    I ran into this very problem and the issue is that the game does not direct you to the private lab. I think there was a bug earlier where you couldn't gain the objective on the moon map. Basically the private lab is POI on the moon you can "buy" one of the sciences for a time. it's very expensive but it serves as a stop gap measure for when you run out of your stipend from earth.
    Also it is pretty much consensus that saving the colonists is the Hardmode of the game since it requires a lot of tech that needs social points and its the first thing you run out of.

    one control tip I can give for the rover is when you click the rover you can right click elsewhere on the map and just click the move option that pops up at your cursor makes it a lot easier, you can also do it for expeditions or investigations, just click the truck or rover right click the destination investigation or expedition and click investigate or start expedition. makes it a lot easier and quicker when assigning them tasks. later on when you get surface scanning on the rover you can just select him right click a location and click dispatch to scan and he'll just move there and start scanning. helps cut down on the micro management.
    As for the story mode going crust or contracts, it really is just a difficulty setting. You get to the same point eventually but it is possible to complete just a more difficult path that requires building in a more time constrained way. It's just a matter of do you want a more relaxed stress free play experience or not and it is helpful with introducing you to the colonist mechanics as a kind of tutorial. You get the colonists earlier but it doesn't really matter they are very temporary with the way the system is now and how unfinished and WIP it is they will all bug out and die before too long without you being able to do much about it. Later on you can get more tech that will make it easier to support more colonists for longer periods of time but even then they will still bug out and die on you.
    they'll refuse to eat, or get stuck in place and not be able to do anything until they just starve and die, they wont heal themselves with med kits, if you aren't careful and place buildings they work on inside rooms like the components factory they'll run out and work them and take a lot of health damage being away from oxygen for too long and die that way sooner too. You have to think of them as temporary and do what you can to increase their stay duration but you can only do so much.
    But yeah it's like do you want to delay contracts and get them all going at a later gradually unlocked pace or just have it all from the start its up to you. Honestly I'd probably just recommend sandbox the most because the main story is in the games current state i'm pretty sure not doable because of the sheer quantity of high tech items you need to produce and the colonists just not working very well at the moment makes it pretty much impossible to make enough of them in time. in sandbox you don't gotta worry about it and can build expand and design your base at your own pace with no time constraints beyond filling contracts you've accepted and with everything unlocked from the start aside from tech allowing you to skip the story progression aspect of unlocking them.

    It's usually possible to place 2 Regolith Extractors on a single resource node. Just has to cover 9 blocks. This way you could double your production in many cases.

      I commented that yesterday. Since then I restarted my playthrough and realized it is not always possible. I could not do that on any nodes during my second playthrough, but I have much more nodes around. I think they randomly spawn and sometimes spawn in double-node. Strange

    15:00 Still ahven't watched the rest. But the impresion i get is that while building walls inside, the rooms don't count as rooms, so the power is disconected everywhere. That second power plug thing might not be needed.
    Also, this mode is suposed to be a hard mode. So it makes sense that the contracts are locked. That's the point.

    • @Saurlok
      @Saurlok Місяць тому +2

      That is correct, the new walls replace the floor, which connects the entire room to the power grid. Any room that is not complete will not get power.

    11:30 that is definitely a copy of stock market (and similar) graphs. They NEVER show value change with base of the chart at 0, it makes for far more dramatic visuals when someone company share value makes a nosedive but when you look into it they lost 0.5% of hypothetical value.

    There's no power because the room is incomplete because you built new walls. Just wait for it to finish building.
    There's no point in researching all of those tender researchers when you have no contract system!
    The graph should maybe have the base labelled, but zeroing it would make no sense when some items costs thousands and only fluctuate in price by tens.

    Though I agree the graph needs labels on the Y-axis.
    It wouldn't make sense to have the Y-axis go down to 0 because then the difference between the max and min price would be so small as to be invisible on the graph. Especially for the larger values.

    • @memory_stick
      @memory_stick Місяць тому

      Then put a scale on the axis. Heck, just actually give axes. The x could mean anything as well (although it probably encodes the time). It's just bad design as he rightfully said only marketing would put up. If it is a graph it damn well has axis with units and a scale. Else it's just a pretty picture with no information

    11:30 Okay, slow your roll there, chief. Using a baseline is common practice in Market charts when the fluctuations in price are small compared to the overall price. The mistake here was not marking the values on the left (the baseline value looks like it would be about 39 on your Smart Concrete chart) ... but anyone hovering over the "low" price bar should immediately understand what is happening.

  • @Latronibus
    @Latronibus Місяць тому +5

    The situation with setting up your starter quarters is just bafflingly bad design. You get zero indication of how much space you're going to need for all this stuff to make valid living quarters. I generally like the early pressure but it should definitely come with a reasonable amount of knowledge of what's to come. Sure you couldn't know in advance that the space station was going to de-orbit, but once you knew that, you could have known what a living quarters would require if you were going to build one. Admittedly this is "hard mode", but this is pretty ridiculous. And it's on top of the green science softlock that you are more prone to in this route (though it is not as bad if you get access to the paid lab, but I think your save is old enough that it is afflicted with the bug that makes the paid lab not spawn).
    Out of curiosity, are you just doing the two runs (the one on Twitch and this one) or are you also poking around off-camera to learn things? It seems like learning in a live run would be very frustrating in this game. Based on the ending, I guess you are not doing much poking around off-camera.

    • @SirusDiarota
      @SirusDiarota Місяць тому +1

      "You didn't know it was going to deorbit!"
      Erm... It's in the prologue, and the decision to help the station or focus on contracts is what you choose afterwards.
      Focusing on contracts does nudge you towards living quarters, though it's more for staff looking into the astroid/explosion rather than saving the staff. There is an option to send materials to aid the station, but that's about it.

    • @Latronibus
      @Latronibus Місяць тому +1

      @@SirusDiarota It's true, that is basically your first meaningful decision. I'm saying, even if it weren't, you (your player character) would know what living quarters for the station refugees would require as soon as the deorbiting process started. Or at worst, your advisors would. Narrative games bother me when the player character knows things that the player doesn't.

    This game need a LOT of improvements to become very good...I think I will like it a lot, in time...but today is a mess.
    My biggest issue (besides all the problems other have talked about here and in the comments on Steam) is the absolute stupidity of the little drones...especially when you have excavated a lot and your underground base becomes larger and more complex, with a lot of machines...
    If you observe them going around, they are litterally doing the different tasks in the most inefficient way possible...the excavators are terrible, picking blocks at random and wasting a lot of time moving around doing nothing...the different priorities of various tasks that have to be done in parallel are completely messed up and tryng to force them manually doesnt help at all...they dont even go to recharge correctly and keep moving around at 0.2x speed while you are screaming at the screen "GO TO FKG RECHARGE!!" :DDDD
    I think I will pause for some months and get back after a lot of major patches, hoping for an improved AI and a lot of balancing...

    Enjoying this series. That said I hope the devs look at comments for this. This game should absolutely be my *jam*. It's very much like my favourite game (factorio) and the story elements seem cool. That said, at the moment there is no way I'm buying it. 1)If a game keeps talking to me I walk away. I hate all the constant voice lines - it just stresses me out 2)The sound design and music is completely horrible. I would literally have to play this on mute to make it even slightly bearable. There is too much noise when mousing over / clicking etc. There needs to be about a 90% reduction in the little sound effects. The music being awful is a real shame but I can always just turn that off. 3) The graph thing. *shakes head*. Just .... I'm speechless. Label your goddam axes and fix the scaling. At present the graph is strictly worse than no graph.
