13:35 - you roll the die again to determine movement after already having rolled it to determine meeple selection. Perhaps the rules are different in the ultra tiny version, but in tiny epic kingdoms (p10) it says: When the dummy player selects an option, use the SAME number on their war die to determine any region selection, meeple selection, or movement required by that action.
Ah...you are right. It definitely clearly says you only use the one number for everything. So you always use that first and anything that is invalid you simply move around the compass. Ok. In my rules when it mentions Selecting an Army and then moving an army it mentions rolling the die which makes it sound like separate rolls from the first. I'll need to update my reference sheet. Thanks for calling that out!
@@ShaneandStuff Hey Shane - Great content and information - but not too keen on cut scenes. Downloaded your reference sheet - excellent. So what Simon said - to confirm - If you rolled a 4 for your Action and you got Patrol, you would use that 4 to direct the compass' virtual hand towards the region that has an available meeple to be Patrolled. Then you would use that 4 again to direct the compass' virtual hand to move the meeple? What about if the dummy player follows you in Patrolling? The rulebook says, "...roll their dice once and use that number for their resolution." So you would use that number twice - once for the meeple location and then once for the meeple movement? Seems weird instead of just rolling for each section. Thanks for your time. Cheers
@@LearnToPlaythrough Yes the rules do say to use the same number. But it really doesn't matter either way it's random. It's just a lot less rolling if you only use 1 number. I'm not sure what you mean buy cut scenes. I do try to edit my videos so there aren't long pauses, and when I might make mistakes or have to repeat myself so sometimes there are some jumpy cuts but the other problem on these older videos of mine is my camera would try to autofocus way too much making the screen move back and forth undesirably. That doesn't happen on my latest videos. At any rate, thank you for watching, for the feedback, and I'm glad you found it useful!
This is a great video - thanks for this!! Also, you are by far WAY easier to listen to than any other gameplay videos I've seen. I wish your channel was as big as the main review/playthrough channels for games. The only other channel that comes close would be Watch It Played with Rodney Smith. That background music was also a good touch. I really hope your channel grows!
Thank you so much. I would love for my channel to grow. It's been getting some good traffic and consistent new subscribers. Fitting my videos in with a full time job and family is hard but I will keep doing as much as I can. I usually try to fill in something that's missing. As in this video there wasn't an actual solo tutorial for this. There were reviews but nothing to teach it. So this video has gotten so much traffic because it's the only one! Some games I've thought of doing a how to play I've found a really good one and skipped it. But I agree with you there are many videos out there I found hard to watch for various reasons. Either too much beating around the bush, not enough info, just a generally unenthusiastic voice etc. So I was hoping my channel would provide what you said. Rodney is so good and I glean a lot from his videos but sometimes they are so "matter of fact" that sometimes it can start to drone on a little bit. But they are fantastic and not lacking in anything. I also enjoy the Rules girl and stikfamations. Thanks again for the complement and encouragement!!
You're welcome! Yeah there have been a ton of videos that have helped me learn games over the years. Like you said, there weren't any other solo playthroughs for this, so whenever that happens I end up clicking on a small channel and hoping for the best. lol This definitely helped - thanks again for taking time out of your day to make it!
Awesome tutorial! I was going back and forth with your video and the instructions but I think I got it. It's just gonna take a few games to get it. But it's a lot more fun than what I thought! Thanks for being the thorough!
You're welcome I glad you found it useful. When I made it it was the only solo tutorial video for this. Might still be. I'm working on more there's just a lot of other priorities in my life right now. Coming in the next few days though I should have my Dark Tower Solo playthrough!
Only the deluxe version came with the die so unfortunately you either have to supply your own die usually or use a random number generator on your phone or something.
Questing can be done from any region touching a border, to any region touching a border. So no one can quest into or out of the center plains of Lofrekija, but the other forests, ruins, and mountains in Lofrejika can be quested into or out of. Think of questing more like hopping or transporting, it is not straight line movement like patroling. Let me know if this explanation clarified for you :)
Dummy player...ha ha. More commonly known as the AI. I hope, for the sake of challenge, he/she is not a dummy. :) Thanks for the review. Set up looked excellent and allowed me to really see the difference between ultra tiny and tiny. Still on the fence as to which to get. I would need the expansion for the tiny version as I only play solo. I know the compass card is needed for solo. I'm wondering if I could just print that from the PNP version and save $55 (TEK plus Hero's Call).
Dummy Player is actually how they refer to it in the rules, but I get what you're saying. I'm totally happy with UTEK and of course it's much easier on the wallet but you get some cooler looking wood bits and possibly a little more with the regular. I forget what all the differences are. I believe you will miss out on some of the factions and locations if only buying regular TEK and printing the compass card. I say go for UTEK and if you absolutely love it and want the bigger version with better meeples, you can always upgrade one day and have it all!!
@@ShaneandStuff Upgrade, great idea. Thanks. This helped me make my decision. I'll go with the Ultra Tiny and see if I like it. Thanks again! (I can't believe they call they're AI a dummy, though. Seems counterintuitive. :) :) :)'
Well, in the slang yes however in this case the use of dummy is it's original and technical meaning which is a replica of a human being, or something designed to resemble or replace. Like a manequin. The dummy player is the replica human player. :) I'm glad I could help I have not desired to get the non-ultra-tiny but I've only played a couple times and not with people. The only reason I would get the regular would be to have it larger and with some nicer components.
The compass card and a d12 are the only things required to play solo. I think they even have a webpage with a virtual die. But if you are talking about buying UTEK to use the compass card with TEK, you might as well buy the TEK expansion "Heroes' Call" which has the bigger compass card so it will fit it better and it gives you more locations and races to play with. All the extra races and locations are included in UTEK but there are a couple things you would get in Heroes' Call you don't get in UTEK.
@@ShaneandStuff Yes but... TEK $35 + Heroes Call $35 = $70. Not so tiny anymore. :) I wish Gamlin Games would just sell the compass card as an extra to throw into TEK.
@@stacie_everdell Oh ok I did confirm here that you would be missing some stuff not getting both TEK and Heroe's call. If you're main thing is solo, I would definitely recommend just getting UTEK. You can always upgrade later if it becomes one of your favorites.

Yeah any d12 will do which most people have or cost very little and there are phone apps or even webpages that can work too.
