Growing up in Beaver Falls Pa. in the 70s. Pot head wine head. All I did was listen to this band. And this song just intrigued the hell out of me. I heard the Delta in there. I heard Memphis,. New Orleans. Chicago. But most Definatly. Some Juke Joint in Mississippi.
Scott, thanks for this video here, A Great Job, I believe that Ronnie was singing the Ole Skynyrd song, ""Need All My Friends'', A Few days ago, Well All His Friends are there now, I Believe that Ronnie Wrote a New song the other day, Called, " Heaven Has All My Friends'', R.I.P. To Gary, He Was Prince Charming, Cousin Figel
This was the one song that Ed King said that he never wanted to try to play again. It's the only Skynyrd song that gave him fits every time he played it. He said "Steve Gains was an amazing guitar player." You played the hell out of this tune. awesome performance. was this a tough song for you to learn? It feels very intimidating to me. hahaha..
I haven't seen artimus in a long time, the last time there was a house band in Floyd VA, and they let him play, and we did some songs together, and jams. I told him about playing on stage with leon Russell before, and his friends from ARS in Atlanta. So he knew i could hang with him, was a cool guy, i think he said he was visiting family from Floyd, i had no idea he was from my area
Ive got 20 acres a little north of Floyd (south of Roanoke). Great, funky little town - always good music playing somewhere there! Always seems to smell like hemp, though. :-)
Yes! Thank you! I was just scanning all your vids again the other day looking to see if you covered this. Steve was just an absolute monster, even long before Skynyrd where he was doing this type of playing and songs that appeared on Street Survivors. . One can only fathom how great he and the original band would have become in the following decades. Thanks again for this.
Just discovered your channel recently and have been digging through your past videos. Enjoying learning the RIGHT way after all these years. Thanks so much for keeping the spirit of Ronnie, Ed and the rest out in front of modern audiences.
Scott, your a Great instructor. Have you considered joining Artistworks? We could sure use a “Southern Rock Course” similar to what Guthrie Trapp has done with the “Electric Country Guitar” course. Thanks for keeping the music from the best band ever alive!
I've heard that... Ronnie considered the bands style as, "Blues Boogie Music" instead of "Southern Rock"... They're from the, South(Florida). "Southern Blues Boogie!" Is fine enough for me!!! I've been told a story about them in, Radford,Va. (My home State.) They were at the "Silver Spur" (Biker bar)on the outskirts of Radford going to Christiansburg. It made me love them even more than ever... Let's say this... It doesn't matter what race/color you are!!! If you are a "Skynyrd!" Fan, Your welcome to hang with them!!! I know the motel, (Tyler's Inn). 6 rooms, 5 of them could take a shower!!! Cause it was full of beer and liquor!!! This music, Has given me so much joy! Just don't like people using it just for one race, Everyone loves it!!! 🇺🇸🎵🎶🎸🎶🎵🇺🇸
Scott you're always amazing and I love that you want to pass on these tunes for us! I appreciate what you do! I get most of the lead stuff down you show us but this one will take some work for me! But I think I can get it. This tune has baffled me all these years and since I'm a very visual learner you just may get me there. Glad to see you back Scott! Stay well.. ✌️
You’re a fantastic guitar player and a fantastic singer. I commented on your Mexico cover from over a decade ago. I never heard a cover of that song done so well. Big fan of yours.
Hi Scott - Pleasure meeting you at the APB show at the Tin Pan n Richmond (5/17/32), you guys sounded fantastic! Again, thank you for posting these video's. I hope you guys have a successful 2023 summer tour!
It is my workhorse! DV-05E Sounds SO good acoustically and plugged in live. Superior electrics. I have never plugged the whole and I’ve never gotten feedback.
Great stuff, Mr. Raines. I used to think those first few notes in the intro were all picked - that this was a kind of country-southern rock Yngwie workout - as opposed to the slide. I also thought the lead player was hitting the two supporting chords between each run, which can get a guy all tangled up and out of position, heh. You sound so perfect, both in style and tone. Even legends such as Ed King and Hughie Thomasson didn't play Steve's lines on the "I Know a Little" intro as exactly and clearly as you did, although that may have been those guys putting their own personal touches on it rather than a technique thing. I'm not sure what your age is, Scott, but I'm 54 and your tutorials are more than just tutorials. They help immortalize the music of Lynyrd Skynyrd and other bands you've covered here, like Blackfoot, by keeping guitarists of all ages playing their songs. It keeps the music they wrote a living, breathing thing, as opposed to just a museum piece. These videos are important work, as few people left alive on this planet have the insight into playing these songs the way you do. Thank you for continuing.
@@seraines Hey, you're doing The Big Man's work here. You're personally responsible for me learning and recording this cover of Diary of a Working Man: ua-cam.com/video/N0-_LWv7XLw/v-deo.html And the more of us out here who can keep this music alive - inspired and influenced by people like you - the more we can immortalize it by spreading it to future generations. I'm not trying to push my channel or videos on anyone. I just want you to know how directly you've affected some of our lives. ✌🏻
Amazing job, Scott. This song just seem so complex. There is A LOT going on in that one it seems. Not sure if you saw my email a while back, but I'd love to learn your Street Survivor song. Hoping you do a tutorial on it sometime. Better yet, move to Illinois and teach me to play guitar. Seriously, thanks for all your tutorials.
Great! Thanks so much. I got this pretty much under my fingers in 20 minutes or so. (I think I must have played it back in the 70s, but dont remember). I put down the rhythm part into a track and started jamming. It was a great Monday morning and start the week jam! Thanks so much for doing this for us!
DUDE! Thank you SOO much! If I could have a 20 year old hottie feeding me ice cream I could die happy now! (kiddin...got a hot wife) hehe....thanks Scotty....it just don't get no better. I have always gauged my playing by THIS tune....if you can play this you're there if you ask me. I WILL get it now....
You don’t sound like him with either axe dude.. He’s played that song on a Strat before in his other band. It wouldn’t have mattered because he’d sound bad ass with either guitar.. also that strat of Steve’s like all Lynyrd Skynyrds equipment was an object of theft, thats why Workin for the MCA was written, and that’s when Steve grabbed the black Les Paul… 😂
Great pickin Scott love your playing . You fellas are such an awesome group......hope you come to the Sellersville Theatre here in Pa sometime want to meet you guys
Immaculate ! Anybody who can competently play Steve Gaines, is a Golden Guitar God to me !!!

It gave me fits too in my Southern Rock band from 30 years ago and still gives me fits 30 years later! I understand where Ed was coming from…
Great to have you back
Steve Gaines isn’t talked about enough, would’ve been one of the best of all time. Thanks for these lessons
I agree!!!
Hands down...
Bluesy-Badassness!!!
🎶🎸🎶
He was an incredible guitarist !

Drove 4+ hrs to Floyd to see my friends band play at a local pub. Love Floyd....

Very nice
Great job! Thx
I don't suppose you would consider doing a tutorial for Gimme Back My Bullets? I can't find even a decent one anywhere.
very awesome. i used to have that strat model. same finish and everything. wish i had never sold it.
Yeah I’m glad I never sold this one. Bought it new in Atlanta in 1980. I have a very big Les Paul regret. 😣
Scott, Any chance you could do a video on That Smell? You videos are the absolute best.
Thanks
Paul, it’s in the pipeline. Thank you!
I watched your Every Mothers Son video, then your cover of Hello It's Me, came here and watched this, and subscribed.
Thank you! 🙏🏼
Oh yeah buddy, I know what I'm doing this morning. Thank you

Good to see you back brother!!! Love this one... IMO, and many others, you should do the whole catalogue!! :) Killer strat BTW!
Really cool! Have you ever done a lesson on Call Me the Breeze? Thank you again.
You found it! Thanks for watching my stuff! 🙏🏼
All I can say is your a amazing Guitarist!
Wow. That was amazing. That intro is crazy.
Scott, what model Larrivée do you use? It sounds amazing on your other videos. Thanks!
It is my workhorse! DV-05E Sounds SO good acoustically and plugged in live. Superior electrics. I have never plugged the whole and I’ve never gotten feedback.

Man, that’s awesome!! Great job!! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Scott can you give me the solo on only in America by Brooks and Dunn please
Listening to Only In America, is it the 4 bar solo before the steel guitar solo? Hopefully that’s the correct song?
HE IS gOOD
