17:00 I would use original float sensor through CAN to control the pump in the big tank and I would add off shelf universal fuel gauge with float to secondary tank for visibility. You could even make it just show some kind of red light to indicate "reserve" without actual gauge. Although I would probably change this whole setup to not use pump at all, and connect the tanks so that they work by the laws of fluid physics of conjoined tanks. There is also an option to disconnect original's tank fuel lines and plug the secondary tank into original fuel lines that go to the engine, but that leaves a big question what to do about the original tank? Also there is a lot of to be done with EVAP sensors.
I had a tornado touch down a couple streets over from my house in Parma (Cleveland) Ohio 2 days ago. Lost power for like 20 hours. Glad to see you got to enjoy by Native New England. I like the i3 but it's native gas tank was always too small. Glad to see Rich came up with a fix, kind of....
Congrats on surviving the trip! While it's not my hometown (10 miles south of there), I lived in Salem for a year back in the 80's. Great town for sure, if you can afford it. 1st East Coast trip and you put your hand in the Salem Harbor water....LOL I'm not brave enough for that. There is a reason everyone from the Boston area vacations somewhere else. Anyways, good with with Uncle Rich's old stuff. Impressed you got it there without a tow truck.
I love my i3 one of the best cars I’ve ever owned and a great intro to EV’s besides tires the car is well designed and great to drive wish they didn’t discontinue it. Great vid!
0600 Saturday-0300 Monday...60 something hours.... That's the math I do when I'm very tired as well. Excellent video!! I can't wait to see more of this little car. ❤
Welcome to the North East. I love Boston, second to NYC for me. Great to see a road trip with you and Tyler. Looking forward to future content on this BMW.
Man, this has the feel of videos that made your channel good from the start, but the production is off the charts here. The music pulling into gas stops sounds like BMW check engine bongs, which was playful misdirection. Also, I’ve been wanting an i3 for a few months and now I have to go search listings again
Love seeing you two on trips. The banter is great. What is not great is that fuel consumption. You are managing to equal the fuel consumption of my 1990 Volvo 240DL wagon. You are using my fuel than my 5.8 litre 89 Grand Marquis managed. You are using way more fuel than my 04 Toyota Corolla with automatic transmission. Forsooth, something is foul in the State of Denmark. Glad you got home safely. That wee Beemer is certainly stout hearted.
I really loved this episode not many people fly across the country then record driving it back and show all the issues… this was fantastic…. Legit street cars does this sometimes too way better than having the vehicle shipped on a trailer and makes for the unknown and great content… good job jake and grimes!!!!!!
Jake, on my way home from boston yesterday, nearby at a gas station a guy asked if my mom was the salem witch, and he proceeded to tell my mom that salem has good food stamps and how to claim our ebt in salem then we said we are from connecticut and he proceeded to tell us that they gangster down there and dont mess with them in ct fools BRO I CANT HANDLE THIS ANYMORE 😂
I have a 2021 i3s and wish it could road trip! I love this car, one of my favorites of all time! The S model does genuinely go fast with an upper sport mode. Feels more like a mini Cooper. Also wider tires front and back. BMW missed not revising this model as a sporty commuter and adding real range.
Damn Jake, these long videos are really good quality! I gotta say your editing skills have skyrocketed in fewq years.. :D Cheers from Finland, northern Europe!
Hey Jake...That was superb content, production way up, and an epic road trip well documented. We got Grimes, Rich and Robert and a fantastic lightning strike that arc'd right in front of you. Nice.;D
I've road tripped my 17 i3-rex a few times. Alternating dc-fast charging and the rex works well. Not the best car for trips but it works. Great weird car otherwise.
If I remember correctly the fast CCS receptible is its own control unit that can handle all the coms. It probably only needs a set of HV cables, CCS plug and a code in ista to make it CCS capable.
@@100PercentJake I didn't even realize they made models without DCFC. I have the 60Ah battery with DCFC and DCFC is somewhat useful with the stock battery. Most DC chargers are at gas stations, so I can fill up then DCFC for about 20min which takes the car from about 10 to 75%. That takes the useable range to over 100miles. "hold state of charge" until the 2 gal tank is empty then run on battery until below 20%. Road tripping with a stock i3 does require planning but can be done.
The infrastructure is lacking up around them parts and that's what took out my camper suspension, knocked tow mirror off of its gear, and causes all of those blown/tread loss tires. Tyler flooring it in anything is funny. Always nice seeing you guys just doing your thing!
Forgot to comment when I was watching. If you didn't like O'Hare I'm gonna guess you were in Terminal 5. That one does suck. The rest of the airport is why it's world class.
Back when I lived in Chicago in the 2000s, I used to fly out of Midway more often. It was quicker and easier for me to get there on the train from Uptown, on the north side.
Well I am surprised that without the air conditioner compressor your batteries didn't overheat. I believe BMW has a coolant circuit to keep the batteries cool also.
Based on absolutely nothing I think if i had this id try to figure out how long it takes to transfer one gallon of gas and just set the pump with a timer to just squirt 1 or 2 gallons in in automatically and stop when you need. So I knew I wouldn't HOPEFULLY overfill.
THAT was quality content. Thx Jake and Grimes
That was a fun trip. Nice to see Rich Rebuilds and Aging Wheels. Cheers!! 😎
Dude, I love your sense of humor. It's criminal that you don't have more subs.
Great to see another Jake video and such a cool car.
So nice of Xzibit, to give you this BMW
Racist old man… Sounds about right for Glosstah 😂
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

It was truly a 100% Jake adventure. Thanks for sharing the trip with us common folk. Enjoyed it.

Jake and Grimes are the best!
Loved this, can't wait to see it get AC and a more permanent fuel setup!

Salem is indeed awesome, but the ocean scene in this vid was in Gloucester.
I love my i3 one of the best cars I’ve ever owned and a great intro to EV’s besides tires the car is well designed and great to drive wish they didn’t discontinue it. Great vid!
killer trip! Rich & Robert have some of my most favorite EV content along with yours. Grimes is always a treat as well!
Very cool! Nice to see Robert show up as well :)
0600 Saturday-0300 Monday...60 something hours.... That's the math I do when I'm very tired as well.
Excellent video!! I can't wait to see more of this little car. ❤
All this amazement about the tire size. It’s the same as a VW Beetle. Millions sold world wide.
My boy Tyler ! you guys ROCK!
Welcome to the North East. I love Boston, second to NYC for me. Great to see a road trip with you and Tyler. Looking forward to future content on this BMW.
Simply brilliant! Three of YT favorites in the same video! One can't ask for more. =)

NFS Underground 2 is GOATED 🔥
Great video, thank you both.
That's some great vice grip garage type of repairs on that BMW.
Cool! Good to see Grimes again.
This had to be one of your best videos. You can always count on a video every two and half months 😅. But this one was well worth the wait.
grimes AND Robert Dunn , this is a crossover i didn't expect ...but i LIKE it

Jake is the best!
Holy shit, 40 minutes flew by, that was a good one!
Tyler should be a full time youtuber....
I’m a full time tech, I’m working on some content though!
After watching this, I now want an I3 with the rx. Damn you Jake LOL

Whoa, this is the collab I didn't know I needed. GAS.

Great stuff. Keep the videos coming.
Another great adventure. Keep them coming.

I noticed it in Hoovies last video, keep up the new content!
No state inspection in Indiana = many broken cars on the side of the road. Indiana resident here : )
Indiana has horrible roads=many broken cars on the side of the road. Also an Indiana resident
Plus on I65 during a snow storm there are many many cars in the center and right ditches. Is that because of the road, the drivers, or both?
Is the vent line to atmosphere? "Gallo 12 or 24" priceless
Great content Jake. Glad to see the grimes. Fun time
Very cool!
Grimes FTW
That car looks great, love the styling.
I've road tripped my 17 i3-rex a few times. Alternating dc-fast charging and the rex works well. Not the best car for trips but it works. Great weird car otherwise.
I wish I had DCFC :( not terribly useful with the tiny 60Ah battery though
If I remember correctly the fast CCS receptible is its own control unit that can handle all the coms. It probably only needs a set of HV cables, CCS plug and a code in ista to make it CCS capable.

This video had everything. Well done.

Wow. I drive to fast! lol 😂 85-90 with cruise on here in GA. Mkz hybrid owner here. Always been fascinated with the little eye three though.,
Great road trip, especially with Rich Rebuilds and Robert Dunn. 👍 There is not much of a chance of 155 tread width hydroplaning. 😂
a coworker had one...bought it two years old for 22K...he liked it. it did have pretty pricey tires. $1500/set...
Dank Pods Wade mentioned! also... Shrek colored lighting... I'm sensing a theme here!
It's cool to see the Kansas boys in my neck of the woods.
YESS!!!
More Jake 😊
8bit guy had his updated to be able to run the engine the whole time. Gives you better battery management.
Nice cameos, cool car. I want one... the car specifically, but I wouldn't mind meeting Rich or Robert, too.
Great video
Congratulations on getting the BMW I3
Cool, pizza slicers are actually better in order to prevent aqua planing. Great tour!
...here it came in ~ 30:00
Went smoothly, Randy from auto auction rebuilds hat to reset the computer several time due his i3 California trip. So congratulations.
LOOK ! It's GRIMES !
to go to next song, you can use the main menu between the seats by your right elbow.
yay Jake
You can get a windshield rock chip repair kit for $20 at any auto parts store. Easy to do yourself.
Forgot to comment when I was watching. If you didn't like O'Hare I'm gonna guess you were in Terminal 5. That one does suck. The rest of the airport is why it's world class.
Or if you needed to transfer from somewhere to a C-middle of nowhere gate.

The front at 36:39 reminds me of one of the pigs in Angry Birds.
Those buildings in the river are intake towers…
This I3 made an appearance in Hoovies latest video
I've seen it on Jake's Instagram story few weeks ago.
The two best features on a car, except for ac, is radar cruise and a heated steering wheel.
I need to do six degrees of Jake and see how many different UA-camrs I can get to.
Jake really is the linchpin
You need to be watching Ryan Hall Y'all.
Truuuuue
Well I am surprised that without the air conditioner compressor your batteries didn't overheat. I believe BMW has a coolant circuit to keep the batteries cool also.
Great video, I watched it on the toilet
RIP your legs
Long road trips are the best
At least you had working windshield wipers!
Rich is the man
the standard small tank doesn't even bother me, I'm ready for a break before it runs out normally
Rich looks like he has bulked up.😮
I KNEW you were going to overfill the tank.
🤣 the guy welding no ppe
Are the tanks properly venting
Trackmania is the best racing game.
Some many opportunities to film the next Twister movie missed.
Very interesting indeed.
Somehow I don’t think hiding right next to a bunch of gas pumps is the safest thing to do in a tornado. 😂
We were just aiming to stay out of the hail
You went to Boston and had pizza? 🍕
Have seafood 🦞 Lobster roll
Nice!
great video.
The skinny tire should’ve been good traction in the rain?
Pizza cutter wheels are good for not hydroplaning, just saying! =)
I would have thought you Wichita guys would laugh at those girly tornados they got in Missouri.

So when your drive train came on that from over filling the gas tank
DISCERNING,100PercentJake
👍
From Nick Ayivor from London England UK 🇬🇧 ⏰️ 16:36 Good Afternoon
Really enjoyed the video ;-)
You shouldn’t park under a bridge or overpass during a storm or tornado. It can actually be less safe for a bunch of different reasons.
glitch mob!!
What? Doesn't the battery cooling system use the AC system on these? DANGER!
Like you only get 1.9 gallons so it will fill in a flash, the fuel quality also upset the engine
