- Follow along as we tell you how we modified our ARB Awning Room so that it attaches and seals to our Bushwacker 10 HD. You could use the tips we share to attach this awning room to almost any camper that is using an ARB style awning with the ARB Awning Room.
Having the room seal to the camper is nothing short of Awesome! No more unzipping the big flap and letting all the bugs in while in out case letting all the heat out. We essentially over doubled the size of living space in out camper with this mod.
If you need help, have questions, or are interested in getting a gutter board for below your door or have us do this mod for you please just email us @

Hello and amazing job on the tent modification upgrade.
Thank you sir. We have a lot .ore mods to the awnings and annex room that we have not had time get videos out on them yet. Things have been crazy around here since we started The Wizard of Modz camper.repair and modifications!
Wel done sir! I always enjoy when a DIY project comes together and looks like its "meant to be there" or "better than factory design".
Thank you very much sir. We try hard to make our mods look like the should there. We appreciate you noticing. More ARB mods in the works so please stayed tuned.
I am sending you a like and a comment. That is a clever modification. I hope to do something like that but adopted for our small popup camper. Thank you.
Thank you sir. Hope it works well for you.
Sewing trick since both fabrics are slippery is to use pins to pin the seams/fabric together at intervals and remove when your sewing foot gets close to it. You can also staple them and use a staple remover. You may have some holes left behind but they're small.
Thank you sir, I use both of those tricks but try to keep them to a minimum.
It's a great addition to the teardrop. Makes it much more comfortable to have that extra space.
I found you through Brian's channel, "DIY Outdoor Life"; and loved your trailer mods and detailing there. You two are a charming team who loves to balance simple living with the comforts of home; I'm in constant revision to find the right balance too. ~ Steven, Utah
The windows are going to be awesome too!
Thank you. You work has encouraged me.
Very well done. Girlfriend and I are going to do something similar to ours. Thank you for the great explanation.
This is awesome!! We have been trying to figure out how to attach our room to my self built camper, this gives me great ideas how to do it!!
Good deal, I hope it helps.
Im a minivan camper, I recently added the awning room so I could take family members camping and hea it with the diesel heater in my van. We took the room for it's maiden camp to see Salem Mass. for halloween weekend. It worked out great.
Thank you so much for this video. This is an awesome solution for entering and exiting the camper.
You're very welcome. Won't you have it you won't want to camp without it!
I am doing this mod on a Bushwacker 12sk today.
This is an awesome video, brilliant design, thank you 😀
Thank you for watching. The demand was so great that we started a business doing the mod, The Wizard of Modz.
GENIUS. I will definitely be using this idea. Thank you for sharing.
Glad it helped you out. It's an awesome mod! We do about one per week for owners.
Great video! I’ve done half of the modification watching your video. We love having the ARB screened room and being able to use the door! Next I’m going to do the wheel well next! Wish me luck!! Thanks again for providing this video!
That's awesome! Just take your time and think your way through the fender cover. Quick tip, make it as loose as you can vertically so you have extra for uneven ground.
Also, don't sew it on backwards like I did the first time! So frustrating!
Great idea! 😊 I was trying to figure how to do that. My door is a little more tricky but this gives me a starting point. Thanks
Glad it was helpful. It makes such a huge difference I can't imagine ever going back to the way it was!
Great video tanks for all the knowledge
Joking about the sewing job. That is nice! Thank you for sharing. Im going to attempt that. I think I might try the with a bed sheet first.
It's not bad once you get started. Just work your way through it. The door part is pretty easy. Don't sew your fender cover on backwards like I did the first time!
You are totally empowering me to try this!! Not sure I can do as good as yours but I’m going to give it a shot. I love the 2 ARB side rooms we have and this will make it so much more comfortable. Thanks for sharing!
Your so welcome and if you you run into any issues or have questions feel free to reach out, we will help out however we can. The spacer board below the door is key to it working. Please share pics when your done, we would love to see it! You can do this, good luck!
Just to give you a heads up we will have several videos coming out in the future dealing with modifications to strengthen the ARB room set up. I could definitely see where there were a couple of weaknesses at to the setup. That said we had it out in 40 mile per hour winds and intense rainstorms. But even the room by itself puts a load on parts of the structure. You might want to keep your eyes out for the videos when they come out.
@@adventuresofthememorymakers I do look forward to hearing what you have to say. Summer of 2021 we were camping and had torrential rains and wind. Both of our ARB awning/tents were destroyed. The weight of the rain on the awning and the winds caused the poles to snap. Then in turn ripped (or should I say “shredded”) our tent walls! Bought new awnings and tents in 2022 and another downpour snapped one of the ARB awnings. Ugh! Fortunately we had the poles from the prior units and made a fix. I’m learning that we need to adjust how we set it up.
Epic modification!
I'd buy a complete system/wall from you. Totally awesome. Great work sir.
Thank you very much. It's a game changer for sure. Like I said, can't imagine using it without it.
Phenomenal mod!!! I watched it yesterday and went straight to Lowes. I used a 6'-12' pole ($16.00ea) Then I deviated again using the 3/4 T PVC but added a 3/4 to 1/2 reducer so it fit on the pole tighter. Followed your instructions and it works like a CHAMP! Thanks for that mod and your advice on modifying the Door opening. I have a New Wave Square Drop and I love it. THANK YOU for all the great Beta!!
Good deal! Glad you were able to get some ideas from our mod. We continue to modify and improve the ARB room. We are currently testing a rainwater retention elimination device. It's working great and getting a real test with all the rain in the North east. We should have a video out on it soon!
Keep it coming! Really great ideas and really well done instructional plans! Thanks!! @@adventuresofthememorymakers
@GUINNESSNOC thank you sir! I will try my best.
I like teardrops, but agree that having a standing height connected area to change clothes, have room for a small table and chair for eating, and put a “bathroom” off to the side is a “necessity.” And a good cube tent doesn’t take up that much space or weight ( just a bit of time to set up and take down).
These little campers hold body heat very well.
Nice! I did the same with my awning room a few years ago but I just velcro sewed around the cutout and stuck around the door. It sealed it up pretty well but putting it up and taking it down was tricky some days when the velcro kept catching. The only tools I used were scissors and a sewing awl.
Sure makes a big difference!
Truly inspirational video. I've been trying to figure out how to use one of the ARB awning rooms to turn the patio/ramp of my toy hauler into a screened in room and tent for when we take the grandbabies camping with us.
This modification probably won't work for all applications but if you can make it work for your camper or trailer it is an absolute game-changer! It's like we tripled the size of our camper overnight!
Glad I found your channel as I’ve recently bought a Hiker 5x9 mid-range. The door on the hiker’s basically go to the floor of the trailer. Any thoughts on how to make the shock cord work around the bottom of the door without the option of your modification? Thanks for all of your camping videos!
Thank you for watching. I will actually be doing the mod on a hiker soon so once I do I will share what I do. We are currently doing the mod for owners who can't.
Thanks looking at got Hiker trailer
I can see how this mod can be modded to work with other types of awning rooms for other campers. As you mentioned, this one won't work on a Plus due to door height relative to awning height. One thing that's not super to me is how you attached the spacer support board to the door frame. Nice video!
I attached the poly board to the camper with countersunk screws that are behind the rubber gutter channel so there are no visible fasteners anywhere on the poly board. Must have worked, you cant see them LOL!
Baaahahahaha! Dude, you cracked me up when you ask what you called a guy that sews.
You was super quick with the, don't answer that 😆😆😆
Sometimes I ask things I shouldn't LOL!
Great video and really good job on the mods. I am convinced this is what I need for my campervan. A question if you please: What is the distance from the channel on the awning room to the seam in the seam in the floor. Placement of the awning on my bubble top campervan will be critical. If too high on the fiberglass "bubble", then the floor does not reach the ground. Too low and I have folded material at the ground. I could wait until I receive both the the awning and the awning room, but if you can provide that measurement, I can do some preplanning on fitment. Thank you in advance. Enjoy and safe travels.
Glad you liked the video and I think you will love the mod once you get it done.
I am not sure about the distance to the seam but from the track I installed along the bottom of the door to the ground is 23" and 68½ to the track above the door. Our ARB awning is 77" from the bottom of it mounting track to the ground.
We will be having more ARB room modification videos coming out soon so please be sure to Subscribe and click the bell icon to get notified when they come out.
I'm thinking about doing this to my room and do you think a 1x4 or a 1x6 would work for the bottom piece?
Is there any studs to screw into or just the door frame studs?
I would refrain from using real wood as it will retain moisture, swell, and just make a mess of things. The poly board is the the ticket.
If your doing this on a Bushwacker 10 series like ours there are aluminum "studs" running down the sides of the door opening and then a wall base plate running along the bottom. Can't say for sure about other campers.
Hey Sam, I’m inspired to to attempt this project. I have a FreeSolo OG with an ARB awning and the ARB room extension. One Question, what is the poly board at the base of the door? Is it something I can purchase at a home improvement store? I have the table saw and router. I just need to find the poly board locally. Thanks again for your encouragement. David in Texas
David, I checked and for some reason the link to the PVC board was missing from the description so I added it back. Check the description for a link for the PVC board, it should be there now. Please share some pics when you get it done.
I tired to get one of those ARB rooms and it just didn't ship.... After two weeks of it just sitting there I canceled the order. Maybe I'll try it again in a while.
We ordered Ours from Amazon and got it in a few days. Hopefully you will have better luck this time
Another quick question assuming yours is the 2500 x 2500 awning room. Could you please give me the dimensions on the vehicle side panel that has the door in it. Obviouly it is 2500 mm wide, but where does the opening start and end.
I honestly can't answer that unless I set up the awning and room and took measurements. It really is not critical so long as you have you room between the door edge and the zipper in the awning room wall that goes against your camper so you can sew the nylon pocket with the bungee cord inside it to your awning room wall. That distance is probably going to be different from camper to camper.
Please share some pics when you get yours done. Love to see it.
Great work! What type of thread and needle did you use in your sewing machine? Was there a certain stitches per inch. Thanks for showing us this is possible.
James, I used a Coats and Clark upholstery thread in my mom's old Kenmore. Have no clue on the needle or thread spacing as I am not that precise in my sewing. It's functional sewing, not technically correct sewing if you know what I mean LOL
@@adventuresofthememorymakers Understood. Appreciate the info!
@@jameskoontz5220 , Your very welcome. Please share pics when you get yours done. We would love to see it!
Could I hang the tent off my Chevy Impala?
I am sure it could probably be made to work, just don't know how much head room you would have in it.
What an absolute amazing job. If I drive to Indiana with my bushwacker? Lol We bought our trailer did a few days of modifications and drove it to Yucatan MX from NH. That would have been a game changer with our awning and the bugs!
UA-cam "Destination known" 🌴🍻
Bill, for sure, if you ever pass through our area get with us and we can work something out with you. After using our room with this mod we just can't imagine using it without it!
I wanted to say, great video, content and thanks for sharing.
I do have a question in regards to the ARB Awning Room.
Does it have to be physically attached to your trailer's roof rack or are there poles holding it up on the trailer side?
Thanks again.
Thank you for the kind comment. The ARB and other mounted awnings like it are not free standing. They must be mounted to your camper or vehicle. On our teardrop the roof rack works great for that. On my enclosed trailer it can be mounted directly to the side of it. But they are not free standing awnings.
@@adventuresofthememorymakers Thank you!
Rediculously complex.
But it sure is nice when its done!
