Scrubs up nicely! Looks great in the engine bay, those strut mounts are in top condition :) Look forward to it being Balmerfied! Good luck with the transmission. Al.
At this point a 4 speed auto for the 4dr may be hard to come by. Depending on availability a swap to a 5speed could be a viable option too. Parts are available and it seems to be the choice for many when they attempt to find a replacement or consider the costs of a rebuild. Hope you find a good 'cost effective' solution. I've got 257,000 Miles on my 1998 Sidekick Sport and it has the 4sp auto. I pulled a radiator line when i got it and replaced all the 'brown" fluid till it ran RED with Mercon IV. it shifts nicer and has been great. Too bad a fluid replacement won't help you. Good Luck with it.
Hi Banjoman, we've considered a swap to a manual trans - both of us would prefer a standard actually. I'm just concerned that there will be a ton of little issues with the swap (beyond having to swap the pedal set out). Maybe I'll ask my local group for advice on this swap as, like you pointed out, it's been done many times. Thanks for getting us thinking that way again :)
