so funny to be there. Went after school, lost a Jam scarf and I had hair!
I’m an American who’s aware of British subculture during those times it was a real treat to see lesser known bands, such as The Questions (who came off very XTC) and Dolly Mixture deliver a brilliant live performance but most of all, ‘Funeral Pyre” was even more incendiary live than on vinyl. This puts me smack dab in the middle of it all!
I appreciate the thoughtful considerations of emerging youth of the times and was impressed to hear the perspectives from both sides of the economic field. Overall, this is an incredible journal of early 1980s Britain and wow, how young for everyone to be so wise! Hats off to whoever put this together.
Insightful young people; I wish we saw more stuff like this now
Ahh the wonderful bands weller signed to Respond 😂 The Jam. One of the most important bands of our time
Dolly Mixture were great.
These 2 " Blistering Performances " From The Jam Are A " Stark Reminder " As 2 Just How Essential And Relevant The Band Were At That Particular Time !!! From Adrian Browne 1965
Remember watching this at the time.
this little film is as relevant 40 years on as it was then.
That is fantastic! On behalf of my 11 yr old self, my middle aged self would like to thank Paul Weller for introducing me to the reality of politics, power, and most of all, issues around class. As said by another already, everything is just the same, nothing really has changed, especially structurally. Publishing is still controlled by the toffs, it is classist, very ableist and does not tolerate neuro-diversity at all. The only change I see is in "young adult" books. Market forces eh?
Thanks for this, used to watch "Something Else" from '79( BBC2 )until it finished in 83 or so.. I remember it had the Sid Vicous music intro to begin with, later this electro-pop version, rare to see the whole show an not just the music stuff
This is rare
I'm really glad and even happy to see the rar early work from Anne Clark now on youtube, because I've always read about this in magazin, her book and other sources. I love her music and poems really much, she influenced my life by her words and arrangements. Thanx very much. ;-) to all of you.
38:39 A very young Paul Weller quoting Solzhenitsyn, it doesn't get better than that!
I cant believe it.. Its absolutely amazing that we once paid 8p for a cup on coffee ☕ someone should go and tell Starbucks the highway men of coffee!!
Sbucks is corporate dishwater.
At least, Dick Turpin, wore a mask ❗ 😂Manners were impeccable! 😂 👌
William Donnelly stand and deliver, your money for this cawfeee!! Excuse my bad American accent lol
@@Badger69-96 I'm fucking, Scottish as fuck, by the way.... 😂
AKA... Victor Mildrew! 😂
Wouldn't it be a better world if the youth of today took so much pride in understanding how the world works and actually did something proactive. Or at least took an interest in history and politics.
Wow, BBC2 in 1981 was really interesting. I'd like to watch Prisoners of Conscience.
38:20. "Whoever puts his hand on me to govern me is a usurper and a tyrant, and I declare him...my enemy!" (Proudhon). Love that quote.
Classic .......
Does anyone know what the instrumental tune is at the very end of the show when the credits are showing?
I am told it was by Paul Weller and "maybe" some other members of the Jam
@@simonwells61 I don’t think it is Simon? It doesn’t sound like The Jam? I am talking at the very end when the credits are showing. Not The Jam performance.
@@robertsmith6818 Yes over the credits. One of the contributors to the film told me it was them
@@simonwells61 Ok thanks Simon. Wish I knew what it was? I love it. Asked a friend who is a massive Jam fan and he isn’t sure what it is?
excellent
LOL, I sometimes forget how crap TV was back then 😆
Who did the artwork featured in this programme?
The extraordinary artwork was done by Robin Richards - am told he may not be sadly with us anymore - but would like confirmation. Cheers, Simon
@@simonwells61 oh Ok, thank you.ill look him up. I was in the Birmingham Something Else, hadnt seen this one before, thanks for putting it up.
@@simonwells61 hiya Simon yes my daddy (robin) passed away 2 years ago now. I actually found the negatives of the artwork to this feature!
@@LolaBlueBabe Thank you for getting in touch and I am so sorry for your loss. He was clearly a very talented man. Tony Fletcher is putting out a book of his Jamming magazines of which I believe Robin did a lot of artwork for. It might be worth getting in touch. Best, Simon
@@simonwells61 oh wow I'd love to see it! Would you know a way for me to get intouch with him? I have a few copies of the rough sketches of the jamming covers!
who has The Questions song Trouble
I want it too!
who was that first band ?
ya gotta job for me?Made in Britian still is a crack up!
Funny how The Questions sound slightly like The Jam, two years later they became more "Funky"
Inspirational! Simple as it gets! Agenda 21 Orwellian state
I tried to tell someone about event 21 and they told if it on youtube it must be true. Sarcastically. People just dont see that there's something seriously wrong with the world at the moment. It's been a mess forever but its getting a lot lot worse
Does anyone know the tune at the end of the show?
It's an unreleased Jam track from "Sound Effects" Robert
Thank you Simon. Much appreciated.
Thank you Simon,Much appreciated. I am talking about the tune at the end when the credits are showing. I should have been more clear.
Where are all those people now? Anyone recognise themselves? There was no internet then ,no i- phones ,no mobile phones only what was printed on paper or on the radio or on the 4? TV channels!!!
Scary how times passes. Annie Clark is still writing poetry, Steve Carver is still in Woking. I believe Robin Richards passed on sadly. Oh by the way, there were only 3 TV channels then and yet the quality was extraordinary,.
Hiya Simon would you know which parts Robin spoke as his tone changed in later years!
WTF is this?
UK television program from 1981 for kids and teenagers etc, called Something Else. The shit we have now...bloody hell
I need the song by the Questions at the beginning but I can’t find it anywhere
