I am admittedly a "pest " as well. Glad DNA is making leaps and bounds on cold cases. Especially with the case of the golden state killer. Not mentioned on this paticular channel but . You gotta love it.
This has to be my favorite criminal interrogation of all time. The story is fascinating and the way they captured her was priceless. I wish you would've started it from the moment she walked in. Her slow decline from that point was priceless.
In the full interrogation video they also let her leave the interrogation room only to arrest her immediately outside and bring her right back in, loved that!
For a 50 year old woman who’s been on the police force for ‘going on 26 years!’ She comes across as very childish. I’d expect a child to answer questions like this.
Stephanie whenever they bring up the murder victim: "Have you ever met his wife?" "Geez, this was like a million years ago - golly, I don't remember you guys. I could have, but maybe I didn't, I'm not really sure - geez" Stephanie with literally any other question: "Do you remember how Scott and you met?" "Oh yeah, we met on April the 5th 1993 at 2 o'clock in the afternoon, it was really sunny outside so I decided to wear my favorite T-shirt, which by the way got lost in the earthquake in 1994 and I remember being so sad about it that I went to a café which was right around the corner of where a student of mine used to live with his adoptive parents and ordered me a soothing cup of black tea and a chocolate covered croissant - because I remember the bakery ran out of donuts that day which was very unfortunate - anyway what has my love for donuts to do with this case and why am I being questioned?"
Imagine commiting a Murder, getting away with it 20 odd years, rising up through a career as a Detective then getting found out…but on top of that becoming a world wide lie icon for the faces you pulled and culpability dodging, teaching other crime professionals how to spot lies? She will never be forgotten, this will be picked over and watched by people for infinity!
i've never even remembered to do this: big huge props to the detective who swabbed sherri's bite mark for dna and properly stored..,.remember this was in the 80s!!! so not only was it collected but properly stored which is huge and case never would have been solved...dna was in its infancy then.
Yes, that was amazing that they even thought to swab the bitemark because they were just starting to use DNA in England shortly before this murder. I wonder if after Stephanie ever thought about this when she started to realize that DNA was now part of the picture. Did she put it out of her mind? Did she think she got away with this? Maybe the DNA too degraded, they would have gotten me by now? In any case, she's kicking her ass by the time they did this interview. Why was I so dumb to bite her?!! Especially since it wasn't necessary, it was just very bizarre.
@@peggypeggy4137 I agree she (and that corrupt precinct at the time) thought that they covered their tracks. Goes to show "everything comes out in the wash" eventually.
I found it very telling when Lazarus told the officers she remembered Sherri was "killed." She didn't say murdered. Being killed implies a car accident, run over by a car, plane crash, fall from a height, house fire etc. If a person shoots another person and they die the majority of people would say the person was murdered unless it was an accident. I don't think Lazarus could bring herself to say "murdered." Finally the moral of the story is: THE PASSAGE OF TIME DOESN'T DIMINISH THE CRIME!
Please do Elizabeth Holmes! I've read and watched everything to do with this case and as her trial has just started and it's not available to the public, your take would be the next best thing!

Please please please do an episode on psychics. Their linguistic techniques are widely known but I (and I hope a lot of other people) would be fascinated to learn more about how the non-verbals play into it.
yeah! i have already asked about that. They should watch some episodes of "Paranormal witness" or "Paranormal survivor" and confirm to us that those people have seen ghosts :D
I found the transcript online of what happened after the cameras stop rolling. She was still in denial of the trouble she was in. She proceeded to tell them that she would be out by the morning on bail. She was in for a rude awakening when the judge announced her bail would be $10 million. The day she had this interview was the last day she ever spent outside of a jail cell. Animal..
I know they have said they do not feel it is relevant. But they could make it relevant again. And there are enough of us left who know about the mystery surrounding her death. I would love for them to analyze Robert Wagner’s and Christopher Walken’s interviews regarding the details of the night she died.
Omg I cry-laughed out loud throughout this entire interpretation. She was beyond bizarre. Mark was killing me with the clockwork, Olympic turtling, the Victorian acting manual, Jim Carrey!! 😂😂 Hysterical. She ran the whole gamut. It’s fun seeing you all cracking up. I enjoyed this episode very much. Thanks guys!
What's frightening about this, is the fact SHE has been interrogating suspects for 25 years yet thinks THIS behaviour was convincing! She literally had 25 years to plan for this situation but this was the best act she could put on. Then again though narcissistic psychopaths think they're the most intelligent person in the room which is usually their downfall.
IKR, she should have immediately said, it seems you haven't called me here to collaborate, so I want to contact a lawyer. They would have immediately allowed her to walk out the door where officers were waiting to handcuff her. The key is they wanted to disarm her to take her into custody so she had no weapon on her.
Yes! I also always remember something Greg talked about regarding the interrogation video of the ex-colonel Russell Williams. RW was of course heavily trained in resisting interrogation etc. But as Greg said NOBODY can control their sympathetic nervous system. She was burping a lot in addition to flushing etc
Chase! My brother's a detective and he definitely has a slow movement technique or maybe it's natural. He just stands still when he listens and concentrates on your face. They he says "really?" I love it! Me, I flap around talking with my hands. Maybe I'll try your technique, too.
Lazarus and Ruetton were never officially a couple; she was a benefit in their friendship. He was a weak man who never defended his wife in any material way-he only told Sherri to ignore Lazarus’s truly psychopathic stalking behavior. Lazarus followed Sherri around, always making sure her presence was known. It was unbelievably creepy. She did all of those crazy things and more only to sleep with Ruetton a couple more times. That’s it. They both moved on and married other people. What a waste.
Well, I guess Lazarus wanted Ruetton. It doesn't matter if she settled and married another man (settled or revenge? I'll show you, you meant nothing to me OR I can get someone else too). People do that you know. Obviously she could let Ruetton go and was pissed he found someone else.
I agree with you, and why did he tell the authorities she may have done but continued sleeping with her during his marriage and after the murder of his wife? In my opinion he's just as guilty, along with the cover-up....
After all those years she had no solid alibi or credible story. That just proves how confident she was that no one would ever, ever suspect or accuse her.

Yessss... so true! Hard to remember what bed of lies you told ppl years ago. Shes trying to remember where she told the dept it went missing (stolen). That's... what she cannot recall. Women even remember when and where a piece of cheap jewelry went missing 🙄
Scott is so right about remembering a stolen gun. My brother had a gun stolen He filed the paperwork yearly for 30 years. Finally recently it was recovered somewhere in Las Vegas. He certainly remembered all those years. He did get it back ‼️
Perhaps it seems banal for the Panel to analyze content that has been done before, even countless times.... but quantity does not equal quality. Personally I would much rather watch an analysis done by The Behavior Panel than some other 'expert' (short of Navarro or that upper echelon of body language expert). Thank you all so much for what you do and the content you provide.
@Elske, totally agree. I've come to realize there are a plethora of Behavioral "experts" on UA-cam, some with a higher subscription count. However, their level of analysis is easy (overly simplistic, absolutist) whereas the Behavior Panel requires much more (to me, anyway) - studying, reading, practicing, more studying - it's great! I am so grateful they're on.
@@wrmlm37 It's just too bad that JCS doesn't post very often. I'm certain it takes a lot of time to make those videos. But it would be nice to see more of them. The Jodi one was pretty crazy but he had a lot of interesting comments on it. Same with the Lazarus one.
Not only been done countless times but this one had to be too easy and obvious for the "Fab4" of the behavior experts. I do think here they need to step it up and pick cases that require a bit more expertise. I mean I could do this one, it is screaming guilty. Sorry.
This just goes to show that no matter how many times she was the interrogator who probably seen and heard it all, when you’re on the other side/other chair, it’s a whole different ball game.
Her specialty was something like the rare art theft dept. She knows the game but I doubt she's too experienced with murder interrogations first hand. If she had one clue she'd hire a lawyer the minute they mentioned her exes name and she'd been tricked thinking this had to do with art theft
She never says that she didn’t have a fight with Sherri, she says that is not ringing a bell. Most people would remember a physical fight with someone.
And she remembers other things front that time frame with SUCH detail, but gets fuzzy when it comes to anything surrounding Sherri- as if she couldn't have cared less about her
Exactly. And it’s the fact that she wasn’t even sure if she ever met Sherri in the first place. If I wasn’t familiar with the person, I surly wouldn’t have to think if I fought them or not.
i appreciate the way these gentlemen treat each other with opmost respect. i’m learning just from paying attention to how these experts interact with one another.
Love how the detectives, caught her off guard. The past finally cought up to her, big time, and it's a pleasure to watch her squirm. I have watched this several times, and still can't help wanting to watch her goofy faces and behaviors, and the end results. She had 23 years of freedom. That poor girl's life was brutally, cut short. Talk about a green-eyed monster.
Fascinating episode. What I’m really enjoying as much is seeing more of your personalities coming over the screen. The banter is funny and makes it even more enjoyable to watch. Love the reference to Ricky Gervais as an example of lying; he does do it well.
I figured it’s the accent. It’s just so funny how he describes everything, so theatrical. I still think he sounds like a Wallace & Grommit movie or Monty Python.
When she says that John kept calling and she said, "I can't talk, I'm living with somebody", I think SHE called him repeatedly and he said that to HER. I think she tells a lot of half truths, twisted in her favour. She transposes her own behavior onto others.
Mark’s references to “Victorian theatre” and “Victorian clockwork” were dead on and hilarious, but watching Chase’s face light up with amusement at these references was everything.
Whenever a cop or army person is caught and falls apart this bad in interrogation, I think two things: 1, if you think you can do what these guys train and think you could get away with it, you've already set yourself up to fail (when Greg says you think you know what to expect, you don't. I believe him!); and 2, how embarrassing it must be to realize your interrogation tape is being used to teach bad body language. I love this one because it's probably the first one I ever saw and thought "holy cow, this person is guilty!" without knowing anything.
If they'd asked her "Do you remember murdering her?" She probably would've replied "I could have, I mean, but that just doesn't ring a bell." Ding Dong! Love it when a histrionic psycho describes herself as "mellow" and then shortly after "crazy." I'd ask her, Which one is it?!
Out of any interview I've watched on this channel I'd say this lady has got to be the most theatrical mess of constipated lies I've ever seen. Once you add in the verbal marble mouth of jabber onto her entire being its one hell of a interview to disect. I LOVE IT!!! Another great video guys. Love from Canada Ontario. ❤️
The brilliant opening remark by Greg 😊 about the position of the light switch in relation to her head was totally compelling. Each subsequent clip showed her head getting lower and lower! It’s things like that that relative newbies like me miss.
Great observation! Greg is so intentional with his movements and coms. This is a man who is beyond efficient. Wouldn’t mind booking him to chat with some of the team members at my practice ;)
Mark is my all time favorite because he just makes me smile with his energy. Great stuff all around. You all are very entertaining and this is educational as well. Can use this in my daily life. Thanks.
I remember seeing a show about this case several years ago. It was absolutely heartbreaking. I am so glad they finally busted her. She destroyed so many people because of her obsessive jealousy. The pain and loss the victim's family and friends suffered was massive. She's evil, and I'm glad they finally got her.
I’m so glad you did this one! I definitely think y’all should do an episode on “psychic” cold readers. Or televangelist healers. Sort of same wheelhouse preying on people that are looking for hope and how to spot the fraud behavior.
This woman’s facial expressions are extremely goofy and creepy. Super animated. The tough part is she’s a cop, a detective. Glad to know she no longer an active cop!!! Me too. I watch it years ago and have watched it many times. First of all...I'm sorry for the family and friends of the victim. I can't help it but I find it so entertaining on her part. Then I saw that these 4 guys dissected it and I was like ""OMG another version of her interrogation with Commentators, fantastic."" I have also went and found reviews of it with pictures of the crime scene.
"Ruetten later testified that before he and Rasmussen got married, he and Lazarus had sex one final time so Lazarus could have closure on the relationship. Instead, Lazarus began hanging around even more". What kind of person does that? He played with this woman's heart and added to her craziness. And cheated on his fiancé. Not his fault but still.
She must have been so confident that she got away with murder after all those years. I am glad that the victim and her family finally got some justice.
I'm SO glad y'all did this one!!! I'm a true crime junkie so I am extremely familiar with this story. I became a fan of y'all's with the Depp Heard trial and now I'm addicted. 🤣😂🤣 This is all so interesting, and the four of you complement each other so well. Kuddos again!!!
I appreciate Greg pointing out that it's unusual she referred to the victim as, "She got killed," instead of, "She was murdered." The usage of 'getting killed' seems to implicate that what happened to the victim was the victim's fault. Sounds like no remorse from Stephanie.
when Greg talks about Lazarus saying "I know she got killed", I think she is stating a fact. For her It's not "she was killed" but "she got killed" which indicates to me that she sees it as a consequence of the victims actions. So no remorse there on her part at all. It seems like she wants to get the interrogators to move on. Like "she got killed... what else is there to know, lets get back to work already". She basically 'dealt' with that years ago and she would like it not to be relevant any more. That's really chilling in my opinion.
@@kaymarham5486 I am just not sure that this is about distance in teh sense of it not being 'her fault' in this case (apart from distance in time because it was years ago) for her it seems perfectly normal, that "a person" doing xyz (normal behaviour for us but for her it rubs her wrong) is going to get "consequences" and she can deliver them apparently that includes killing. She is probably not emotionally connected to very little.
This woman is why I recognize immediately people like Amber Heard, Casey Anthony, Meghan Markle and how they say a whole lot of words without answering a single question
An abuser, a maybe child killer and what did meghan do to be in this group 🤔? Lie about racism in the royal family? Backed by her husband... be for real some of you are just weird

Not mentioned is that Stephanie’s husband was also a detective. During this interrogation, he was called into a meeting somewhere else and told that his wife of about 10 years is about to be arrested for a murder she committed before they met.
DETECTIVE: Did you ever meet her? INNOCENT PERSON: Sure, I met her. I hated her guts. We both went after the same guy, she got him, we fought about it, I moved on. What of it? LAZARUS: Well gosh, gee, I don't know. It was the 1980s. That was a million years ago. Ronald Reagan was president. Well, for 8 of those years. The 1980s is 10 years. So there were 2 years he wasn't president. Because 10 minus 8 is 2. George Bush was president in 1989. Jimmy Carter was president in 1980. He was president when I went to college too. In 1978. At UCLA. That's an acronym. For University of California at Los Angeles. USC is an acronym also. For University of Southern California. Or University of South Carolina. It works on either one. But I didn't go there, haha. I went to UCLA. In Los Angeles. Where I worked at the time. Or could have. Possibly. Maybe. I faintly remember. I think. [Burp]. I haven't eaten in a million years. Haha. Not really. Haha." TO HERSELF: "Nailed it!"
@@voyaristika5673 Well played you!! I know, right? During one of her longer and longer rambles, I started to expect her to pull out her own baby pictures, a recipe for French OnionDip, and to, possibly, play the accordion.
I worked in court for 15 years and I do not remember ever hearing a police officer saying "her getting killed"; rather the victim was murdered. "Her getting killed" takes the onus off the killer, same as "her getting the prize." It conveys that to Stephanie Lazarus, the victim was responsible for her death...Just a thought.

We have a term in Germany, when someone has, for example, extreme facial tics due to drugs or similar: Gesichtskirmes. I guess "face circus" would be a fitting translation. That's her. Doing a face circus... or having a face circus.
I had plenty of "face circus" back in the 90s on Ecstasy. It's great the Germans have a word for it.... even if my thick English brain can't pronounce it.
@@dannygray4898 oh yeah I agree, I had that as well it's some 20 years ago now that I took some!! I hated the face circus very much when I was on exstasy and the coming down of course was even worse for me.
Great channel guys! What would be really helpful in my opinion, is to refer to the video moment and have it playing in the background while you make your comment (assuming it’s body language not audio) so we can immediately see what you’re referring to, instead of waiting for all 4 comments and then we have to watch it again and try to recall everything all 4 of you said. It may take a little longer with more editing involved but would make for a more seamless experience IMO. Keep up the good work 👍
I agree, I love their analysis but I don't see the tells as they do so I am constantly rewinding and trying to remember their commentary. Very fascinating though!
It doesn't really matter. She could have answered all their questions perfectly well, calmly, without making the crazy eyes and she still would have been arrested right there. There's no explaining away DNA on a bite mark of a murder victim and the fact that she reported her back up police pistol stolen 3 weeks later.
I'm very familiar with this case and have watched her interragation many times. Fascinating how she can remember details as far back as her CONCEPTION, but can't recall having met the woman she so brutally murdered. Her facial expressions slay me. What a character!!!
I watched the entire interrogation on another channel and was so glad to see you guys take a look at 'something else'. To me, besides her Wallace and Grommet animated face, one of the most interesting aspects of this case is the fact she was a detective, and the 'fib' the detectives told her to get her into the interrogation room. And, how careful they had to be when interviewing her. But her expressions - wow. She's a living gif. Poor Sherry, the only real innocent in this tragedy.
Poor Sherri indeed, completely innocent and a truly lovely person. What back luck to fall into the path of a psycho. Living gif - you're right on that score too!! 😂😂

i've never even remembered to do this: big huge props to the detective who swabbed sherri's bite mark for dna and properly stored..,.remember this was in the 80s!!! so not only was it collected but properly stored which is huge and case never would have been solved...dna was in its infancy then.
They had VISION! very smart prophetic MOVE- to save her DNA when she bit poor dead Victim.

One reason I like this channel is these guys don't talk over each other. Their reactions as they listen to each other speak are priceless.
I don't think Lazarus could bring herself to say "murdered." Finally the moral of the story is:
THE PASSAGE OF TIME DOESN'T DIMINISH THE CRIME!
Nor the guilt 😢

Yes. Think of that hypocrite arresting people for sometimes minor crimes, and being happy to see them getting put-away.
Hi, I'm struggling to understand the relevance of your last three sentences. Can you expound?

@Elske, totally agree. I've come to realize there are a plethora of Behavioral "experts" on UA-cam, some with a higher subscription count. Whenever a cop or army person is caught and falls apart this bad in interrogation, I think two things: 1, if you think you can do what these guys train and think you could get away with it, you've already set yourself up to fail (when Greg says you think you know what to expect, you don't. I have also went and found reviews of it with pictures of the crime scene.
"Ruetten later testified that before he and Rasmussen got married, he and Lazarus had sex one final time so Lazarus could have closure on the relationship. I appreciate Greg pointing out that it's unusual she referred to the victim as, "She got killed," instead of, "She was murdered." The usage of 'getting killed' seems to implicate that what happened to the victim was the victim's fault. Sounds like no remorse from Stephanie.
You make a good point👍
Right??? Like John Doe stepped in2 the road and got killed by a passing car...
What Lazarus meant was “she got herself killed.” 🙄
when Greg talks about Lazarus saying "I know she got killed", I think she is stating a fact.

I'm very familiar with this case and have watched her interragation many times. Fascinating how she can remember details as far back as her CONCEPTION, but can't recall having met the woman she so brutally murdered. Her facial expressions slay me. What a character!!!
"fascinating how..... as far back as her conception" You're killing me 👊 (no pun intended) I laughed myself to the floor 🤣
I am so grateful for the Amber and Johnny case because I found you that way and now I am OBSESSED. Also yes I will buy all of y'all's books ahahaha.
Poor Sherry, the only real innocent in this tragedy.
thumbs up for reminding me of my fave creepy childhood movie
Poor Sherri indeed, completely innocent and a truly lovely person. What back luck to fall into the path of a psycho.
Living gif - you're right on that score too!! 😂😂
@@azby7933 I fell sorry for Sherrie' s parents. Good on them that they did not give up on their daughter. They were persistent in all of those year in finding their daughter's
@@kristinekrohn7231 yes indeed, Sherri's parents didn't give up but weren't listened to for years. How tragic for them to lose their beloved daughter.
I love rewatching your guys videos, I hope you do these for the next 40 years it never gets boring
