Greatly enjoyed your video! I have heard the conversion to glass is around $40k, but you’re the first to have gone into great detail with multiple quotes. You picked up a subscriber! Thanks again!
Thanks Bruce and welcome! Thanks for watching and thanks for letting me know that you enjoyed the video. My main reason for sharing multiple quotes was to let people know to take their time and shop around. Had I gone with the first quote for everything I wanted I would have paid 20-25k by going with a different brand and/or a different shop.
Getting multiple quotes is always a great idea. What I liked about your video is you knew what you wanted and you had great sense as to which components were overpriced. Very well done! I expect to watch many of your videos over time.
Very nice ! I believe you are helping a lot of owners with their decision(s) on what equipment to buy as well as its placement. You have done a lot of homework that will save others the time and headache. Enjoying you channel, seeing your family outings & adventures. Scott KLZU.

Please keep me posted on your aviation success! Have a great New Year!
Just starting to prep to get my license... owning a plane is a bucket list item and the info here is really great to help set my expectations! Feels like I could buy a boat, beach house, or a plane for roughly the same amount. Money for reach and flexibility goes to the plane hands down!
Congratulations on your journey towards your license. I totally agree with you. Airplane ownership is pretty awesome and adventurous. Best wishes to you!
Thanks for posting this video. I watched it last night, and am now going back to it today for another watch after finding an interesting project cherokee.
My pleasure my brother! Great to hear that you started your training. This has been one of my most fascinating and rewarding experiences. I wish you the very best and keep pushing forward my brother. God bless you!
It's really hard to beat the price and quality of the Dynon products. I was watching the youtube channel "Glen's hangar" where he restored a 1961 Cessna 172 and replaced the old sixpack gauges with Dynon products and it looked to be a pretty straight forward install with great customer support.
I have done a lot of research on many products, including gps units, and Garmin is way overrated. It does not mount up in user experience and customization. The Dynon and IFD gps units going totally hybrid as opposed to 100% touchscreen is jut one example of how some of these other companies care about the customer experience. Garmin only seems to care about ripping people off 😀. I really don’t get how folks have been so brainwashed by them. On the other hand, compatibility goes to Garmin but they are trying to do away with legacy compatibility also.
Appreciate your direct and honest discussion of what it took to upgrade and maintain your plane. Also like that you are involving your family. Good Luck with your channel, looking forward to future videos
Most certainly Mike Stemig. I'm here to try to help our General Aviation community as much as I possibly can. I think life would be a bit dull and boring without my family so I do make a point to involve them in every aspect of my life. Actually, they are my life :-). Thanks for your wonderful words of inspiration Mike. May God bless you and keep you and your family safe!
Great video, and I hate to be "that guy" but you really should secure everything in the back of that airplane. One day you will hit mod/svr turb and all that lose stuff becomes flying projectiles....very dangerous stuff.
If you are being concerned about safety I would not consider you "that guy". You are just looking out for others and that's a beautiful thing. So everything heavy that's on the seats I put the seatbelt around and the bags in the rear are tied with luggage belts. But I did notice a first aid kit in the hat shelve that I should have taken down. Thanks for noticing and I'll be more vigilant regarding those lose objects!
Thank you Michael...I did the video because I had wished I had seen something like this when I was searching. So I hope to give others a general idea of true costs.
Very interesting video my friend thanks for sharing. Something I’ve always been interested in but must admit it’s some of the expensive unexpected costs that have put me off but found this really useful. All the best and fly safe, Paul
Hello Paul, It can most definitely get expensive really fast. But properly managed, it can be doable. It is also one of the best ways I have rewarded myself, my family, and friends. I thank you for watching and for your comment. One of the best things I enjoy making these videos is connecting with others. Take care and stay safe!
Back on my younger days, (1981-82) I flew a Cherokee 6/300 flying cancelled bank checks around. What a wonderful airplane, and superb payload. Probably that instrument upgrade gave you a few more pounds of payload. I noticed wind information when you showed the AOA. And also, noticed the different power quadrant, which is better than the typical Piper levers, as it frees up space to operate the electronics. Yeah, some of those quotes were just highway robbery. The engine instrumentation is awesome. Your Cherokee 6 is an older model since its missing the smaller 4th window after the doors, but looks awesome. Great job. Nice looking family.
Hi Mo, It's amazing that you can make a living by flying around cancelled bank checks. Who would have thought? But it sounds pretty cool! The payload did increase by around 30 lbs. And yes, that back door would have been great but the ones available at the time were not worth it. They were beat up pretty bad! Thanks and have a great day!
I just stumbled across your channel, as I am trying to do my research for joining the airplane ownership club. I have enjoyed watching your videos and am finding them very helpful. Thank you for sharing your journey and experiences.

Wow that panel looks awesome!!! Very informative video, buying a plane is something I keep coming back every so often and this particular time I started looking at the 32R so having an idea of what it would cost to upgrade one is a big help.
Ranger, you have no idea how long I had that buying thought in the back of my mind. It was like living inside a dream when it happened! If you do please let me know so I can congratulate you my friend!

I'm considering upgrading some of my panel. I have old steam gauges and need to replace my aging KNS80 and audio panel.. Not only do the dealers not have the products. Your looking at 6 months lead time to get it, and then another 6 months to get it installed. And if you use a Garmin dealer, expect to pay way more. I've looked into Dynon, but have a hard time figuring out what I need and how much it would cost. No dealers that I know of here in Tucson.
I also had a difficult time trying to find a knowledgeable Dynon dealer and that is why I decided to get it done in Florida. But speaking with many dealers and vendors, most dealers are experiencing similar backlogs. It is getting wild!
Awesome video good sir. I will be retiring in less than a year and plan to start my flight journey. I found this video to be beyond helpful. Thank you kindly. Brilliant! Cheers mates!!
Hey man! I see you’re flying from KRVS! This is where I did my private, instrument and commercial (working on CFI) out of! I’d love to meet up sometime and go flying or see your plane!
Good morning Marshall Thomas, I have not landed at KRVS yet but I do make your neighboring KTUL an often stop when I fly down to Florida and back. I wish you success with your CFI and hopefully we can meet up next time I stop in your area. Thanks for reaching out and let's stay in touch! Happy Holidays to you and your family!
Thanks Robert! I had several requests on cost from the last video so I figured I could help with having some idea of the cost factor. I hope you have a safe and cheerful New Year!
Awesome channel, I grew up at KAPA. My dad worked there for many years, I also worked there, and I had my first solo there. I didn't realize you had a youtube page. I'm sure I probably fueled your piper a couple times. lol Anyways, I enjoy the content and keep up the great work!!
Thanks Baxter....I'm hoping to break 1k at some point today God willing and thanks to you all. I have been totally energized, inspired, and motivated with the amount of love and support.
@@BaxterretxaB man, I need to catch up with the rest of the world. I don’t have an Instagram account set up yet my friend. Perhaps next time I fly to Florida I could do a NC stop.
@@FlyingDirty definitely do an NC stop. We can grab lunch and talk aviation. Can’t wait for more content. I just recently started uploading a few videos here but it’s really just for fun. Thinking of starting a real full time channel based around the airplane and flight instruction.
Thank you very much for that! I think they did a really nice job and I enjoy flying the airplane more (especially on long Xcountry flights with the A/P).
@@FlyingDirty I can imagine it does make it much simpler. It does remind me of the acrylic dash panels in the boating industry, Including the A/P function.
Excellent video, very informative. Seems like the autopilot is an excellent investment because it reduces task load and if you get into unexpected IMC, could be a lifesaver!
Ed, you have no idea LOL. That autopilot is a great to have. I don't get as fatigued as I used to before. Thanks the wonderful comments as always Ed! Have a great day!
Great information Raul. Again, i enjoy your videos very much. You do a great job of detailing your flights. I wrote earlier about the avionics upgrade. Right now my Cherokee is getting a new interior installed, so once i get Judy Cherokee back, i will think about the avionics. As much as i would love to have the Dynon system, i will most likely have to go an alternative method until the time i can fund the big upgrade. I am thinking about two uavionix av-30s for the time being. These will provide round gauge EFIS and will eliminate the vacuum pump. Keep up the good work!
Thanks again Bill, you and about three others was the reason for this video. It makes me feel really good that you all have been incredibly supporting. Where did you decide to get your interior? And trust me, I feel the pain! I wanted to get new avionics since around 2014 but I kept pushing it back. I'm glad I did because competition made everything more manageable with pricing and options. Such as options like what you are considering (uavionix av-30,s). Those are pretty sleek. I like flying IFR and that vacuum pump was a major concern for me. Take care my great friend and I always appreciate your interaction!
One question for you. If you were the holder of a A&P license yourself, do you think it would have changed your price dynamic or would you have spent the same cost on your upgrades? I ask since I just recently obtained my A&P and hope to be an owner/operator someday. Great breakdown btw. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks and you’re very welcome! That’s a very interesting question that made me think about it all. I think that in such case, I would have done the installation and probably added more being that I would have saved on labor.
I was looking up that info myself and found out if you have your IA certificate as well, you can help with the TBOs. I don't know if it's 100% true but I'll update in 3 years and let you know if it lowered the price.
I am a Cherokee 6 260 owner and have been searching high and low for a video like this. Awesome content. Thanks for sharing How long did it take for all the panel work to get done?
Thanks for those kind words Michael and I am glad this is what you were searching for. My goal is to help others as much as possible by sharing these experiences. I did the panel upgrade several years ago and I don't remember the exact time it took but it was not long at all. Since all the panels already come pre sized and ready to install I'd say it took us about a couple of days.
Thinking about doing a full upgrade on my PA28-180 since I know it flies well (been using it for training toward getting my PPL) and the market is pretty bare for a used plane with nice avionics and air conditioning. I'm in Texas and hopefully I can find a good shop to handle avionics, probably another place to restore the AC (was previously installed and removed many years ago), get an autopilot (currently there but inoperative) and then do a bunch of cosmetic stuff like some interior upgrades and a full repaint.
Hello Estrella! I hope you had a marvelous New Year. As always, thank you very much for all of your support. I am also looking forward to 2021 with more ideas to come. Thank you for always keeping in contact with me and may God bless you always!
Thanks for the great video. My wife and I have 3 kids, and it seems that a PA32 is the goal for me as well. Having done the restoration, are you happy having restored a plane vs buying a more expensive one with good avionics/paint/interior to begin with? The typical asking pricing for good condition PA32 seems to be in the upper 100's+ now, but there's a few in annual & flying examples out there with steam gauges & older engine/interior/paint that can be had for around $100K.
Hi Sam, I really haven’t crunched the current market prices for a Cherokee Six to give you an honest assessment. That being said, I am happy with my restoration. It’s really awesome to get an airplane and restore it the way I wanted it to be and to do what works for me. But I bought mine at a time where the economy was crippled and when GA took a big hit. So prices for a Six were much more affordable. But the PA 32 is perfect for a family of 5 and flying your family around is extremely convenient and rewarding. Let me know what you come up with. 😀
Totally off subject, but I saw that you linked "The Chosen" Kuddos to you, great series and looking forward to Season 2... Love the videos by the way..
Great Vid, lots of info here... thanks for sharing... looking forward new videos, Love flying the Rockies... Nice airplane and Family... Saludos desde Orlando...
I am new to flying. I like your down to earth style. All the different electronic components are confusing. Do you have a printout that lays out what the final numbers were? or perhaps a list that details all your equipment.
Thanks for the comment! I agree, these components can be confusing. When I recorded this video it was roughly 2 years ago and most of the quotes were done back and forth through emails. But the numbers from 2 years ago would have changed by now. So not to be unfair to vendors, the purpose of the video is to have a general idea of cost and to shop around for the best prices. Thanks!
Thank you very much! Yes, absolutely! Even other aircraft owners can immediately tell the difference as soon as I start up the engine. It would have been even better had I went with thicker windows but I remember them being significantly higher so I went with the thinner ones. Thanks for watching!
Hi buddy! Thanks again for stopping by. I’ve got plenty of USB ports. No need to over do it. I also personally like the original look and feel of the original ashtrays. Thank you my friend for always connecting with me.

Great info, thanks!
@@GrahamCompton-i4w My pleasure 😊
EXCELLENT VIDEO! And it's much appreciated!
You are very welcome!
Great Breakdown Raul. Nice job!
Thanks Robert! I had several requests on cost from the last video so I figured I could help with having some idea of the cost factor. I hope you have a safe and cheerful New Year!
Thank you for the info! very few give out numbers and honest feedback like this. subbed
My pleasure Jason and thank you for the feedback and for joining the community.
Awesome channel, I grew up at KAPA. My dad worked there for many years, I also worked there, and I had my first solo there. I didn't realize you had a youtube page. I'm sure I probably fueled your piper a couple times. lol Anyways, I enjoy the content and keep up the great work!!
That is awesome and thank you very much! Did you work from TacAir or Jet Center?
Thanks for giving the price of the panel upgrade!
You’re welcome Gregory. I’ll put out as much as possible to help out the community. Thanks again for your comment and support!
Great video. Thank you.
Thanks and you are very welcome! 😀
Your new paint job is gorgeous. Great video.
Let’s get you to 1000 subs to kick off the new year.
Thanks Baxter....I'm hoping to break 1k at some point today God willing and thanks to you all. I have been totally energized, inspired, and motivated with the amount of love and support.
@@FlyingDirty if you ever come to the east coast I’ll take you up in my 1969 piper arrow. Do you have Instagram? I’ll follow you there as well
@@BaxterretxaB man, I need to catch up with the rest of the world.
I’ll be trying Saint. Thanks for info.
Super valuable information Sir!
Thanks a lot!
Really digging the dash layout.
Thanks for doing this video
My Pleasure 😀
brilliant, much appreciate the breakdown!
Thank you very much and I hope it’s helpful my friend! Thanks for watching and your great comment. Take care and have a great day!
Had to sub!
Love the round air nozzle type vents!
Thank you very much and welcome to the channel my friend!
Awesome !! Great info on everything and you did an amazing job on your plane my brother.
Hi Kraig! I thank you very much and I am glad to hear your kind words. I hope you and your family had a great Holiday my friend!
Fantastic information! Thank you for sharing. This really helps out the community.
My pleasure Nick! Thanks for letting me know!
I think that in such case, I would have done the installation and probably added more being that I would have saved on labor.
lucky man. you will never regret that A&P. envious! I'm sure blood sweat and tears to get there.
I was looking up that info myself and found out if you have your IA certificate as well, you can help with the TBOs. I don't know if it's 100% true but I'll update in 3 years and let you know if it lowered the price.
Thank you for the video. This was awesome. Fly safe boss!!
Thanks a lot! Hope this helps with putting ideas together. Stay blessed!
Your best video yet. Thank you.
Thanks Curtis! I most certainly appreciate you!
Thanks for sharing
My pleasure 😊
I am a Cherokee 6 260 owner and have been searching high and low for a video like this. Awesome content. Thanks for sharing How long did it take for all the panel work to get done?
Thanks for those kind words Michael and I am glad this is what you were searching for. My goal is to help others as much as possible by sharing these experiences. I did the panel upgrade several years ago and I don't remember the exact time it took but it was not long at all. Since all the panels already come pre sized and ready to install I'd say it took us about a couple of days.
Great Video, thanks for the info. brother.
My pleasure Darrell! 😀
I just saw the PR flag! Great video!
Thank you Aurea! Happy New Year!
I thought you looked Puerto Rican, then saw the Puerto 🇵🇷.
Damn your Cherokee Six looks good my man, very good relation price/quality
Thank you very much Blassi!
Best wishes to you. Keep me posted on your progress!
awesome video!!
Thanks for the visit and the comment Johnny! 😀
Thank you for this, it really helped a newbie like me!
I am glad to hear that Cody! Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

Welcome to the channel rahman and thank you very much! It is a pleasure to greet individuals from all over the world! Have a great day :-).
This video was super awesome. Super detailed. Could you show a total cost of aircraft and upgrades?
Hi Philip and thank you so much for watching and commenting. The cost for the are all detailed on this video and the airplane was around 40k.
Such a huge favor to the community. Hugely informative. Thank you 🙏🏼
Thank you very much Sam and my pleasure to you!
Happy to see your content and that you gained more subs! Looking forward to your videos in 2021! Tailwinds!
Quality insight! Thank you!
You're very welcome! Thanks for letting me know! :-)

Thanks for the comment and for watching Vjuco! The Rockies are amazing! God bless you and have a great day!
Thanks for sharing. Very informative.
Hello Marco...Thanks for the comment and I'm glad to help as much as I can. I certainly know how challenging this process is. Have a great day!
Thanks!
Excellent and concise assessment of your cost and panel
Thank you very much Hans! Please drop in as often as you like! I really enjoy the amazing interaction with all of you!
Great vid!! Did you noticd a big difference in cabin sound with the new panel insulation you added?
Thank you very much! Yes, absolutely! Even other aircraft owners can immediately tell the difference as soon as I start up the engine. It would have been even better had I went with thicker windows but I remember them being significantly higher so I went with the thinner ones. Thanks for watching!
Had to watch again. Great stuff here!
Imho, would be great if one could put USB ports in place of ashtrays.
3 blade increases ramp appeal too, imho.
Hi buddy! Thanks again for stopping by. I’ve got plenty of USB ports. No need to over do it. I also personally like the original look and feel of the original ashtrays. Thank you my friend for always connecting with me.

Hi Carlos! Thank you very much my friend!
Love aviation but haven't flown in quite a while. With costs where they are I think I will be going back to what I did as a kid Airfix models
Hi Harry, one thing is certain. Costs have gone up a lot. Thankfully, there are also multiple ways to take advantage of expensing costs. Thanks for reaching out and I wish you the very best 😀
