My thoughts on the pinch bolt: definitely apply plenty of penetrating spray a couple of days in advance, use a combination Kroil and Deep Creep; remove the nut and use an impact on the bolt’s head; if the bolt spins but doesn’t come out, whack the nut end of the bolt with the nut still on; if the threads on the nut begin to deform, use a hacksaw to remove the damaged threads and air hammer the rest of the bolt out; you may need to whack it out a few times in between using the air hammer; if it slowly comes out but doesn’t budge all the way begin applying leverage in between the bolt head and spindle using spare wrenches and use a punch to push the rest of the bolt out of the way

That is difficult to diagnose without having the car to inspect, but we would typically look into tires (check if they are 'cupped' or wavy), wheel bearings (see if there is play with that wheel off the ground), or a differential mount. (You would need to raise the rear of the car completely and check with a pry bar or other means to see if there is slop in the mounts.) Our guess would be any of those before a rear differential.

Awesome video! My car was produced in November (hopefully) here’s the VIN WAUMF78K09N031292 wondering what type of lower forward control arms does it have. Also, if I have a visible crack on the upper control arms would it imply that the lower control arms are bad too? I’m not experiencing any clunking noises, just loose handling.
I have a 2009 A5 and the upper control arms are cracked but no noise. But its obvious the steering does not feel tight. My front shocks also leaking. I would think the rubber bushes and shocks on a 11 year old car has reached end of its life and they all need replacing. Once you replace all these the car will be completely different drive but cost will depend if you do DIY or garage.
I'd like congratulate Germany for having roads in such good condition, that changing various suspension parts is not a regular occurrence, as opposed to many other countries. you can drive around in a Honda Civic 8th Gen (euro version, the "UFO"), a car known for its hard suspension setup, and you'll never find it uncomfortable. you can drive in a supercar or hypercar without noticing anything on the small roads in the country side, roads normally used by tractors.

@@y19mke8 I ended up replacing the lower control arms and wishbones which was likely the cause as this issue has stopped. I do now get a occasional knock from the front right when going over certain bumps but I am also having ongoing DRC issues so likely that's related to that.
Great video. Super helpful
my 2010 a5 would have a felt shudder/clunk when coming to a stop (no noise). i thought it was a transmission problem, but the mechanic diagnosed worn suspension arms. shudder went away after replacement.
A couple questions.. What are the signs that a gearbox mount/bush has gone? Also I can hear a squeaking/creaking when driving over bumps or on turns, taken it to a few garages but no one can ID the problem. Any ideas what it could be?
Did u ever figure it out
@@1bads5 no there’s that many arms on the Audis it’ll cost a fortune figuring it out and most people I spoke to said they did that and still had issues. I ended up selling it
Why we see oil near 75mm bushing ?? Is it fill with oil??
I have no idea if this might sound stupid but what about fluid coming out of the bushings? I have fluid coming out on mine and I can’t trace it anywhere else. And no it’s not the motor mounts
Can we just change out the bushings instead of the whole assembly?
Great video!
Shocks how do you know if it’s going bad?
I have a clunking noise from rear .. I started my car up drove up the road started hearing clunking .. thought my tire was flat.. I checked nothing looking at my cv didn't see anything turned around started hearing it again.. could that be my strut?? Sounds like rear right .. my old m3 made same noise was upper strut tower..any help would be highly appreciated
I just replace all control arms the wheelbearing tire rod and and cv joint and it still making a crackling noise
struts
Mine has creaking noise at slow turns swapped the front lower reward control arms which reduced the noise but it's still there. No noises in straight line or braking. What should I change
Hey David, you may want to look into the rest of the bushings down there - especially where the upper arms meet, around the pinch bolt.
@@fcpeuro thank you will do.
2:33 which bushings are made noise ?Thx,Lukas
Front and rearward lower control arm bushings
Thx mate
Creaking noise from front left side when I steer left? Affects handling majorly the traction control lights come up on my dash whenever I turn left... Apparently it's the springs/top mounts from my research, I'm thinking of doing a whole control arm replacement but I want to know for sure what it is! (Audi s5 b8 2008)
Definitely sounds like top mounts but it might be a good idea to do control arms as well since all that stuff is probably worn by now.
Do you guys sell parts from it’s nephew SEAT or CUPRA ? Those are MQB platform and perhaps bolt on for VWs
We don't have listings for those cars, however you may be able to cross reference some matching part numbers!
My A5 clunks almost every time I begin to reverse, or begin to accelerate after reversing. Any ideas? Noise comes from the front
Driveshaft
I only get it on hard acceleration. It's easy to check the driveshaft for play and noise just grab you a partner and move the car slow while you are watching. Or Jack the car put it on stands and put it in gear and listen/watch.
What is the difference between B8.5 Q5 and SQ5 front control arms? Audi's part numbers differ by a single letter (F vs G, D vs AD). Are they interchangeable, and why?
Wish you mentioned the steel bearings seized in the aluminum control arm because of dissimilar metals.
Spent today separating the two..
Better design is needed.
There are no bearings in any of the control arms.
Hey, my 2018 Audi is just over 20k miles...when turning or harsh breaking my car tends to put a lot of pressure at the corners or nose. Also, the ride feels bouncy at speeds
My 2013 S5 has 63k and just went bad. My mechanic said it’s not typical on most cars but our Audis are very nose heavy. It depends a lot on your roads too.
I have a vibration front end. Wheels balanced and four wheel alignment which made it better but it’s still there. What could it be?
100% sure your control arms. Install a Meyle kit on the front end, it will go away.
@@ho7s0 i have the vibration at 70mph, it can come and go... Do you reckon it's the control arms, that are the problem? I've got them checked and seems good.
The vibration it's always there from ages ago, new wheels and tires didn't change anything.
@@TheSilviu8x yes they look okay but it is a design fault from Audi. The rubbers inside the bearings are nog strong enough. The Meyle HD kit has upgraded rubbers and that fixes the vibrations. I have had mine all replaced and it is much much much better now.
@@TheSilviu8x check wheel bearings
what typically causes a clicking sensation in the steering wheel when turning it stationary?
Check your power steering fluid it may be old if so flush it and refiill with the right stuff. Then inspect the rack if it's damaged you can easily tell. Sometimes brake rotors can give you the same sensation as well or if your brakes are worn badly but not grinding with noise they will give you that click feeling in the steering wheel.
Where are these parts available at a reasonable price
Hi. The movie is great, it's a pity there are no subtitles. I'm from Poland and I don't understand everything. Regards
Also the Allroad is in the B8/8.5 category
Been there and done that with the pinch bolt so many times now 🤪😜
If you're B8.5 A5 (2014) is getting pushed and pulled all over the interstate everytime you try to hold a perfect line, you're likely needing Upper & Lower Control Arms. Mine were just old but still good so says mechanics.
After trying to figure out why the car needs constant microadjustments at interstate speeds; thats it. You may need new struts, springs, alignment & rotors but don't forget the controller arms. (Wasn't the sway bar either)
We tried everything else, but it was the control arms that did it.
Would these control arms cause a tight steering to the left only if the arms were failing on this side? 110k no history on arm replacements
Hi Jeff, that is a possibility in some extreme situations. We would advise inspecting all the surrounding suspension components at the same time.
Thank you🤝🤝🤝
Bought a complete front left and right Frankberg kit (china but from Germany), will report when I crash from the hospital!
Very nice
2011 Audi A4. Got new tires , and a 4 wheel alignment. The shop says the camber is off and needs to have a camber kit to get more adjustment out of the rear to be into spec. Anyone else experience this with their Audi? I've looked around and found nothing for the rear to fix camber. All the arms are for the front.
I'm concerned about a A5 Audi Sterling system I can't turn my steering wheel I hit a rock and my steering wheel won't turn right or left how do I reset my computer
I have to change all of that
My mechanic has mentioned that "castor bushings" or "Pull rod arm" bushings need replacing. I searched a lot online, but could not find anything with that name, is he trying to charge me for something that doesn't exist?
Hello there, what do you think about Audi A6 V6 sport 2013 some mechanic in Canada they told me Mercedes much better than Audi so , the Audi fix more , is this true or not true ,and the Audi has 100000 thank you.
before i repaired the audi front suspension, i think the audi is a good car and the audi engineers are the best ... but then came the audi front suspension ...
😢
такой нагрев послабляет кулак
My S4 wheel bearing went and snapped the front upper control arm in half. OEM audi part.
The front suspension replacement all 4 pieces per side will cost you £1000 in the uk.
It can certainly get pricey!
Pro tip on removing a stuck pinch bolt; cut the head off the bolt, and then tighten the nut.
Well said, being in the Northeast my pinch bolt
Surprisingly came out with ease, just a needed a dozen or so whacks
Great video,keep make i like a lot ! Also help me a lot :)
Its called "helvetesbulten" here in sweden, the bolt from hell :)
I have a b8.5 RS5 that creaks a lot from the front end upon acceleration (when the front lifts up) and deceleration (when the front goes down). It doesn't really sound like any of these solutions fit. Any other ideas?
Replaced lower control arm and wishbone and this worked for me.
wish I saw this video like 2 weeks ago before going to the stealership to pay for diagnostic fee :/
Nuuuhhh wish we could have helped sooner Angel Sanchez! What did the find wrong?
Anybody ever gotten a passenger seat shake above 70 mph? Rear wheel has no play but front passenger does.
I'd like congratulate Germany for having roads in such good condition, that changing various suspension parts is not a regular occurrence, as opposed to many other countries. you can drive around in a Honda Civic 8th Gen (euro version, the "UFO"), a car known for its hard suspension setup, and you'll never find it uncomfortable. you can drive in a supercar or hypercar without noticing anything on the small roads in the country side, roads normally used by tractors.
my lower front rear bushing leaked out oil ,who knew they are filled with oil
In some vehicles, even the engine mounts are filled with fluid!
