I have actually done this on the Origins version. It was one of the most painfully grindy experiences of my entire life just for all the battles spent whittling down to one enemy and spamming the healing staff/helm so they had a chance of surviving.
If I remember correctly, the Black Mage gets the least health of all the characters, making them more likely to get 1 shot by the Kraken and Kraken 2 at lower levels. Another fantastic video!
Now this is a blast from the past. I first heard from the final fantasy games before I even ever played one; because of flash movies on newgrounds. At some point, I read the report of someone beating it with four white mages; stating, "Next time, she's going in solo!" at the end. ...though that never happened. Anyway, at some later point, I first experimented with emulators and played the first Final Fantasy. It was amazing, and I loved it. Some time after that, Final Fantasy I & II Dawn of Souls appeared for the GBA, which was the very first time I actually bought a Final Fantasy game (and before some fool states something like "Uhhh, but emulating a game that you cannot possibly even buy is LITERALLY the same as theft!", no, it's not, as soon as I was able to buy it officially, I did. Also, back then, I was like 12 or 13 or so, so I received 10 EUR per month as pocket money. Buying a game for 40 EUR meant FOUR months of waiting time; unless Christmas or my birthday happened to be in that timespan) and man, did I love it. In a similar fashion, I also emulated FF IV, V and VI before later buying the re-releases, all on the GBA (the second game I already had, and the third I just never got to play). Either way, seeing that Black Mage sprite takes me back so hard. Watching all those flahs animations, and wondering just how it would feel to actually play that game. In an ironic twist of fate, I picked up FF XIV like two years ago, and don't like the black mage class in that game at all, haha.
1:27 Where is the cat claw from the mountain city? Can’t remember it’s name. The place you can only reach with the airship that sells level 8 magic and the final buyable stuff? Or is that only the black wizard?
That was a really fun watch actually! In the description you said to forgive you for your pronunciation, but I found your accent really endearing, you got a sub from me!
I tried this on NES when I was kid in the 80s. Aside from how hard it was, the sheer cost of spells turned me off the idea. I gave up around the marsh cave, I think. Good work to you though! I’ve never seen your videos before, and I don’t why I had a FF video pop up in my feed, but as soon as I saw the thumbnail, I was excited!
Well done! It's a shame black mage becomes so weak late game. They are only worth to buff the warrior/ninja/monks of the party... That's why I usually go Red Mage instead 😅
Would love to see how much harder this is on the NES or PS1 version. The spells cost like 4x as much as in the Pixel Remaster, and from what I can see in this video vs. my own experience with the PS1 version the damage from spells seems WAY more consistent. I remember even high-level spells having an insane range of damage like 50-200, and in practice they seemed to low-roll constantly to the point that it was not really worth using. In comparison you're getting consistent 100+ damage values just from stuff like Fira.
@@brykanst9071The NES version is actually MORE difficult. Many of the spells for the black mage are glitched in the NES version. Further, you encounter much stronger enemies much sooner. You encounter sorcerers and mages in the ice palace, both of which can instantly KO party members. At that point in the game, those spells have a decent chance of success. You also can end up targeting an enemy, after you've already killed it, completely missing the attack; to avoid this you have to have each of your characters target a different enemy.
Do you have a community tab or something? I don't final Fantasy, but I black mages always been one of favorites. And, you video was very enjoyable. I just wanted to share with you the fanart if you will, that was made from this. I thought you might enjoy it.
On all ports you can farm the pisco demon marsh cave boss for exp just move off encounter square and then move back on repeat for tons of GP and EXP makes Elfheim grind super fast
Yes do I recommend it HELL no even when doing a 4x exp run for the entire game 1 White Black mage + warrior and Monk by lv 99 I had ALL but the Black Mage at 999 HP I had the Black Mage at 940 max HP. But yes due to NOT having a actually MP state in this version of FF 1 I do NOT recommend doing a 4x Mage run UNLESS its the RED ones only.
Ive beaten all the singie player FFs except part 1 Can't beat the final boss. I wasn't prepared when I got to the point of no return and by the time I get to that brutal dungeon I mever have enougj gas left in the tank. But I'm about to try it again in a few days after I finish beating part 4 for the 4th time
This is about a billion times easier in the pixel remasters. Why, you ask? Because SquareEnix added ethers and phoenix downs to the game. Originally, there was no way to revive a downed party member, or restore spell charges, without going to a town. The white mage eventually could get life spells, but obviously that doesn't apply to this challenge. The pixel remaster also has much better healing items than the original game. Imagine trying to do this without all the modern conveniences added.
Worthless? Wait, don't tell me you made your life exponentially harder by not picking up Temper and Haste. Buffed melee damage VASTLY outpaces direct spell damage. Elemental spells are only good at low levels and for crowd control. Compared to Haste and a couple Tempers on one character, they suck vs bosses, even hitting elemental weaknesses. Pick up the Giant's Gauntlet for Saber and max out melee damage quickly.
I have actually done this on the Origins version. It was one of the most painfully grindy experiences of my entire life just for all the battles spent whittling down to one enemy and spamming the healing staff/helm so they had a chance of surviving.
All hail the healing helm and staff
And the Bane sword!
I knew Luigi was a ff fan.
"The plan wasn't to grind that much"
Sounds like me trying to find those rare enemies for the bestiary, lol
I beat FF Tactics with only Black Mages on a whim. Thankee for this!
Please do more! I’d love a run with final fantasy V Blue Mage! Awesome content!
Very nice video! Hope for more of those challenge runs in the future!
Thank you.
I will, I am just slow.
@@call_me_calleI hope I can see the shadow red mage money gang.
If I remember correctly, the Black Mage gets the least health of all the characters, making them more likely to get 1 shot by the Kraken and Kraken 2 at lower levels.

You have a fantastic playthrough!!! And your accent.... damn, you're so smooth, keep up the great content!!!

deserves way more subs and likes for the shear awesomeness of doing this challenge
Thanks.
Make four black mages, use items to turn one of them into a powerful fighter while the other three die off, and beat the game. Love it.
Did Mario do a challenge run of final fantasy? Holy shit. 10/10
Black mage can also equip the cat claw dagger for decent damage
Gotta upgrade to black wizard to equip that one.

That sprite will forever be 8 Bit Theatre to me,more so than FF1.
Sto giocando a questa verzione del gioco per la prima volta attualmente (ladro/rosso/bianco/nero)... sei molto più coraggioso di me, amico!
I love their cute little sprite. With their tiny hands outstretched 😂
That was a really fun watch actually! In the description you said to forgive you for your pronunciation, but I found your accent really endearing, you got a sub from me!
Yup. Did it on the NES. But can you beat it with one White Mage?
I really enjoy your voice, its almost like Lofi, really enjoyable while relaxing!
I’d guess four thiefs will be the hardest combo.
Nice job! keep it up.

betting NES version is easier seeing as last boss has 10% the HP
@@brykanst9071 spells do less damage though on NES, as there is a programming glitch where magic damage doesn't scale with intelligence

i just did this except i spent hours trying to get x-potions and not a single one dropped
I always wanted to try this as a kid 😂😂
IIRC, I originally beat the game with 4 Warriors. I was naive to RPGs at the time.
Great run, I want to do one of these too now.
Btw, sei italiano per caso?
Thank you.
Sì.

One thing I hate about this version if the game is tue text boxes. With the retro style graphics it's very jarring

You can beat it with 1 black mage. It's been done.
Good job.

This is a lot of fun, although you speak very fast. I had to slow the video playback speed down so I could understand you.
I recommend trying this in the original NES / Famicom version 😂
I know what that entails and I know that I don't really want to go through that.
Nice!
buenas maniobras magos negros

4 thieves, no ninja upgrade

Magi. Magi is the plural of "Mage," dude.
If you really want to be that guy; magi is more for the plural of the Latin magus. Mages is an acceptable plural for mage, dude.
Vivi x4
Is that a Swedish accent I hear?
In another video I was kinda asked if it was a Spanish accent, but no, neither of those. I am Italian.
Mario plays Final Fantasy. I can barely understand what's being said.
2nd Tiamat fight, break will kill him
Yes, easy… but I have only done it on NES.
Shoutout to you for speaking english but I can't understand a damn word dude

What a weird excuse to want to grind. Nobody would have cared if you just did it instead of saying your source said the tonics weren't for sale...
Good vid.
