If you remove the seat bottom and remove the cover and expose the foam, use a hot steamer for clothes and pump it into the foam. Itll bring back the foam bolster. I did it on my acura seat a few years ago and its still holding up.
That is a great upgrade. The new seats look like they belong in there. Oddly, they look more like they belong than the original C5 seats. I need to do something similar to the old Volvo. 400,000 miles have taken a toll. Thanks for the inspiration.
Great job and amazing mod Jake..and as always nice wiring and explanation. Still can't understand how this channel doesn't habe at least 250k subs already
I agree, because he's always doing something different, and goes into detail about thing's really well. I hope that with more car's in the fleet, he'll get more subscriber's.
Toyota did something similar. The MKII Supra had manually pumped bolsters. The MKIII had power bolsters with 20 way adjustable seats. The MKIV just had seats. Yeah...
I asked why the C5 seats were so bad when I first went to the Corvette factory, and the engineer told me that the C4 seats were too narrow for a lot of people, so they design the seats so bigger wider people could buy it. Sales went up, but so did complaints. I asked why not offer a GT seat option. They said "we never thought about it." The C6 did offer something like that, though, lol. The C6 shifter is a much better and cheaper upgrade to the C5. So is the linkage, but hard to install.
FYI I had a 2012 Cent Z06 which I tracked alot. My C6Z drivers seat felt loose and I thought the plastic interior frame was broken...I too it apart, the plastic frame was fine. I had an upholstery shop replace some of the old form (sides) AND I had them add in a metal reinforcement to plastic frame. WOW what a difference, ZERO give. best seat ever after that.
Changed the seats from manual, beige cloth on my 2000 Mk1 Rover 75, to heated, electrically adjusted black leather with grey piping from a Mk2, much more support, better looking and easier to live with!😊
I had a brand new C5 2000 with the custom buckets and they were everything you wanted, without going to C6 , I loved my seats , loved my car Had it to 2012 never an issue
As usual solid quality video Jake. To echo the thoughts of people down below me I don't know how you don't have more subscribers. You just solved a problem that I guarantee hundreds of people have dealt with. For your next video on this car I think that you should focus on one fixing anything that is blatantly wrong and two focus on updating creature comforts and mechanical things that make the car easier to live with on a daily basis. I know that hundreds of youtubers have done this already but I've never seen one for the C5 Corvette and I really want to get your unique take on it. Anyone reading this comment if you agree with me please give me a thumbs up. Not only will it help push the comment to the top but it'll also make my day.
As a person with a jacked up back, comfortable seats is a high one on my list, because a bad seat can make your drive a very painfull one. I like how you try to do thing's right, because it's pretty annoying to get a used car where someone does a hack job, leaves out nuts and bolts, wire thing's up that could burn the car down, or replace the plastic retainer clips with a million zip ties. I like you, your fiend tyler, john ross, the ninja, and m 539 restorations because you do thing's right, and don't just use the cheapest crap to do repairs. That guy sreten from m 539 restorations may go a bit far with his ocd, but his stuff looks new, wish i had pockets that deep. Those seats look like they were meant to go in that car, nice job. G-d bless y'all.
Had a 1999 C5,purchased used in 2000, and I really do not know what you are talking about with the seats. Never experienced any of the problems that you are referring to. Maybe buying a car that is around 25 years old has some inherent problems that are just age related. Maybe not . Hope you get it figured out because with your back problems, this needs a solution. Good luck Jake ! Keep in mind, till the C8, Corvette never put much emphasis on their interiors! It seems that you did get the desired result you were after by the end of the video. Awesome. For me though, for the four years that I owned it, my C5 did not have the severity of problems the you needed to address. I am not saying that it was the best design and comfort level of all time, but I just never thought it problematic. Of course, the car was only a few years old during the time that I owned it. Come on people, let’s get some more subs for Jake.
Jack, A great upgrade for C5. What I like about C5 is because of those pop up headlights. But I'm not too crazy about the bumper. I wonder if you would try to move C6 nose bumper on C5? I'll bet it would look great. I'm always for bumpers with opening in the middle, not at ends.
Hey I have an 85 C4 trying to swap my power seats that are cloth to the C5 leather power ones, how to I rewire them, the C4 drivers floor has 6 wires same as the C5 just trying to connect them
Nice work on the seat swap. I swapped seats from a suburban to my nephew's silverado and it was a big PITA. Why didn't GM just use the same wire colors each year? Definitely not plug and play. Future projects for the Vette? Get it a space in the garage. ;-)
Yeah, the shocks are completely blown, it's sitting too high (GM recommends lowering it a half inch), and those NT555 G2s are some of the worst tires I've ever experienced.
Horrible, like most sound systems in American cars at the time. Boomy, undefined bass and absolutely nothing else. Mids? Nah. Midbass? Not really. Treble? If you turn the dial up all the way you *kinda* get something. Listening to it side by side with a stock BMW 3 series of the same year with Harmon/Kardon is insane.
I swapped my drivers seat with a Corbeau Evo X a couple years back. Amazing upgrade for track use, if a bit of a downgrade for long highway jaunts (I just bring a camping pillow with me). But yeah the C5 seats and really the entire interior is the weakest aspect of this car.
Just purchased a 2001 c5 with 120k on it for $7500. Clean title. Slight damage to the drivers door, auto unfortunately, but ive already got a manual ready to be installed.
Came for the C5 footage, stayed for the satisfying Yeeting. Lots on unneeded parts and harnesses being tastefully yeeted. ASMR.
Hello Mr. Wizard
Daveee
“Simplify and add lightness” can be reduced to “yeet”
Jake and the Wizard, all we need is John Ross for the trifecta!
What is this, a crossover episode?

Excellent upgrade with those C6 seats!! Nice DIY project, for sure. Cheers!! 🤓
Great job on the seats. Love the 98 Corvette. Looking forward to your next video.
Real nice job. When I replace the seat foam on my New Edge, I also used zip ties instead of the hog rings. Shout out to Tyler Potter on that.
Yup, I will have to upgrade mine at some point but they're not too bad at the moment. 👍🇬🇧

Been here with you since 30k subs and can't wait to see what that number goes up to!
Don't you have to pay Sarah-n-Tuned a royalty fee for the use of the bolster test?
You're the man Jake!! Very helpful vid! Like others have said, I don't know why you don't have more subscribers!!

You can add seat heaters to that super easy.
I believe it already has the seat heaters, I just have to add some switches and power to make 'em work.
There were two different seats offered in the C5. Your car with few options has the basic seat. You could also get a C5 with the optional Sport Seat.
yes I posted this later in the feed they were by far great seats I loved mine , over 80,000 miles and never slid out of my seat
Yup. Don't have a problem with my 50 AE Sport Seats. Electric bolsters fix one of Jake's complaints.

I am surprised that you seeming to be a big BMW guy didn't go with a Z4 or Z4M..... I love both Corvettes and Z4s. 😊
Great step by step and turned out great !
Love a Vette!
Really nice video, if i actually had a Corvette I'd feel quite comfortable following the steps 😁
I remember watching an old episode of wheeler dealers. They have a rebuild kits for the seat rails for the c5. I like your solution tho.
Well done

Really good vid. How about larger/stiffer sway bars??
Looking good
Hey I have an 85 C4 trying to swap my power seats that are cloth to the C5 leather power ones, how to I rewire them, the C4 drivers floor has 6 wires same as the C5 just trying to connect them
LFG Jake!!

Just about ready to sell it! 😂
I need to this to my c5
How did your back feel after auto-crossing??
They make a harness for this swap but your way is free
Upgrade the sway bars and tires and this should handle even better around that track/course
Yeah, the shocks are completely blown, it's sitting too high (GM recommends lowering it a half inch), and those NT555 G2s are some of the worst tires I've ever experienced.
@@100PercentJake can confirm. 555s are trash. Anyone who tells you they are good knows nothing about decent handling tires.
How is the sound system in the C5? Bose i assume with factory sub?
Horrible, like most sound systems in American cars at the time. Boomy, undefined bass and absolutely nothing else. Mids? Nah. Midbass? Not really. Treble? @@100PercentJake I know the feeling we have a Bose “premium” system in our GMC Acadia, terrible system terrible engine never buy one 😂
My c5 drivers handle broke off. This seems like a lot of work
Sssooo your saying that you can keep the C6 rails with the seats attached and all i have to do is wire in the C6 seat controller correct?
Yup!
@@100PercentJake awesome thank you! Keep up the amazing work!
nice swap
Upgrade rear lights/leds?
I swapped my drivers seat with a Corbeau Evo X a couple years back. Amazing upgrade for track use, if a bit of a downgrade for long highway jaunts (I just bring a camping pillow with me). But yeah the C5 seats and really the entire interior is the weakest aspect of this car.
Dark blue you mean purple
You need Sarah www.youtube.com/@SarahnTuned to do a proper seat bolste test of the C5 and C6 seats.
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
👍🏻
C5 seats aren't that bad
As a c6 owner I'm amazed that anyone would swap the c6 seats into anything. They are terrible.
Multiply that C6 seat by 10 and you'll have a C5 seat... and I have "Sport" seats to boot.
1
yeah,,,,c5,s are junk,,,,you should get ya a c6 and ill take your c5,,,ok???
Just purchased a 2001 c5 with 120k on it for $7500. Clean title. Slight damage to the drivers door, auto unfortunately, but ive already got a manual ready to be installed.
