    Your very inspiring, I have been pondering for a year, now with my business (commercial beekeeper) I may be traveling from Michigan to North Florida very often in winter, flying would make it way more fun! Thinking cherokee 6, Saratoga is probably out of reach financially, great channel, thankyou!

    Raul, great advise! remember the aircraft AFM is the ultimate authority, it is the only "approved data" by the FAA. all other data on the aircraft is "accepted data" there for the AFM is trumps all other data. So if it is MPH you go with that, now a lot of newer systems and indicators today will show or convert between the the various units of measure. But it is best to go with what the AFM says, keep the video's coming and stay SAFE out there.

    I agree 1,000% ! My 69 180D is all in MPH. Even tho I / we installed duel G5’s, when had em put all the “tapes” in MPH. JUST FLY the numbers by the book (Poh) and everything works out. I did have one instruction say “ you need to fly by kts - not by MPH. I pulled out my POH from behind my seat and put it in his lap and said - show me where the speeds are in KTS. He didn’t have an answer - never flew with him again ! Granted he was a very low time CFI and he drank the kool-aid from one of the big “zero to hero” schools - but during the debrief I politely said - careful what you “require” from your students… ( this was a BFR ).

    • @FlyingDirty
      @FlyingDirty  Рік тому

      Hi Scott! You nailed it! When I got my Dynon installed they asked me the same. But since my POH and my memory had the numbers engraved in my brain I didn’t think it would be wise to reconstruct the POH. But I did tell them to put my backup in knots. I’ve had issues with CFIs also. When I was doing my instrument I had one try to tell me to do my approach with no flaps and land with no flaps. Again, that didn’t sit well with me and we parted ways. I land without flaps in certain situations but I can’t see making it my norm. No can do 😁. Excellent story Scott! Thanks for sharing 😀

    • @jcijr14
      @jcijr14 Рік тому

      @@FlyingDirty If he was insisting that you fly the approach with no flaps, then I understand dropping him. If he was encouraging you to try it, I agree with that. In my Dakota (heaviest PA-28 but lighter than your PA-32s), doing the approach trimmed for 100knots sans flaps works great, but to each his own. There is more than one right way to skin a cat.

    • @FlyingDirty
      @FlyingDirty  Рік тому

      @@jcijr14 I personally don’t see any reason to fly an instrument approach faster than normal other than the possibility to rush through it. In the Saratoga, for example, it would be extremely challenging to do an instrument approach descending and holding speed when it’s clean. It would be a hassle to try to slow down to gear speed. Flaps are essential to get your approach speeds to drop gear. He was trying to be too persuasive over something that didn’t appeal to me. So I had to drop him. I prefer to take my time and do it as professionally, disciplined and safe as possible. That’s my nature!

    • @FlyingDirty
      @FlyingDirty  Рік тому

      @@jcijr14 trying it is always understandable. But you’d think that after flying an airplane over a decade you could land it in many different ways. No, this was not about trying. He was insisting that’s the best way an instrument approach should be done. I think he came from another world where aerodynamics or commonsense have different expectations.

    I have no idea who would need to know mph ratings for a rocket? Maybe the Space Shuttle? I have found in my POH both MPH and KNOTS! If I remember correctly, the POH gave the approach speed as 76 MPH. I had thought it was knots for a long time. So, my landings were always a little too fast. When I converted to knots it was more like 66 knots. My airspeed indicator is in knots. Now, I use 70 knots on final, and 65 crossing the fence. Much better landings... So I think it's best know how to convert the two so your speeds are correct.

    • @FlyingDirty
      @FlyingDirty  Рік тому

      Hi buddy! Converting is how a mistake can be possible. If the POH and airspeed indicators are in MPH the legal way is to use the speeds approved by the FAA flight manual. If you have both then you could use both but just know which is which. Hope that makes sense!

      @FlyingDirty  Рік тому +1

      Hi Andrei, I may spend money on an airplane but since 1990 I’ve never been the type to spend too much money on accessories, such as, headsets. I’ve just got the cheapest 😀. No one can convince me to spend over 1k on a set of headsets. And they last! I still have and use, to this very day, the same old pair that I had in the late 1990’s and they still work and sound great. So no complaints on the headsets. Buuuuuuut, just recently, I began getting a little curious about the new A30 headsets. I could finally break 😳

What I was referring to was the biggest airport in Kentucky, 2nd in the US, and 4th biggest in the world in terms of cargo but I had edited that out of the video. Not sure why I left the biggest airport part but I should have also removed it. But thanks anyway. I’ll see if it isn’t too late to also take that clip out.
