    I have no idea why I've been watching this channel for the last couple of months. Off roading is not something I do or would be interested in doing but I do enjoy your content. Thanks for the entertainment and keep doing what you're doing because it's roughly eleven percent better than many other channels.

    Many years ago I had a 65 Chevy C/60 car hauler with a 348 big block. It had the exact same brake problem. After weeks of trying to resolve it I ran into an old timer who ran Chevy trucks. He clued me into the fact that the rod from the brake pedal to the master cylinder was adjustable. It was was threaded with a lock nut to adjust length. It took very small adjustments to solve the issue. My truck was stock. So when you had the same issue, my jaw dropped. Must be an old school Chevy C/60 thing. It was good to see Ed.

      I was thinking that push rod was too long, like perhaps it was the wrong rod, or perhaps it was to to do with how they designed and built the peddle assembly, but an adjustable rod would be the ideal way to take account of those variables. I just Googled 'chevy brake master cylinder push rod' hit the Images tab, and every one of them was adjustable.

      I made the same mistake on an International truck as an apprentice [here in Australia] never backed the rod back and the truck ended parked on the side of the road with the brakes locked on. [with a red face. guess who had to go and fix it]

    I worked in the spring industry, the one you removed is a Parabolic which gives you a softer ride & only works on those curved leaves the bottom one works when you have a heavy load, the multi leaf you are replacing them with are much stronger but the give a harder ride but do not drop as much when they have a load on, the less distance length wise between each leaf is much better

      Bikes are a great middle ground, don't let your pride get in the way, get a VERY comfortable seat until you're used to seat time too. Sore butts from people sitting on rocks is a quick way to dissuade newcomers otherwise lol 😅

    I believe you can adjust the master cylinder push rod, there should be 1/16th of an inch clearance between the push rod and the piston bore inside the master cylinder. I've used baring grease before to make sure the push rod had clearance and wasn't bottoming out. I just stuck a bit of grease on the piston bore and then stuck the master cylinder in place with just hand presser, if the push rod is too long it will push all the grease out and be metal to metal, but if it's adjusted correctly it will leave 1/16th of an inch of grease between the two.

    • @johnt.848
      @johnt.848 12 днів тому +8

      There's two rods, one from the brake pedal to the Booster and one in the Booster to the Master Cylinder, both usually have adjustment. The problem is usually the one in the Booster being too long and holding the piston in the Master Cylinder in slightly.

      Is it possible the lines are too small feeding to the Rears and it's causing a delay for the fluid to go back up? I remember my textbook talking about prop valves set up for rear drums causing problems when converting to rear disc as well, there was a restriction in them. I want to say the example car was a Camaro but high school was 20 years ago

    • @ColdRiverAutowire
      @ColdRiverAutowire 12 днів тому +2

      Correct, pedal is on the upper pedal stop and the pushrod is applying preload to the hydrobooster. That will cause brake creep in hydroboost systems as it never truly opens the hydraulic circuit back up. This can also happen when a hydrobooster fails internally, it’s not uncommon at all.

      In my 57 Chevy, I had trouble getting it set right. As just a quarter of a turn from just right to having drag making heat locking up the brakes. I used a thin cutoff to put a shot in it. That gave me a way to see how much it was turning and a way to hold it from turning to set the locking nut.

Put that on a caliper and they drag like mad.

    I realized that I have watched your kids grow by watching your show for so long.
    I recently met the "new" boyfriend of one of my granddaughters.
    I believe your daughter and her are around the same age.
    That is when I realized when your daughter starts dating I think I and some of the other viewers would like to have a little chat with any little young punk trying to court her.
    You have two things to worry about.
    Some young little punk trying to put his hands on her and your trucks.
    I have faith the brothers will not make courting her easy but you cannot be too safe.
    Thank you for your time and attention in addressing this issue.

    11:36 when you have an extension that long, the entire extension has to torque before it can transmit the force. That's why front wheel drive cars have a tendency to pull to one side on heavy acceleration, the short axle wraps up first and transmits power while the longer axle has to wrap further before it can transmit.

    • @blythkd9017
      @blythkd9017 12 днів тому +3

      Yeah, I think Jake learned something about impacts and extensions. Not only does the long extension absorb most of your impact, every additional tool you add in the stack (extensions, adapters, etc) also absorb force as well. Extensions and breaking tight stuff loose just doesn't go together. Of course, that nut on the spring bolt was TIGHT! Probably corroded too. That was a real test.

      Longer half-axle weights more and accelerating bigger mass needs more force. With open diff that leads to power being sent to the wheel with short half-axle.

    21 minute in I think I saw smoke? But yes new muffler will smell cooking off. You should hand push the spud truck to find where brakes are released. While it’s going to be an amazing rig. I still think a one ton, crew cab, long bed pickup. Swap reg cab, put a tandem kit in, roll bed. But extend frame to put it behind existing rear axle. Few I have seen are in front in 6x6. The ones behind I think were just rolling.
    I think with frame extension it could handle many smaller SUV to load, any side by side, plus be solid kenetic rope, winch recovery unit.

    Get Bondo Billy to fix that door. Tell the kids about loctite. Give it some heat before you break the socket. Truck looks great. She looks like a tail dragger. Better put some caster wheels under your tail. Stop at one of those airplane junkyards on your way to texas and scavenge some landing gear. Alright you got the 6X now you need a half track and a gamma goat. Thanks dude and I hope you feel better soon.

      That s exactly what I was thinking. If there’s loctite on the bolt ( which there probably was ) even if you do manage to break it loose it will fight you all the way off. A little heat and it breaks free normally.

    It was dads last truck and he just couldn't get in and out of it. So just sitting in the garage was hard on some things. I paid it off and put a new turbo on it fixed the rear end leak at the diff cover. Changed the batteries put some tires on it. Now if it would get more that 12mpg id be ecstatic.

    Jake - I recommend a product called KROIL penetrating oil. KROIL is what many professional shops use on rusted nuts, bolts, parts, etc. It is not instant however, ideal if you have time, soak the items in KROIL overnight either by soaking or spraying down a few times. I also light tap on the part if I can to set up a little vibration to help the KROIL penetrate. Just a suggestion.

      That if heat if in a hurry. Torch, not cutting heat. Maybe orange. Then try hot. If no go orange, water on threads if you can. Then cut nut off, replace. If it will not come with that force. It’s best to replace. But known jobs. Spraying w/penetrating oil, first steel bristle brush if needed. You will tell yourself to always do that.n

    There are different hydro-boost rod lengths. In some cases you do need a spacer. I tried 2 hydro-boosts on my dodge and finally just made a spacer. Worked fine after i built a spacer. Compared the shafts to the master cylinder they were the same. I think there is something inside the booster that caused the problem. I have put many boosters on and had no problem till i replaced mine.
