The interrogator was a smooth operator, I was stuck on this for hours. Watched the original video prior to watching it here right afterwards. Good stuff🤙🤘
I don't know why Scott would think this is boring for us...it's fascinating to me. I've been glued to this video...very interesting. Love hearing each of you discuss what you see in the scenes.
Likewise... Lived out towards Tweed at one point as well. Scary to think he was there blending in with the town, then out at night being your worst nightmare!
I had watched the interrogation prior to their clips too. What was freaky is his demeanor throughout. Not at all what one envisions when thinking of a murderer.
No one is watching this? I binged it last night. It was great seeing all four of you being fans of DS Smyth! I hope you all get to meet him and share your discussion with us.
Something you guys don't appear to be aware of: Williams thought he was coming in to be interviewed about his NEIGHBOR being guilty of these crimes. That's why he's so confident in the beginning. He actually tried to frame his neighbor. His neighbor was already on the list of strongly possible suspects, and Williams knows that. So, he asks his neighbor where he does most of his hunting at. Once he finds that location, he drops Jessica's body off at that location. Then a day later they bring Williams in because they suspect him, but he thinks he's going to place more blame on the neighbor. THAT is why he's so shocked that he's being accused. And of course, he has no outs because he didn't plan ahead...
If you take those facts into consideration, he really didn't realize until 45-55 minutes in that LE is eyeing HIM as the perp. I believe since you're not aware of that fact, the whole first part of this video is kinda incorrect...
I am excited for this one! Thank you guys Please also consider the case of Stephanie Lazarus, the interrogation begins in a very different way, without her knowing that she herself is a suspect. The video shows her face the entire time and I think the interrogators did a superb job.
They got to it after a while with her, but this guy came in comfortably thinking his was there to give evidence on someone else and was quickly disabused of that idea.
Gentlemen, this is by far my favourite video I've seen from you so far (and I've seen quite a few). It basically made me actually reaching out and writing a comment (which is above and beyond my own baseline 😂). It was perfect. The material - amazing; your explanations and breakdown - perfectly clear, on point and in sync; and your enthusiasm - simply contagious. Thank you for this treat (even if I came across it two years after it was posted). You are doing an amazing job at explaining human interaction and communication, and ultimately, our social lives. I love your work ❤
I believe that the duck moment was when the DS almost referred to Williams as "just another murderer." I think that would have caused him to shut down, as his narcissism would have him quite offended. But the DS caught himself and changed his phrasing.
This is so satisfying to watch: masterful interogations, bad guy locked up, and 4 of you fawning over DC Smyth. Most watched episode on my list. Mostly because you are enjoying it so much. :)
I notice Jim starts by telling Williams he will do a thorough interview because "the last thing we want is to keep calling *people* back". Jim is letting him assume they are routinely interviewing multiple "people", so he feels relaxed at the outset and not collared as their suspect - and therefore more likely to talk.
I think Jim Smyth was so clever with everything he does here. It was refreshing to see a murdering peeping Tom get arrested without threats, raised voices or bullying. SOME Police Officers in the US must see this interview and learn from Detective Smyth.
A truly brilliant breakdown & teaching session Gentlemen. As to, Scott's claim that we won't be interested. Dude, this is EASILY my favorite of the videos on the channel! Seeing you guys totally nerding out, but fighting those clear desires to tell us every little genius trick & detail is just magical. I have already watched it at least 3 times. Now seeing those brilliant little details, I am laughing my butt off each time. Thank you for another great chance to learn new tricks. Much love to everyone from here in the UK
The small talk at the start about coffee, video/microphone, having ever being interviewed before and the police not giving up on finding the women was absolutely critical. It seems funny to hear it but upon second viewing it was deliberate from Smyth.
Mark Bowdens face expression in the beginning here🥰 like a kid getting told all about every Christmas gift he’s gonna get and he loves every one them😄 Is there a whole bloopers episode from @thebehaviorpanel out yet?
I actually lived in Trenton when this monster was on the base, he lived up the highway from me. I believe he has more victims. A young 20 yr old girl was found raped n murdered on base property, guess who was there at the time and still hasn't been linked to her murder.
That girls name is Kathleen MacVicar, she was 19 , her body was discovered June 15, 2001 very close to the base, her murder is still unsolved and you can believe that Russell was throughly looked at in solving this case
I've always worried that if someone broke into my house at night I wouldn't feel confident in fighting them without my shoes on. Now I know I'm not crazy - cheers Mark.

I am Canadian and remember being surprised when Williams confessed so quickly. Now I know why. This was a fascinating episode and I didn't really notice how long it was because I was engrossed. Your combined knowledge and experience, your personalities and dynamics and your humour have made this my weekly highlight.
I watched this when it came out and it has haunted me ever since. The fact that he appeared to be a stand up guy and his victims were randomly stalked/ chosen, and suffered long is so disturbing. My roommate was murdered in our home when I was in my early twenties, so I know this stuff doesn’t just happen “far away”. So many times I walk into my house and think of the victims he stalked and caught unawares. Sometimes it sucks being a female 😢.
OMG, I'm so sorry. That's horrible. I hope that you've taken the time to work on yourself and dealt with that trauma. I watch crime videos constantly but I stay away from cases that I know can be triggering for me and I focus on working on my mental health and helping others to the best of my abilities. Stay safe and try to focus on good things in life rather than bad news.
Jim Smyth, the guy who interrogated Williams, is very famous among crime circles in Canada. He also interrogated Michael Rafferty who killed little Tori Stafford in 2009. Smyth is a master and is very highly respected for his skill
would love to see you guys do a video on someone proven to be 100% innocent. Just so i could see how polarizing their behaviour is. Amazing video as always btw
I find that the majority of videos tend to show deceptive behaviour. I'd love to see a video where the interrogator/interviewer thinks that the person is guilty, and to see the persons behaviour, knowing they have 0 to hide
I don’t know if I’m the only one here, but I would love to watch a comparison video between a guilty person and an innocent person being interrogated. That would be so interesting to see the differences in behaviors and how they compare to each other
I have watched something like that and i don't want to watch another one. It made me so angry. Go to channel Jim Can't Swim, the title was "guilty until proven innocent" or something like that.
I've watched this entire interview at least 5 times, and every time I hear Scott say that "it will be boring" or "no one will watch this anyway"; in my head I always reply, "if you only knew!" Thanks for all your work, I love listening to you guys.
As long as it wasn't Greg. 5 minutes in and I'd be scared into admittance😆 OR Scott. He'd charm me out of an admittion. OR Chase. He's intense stare I'd sing like a canary. OR Mark. I'd sing just to shut him up 😆 ok guys.. show us what you got🤣
Chase definitelty because I think he would reveal the least to the suspect similar to Smith. I don't think Greg, Scott or Mark could hide their distain very well like Chase would.
This one was a gift - thanks for listening to our requests and providing such a thorough examination! You guys are absolutely ace. P.S. Scott Rouse = Gum Daddy.
Guys you totally don’t need to apologise for the length of this video. It’s fantastic, you talk about interrogations all the time and here is one in action, loved every minute!
Scott: "no one is going to watch this anyway" Panelists: *watches in rapt attention* Really enjoyed this one guys. Heck I was anxious for him just watching it when they really nailed him down.
This still upsets me. I'm Canadian and all the men in my family were in the military. I live in a former military house and every time I step into my basement I still think of this horror of a human being and the suffering he inflicted upon these women. What they must have thought in their final moments, looking into the face of this person they knew and should have been able to trust, it makes my blood boil and my heart break at the same time.
"He starts out doing something REALLY dumb--chewing gum" The expression on Scott's face as he slowly turns and spits out his gum @7:39 is just priceless! I spewed coffee on my keyboard, LOL.
I feel like “ nobody gonna watch this episode” is a mind virus. Plant the seed, made me want to know why I wouldn’t want to watch the full episode. Or maybe that’s plain old intrigue, lol! Either way, as if I didn’t watch the whole thing.
Ive seen this interrogation and thought the interrogator/detective was just amazing and so calmly, carefully and apparently respectfully seemed to enable the confession. Really interested to hear my favourite four break this down for us.
I enjoyed this. I like these better than the celebrity /current events ones frankly. Dude stared at that print of the shoes like he hoped it would just swallow him up and take him away, hahah. Incredible patience to deal with that. Thanks this was fun
You should do a video on UA-cam “stars” Mika and James Stauffer. They adopted a special needs child from China and then gave him up and re-homed him. They did a big explanation/apology video which was certainly a sight to behold. The body language in the apology video and in other videos with the poor child would be interesting to analyse.

Every time Scott talks about chew rate, Mark and Chase smile.
Not boring at all! As a Canadian who lives in Ontario, I followed this case closely and actually have watched the interview previously.

Same thought here.. I never heard of this man/case. Had 2 google it.. But with this 4 man.. Its can't be boring! 👍😃
I had watched the interrogation prior to their clips too. What was freaky is his demeanor throughout. Not at all what one envisions when thinking of a murderer.

The work of the detective in the full interview is superb, and is quite possibly the most impressive I have ever seen.

97k people: hi
113k now lol soon to be way more
176k now
Greg: "something that's really dumb....chew gum." Scott: nods, freezes, then spits out gum lol
Scott didn't just spit out his gum. He launched it! 😆😂🤣 That gum became a deadly projectile! "Dumb gum, huh? Take THAT, Mister Hartley!" 😂 😂 😂
Lol
When? Give me the minute
@@minkeuk549 very early on, the first clip they look at. i think around minute 7 or so. mark also notices and laughs at it. it's a funny moment.
The way he looks in the camera after Greg's comment tho 🤣🤣
Scott: No one is going to watch this.
Me: watch it and don’t want it to end. 🤣
Watched 2x already. Will watch again.
I could watch these videos all day! I wanted more tonight. 2 1/2 hours felt like 30 min.
I second that! I never want them to end!
SAME!! More more more please!!
Yeah, we find this fascinating. More, please!
“If anyone is still watching”
Hilarious! We’re all here because we’re geeking out, too!
Jim Smyth, the guy who interrogated Williams, is very famous among crime circles in Canada. He also interrogated Michael Rafferty who killed little Tori Stafford in 2009. Smyth is a master and is very highly respected for his skill
"Noone's gonna watch this anyway"
Meanwhile, everyone is blanket-to-chin laser focused haha.
would love to see you guys do a video on someone proven to be 100% innocent. Just so i could see how polarizing their behaviour is. Amazing video as always btw
That would be VERY interesting to see the difference 👍🏻
Agreed!!
I second that.
I find that the majority of videos tend to show deceptive behaviour. I'd love to see a video where the interrogator/interviewer thinks that the person is guilty, and to see the persons behaviour, knowing they have 0 to hide
Excellent suggestion 👌
I don’t know if I’m the only one here, but I would love to watch a comparison video between a guilty person and an innocent person being interrogated. That would be so interesting to see the differences in behaviors and how they compare to each other
That would be so interesting! Great suggestion!
@@randomyoutubeperson6954 Thanks man, it would be so interesting to watch! I really hope they will do it
jim cant swim channel has that
Yes somebody who has been falsely accused or just an innocent person would be interesting to watch. I would like to see this it would be interesting.
I have watched something like that and i don't want to watch another one. It made me so angry.
Go to channel Jim Can't Swim, the title was "guilty until proven innocent" or something like that.
I've watched this entire interview at least 5 times, and every time I hear Scott say that "it will be boring" or "no one will watch this anyway"; in my head I always reply, "if you only knew!"
Thanks for all your work, I love listening to you guys.
TWO AND A HALF HOURS?! I’m so happy I could legitimately cry. I love you guys ❤️❤️❤️❤️
SAME!!!!❤️
Back atchya!!❤️
@@chasehughesofficial your fans live for your replies lol
@@chasehughesofficial today just got infinitely better 😅👏🏼
All in.. for the whole ride.. LETS DO THIS!
Jim Smyth, the detective who did the interrogation was incredible
He also did the Terri Lynne McClintic Interrogation and came in during the Michael Rafferty Interrogation. He is so good
I would like to see more interrogations from this Detective.
@@a.b.d.3974 the interrogations mentioned above are on You Tube
I believe this is used by police around the world to show how its done.
@@briandoherty245 one can hope it is.
Am I the only one who would love to see an interrogation done by Greg, Chase or Scott??
Greg would turn me into puddy
As long as it wasn't Greg. 5 minutes in and I'd be scared into admittance😆 OR Scott. He'd charm me out of an admittion. OR Chase. He's intense stare I'd sing like a canary. OR Mark. I'd sing just to shut him up 😆 ok guys.. show us what you got🤣
Greg would scare the hell out of me...
I'd think I was being smart about it but all the while failing miserably...
Chase definitelty because I think he would reveal the least to the suspect similar to Smith. I don't think Greg, Scott or Mark could hide their distain very well like Chase would.
My favorite interrogation. Say what you want to about Canada...Yes there's Nickelback and snow and there's also this detective.
not sure why Scott thinks the episode is boring. it was amazing! one of my faves
Scott: "No one's gonna watch this anyway."

“Nobody’s gonna even watch this”.
1 million views later…
Who would think that???
@@tThisNThat Scott said it! 😂
..and this is the video that Mom chose to relay her message to you Scott 😅
Scott: nobody's gonna watch this anyway
Me: watches and enjoys it
Me later: watches it again and takes notes
I am so glad it isn’t just me 🙌🏼
🤣😂 yup!!!
Yep! Maybe a 3rd time. Best one yet!
Me too lol
Me as well.
"no ones gonna watch this anyway"
me: watching it the 12th time
Scott: "no one is going to watch this anyway"
Panelists: *watches in rapt attention*
Really enjoyed this one guys. Heck I was anxious for him just watching it when they really nailed him down.
Wow, two and a half hours! Thank you so much guys! 😊
I find this very fascinating. Not boring at all.
I’ve watched this interrogation so many times and never seem to tire of it.
I'm with you, Joey. There is so much evil in the world. Be proud to be Canadian. I love Canada and her wonderful people!
Aww 😊cute little fuzzy mouse eating popcorn 🍿🐀
It’s like a priest. Not only violating the individual, violating the community
@@Udontsay948 This. I couldn't put my finger on it, but absolutely this.
Scott: this is going to be boring
Audience: fascinated, enthralled, can't stop watching
"He starts out doing something REALLY dumb--chewing gum" The expression on Scott's face as he slowly turns and spits out his gum @7:39 is just priceless! I spewed coffee on my keyboard, LOL.
LOL. He did that in a few videos back to back. I kept looking for the ceremonial gum spit every video!! Always gave me a good chuckle!
I felt attacked 😆 Scott and I have the same bad habit.
Had to go back and watch that ! Lol thanks !
Same here! That was hilarious!
😂😂 Love it! I was engrossed by Greg and totally missed this! Thanks for the pointer and time stamp 🤗
I think he decided against the coffee and kept his gum in his mouth because he was worried they were trying to get a DNA sample
Good point. Maybe that’s the reason he didn’t spit his gum out, either.
Great point !!! and he didn't want to drink the coffee in case they got his DNA off the cup.
I think he gave a DNA sample willingly the same time he gave them his boots.
Didn't even think of that! 👌👌💯
Exactly what I thought!
How can chase bring up something called a “mind virus” and then just leave us hanging?
I know, right???
For real! A real cliff hanger Chase!
Totally agree 🤪
I feel like “ nobody gonna watch this episode” is a mind virus. Plant the seed, made me want to know why I wouldn’t want to watch the full episode. Or maybe that’s plain old intrigue, lol! Either way, as if I didn’t watch the whole thing.
I think that perfectly illustrates what a mind virus is!
I would normally offer a more intellectual comment but the square of hair on his head reminds me of a Teletubbie and I can't focus on anything else.
Omg same!!! I have literally stared at it the whole video 😂😂😂 I was wondering if anyone would say something about it 😂😂😂
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Love this
That’s it!
I am pretty sure there are lots of us that love 2+hour podcasts like this.
🙋
Yes! 👌😁
Me too 👍. Thanks.
I love watching these guys nerd out lol
Joe Rogan's is 3+ hours and his is the most popular on the planet ( I think)
As a Canadian this interview played on TV and was cited as being brilliant. Now I understand why. Riveted. Not bored.
It's so funny to see so many people think the way that I do! Soo excited this video is over 2 hours. BP binge junkies unite!! 🤣❤
Jim Smith has famously turned down a lot of requests for interviews or additional press but maybe you guys can connect!
By the way, I appreciate your method of always showing the video a second time after you've analyzed it. Very educational. Thanks so much.
I don't know about y'all, but that square patch of hair on dude's forehead is pissing me off.
He wears it like a giant Hitler mustache on his forehead 😮
Yes!!!
Ive seen this interrogation and thought the interrogator/detective was just amazing and so calmly, carefully and apparently respectfully seemed to enable the confession. Really interested to hear my favourite four break this down for us.
This is a masterclass in interrogation techniques.
Would love it if you guys could do an analysis of the Brett Kavanaugh/Christine Blasey Ford hearings.
Nice suggestion!
Amen Yaz!
That would be super interesting.
I laughed my arse off when Greg said it was dumb that the colonel was chewing gum, then Scott spit out his gum 🤣🤣🤣
I loved Gregg saying his silence was all the dumb ideas running around in his head and getting rejected lol
me too
That was so funny! I went back to the beginning so I could watch that. Lol that's too funny
Time spamo please. 😂
Scott doesn't spit. He LAUNCHES (as another panelist here so eloquently stated)😁
Scott, we're all still watching! Please do more episodes like this ❤️
I would love to see more interrogation breakdowns. This is absolutely fascinating. Thank you for sharing your vast knowledge with us all.
