Yeah I think Chaos in the remakes of this game has like a 99% chance of hitting you even with max evasion, and I think in the GBA Dawn of Souls version of this game he has good AI, where if you get close to killing him, he'll only go for physical attacks since it does way more damage than his spells and abilities so he won't die likely, and that's a problem if you do a solo character run, but a full party with high levels and high hp, you'll be fine for the most part. This was a popular challenge run back in the day! It's SLIGHLTY easier in the post NES versions of the game since you can keep every weapon/item you find. But Chaos in this version of the game is MUCH harder, so it evens out if you ask me. Some masochists out there like to knock out three mages and do a single White Mage run. Those guys are hardcore.
I still prefer calling the mindflayer-kin in Marsh Cave "Wizards" - I like the idea that they're evil wizards but don't have any good combat spells so they just wail on you using their (presumably enchanted) staves and wear protective robes.
I can CONFIRM, without seeing any of your video, that this is possible. I went through the PR with four White Mages and was able to beat it, though I had to grind to absurd levels since even Holy paired with Masamune doesn't do much damage to Chaos. What helped was giving specific roles to my characters: one had purely offensive spells, one had pure healing, one had pure support, and one was a jack-of-all-trades I used as backup (though I had to give them all Holy). Being able to Silence Astos was a huge help, while the magic items got me through mobs whenever I needed to grind. The Piscodemons in Marsh were a tough fight, so I had to spam Ruse until my characters became untouchable. Otherwise, not too difficult. Edit: oh yeah, I got Ordeals, the Ice Cave, and the Class changes before Marilith.
I must have been OP because when I did the Chaos fight, only the Black Mage with Heat or Flash or whatever it was, and the White Mage with Holy was doing anything to Chaos. (Pixel Remastered), the two fighters had to be used for ethers to the other two.
the funniest thing about that was that Black Mage was reading the Nintendo Power strategy guide (from 1990), which actually did have a suggestion (near the end) that you could play through the game with four White Mages if you wanted a challenge
Not only that, but they defeated Chaos off-panel and in between pages. The greatest anti-climax to have ever been done, and that madman planned it from the beginning.
Yes, I've done it. Great thing about being a kid and having too much time on your hands and only one game. I learned how to use the heal helmet on all party members, use the bane sword on all enemies. It just took forever and I maxed out if I remember correctly. This was almost 30 years ago.
I wanna play this game again honestly. I can’t help but tear up whenever I hear the opening theme. Good times man. Good times! Keep up the great content! ❤
It took me until the final boss to realize that haste and protect stack, and I found it out of desperation because my characters were under-leveled and I refused to go back and grind. Thankfully, I beat it! It feels like more of an accomplishment when the odds are so against you
I just now found your channel while finding some Final Fantasy 1 content! This is so cool to see you play Final Fantasy 1 with 4 of the same class. I saw another video on your channel where you try to beat the game with 4 black mages, and I'm going to dive into that after I watch this video. I think running in the NES version of FF1 is more likely than the remakes, but that's just me since there's a bug in running where if the luck stat is 16+, you have like a 99.9% chance of running except with unrunnable encounters like ZomBulls, Zombie Dragons, Water Elementals if they're by themselves, Earth Elementals, Fire Elementals, Ice Gigas's, etc. I have a video suggestion for you if you'd like: Any chance you'll play the GBA Dawn of Souls version of Final Fantasy 1 with either 4 of the same class, or a single character run? I saw BlueAnkylo do it, it would be entertaining to see you do it. I'm going to go ahead and click that subscribe button! You deserve my subscription. :)
Thank you, for the time being I am only focusing on the pixel remasters so playing the GBA version isn't that likely and I already have some stuff in the works, but I am kinda slow. To be more specific one is a 4 monks run and I am being walled by Chaos, while the other is a Final Fantasy 2 run, I am trying to beat it using only items, it seems doable but it is extremely time consuming.
For 4x White Mages NOT really even at lv 99 odds are Chaos will be constantly restoring 9999 HP FASTER then 4x White mages can DAMAGE it. 4x Monks is doable on ALL But Chaos by lv 99.
A Red Mage is an slightly weaker _(HP/DMG)_ Fighter with access to early-to-mid magic, so I'd guess it's reasonable enough. Probs runs you a really expensive setup due to spells + equipment
Try four Black Mages. Granted Nuke helps, but not having any healing spells makes the game incredibly more difficult. Four Thieves would probably be the hardest to deal with. On the NES.
Giants gloves are an obscene item. A master can use that item.... The spell itself is fairly poor. Black wizard has notoriously poor attack. Even with cats claws, I'm not sure it's worth it lol
"Four White Mages!? It'll never work!"
8-bit Theater 😄

Four white mages? Is this 8 bit theater?
Thank you!
One of the best online comics
Miss that comic.

I’ve only recently played this game for the first time, these videos sure are making me want to play it again in the way you are. Great job, mate!!
Thank you.

I was one of those sociopaths who did a white mage only run. I pretended it was Yuna going around messing people up. (I was young and VERY into ffx)

The Pixel Remaster? Which removes the grind spot at the Western Keep?
Absolute madman.
finally, a video that scratches the itch of my really niche need for interesting FF1 content that isn't 40 minutes long... lol
It kinda looks like the white mage is giving the enemy the finger as he casts his spells lol😂

Well, you should give it a watch. I didn't upgrade the withe mages to Wizards for example and I was at roughly level 33 when I beat Chaos.
I must have been OP because when I did the Chaos fight, only the Black Mage with Heat or Flash or whatever it was, and the White Mage with Holy was doing anything to Chaos. (Pixel Remastered), the two fighters had to be used for ethers to the other two.
Four white mages? That'll never work.
"Oh goddammit."
Keep posting more challenge videos, I watched the black mage run before this one and you're getting better.
Thank you. I will.
This is exactly what I was looking for. Subbed!
Low level, No Class Upgrades, No Holy and No High healing....
Holy shit, FF white mages are the stronger healers of the multiverse?
Now you are ready for 4WM on NES FF1.
BM: Four white mages? It'll never work.
*much later, four white mages defeat chaos*
BM: Damn it.

I was hoping somebody would say this quote when I clicked on the video. Glad to see others who know of 8-bit theater.

I cant even beat this withe a normal party this chaos is tough in this version

They missed a weapon, Thors Hammer

Thanks and good luck!
Eccezionale veramente!! Complimenti davvero
Grazie.
what about the red mage, does that exist in this version? Would you be willing to give it a shot?
A Red Mage is an slightly weaker _(HP/DMG)_ Fighter with access to early-to-mid magic, so I'd guess it's reasonable enough. Probs runs you a really expensive setup due to spells + equipment
I did four red mages. Had to grind to level 73.
Buddy did you not see the tas at gdq?
Try four Black Mages. Granted Nuke helps, but not having any healing spells makes the game incredibly more difficult. Four Thieves would probably be the hardest to deal with. On the NES.
Very nice!
These days, I have a hard time starting up FF1 and *not* choosing 4 white mages. It’s the quintessential challenge!
The existence of spellcasting helps a lot.
Now try 4 thieves!
yes op it is possible. it might in fact be the first challenge run ever
Giants gloves are an obscene item. A master can use that item....
The spell itself is fairly poor. Black wizard has notoriously poor attack. Even with cats claws, I'm not sure it's worth it lol
Increíble!!! 🎉
Yes. It can be beaten with 1 white mage at level 1.
What version is this? Do you have mp or a set amount of spells?
Pixel Remaster on Steam, so spell charges.
Did this and they get op late game.
I subbed.
I somehow completely missed this, thank you.
Now do it with one white mage
I dont understand how can u cast lighting and saber with wg :((
There are items that let you cast those spells, even without being the appropriate spellcaster class.
I was hoping for an NES run. Yeah, it's broken af. That's why it's difficult...
Thanks for make

Try solo white mage.
Recreating the nintendo power challenge I see
...4 holys
Now do solo white mage
Only White Four Mages
This game was soooo hard
I did it.
4 white mage isn't impressive, other people have done duo and solo runs
Wow you are skipping huge chunks of the game in this video. Not at all what I was hoping to see..
Just speak your own language at this point.
