Not sure if I can remember Murray's voice ever going that high! Poor Mansell.. completely dominant the entire weekend. Very happy to see Modena do well too. Good times!
Not the entire weekend darling. Patrese outqualified Mansell on the first seven races including 3 poles in-a-row one of wich was here in Canada. Throughout the year 1991 Patrese outqualified Mansell 10 to 6 with 4 poles against only 2 poles from Mansell.
he only dominated the race because patrese had a neck injury when his car broke and crashed in the morning warm up however, when you wave to crowd too early and stall the car - especially in a semi automatic - you only have yourself to blame :)
Mansell allowed the revs to drop to too low a level, charging the generator was not enough for hydraulics and electronics to work, so the car stopped working...Mansell had to greet his fans after the finish.
Rule number one in F1. Don’t wave to the fans on the last lap of a race until you cross the finish line. By waving to the fans on the last lap Mansell allowed the revs to get too low and that allowed the car to slow to a holt. That’s according to the Bring Back V10s podcast about this particular race.
Senna didn't made such a mistake in Brazil 91, finishing with a dead gearbox in 6th speed for 10 laps, nearly stalling his engine anytime. See the difference there. Like always, Piquet bragged at Nigel misfortune...
What an stupid comparision!!! Mansell's gearbox was semiautomatic and he made a mistake by not changing his gears down while he was taking that slow corner. He didn't switched gears down because he was using his hand for waving to the crowd on that corner. He took the corner maybe in 4th or 5th gear. And because of that his revs went down. And because of that the electronics mistakingly switched the engine to dead. It was as simple as that. To compare Senna with Mansell is like comparing a Ferrari with a Volkswagen.
Because everyone from 7th place down had been lapped when the flag waved, so therefore they couldn't complete another lap to un-lap themselves and finish ahead of him.
because in f1 you do not have to complete the last lap to be classified in some forms of motorsport you do, so cannot be classified if you do not cross the finish line within a certain amount of time of the winner and at a certain speed, but that is not the case in f1
Mansell was always showing off to the camera and the crowd. He got paid by his sponsors to get himself on the TV cameras as much as possible and often he would often stage dramatic events such as rants at his mechanics, moaning and do other stupid things to get the attention of the TV cameras. Waving at the crowd whilst changing gears was just another mansell doing some stupid instead of winning the race.
Sad as I'm sure it was for his fans I had to have a bit of a laugh, if nothing more than because during lockdown I've been watching races from 1985 onwards and Murray's favouritism for Nigel is both constant and infuriating. As good a commentator as Murray is, his bias for anything relating to Mansell is insufferable, to the extent you can hear him celebrating in the background when he takes the lead in some races.
Because everyone was always queuing up to have a go at Mansell including the teams he drove for. In a sport of millionairs, a man from humble origins who had to fight his way to the top just didn't fit in
@@aydankhaliq2967 for all of you who think that he made a mistake , please read this from his book "staying alive" page 181 :" The Canadian GP brought me some vitriol from certain critics, who accused me of switching off my engine when in the lead. Pavel nope brain problems. mansell started celebrating too early, let the revs dropntoo low and stalled
Kane Knightwolf he actually apparently hit the engine cut button when waving
Alex Cochrane either way, celebrating premeturely was the main cause. i can only go by what ive heard
He slowed engine down, so power supply ended and electronics was switched off.
