I was there. the greatest single musical moment in the history of humanity. and yes, was the encore of Santana's show. and most of those guys were at the village gate the day or 2 before and if you were lucky enough to be at both shows you can't really complain about anything else that happened in your life since. ¡Simplemente maravillosa!

This is actually the encore of Santana's show at Pier 84 that night with his Zebop band. The song title is American Gypsy (which appears on the band's 1981 Zebop album) and joining Santana's cast - which included at the time heavy hitters like Armando Peraza, Orestes Vilató, Raúl Rekow, Graham Lear, Alex Litgerwood and bassist David Margen - was part of the New York elite of Latin Music: Tito Puente, Eddie Palmieri, Dave Valentín, Nicky Marrero, Jerry González, Andy González, Eddie Montalvo, Papo Vázquez and Rubén Blades.

I was there on that magical night. A fantastic performance by Santana and his band. The All-Star jam at the end was quite a thrill. I feel very lucky to has witnessed it first hand. Awesome to see this here on youtube. Thank you!

El solo de flauta de Dave Valentín y el de Jerry González en trompeta con sordina están brutalísimos!!! Sin restarle todos los otros músicos. Tito Puente es un monstruo en los timbales!!!

It feels as if the call went out to these luminaries and the call was enthusiastically answered. You could feel the joy and support they had for each other. All shining stars!
So strange as I was viewing this a passing car was blasting Santana's version of Oye Como Va.

Desde la mítica Descsrga Fania en el Cheetah de Nueva York en 1973 no se conocía una reunión con tanto Genio en una tarima…. Extraordinaria Jam Session, como se dice por aquí PURO MONSTRUO. Es irrepetible, hoy no existen músicos de este tamaño.
No paro de ver varias veces este video, excelente junte de "caballos" , ojalá alguien pueda pasar el link del cocierto completo. Sabroso!

En la mayoría de los comentarios,se mencionan los nombres de Tito Puente,Eddie Palmieri,Orestes Vilato,Nikky Marrero,Santana y Andy González.Pero no mencionan a Dave Valentín,quien toca la flauta y quien hasta su muerte fue considerado el mejor flautista del mundo.Otro a quien no mencionan es a Jerry González,quien toca la trompeta y es hermano del bajista Andy González.Jerry fue el fundador de la mítica FORT APACHE BAND.Está en UA-cam.Búsquenlo y a gozar.

La gente que se cre mas que los demás y ofende y juzga mal al otro, nunca se vera en la cúspide, quien es chepito Arias hoy en día, nadie lo conoce, en cambio Santana, quien no lo conoce 50 años de éxito y se mantiene todavía en la palestra musical mundial.
Chepito es un gran músico y creo que pudo estar a la par de estos genios pero su soberbia no lo dejo crecer en cambio Santana siempre se ha mantenido humilde en opinion por eso ha perdurado en el paso del tiempo hasta convertirse en una leyenda de la música latina

I was at this show, went to a Santana concert and this happen.. been to hundreds of concerts since. This is still one of my all time favorites!! Have not seen since it happened! Thanks for posting! . Is there any more footage of this show available anywhere? I’ve searched, would love to see Europa from that day, he played it at sunset and it was amazing.. if I remember correctly it was right before Tito came out..
