      It is not lifetime for the RS5 and it's critical the fluids be changed on time per Audi's recommendation. I would highly recommend replacing the fluid on a regular basis in any car equipped with the DL-501 7-speed S-tronic, RS5 or other. I haven't noticed any hot spots!

    Hello. Thank you for this write up :)
    But I have a question: you have mentioned, that drain and fill plugs atf and mt side have an aliuminium washers. Today I started servising my gearbox mt side and both plugs (drain is with temp sensor like on yours car) and there was no any washers. Looked on ETKA and there no washers for mt plugs and atf side has just one washer with drain plug. So is here some yours mistakes in this write up or I dont understand what you mean aluminum washers on plugs?

    • @RS5Fanatic
      @RS5Fanatic  5 років тому +1

      If it was four liters, that's the manual transmission fluid (MTF) and it was the OEM Audi fluid. I had wanted to use Motul Gear 300 like I did in the differential but their tech guy didn't get back to me in time. It is indeed ok to use Motul Gear 300. I like it as it has a super high viscosity index. The full writeup can be found here: www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php/833033-RS5-full-fluids-service-how-to-(transmission-and-rear-differential)

      @RS5Fanatic  5 років тому +1

      @@johnnylopez5356 I won't laugh. You're not the first to do that and I've heard of others doing it. You'll need to get the car up on four jacks (or a lift). Go to the link above and look for the ATF fluid level procedure. The other option, which is somewhat easier, is to remove the driver's side throttle body, pull off the vent cap on top of the transmission (It's a little black thing and it pulls right off), install a 3/8" fuel hose, run said hose up above the engine bay, attach a funnel, and pour 800ml of the recommended Audi ATF fluid in there. That'll at least keep your transmission safe until you can bring it to a shop and have them verify the level properly.

    • @RS5Fanatic
      @RS5Fanatic  5 років тому +1

      @@johnnylopez5356 If you cannot get the Audi OEM fluid quickly, Liqui-Moly 8100 is also a good choice and what I use. I might consider draining all of it at this point (measure it!) and dump in what you took out plus the original 800ml. You should not drive the car as loosing that much ATF fluid will affect how the transmission shifts. Be very careful!

      Going by Audi's maintenance guide, it's basically every 15K, 35K, 55K, 75K 95K, 115K and 135K but changing out the ATF/MTF fluid alternates. Here's a full breakdown: www.audiusa.com/content/dam/audiusa/Documents/maintenance-schedules/MY_2014_Audi_USA_Scheduled_Maintenance_9-7-2017.pdf
      I ended up changing both this time around as I wanted to run the Liqui-Moly 8100 ATF fluid and Motul Gear 330 MTF fluid. It's not necessary to change both at each 20K interval.
      Cost wise, for both sides plus the rear differential fluid, you're probably looking at about $400 in parts alone. To have the dealer do it, it'll be around $2K unless you've purchased an Audi Care package. It's still around $1200 with Audicare depending on what sort of deal you strike.

    whats up with the cross contamination how did you manage that when using the brake bleeder with different fluids for atf/mtf? also you said you used the motul 300??? you mean for the rear dif right??? not the transmission.

    • @RS5Fanatic
      @RS5Fanatic  5 місяців тому +1

      I did not cross contaminate. I avoided this by using different bleeders OR by cleaning out the bleeder's container with denatured alcohol. For Motul, it's GEAR 300 for the rear diff. I no longer recommend Gear 300 for the transmission as the formula changed. Redline has a higher VI index now.

    • @RS5Fanatic
      @RS5Fanatic  5 років тому

      There is something called a mechatronic in the gearbox which is what actuates the clutches. It was known to be a problem in older Audis before 2012, specifically, the electronics board on the mechatronic burning out. They updated the design and added a larger heat sink. On the RS5, it's very important all the maintenance is done on time, especially the gearbox and rear differential. Make sure the car you are buying has a service history and those items were serviced on time.
      When driving the car, the shifts down should be smooth, particularly 2nd into 1st as you come to a stop. If you're getting a big "bump", almost like another car has hit you in the back while coming to a stop, it could be a sign the mechatronic is on it's way out.
      Nothing on an RS5 is necessarily cheap to fix. The good news is the mechatronics itself can be repaired instead of purchasing a whole new unit which is expensive. There are several places here in the U.S. which can fix them as well as places in Europe. If it's just the electronics board, Audi sells that separately and it's about $400 U.S. for the part. Fairly cheap. A rebuild of the solenoids and thermostat is about $500 U.S. and a new mechatronics is about $2500.
      So on the S-tronic, the three items which seem to have the most problems are the Mechatronics electronic board (this is NOT the TCU), the mechatronics hydraulic unit itself, and a gear position sensor inside the gearbox portion of the gearbox. Those are the only items I've ever head going bad and it doesn't happen often like it did on earlier Audis.
      Make sure you have a very specific diagnosis on what is wrong with the car you're looking to purchase. It is possible to change out the mechatronics unit as a whole or the electronics board yourself, at home. If it's a gear position sensor in the gearbox, the gearbox has to come out and the case needs to be split to get to it. It's a $60 part but it'll cost $2K in labor. Hope that helps and thanks for being a subscriber!

    • @RS5Fanatic
      @RS5Fanatic  2 роки тому +1

      There is a washer on the MTF drain plug. It can fall off and you can loose it when draining the fluid so be careful there. You CAN reuse it and it will even seal without it.

    • @RS5Fanatic
      @RS5Fanatic  4 роки тому

      Technically yes. You do not use a scanner to check fluid levels. Fluid levels are checked by opening the inspection port on the side of the transmission. The fluid temperature has to be within the range listed in the factory service manual (it's in the link). Once you're at the minimum temperature range, open the inspection port and see if any fluid comes out. The car has to be absolutely level when you check.
