That was great, Troy. Leon had some of the greatest bass lines ever. The man was very creative. It's hard not to appreciate him and the music that he made.
Well now, just another kick I needed to spark my dabblings for an hour. I came in from the backyard to this in my notifications. I don’t know what to pick up first, but I’m now leaning on playing bass on this before the other instruments. My friend Doc Nelson showed me that song on the guitar maybe 1989 ish…I’ve been playing it ever since. I’m pumped, thanks 😎👍🏼
2001 wow. Caught me by surprised and I actually questioned it. I guess time passes quickly and now I’m 62. This album Street Survivors is an incredible recording. I actually have the original released album where the band is standing amongst flames all around them. Which after the plane accident here in Mississippi got pulled. Thanks for the upload
Yeah….. they changed the album cover to all black background after removing the flames. I not positive but I believe one of the wives was super upset and asked the record company to remove the flames. I’ve been to the site where the plane went down. It’s actually on private property. There’s also a public memorial that has been put in place, but it’s not exactly where the plane went down. Close though.
One more great job 👍 *Is this beast like... a Yamaha bass? The busy bass line that is different during the guitar solo makes it more exciting!!!! Thanks for sharing all these songs that we still play live.
Thank you. It was made for me by Joe Kruse of MBJ Guitars. The link should be in the description beneath the video. I'm glad you're enjoying the channel. Thanks and take care!
Oh boy that is a pretty active one! Great tone and cover Troy! Most of those southern rock bands seemed to be flush with really talented & creative musicians.
I used to play a lot of shuffles like this when only myself and a rhythm guitar playing singer would do private gigs. Those were busy gigs for me try to fill for lack of other musicians. We had a full band at the time but some venues called for two pieces. Doing this sort of thing means I had to be careful not to step on the singer. I often played fretless just in case the singer was a little flat or sharp, which was often!
Thanks so much. I think the other video was pretty old, before I started recording directly, so the sound quality wasn't terrific. It was just a microphone placed in front of my computer speakers and a small practice amp that sat on my desktop. The way I record now is slightly more sophisticated, but not much more.
Such a tasty bass line, I've never really paid attention that much until this video. Then again, I was always fascinated with Billy's piano work in this song (one of my favorite piano solos) to pay attention to the bass. As always, you nailed it! I now have an appreciation for the bass line :)
Great cover, great song, awesome bassist to cover. Leon was tops in my book. Btw, when will you do a video of your bass collection? It seems every video you're playing something new...
Thank you very much Bill. I actually did a series of videos on my collection. Look for the "Bass Collection" playlist and let me know if you have trouble finding it. One video would have been far, far too long, so I did them in batches, by make and/or style.
Troy, great video. This is one of my favorite LS songs and I always played my bass along to the CD. I see your patterns and lines differ greatly from mine as I just stuck to the A Major Pentatonic Scale when playing through the 1-4-5 pattern. It sounded like it fits it but maybe it's wrong. The pattern I play has more of a 50s swing than a Blues sound. Now you put this video up I am returning back to it and match my playing to your patterns. Food for thought. Thanks.
Rock 'n' roll was already born - 'Rock the Joint' (1952); 'Rock Around the Clock' (1954); 'That's All Right' (1954) - but when some time later there was a song by one very famous band Led Zeppelin, which they called simply and very oringinally - 'Rock and rol'l, that turned out to be surprisingly cute and original. ))
Hello! I want to buy a bass but im left handed and dont know wether to get a right or left handed bass, what do you think? Also you make the best bass covers
Hi! I would hold out for a left. Handed instrument if I were you. They are a little harder to come by but can still be found without too much trouble. Back when I started playing, they were a real rarity. Thanks a lot and good luck!
Good job…. But I believe the bass player is playing the main riff with an open A and playing a 16th on the octave A of the riff. Economy of motion. Just saying.
Thanks. I don't get too hung up on what position I play a song in. It depends on where I find it most comfortable and it also depends on which bass I'm using. Some basses sound and feel better in certain regions of the neck. That being said, I looked up a live video of Leon playing it. Have a look - ua-cam.com/video/qKKt6h7nK08/v-deo.html
Yes ! I love this, love Skynyrd ❤️
Thanks Cindy!
Jon of my favorite bass lines. Leon never got a lot of credit for his playing. Excellent !!!!
Truth!
Thank you very much!
That was great, Troy. Leon had some of the greatest bass lines ever. The man was very creative. It's hard not to appreciate him and the music that he made.
Thank you, and I totally agree!
Cool. My favorite finger tapping bass tune while I’m driving. Thanks!
I’m glad you liked it! Thanks!
Bravo! That was most excellent!
Leon was awesome!
Thank you very much! Yes, he was.
I just learned this one on bass a few weeks ago. Now I need to find a guitarist who can pull it off.
Very cool! Yeah, what a killer guitar part!
That's a busy song, expertly covered as always, Troy.
It is a bit busy, isn’t it? Thanks a lot!
That’s some great rockabilly southern fried style right there!🎼🎸👍
Truth!

Yeah, time flies. He was only 49.
I didn’t know that they changed the graphics on the album cover. That’s wild.
Yeah….. they changed the album cover to all black background after removing the flames.

Rest in peace to the Mad Hatter himself! Biggest reason Lynyrd Skynyrd's first few albums are on my playlist. Expertly played!
Hear, hear! Thank you.
You Rocked the Hell out of that song ! My favorite band. 1st Generation Skynyrd

Very cool. It’s nice to hear the fretless is good for something… Ha ha!
@@TJH3113 You know a fretless can be played in such a way as it's hard to tell it's a fretless. I'm not a MWAH Sound fan.
Awesome tone!
Thanks a lot Mark!
Nailed it! Sounds so great
Thanks so much!
Thanks, that looks a lot of fun - I'm looking forward to learning and playing along!
Best bass channel on UA-cam 👌
It was! Thanks so much.

Very nice cover for this busy an fast bassline. Well done ;-)
Thanks a lot Jonathan!
Awesome!!!!!!!!!! I roced the entire time. :-)
Rock on Marvine !
Sweet, right in the pocket! Just watched your cover with your Fender, it kicks butt, but, I'm loving this heavier bass tone, all the better!
Thanks so much. I think the other video was pretty old, before I started recording directly, so the sound quality wasn't terrific. @@TJH3113 Aha! I should've known, I didn't even think about all that lol... Good job, thx for the music, all us fans really appreciate! 🙃🎸
Excellent stuff as always Troy.
Thanks again!
Excellent, great song choice.

Fantastic cover as always!

I learned this many years ago, but nobody in the band wanted to play it. 😖
Blasphemy!
The Danelectro long horn is my favourite bass that you own T.👍.....
Hope that doesn’t make me a bad person?😕🎸
Not at all, it’s an incredible instrument.
great sounding bass... Warwick?
Thanks. It's an MBJ Double-Bit by Joe Kruse of MBJ Guitars. His link should be in the text beneath the video.

Never heard it. I’ll check it out. Thanks for the suggestion.
