Thank you for making this video. You answered a question I had about the mechanics that I couldn’t find or really overlooked on the wiki. Thief glove does help rare steals. Everywhere I read said fixed 40-80% nothing boost rare steals, but by nature of increasing the chance that steal hits, it does. Thank you for clarifying.
Thank you for the comment, and you're quite welcome. It's an indirect increase as you won't get more of the rare steals compared to common, but you do get more per steal attempt 😊
About 8 years ago I did a playthrough of FF5 collecting 5 of each armor and 9 of each weapon (or as many as possible if 5/9 is not possible). It took a whlie but it was a lot of fun. As you go over in the video, the game is full of interesting items to steal. It makes exploration really fun.
Lol i was actually looking for a ff4 steal guide, but decided to watch this for nostalgia, as this was the first ff game i ever played. Awesome to know that i didnt miss a single unique steal! 😂
I do love how the classes work with each other well in ff5. Besides return and steal or control and learning blue magic there are such a lot of fun combos one can come up with
Good video, hard to hear you a bit but I understood everything just the same. I gotta say the Titan, Gaia hammer steal, is one of the most frustrating steals to get and it makes me REALLY happy they added the autosave feature. To me that's the FF9 Fairy Flute equivalent, two very powerful items early in their games but you have to give up on searching for a career to have a chance to steal it.
Thank you, and thanks for the feedback, I know there are still a lot of things to improve in my video making. Yeah, it is a really bad one if you want to steal it from there. It is, as you say, really strong, but so worth it if you manage. 😊
@@Slerran Audio is the worst, I usually have the worst audio with streams but just take some time to mess with your audio settings, and make sure your mic is facing the correct way (if you have an external), I had mine for years and didn't realize I had it facing wrong. As for the steal, it's a good one, I got it once on a Ps1 file and Faris went berserker all of W2 up until Exdeath's castle, I wish there were more steals that gave weapons that weren't accessible until at least 2 towns further so you'd be more incentivized to use thief.
Agreed! I did not have an external mic when I was recording this, but do now and I think my audio has improved at least a little. It is hard to find the correct settings still and I do have the unfortunate habit om mumbling a bit :P Nice one! Yeah stealing is OK in the game but it could most certainly have more epic steals. One of my favourite steals is the Flame Ring you can steal from the Red Dragon in the "Monster"-in-a-Box"-chest in the Barrier Tower. It can be repeated even without "Return" since the chest closes when you run from the dragon.

Steal having a base 40% chance is pretty terrible, no wonder the ability is so underrated. I'm used to it having a "bypass accuracy check" level of default accuracy, having only the enemy's steal rate matter.
you've mathematically explained why I found the steal mechanic in FF games generally annoying, and I enjoy the game more just not dealing with it. Not really fun to try 33 times to get a 50% chance to get a rare item. And you have to use a guide to figure out where to steal.
I can understand your frustration. Stealing, as you say, almost requires that you have a guide. Rare steals are quite something to try to get in this game. It takes a lot of patience
It's worth noting that the Fire Powered Ship is only inaccessible during the first world during the brief period between completing the Library of the Ancients and acquiring the airship, it's right next to the airship when you land it at the Catapult, though in most scenarios you probably don't need hi potions enough for going back there to be worth it
Wait a minute, can you enter the Fire-Powered Ship from the catapult? I honestly had completely missed that you can do that. That makes those steals at least more useful. 👌
It's probably useful to enter if you want to get the missile blue magic since you can only get it by using a beast master which isn't available during the initial dungeon there.
Steal is the most annoying mechanic in any and all games. Every time I play FFIX I instantly regret it when I realize every boss fight is 10 minutes of failed steals.
Yeah, stealing in FF9 is somewhat of a nightmare. Especially if one wants to get all items, which I usually try to do. I can definitely relate to that feeling. At least it gets a little better with master thief, though I wish you'd get that earlier in the game. Stealing can be fun imo but it can also be a huge pain in the a** 😅
Funny, thats exactly why I like IX. I've always enjoyed quicker casual runs. That being the case I will try and steal whatever I can while enduring the boss fight .
Missed Blitz Whip from Flaremancers. Also, Sehkmet can be Captured after being stolen from for more Thieves Gloves without running away. I think you mentioned Protect Ring from Soul Cannon but didn't show it. Pretty good list. Covering neat or unique drops would show off even more of the game. There's a lot of cool items in this game IMO. At least with Twintania, the axe is a common steal while chraging Gigaflare. Too bad Tinkerbell is a rare drop NOT while charging Gigaflare, so certainly the most annoying battle.
Yeah I never realised the Blitz Whip was not obtainable any other way, good point! I would not have expected to be able to capture Sehkmet and still keep him around, interesting point. Thanks, there are indeed many good drops as well but I decided to focus on stealing in this one :)
Stealing Mythril Swords and then selling them is a good (if tedious) method of getting money in the first world, especially in a low level game or other restricted runs where you have access to stealing.
The Harvester around Crescent Island have Death Sickles. They're pretty strong and have a chance of casting Death. I used it religiously before obtaining the Twin Lance. It should also be mentioned you can find flame Rings through the Alchimia's Toad. Just use a Maiden's Kiss on it and it'll become a Red Dragon.

While this is late in the game and there are dark matters in the pyramid, those are fights you might want to skip and there are still enemies in the void you might want to kill with Death Potion mixes like form 2 of TwinTania and Necrophobia's barriers or even Iron Giants if you want exp (not needed with Chemist, other than to show dominance).
