12:56 Likely the hidden entrance to the Temple of the Eye, where Evil Eyes supposedly originated and worship their deity, Xktkez, a giant lidless eye that went underground to slumber and evil eyes spawn from his tear(s) in a pool from the temple (google "Vhalen", "Xktkez" for the lore). It's mentioned in EQ2 more than EQ1, but if you notice that both Runnyeye Goblins and Evil Eyes have opposing factions you can be non-KOS to, so it may have been something they were considering but never followed through. I was one of the nutjobs crazy enough to raise my faction above amiable to both and none of the Evil Eye named speak upon hails. Speaking of the goblins, you can hail and speak to Lord Pickclaw but he offers nothing but long paragraphs. Due to the dialogue bug, you have to clear your target list before speaking keywords (target him, hail, press escape, then say "Xorbb" with nothing on target). (Edit: can't bold the google phrases COME ON UA-cam! also continued in next comment)
(continued from last reply) The really early days of EQ had a regular goblin king in the Runnyeye Citadel before the Pickclaw Clan took them over, which is why you have two goblin factions in the zone. The whole reason for that is the lore changes to saying the Pickclaws rised up and fought back against the evil eyes (while in EQ2 the shattering made them begrudging allies). My theory: the original idea was killing evil eyes to get faction with goblins who'd give a secret/key to access Temple of the Eye, but plans changed. To save the effort of making a new zone with a probable raid target, they just changed lore to make goblins the stronger side and that's why Pickclaws drop that really valuable and useful blackened alloy stuff. Players have always asked why such good loot drops from pretty easy mobs, and that may explain why.
I was told that story, too. It makes some sense because those markers are in places where only evil races and factions can safely teleport to without getting mauled instantly. Either that, or that's the point where the gods made their mark on Norrath and it's not only a worship site but "summoning" (teleportation).
Recently discovered your Project 1999 videos, showed them to a few close friends, and we all agree: they're fucking excellent. For me personally, it's one of the absolute best things I've ever randomly stumbled across in two decades of internetting. The nostalgia factor is level 99 and the content is genuinely interesting, but your unique voice-overs, tremendous editing skills, and razor-sharp sense of comedic timing are what make it truly excellent. The... je ne c'est quoi... "sporadic, random forays into profoundly dark and weird tangents apropos of nothing, that you rapidly cut away from as if only realizing the fucked up nature of what you're saying in the moment itself", is a truly rare and special gift to your viewers. Please keep putting them out!
Your EQ mysteries videos are great! I just discovered them tonight and watched them all. I haven't played EQ in over 10 years but your videos really bring me back and remind me how much fun it was discovering things in the game. Thanks for the great content!
I have to tell you man, every time I see one of these videos in my feed I get excited. You continue to help me appreciate the grandeur that was my EQ days.
I love this stuff man, you’re awesome. The rambling at the end fading out made me think of myself when I go to tell a Story to GF and within 15 seconds, I’ve branched off from the main story, and then branched from that branch, and again and again, before I even realize I’m telling 17 stories, I see that glazed look in her eyes, but rarely do I manage to shut down the rampant tangents before she knits her brows and says something like, “Dude… focus, I don’t know what the hell you’re talking about.”
Please keep making videos! I feel like this is the perfect channel for me, from the thumbnail (galaktikon ftw), the music, the sense of humor and most of all classic everquest.
This game, back in 2000, was so enchanting to me when I started playing it, and your videos are nostalgic and make me smile the entire time... To uncover some secrets, I highly suggest diving into the lore (not the game play) of some later expansions. I'm going to try to setup some patreon funds for you.
you make great videos. I'm currently playing on the Agnarr server on LIVE. The community, for the most part, are very much like-minded, enjoy the lore, and immerse ourselves deeper than ever before. Anyway, thanks for another great video; I wish it were 10 times longer.
I played EQ from beta > 2007ish and your videos encapsulate the awe of wonder I experienced back in 'the old days' an I absolutely love whenever a new one comes out. Thanks for bringing some joy to an old EQ vet!
Thanks for addressing the strange circles that would later be revealed to be the "Chelsith Stones". Always wondered why they were found in almost every necromancer place in the world. xD
I saw your videos and they were so great that I got inspired to start playing again for the first time since the early 2000s. So, yea, screw you, but also these are really awesome and you should never stop making them.
I really enjoy all of your EQ videos, and since you're so passionate about the game I was going to suggest a couple videos you could do. I was looking up some kinda video that would cover the history of Everquest (either in-game lore or the real life story behind the game) and found nothing, which shocked me because EQ is pretty important in the gaming landscape. I would love to see you do this because you're incredibly talented and funny, and you know a lot as well. Either way I look forward to more content from you, keep up the great work
I've spent a cringe-worthy amount of time indulging in the history of Kunark and would love to talk to you about it! Next time I see you at the EC tunnel I might work up the balls to say "Hi I love your work!" I love these videos so much. Thank you for making them!
PS - That "red Cabilis symbol" is the symbol of the Sathirian Empire. Each section represents one of the old tribes; Jarsath, Kylong, Obulus, Nathsar, and and Kunzar. The symbol is still used because some Iksar don't consider the empire "ruined" - only Sebilis was technically destroyed. Which is some Iksar NPC's will still refer to Sebilis as "the capitol" and Venril as "The Emperor".
I started out trying to re create what I saw others doing on youtube and in movies and such, watched a lot of youtube tutorials, still do when I can't figure something out. Made my first video in 2013 and been trying to edit stuff ever since
These videos are great man. I've watched all of your videos because of how much I loved your Everquest ones. Accept this niche following and run with it!
Klikniks vs klaknaks! Love it. That never did make any sense. And what's with the noise they make? It's like a cash register's ding combined with a broken typewriter. Later when you level up you can fight the grown up version of beetles in North karana! Are there beetles in dragon necropolis or am I imagining things? The lore behind the beetles is nearly limitless!
welp i want more of these and longer ones great vid man very well done!! i think fire beetles were the builders of the halfling and gnome city's they just kicked em out but the gnomes felt bad and instead of making things right by them, they just used some wicked Cha gear to con the simple tree fay to punt most of them to Qeynos
Couldn't have done it without ya! I'm actually getting close to 48 gotta be careful not to loose my spells.....might have to do my annual exp day pretty soon
Michael, I just wanted to let you know how much I enjoy your vids. I never appreciated the awesomeness of what is THE GOLDEN EFREETI BOOTS until M.S. vids. TYVM!!! Do more......like 3-4 a day.....the world needs more vids. Oh....and Qeynos….I should have known that one, but I didn't.
Yes! Kurn's Tower is my favorite zone in the game!! :) I really dig the Field of Bone, too, like the hidden underwater thief caves in the northwest, the mysterious 'abandoned crypt' that supposedly houses a ghost that appears at midnight on Halloween or something. AND WHAT LIES BEYOND THE SECOND FLOOR OF KURN'S TOWER? WHY DID THE STAIRWELL COLLAPSE? I WANT TO KNOW.
That nightmare fuel ending... D=I remember when you could trade gold to fire beetles. Put a plat piece on each one in the Freeport starting zone then watch the killing frenzy when word got out...
Love your videos, I was a lore junkie when I played. I have a request, if you dare. The Glowing Black Stone. Pyzjn. Varsoon. What is the connection?!?!
To be honest it would be awesome if this became an Everquest lore channel! There are barely any youtubers who cover Everquest lore and even though I've been playing Everquest for over 17 years, There is still a crap ton of lore that I don't understand about the game.
Really hope you decide to do more EverQuest lore videos like this :D Doesn't have to be mysteries just basic lore :) Been looking for videos like this for forever lol
I came across your videos when looking into eq lore and I gotta say they are among my favorites that I've seen dunno if you still check these but thanks man good info and laughs
This past summer I spent so much time in that Permafrost room grinding, and everyone I invited would question both the chelsith stone and the frozen king goblin =P The rare spawn in that room is "a goblin scryer", which is probably the best indicator in terms of EQ1 as to what the stone was used for.
There's something about some tiny, emaciated, hunched over old man saying "Smelly creatures at my feet, me thinks you'll be good to eat" that just makes you giggle. :D
I've always wondered about the "obscure factions" that don't really seem to have a purpose (Anti-Mage), factions that exist but have no NPCs attached to them (High Council of Erudin, King Tearis Thex), and some that are just plain weird (HotWingz, NeriakGhoul). Also hidden ones like the Aviaks in SK. What's their deal with the specific races? Some can use their merchant, some can't, but the selection of races able to seems completely random.
Concerning the chelsith stones: it does remind me of a calendar. There are four seasons on the outside, and in the inner we have a set of 9 dots representing months of growth, and three representing months of winter. The center reminds me of the most famous and pervasive myth related to seasons: the resurrection as in Demeter’s stay with hades during the winter.
Did you ever get any new informations regarding the runes and symbols? what if it has a meaning? strange things happening ;) i would like to digg deeper into this got any more infos? :) thank you
Great Video! I started my EQ career inside Plains of Power, and I ended my EQ career during Gates of Discord. I still carry that EQ magic inside my heart though
What is "Lost Marble" for? It's foraged, can't be sold, no quest tag... I tried giving it to Clukker the Crazy in Plane of Mischief, because clearly he's lost his marbles! Lol. I can't find any npc text or old forums that lead to what this is for... mystery!
At the middle of the screen, deep in the corne ahead, between the two rightmost pillars, there is a face on the wall. There is a horizontal line is his (sad) mouth, right above that is his big nose, and above that the two eye, then something that he wears on top of that. The same face can be seen on the left side, but the right side of this face is missing. Am I crazy?
Is it possible the Chelsith stone is an sort of an Ouroboros? Predicting the creation and the end of the world - Kind of like the Wheel of time Series..
Emperor Ssreashza knows all. Therefore he can predict everything. It is like you said a doomsday calendar. The Shissar knew that the Shattering, the collision of Luclin and Norrath splitting the world into several continents, and was able to make sure the Shissar were in a good position. You can probably find out more in the EQ2 forums for lore and stuff

Saddest part of my life was he stopped making these videos. They were great and best gem on youtube.
My heart sunk as you were making the joke about these videos ending. Please, never stop making them!!

As soon as a Michaels Shenanigans post comes up with EQ I stop what I'm doing and come watch it.
Same here
EQ is life

Your videos are so fun. Your editing skills in particular are just top notch. Please never stop! :D

Please never stop investigating. This is important work.
I hope you know your hard work is appreciated!

What server do you guys play on?
You're videos are so uniquely funny man. These always make me laugh, well done.
I absolutely love these videos, man. Keep up the great work.
your tales are magical my friend.
I was indeed enthralled !
Dear Michael,
Thank you.
Beautiful, as always! It's always a good day when you upload!
Thanks for the upload as always, my dude. Keep up the great work!
Your editing is really goddamn good. You deserve more attention. Also, I've taken in interest in this game thanks to you.
ty! I do all this nonsense basically so I have something to edit : )
where did you learn this? i have a bunch of questions, really.
I started out trying to re create what I saw others doing on youtube and in movies and such, watched a lot of youtube tutorials, still do when I can't figure something out. Made my first video in 2013 and been trying to edit stuff ever since
well keep it up! i love your content! as a side note, i decided to only go as far back as ff11... but i am still loving this lore stuff!
My day just went from a 3 to an 11.
These videos are great man. I've watched all of your videos because of how much I loved your Everquest ones. Accept this niche following and run with it!
Thank you for these, they're so cool and fun.. big fan!
You sir, are a hero among dorks.

I don't know how I am only just now finding this page, but wow, amazing work. So much nostalgia.
Goddamit man I love your eq videos, specially bc you have something original going on and besides that you also PLAY ON PROJECT 1999! YEAHH

My family thought I was an idiot when I suddenly exclaimed, OMG a new M. shenanigans video!!!
I have been waiting for the next upload all weeeeeeek!
dude your delivery on the jokes is priceless. Thank you for the laughs.
Yes! Kurn's Tower is my favorite zone in the game!! :) I really dig the Field of Bone, too, like the hidden underwater thief caves in the northwest, the mysterious 'abandoned crypt' that supposedly houses a ghost that appears at midnight on Halloween or something. Big props to this guy. He even used a screen shot from my wedding at the Chessboard. Shoutout.
You are hysterical! Thank you for doing these!
Because of this video, my friend uploaded the sounds of Firebeetles clicking for five minutes and we listened to it on repeat for some time. Thanks!
That nightmare fuel ending... D=I remember when you could trade gold to fire beetles. Put a plat piece on each one in the Freeport starting zone then watch the killing frenzy when word got out...
God. That music gets me every single time
Love your videos, I was a lore junkie when I played. I have a request, if you dare. The Glowing Black Stone. Pyzjn. Varsoon. What is the connection?!?!
Incredibly entertaining! Thank you haha =)
Can't wait for Pantheon! Really hope it's as magical as eq and that we're still trying to figure out the mysteries 20 years later
lol pretty funny. I just wonder if the fire beetles are related to that big beetle guy in the cave on the way to the gray
To be honest it would be awesome if this became an Everquest lore channel! There are barely any youtubers who cover Everquest lore and even though I've been playing Everquest for over 17 years, There is still a crap ton of lore that I don't understand about the game.
These videos are pure magic.
Pathogen Glands??? Haha I love your EQ videos, please keep them coming!
its a starcraft upgrade!
I love your videos, man! Keep up the good work!
Really hope you decide to do more EverQuest lore videos like this :D Doesn't have to be mysteries just basic lore :) Been looking for videos like this for forever lol
The number one thing I hated about fire beetles was..As a Druid starting in Kelethin, I couldn't use my fire dot without a Fire Beetle Eye
this so true, same for a ranger
My brother used to collect them and hand them out in Kelethin. Definitely needed :p
Great video. Really enjoyed it, thanks!
These are excellent
Dude, you seriously got me considering playing a free trial just to explore my old stomping grounds.
nice! I recommend Project 1999 though for free, classic EQ goodness
Michael's shenanigans I will look into it tonight.
@@jasonhater3926 did you join us?
I came across your videos when looking into eq lore and I gotta say they are among my favorites that I've seen dunno if you still check these but thanks man good info and laughs
This is your calling, dude.
Awesome video. Informative and hilarious (great editing, btw)... damn, now I miss this game :(
Miss this homie. BEST EQ content on UA-cam.
If any one asked me, "what's the point of being alive', you sir, are in the top five reasons
This past summer I spent so much time in that Permafrost room grinding, and everyone I invited would question both the chelsith stone and the frozen king goblin =P The rare spawn in that room is "a goblin scryer", which is probably the best indicator in terms of EQ1 as to what the stone was used for.
ya gotta love the goblins.... well I do anyways, i;m not even sure why : p
There's something about some tiny, emaciated, hunched over old man saying "Smelly creatures at my feet, me thinks you'll be good to eat" that just makes you giggle. :D
I love your videos. They are so much fun and optimistic.
I am so thankful for your content - you're the man
ty!
Also. I think you should do a quick lore video. Stories about all the gods. Would be simple enough I think!
That symbol is clearly Sega Advertising Dreamcast
Never even played Everquest and still laughed at and enjoyed this video.
Yesss!! I've been waiting for this!
I just got to this video by pure chance. And you sir did a great job.
god i love these videos, keep em coming!
please more videos, i love your work!
Did you ever get any new informations regarding the runes and symbols? what if it has a meaning? strange things happening ;) i would like to digg deeper into this got any more infos? :) thank you
Thank you so much for your content
Great Video!
I started my EQ career inside Plains of Power, and I ended my EQ career during Gates of Discord. I still carry that EQ magic inside my heart though
my heart was breaking for a minute there
"You're * in our world now"...sweet videos man
Please do an episode on troll and ogre cuisine. Pickled half-ling, wood elves etc.
What is "Lost Marble" for? It's foraged, can't be sold, no quest tag... I tried giving it to Clukker the Crazy in Plane of Mischief, because clearly he's lost his marbles! Lol. I can't find any npc text or old forums that lead to what this is for... mystery!
should list the music used, that guitar theme was familiar but I can't quite place it.
good idea! I'll add to the description soon
Ah. The unlicenced rider. Thanks Kraddok!
np! I should have just told you what it was lol, also should have put timecodes on the songs : ( I'm not too bright
Michael's shenanigans Hush thyself, child. You've done us well.
Lol.. Bob sits at that same god damn spot every time in the Tunnel. A-Team represent. Good times.
8:13 Is this a face on the wall? Is it Brell Serilis? Is the half face on the left same as in the middle? Who will talk about this mistery? Anyone?
I might, but I have no idea what you're talkin about : p
At the middle of the screen, deep in the corne ahead, between the two rightmost pillars, there is a face on the wall. There is a horizontal line is his (sad) mouth, right above that is his big nose, and above that the two eye, then something that he wears on top of that. I was studying looorreee..... 😂, these videos hit home so hard
This video makes me wish for a new Everquest. I always loved this game.
On live if you sit in the wall to clip your vision through it, the red orb thing is there inside the pillars in Kurn's.
Is it possible the Chelsith stone is an sort of an Ouroboros? Predicting the creation and the end of the world - Kind of like the Wheel of time Series..
sure seems like it!
Thank you
Chance you can do a video about all the mysteries regarding the Fanged Skull Stiletto?
Omg, I haven't played eq in several years but when when the coin sound played it triggered my brain to alt tab so i can check which item I sold.
Emperor Ssreashza knows all. Therefore he can predict everything. It is like you said a doomsday calendar. The Shissar knew that the Shattering, the collision of Luclin and Norrath splitting the world into several continents, and was able to make sure the Shissar were in a good position. TROGDOR!!!
Trogdor is a man!
or uhh, maybe he is a Dragon Man!
or maybe he is just a Dragon
But still he is TROGDOR!
