Alternatively this could be from when Rick was still in FTJ it’s hard to tell looking at them as Bruce never alters.
It is a shame that after all this time, Bruce is still having a pop at Yes and ELO. Music styles turn on a penny, you get your three or four years as New and your old hat, whoever you are. Growing up in the 70s and 80s - we were blessed to have such a great turnover of music - form Glam, Rock, Punk, New Wave, Ska, New Romantic and 80s pop. Love it all
Good interview, but more questions about the personal breach with Weller would have been interesting. There's something that went on there that hasn't ever really been explained.
I suspect money was the main issue. Weller doing most of the writing etc. Weller is the one who could probably explain it best and most honestly but hasn't /doesn't want to.
@@youjoker9647 yes, I think you're along the right lines there. I'm not sure that was true, Buckler has recently come out & said it wasn't & that he & Foxton were more creatively involved with the act's song-writing than people have been led to believe. I suspect that Weller - possibly at the behest of his dad - "did a Morrissey", i.e. got too big-headed, thinking he was bigger than the band, & got greedy over dividing up the money, & wrecked the act as a result. Don’t think anything Weller did subsequently can be compared and don’t think he ever wanted to. The Jam were of their time, had a different vibe, speaking to so many of the youth of Britain etc. My very first gig was at Wembley for the farewell tour. Style Council and Weller’s solo career was a great period. Beautiful lyrics, melodies, humour and soul and experimenting. I’ve loved all Paul Weller’s eras and so glad I can remember The Jam as they were. He remains one of the finest songwriters of the 20th and 21st century. He’s not ‘good’, he’s brilliant.

The Jam were the best and don't dismiss the beauty of the Style Council. I gather the guys went to Woking High and I tried to enrol there for that reason (and I was kicked out of home in Welwyn Garden). Paul has an exquisite voice like Elvis Costello. They are brilliant singers
Weller should bury the hatchet. Theses guys are sharp. Honestly, apart from two or three songs Weller’ body of work after TheJam were monumental. Style Council, was derivative pop.
Shame Paul Weller has such disdain for his former bandmates. If you were lucky enough to see them live, I envy you. Paul has made it clear he will never play with them again.
These boys were in The Jam. Probably one of the best English bands, ever. Weller and Style Council, never quite did it for me. All The Jam records are essential listening.

You can make a bigger list of Stones songs 64-69 to at least equal that list (8 number 1 singles). I love the Jam (saw them 5 times) but needs to be said.
I still find it strange how Weller still really dislikes Rick ..... Rick seems a lovely bloke and everybody speaks very highly of him....the total opposite of Paul. Nobody ever mentions what the heck went on between them.
It's probably because Paul blindsided the other two by ending the band at the peak of their success. This must be an old video. Bruce and Rick had a falling out when the latter left From The Jam.
I suspect Weller, whom I consider a borderline sociopath, was irked by Rick and Bruce riding on his coat tails as he saw it, and was also sniffy about their innate conservatism. We now know that he Weller heard Rick by mistake say during the Gift sessions, that some of the songs weren't drummers' songs. It goes to show why it was probably better off that the Jam split up, because if they'd have carried on there might have been a massive rock n' roll bust up a la the Beatles.
Would've been the BEST move if Paul had reunited every few years with Bruce and Rick to make a new JAM album and tour. Then Paul does a couple solo albums and tours. Then another JAM album and tour. Etc. Etc. Keep the LEGACY of THE JAM going. THAT should've been Paul's move. Unfortunately, Paul had other ideas.
Apparently after Bruce's wife passed away, Weller contacted him with condolences and they started speaking again. Once that happened, Bruce gave Rick the cold shoulder and booted him out of their the band as Weller has it in for Rick. It almost seems as if Bruce had to choose between Rick and Paul and we now know who the choice was. Sad.
@@EM-yk1dw Rick leaving the band on his own accord as soon as Bruce and Paul started talking again doesn't really add up. It's a well-know fact that Paul does not care for Rick and I bet that Bruce wants to stay on Paul's good side and would jump in a heartbeat to work with Paul again. Just an educated guess, that's all.
@@EM-yk1dw Most likely there is. I know Bruce says that Rick left without an explanation, concerning management, but that just doesn't add up as walking away From The Jam is walking away from a very good paycheck. Think about it- 2/3 of the legendary Jam. Again, I'm taking an educated guess here but I believe Bruce would pretty much do anything to work with Paul again. Include cutting ties with Rick.

I’ve loved all Paul Weller’s eras and so glad I can remember The Jam as they were. He remains one of the finest songwriters of the 20th and 21st century. He’s not ‘good’, he’s brilliant.
In your opinion.
Album sales record sales and popular culture agree
How do I get this to stretch to what it should be? It's playing in 4:3 format and everyone's looking squashed.
Nice interview btw.
3 mates brilliant evreyone has a differ direction...a shame but hay ho its life folk we all move in different directionz...az i said i was mixed up but to see them live ..again cheerz ram
Brilliant got me photo took with Bruce 1982 whitley bay icerink

Was great, I went back the riink last year, love the jam, but weller mean nothing for me now,
Where u from I'm in Durham
how many times does crowley try and talk about the pistols instead of them!! 4 questions in a row… ooops 5.. 🙄
What year was that interview?
Best music and days of my life, they split WAY too early!?
Is that Gary Crowley ,
The fly......Music For The Last Couple? :)
Fire extinguisher played by Rick on that too, I believe.
Has anyone ever seen Bruce Foxton and Paul Whitehouse together.
Doppelgängers!
Mel Sagelord ... or Rick Buckler and Alan Shearer 😆
Mel Sagelord ... or this interviewer and Dennis Pennis 😆
@@grumpyauldman or me and someone who looks a bit like me 😆🤗😉
Rick looks like Vince Clarke's hard brother.
Do you play ‘guess who’ because you have nothing of substance to add?
@@seanie002 I thought it was apposite and mildly amusing. Sorry to offend you.
pigknickers thou art forgiven. Don’t do it again.
@@seanie002 lol
there is always one.
The Jam was great, right up there with Roxy Music, Elvis Costello and George Harrison for me
The Jam were the best and don't dismiss the beauty of the Style Council. I gather the guys went to Woking High and I tried to enrol there for that reason (and I was kicked out of home in Welwyn Garden). Paul has an exquisite voice like Elvis Costello. They are brilliant singers
How was the interviewer? It’s bugging me.
Weller should bury the hatchet. Theses guys are sharp. Honestly, apart from two or three songs Weller’ body of work after TheJam were monumental. Style Council, was derivative pop.
Listening to Weller trying to play The Jam's songs with his current band is atrocious...
@@redacted2275 I couldn’t bear to listen to it.
Shame Paul Weller has such disdain for his former bandmates. If you were lucky enough to see them live, I envy you. Paul has made it clear he will never play with them again.
These boys were in The Jam. Probably one of the best English bands, ever. Weller and Style Council, never quite did it for me. All The Jam records are essential listening.
the stones had 40 licks over 50 years right..Check The Jam. In the city,art school.away from the numbers,sounds from the streets,bricks and mortar,time for truth,the modern world,all around the world,the combine,standards,life from a window,in the street today,here comes the weekend,tubestarion,to be someone,a-bomb,in the crowd,fly,English rose,Eton rifles,Saturday's kids,thick as thieves,wasteland,private hell,smothers jones,going underground,start,pretty green,that's entertainment,man in the cornershop,dream time,boy about town,set the house ablaze,absolute beginners,happy together,ghosts,5 o'clock hero,running on the spot,bitterst pill,beat surrender..many more.All in 6 years.That's why there is a forever solid bond between band and supporters.hate the word fan,lol.Cheers!
Yes, most strange.
This is the Modern World is an amazing album, shame it wasn't appreciated in real time
if you know you know
Would've been the BEST move if Paul had reunited every few years with Bruce and Rick to make a new JAM album and tour. Then Paul does a couple solo albums and tours. Then another JAM album and tour. Etc. Etc. Keep the LEGACY of THE JAM going. THAT should've been Paul's move. Unfortunately, Paul had other ideas.
Rick is so chilled, Bruce is so bitter. Very, very interesting and inciteful.
Alex Humphries uh ? No way is Bruce bitter. He is still mates with Weller. 🙃
I seem to recall reading that Bruce and Rick dont talk now but Bruce is now on good terms with Paul??
Apparently after Bruce's wife passed away, Weller contacted him with condolences and they started speaking again. Once that happened, Bruce gave Rick the cold shoulder and booted him out of their the band as Weller has it in for Rick. It almost seems as if Bruce had to choose between Rick and Paul and we now know who the choice was. Sad.
Duff Baker Why has Paul got it in for Rick? I thought as soon as Foxton and Weller made up Rick left From The Jam.
Duff Baker yes I guess so I don’t know why Paul hates Rick so much. I bet there is more than meets the eye.
A classic combo of Premier drums and a black Fender Precision bass👍🏼
Maybe they should have got spike Milligan in with his sock filled with custard.
