really what I expected out of S&W, but I received no such thing. Having said that, Sig is my main jam at the moment. 😋
If you read through the comments on that video, I'm not the only one who has had extremely long wait times and shotty "gunsmithing" results. I would venture to say you got lucky if you have had positive experiences with their customer service. 😆
@@whatwouldlewdo Haven't dealt with their customer service. It's just, the M&P 9mm, 2.0 is my first gun. I bought it almost a year ago. Ive enjoyed everything about it. I know a lot of people like Sig, but I've had my eye on Canik ever since I got my M&P. I like that most of them come in a hard case, extra mags, holster, etc...and Canik has some nice looking guns. I think my next buy will probably be a Canik. Besides M&P, i dont think any other semi auto, striker fire pistol is gonna compare when it comes to grip comfort and stipling. Man, those interchangeable palm swells and that texture is super seductive to me. But, I need to get out there and fire other hand guns.
@@Mr.Peanut1986 Oh, okay. That was my misunderstanding. My error. LOL
Canik, I've looked at, but not crazy about them. They do look cool and all, but after the Mete began to experience major problems all across the board, they bumped themselves way down on the list.
I DO like their kits include a lot of extras though. I wish more companies would do that. However, being that all comes in one package for a generally affordable price, my first though is "low quality," but to be fair, I haven't actually handled any of their items yet.
They may just be using the tactic where you enter into the market as the cheap and affordable option, and then once you're well established and everyone starts buying your products, THEN you go up on the price. That's a classic. Think Amazon or Walmart. They squished so many competitors by being more affordable, but now they can be kinda high on a lot of things. LOL
@@whatwouldlewdo Fair point. Gosh dang it! That METE is the one in particular I was talking about! Lol go figure. I saw a video on it for a "first time gun buyer". It almost seems like it doesn't matter which direction you go...it's kinda hit or miss. Why couldn't we just love revolvers? Lol. A good friend of mine bought a $1500 Colt Python. Beautiful gun, excellent trigger, but not something I'd want to carry around all day. Maybe I'll just stick with my trusty M&P. But, I have been really eyeing the FPC (Folding Pistol Carbine) by S&W. I'm told it's gimmicky, but I really, really like it. I don't have much experience with rifles, but I think that may be a nice foray into owning an AR sometime in the future. If you haven't seen the FPC, i suggest checking it out, at least. Neat little pistol!
@@Mr.Peanut1986 Well, I can only speak for the brands that I've had experience with, and while the Shield Plus is a good choice (with the exception of my PC model) the main manufacturer I have experience with now is Sig. I have almost all the P365 lineup. Love those things.
I actually own the M&P Sport ll from S&W. I really like that one. It probably goes without saying, but I upgraded a ton of things on it (affordably) and there are a few more things I'm considering upgrading/changing. All in good time. LOL
Rifles are actually easier to shoot than pistols. The only downside to those is that in today's society they aren't exactly the kind of weapon you can carry around without having some patron freak out and call the police. Then you're likely to end up shot down by those scaredy cats with their itchy trigger fingers. Pistols may take a lot of practice, but you can carry those all over and most people not even know you have it on you.
But does it work now? Also, that slide swap is unacceptable.
The trigger bar is still a little wonky. I tinkered with it and made the pull way too light for my liking, so I put it as close to original as I could. However it still isn't like it once was, so I may end up replacing the trigger bar and call it a day. Otherwise functionally speaking, everything is good to go. The finish, on the other hand, has disappeared. I did an update video on it. The thumbnail says "Shield Plus Performance Center Just Won't Perform." That has all the latest updates.
@@whatwouldlewdo yes I saw that one, I didn't realize it was the same channel, same gun.
@@bdub0983 Oh, yeah. That's the one I've had ALL the issues with. Not a problem out of the other one except for the rear sight was a bit off, but that was such a simple fix.

Dam thats a sad situation
I got it back, and am going to do an official review video on it real soon. I just finished the backstop for our range, so now I can show these pewstolas in action ! 😁
They are the same slide with a different roll mark. The lower is the only difference between a Shield and Shield Plus. That being said, it looks like they gave you a blem slide.
Technically it's the same slide, but significantly of less value.
I would do some research before I send that back I'm pretty sure you got an upgrade the 2.0 are a lot better
The slide is the only thing that was upgraded. The lower and all it's components are still Shield Plus, which (from MY understanding) IS better than the 2.0.
It looks like quality control personnel are sleeping. I just purchased a pistol from them and send it back because it has a nasty scratch in the slide.

@@whatwouldlewdo S&W CS does suck, when compared to Ruger is non existent. What I’ve done before was to keep the gun as long as I patiently could and then sell it at a loss. Let’s face it, chances are you won’t trust the gun to carry as you should. You can buy the same one (not a lemon) or another brand. Regardless of situation, S&W’s dealings with your particular situation has been UNSAT! No way a company should treat customers like that. I was thinking of a PC Shield Plus (reason why I watched your video) but now I am thinking of staying with the P365 X. Their loss, cuz you win by adding and never by subtracting.
@@flyontop Well, I do carry the Shield Plus every day, but the PC version hasn't left the ground. LOL I have also branched out into the Sig line, and I really enjoy their products thus far. Yes, initially, but eventually they should accept the specified capacity. I actually had to modify my magazines to get them to accept 13rds, which is unacceptable.
a lemon will show up once in a while, and all you need is some water and sugar. Lmoa
To be fair, this is the only variant I have had major problems with, and the only variant I've heard others report problems with. My optics ready version is a champ.
Wow what are they doing this is not ok
I'm glad I'm not the only one who sees a problem with this. I was wondering if most folks would think I was overreacting, but it completely changes the gun when you sub a different slide. Three months and that's the best they can do ? Ohh, my. 😏
Putting on the wrong slide is incompetent. I was going to look at a shield plus but no thanks now. 3 months for a fix on their mistakes is not ok. They should give you a new gun and a couple of magazines if they actually do care about pleasing a customer.
My sentiments exactly ! Thanks for your feedback, and thanks for watching ! 😊
Worst customer service. Experienced it as well regarding their rebate.
I just got the PC back, and it looks like they refinished a slide using a different finish than what is usually on them. Almost like a black cerakote or something. Not sure. It also has some problems, but I will make a follow up video on it.

These high lumen lights are going to get you killed. I’m retired military just for reference. TIFWIW 31B out
@@DanielJohnson-ot8wj I actually prefer a lower lumen light, and 500 is about the highest I will go. That's what my TLR-7a burns. However, my little TLR-6 lights (100 lumens) are VERY good at allowing you to see at distance, so the 1000 lumen lights are really quite unnecessary, in my opinion. Not to mention they're far more expensive.
@@whatwouldlewdo I like the Arkfeld for its moon light phase. Perfect for most situations and why are you shooting at something that needs to be illuminated to daylight levels. PID is a thing, but 99% of civilians will never be in a situation like that of cops. I’d say if you require that much illumination to shoot someone; you just shot yourself a lengthy prison sentence. Most likely you’re hunting instead of running away from the situation.
@@DanielJohnson-ot8wj Not familiar with "Arkfeld." What do they do ?
Here is my shield after sending it in for repair ua-cam.com/users/shortsz0IshArNnEQ?si=RzeEEBPrqh9e2uvz. Faxon had a sale on match barrels so I got a threaded one to add a can later
What reasons did you have to send yours in for ?
I will not buy this gun now and you can send this and my first comment to S+W John Elder,ESQ
I had two of these guns, both had issues. I'd never buy another. Total junk IMO.
You're the first one to say this ! I was thinking I was the only one. Haha. Thanks so much for watching. 😊
@@whatwouldlewdo Both shot great until they broke or the mags stopped functioning the way they were suppose to. I’m sure I’ll get some hate responses. Lol
@@fivesfilms My Optics Ready version hasn't given me any problems, but the PC model just won't perform. LOL Speaking of which, I did a follow up to this video (if you haven't seen it already).
