There are so many approaches possible within the Fuji system. Coming from Canon, I am still getting used to it after more than a year. But I start to increasingly appreciate it
This is such a fun channel for fujifilm users, just loving it. It also motivates me to grab my camera and shoot the world around me , thanks again for all your effort.
This setting does effectively disable focus priority though. In the manual Fuji states a shot will be taken whether or not focus is acquired. This is obvious for manual focus, but not so desirable for when using the AF. You can have the same benefits of AF+MF without the disadvantages, by setting a button to BBF in M mode - for me the AEL button on the x-t5. So in M mode I still have AF available on demand, and should I wish to MF I just grab the focus dial to fine tune. Great for macro with an AF lens. Then if I want AF with focus priority, simply switch to AF-S.
@@brownbear100 I came to say this. True and it's a good way to separate both AFS and M, but it's in AFC on moving subject that focus priority really matters, I found in practice on static subject AFS + af/mf can be valid. Everyone shoots differently, people should experiment and see what suit them most.
@@Kliffot I have AF-C also set to release priority for the camera set-up I have saved in the app for sports and wildlife. And you can also use BBF for AF-C the way I described - I just don't particularly like the ergonomics of holding down a small button with my thumb, it's uncomfortable and I usually an using it to adjust other things! Luckily Fuji gives us all various ways of doing the same thing to suit our own preferences.
It's really funny because I didn't know this existed and couple of times I've accidentally pressed in and thought what have I done? What have I done to my camera? Thank you Paltech once again for being amazing with coming up a little videos that are actually helpful. I prefer these little short four minute videos. I know the algorithm with UA-cam requires you to do a 10 minute video to keep the subscription stuff and the algorithm are high but honestly these four minute videos are way to go for a lot of people quick smart and we get the information we need.
Thanks for this! My X-T1 does not have the dial press, but it does still zoom in one extra click in focus assist mode. I had no idea! As someone who uses a lot of manual and vintage lenses, this is a great tip!
Always wondered what the double tap meant thanks! The single + manual adjustment focus trick is what i've been looking for this whole time since i'm not always in manual mode ❤
Super helpful video Chris, thank you. Just started using manual lenses (Voigtlander) and they are amazing. A video on using manual lenses, old school, hyperfocal distance etc would be great.
Man... we really need Manual Focus to keep Subject Detection enabled, thus allowing users to punch in zoom straight to the face/eye (like the Nikon ZF does). We have some great manual focus lenses now for X Mount (especially premium Voigtlander range), Fuji owe it to them and their users to make this experience as efficient as possible.
Didn't know about the half shutter press in combination with S-focus mode that it would be possible to manually focus. Thanks, learned something today :)
With winter coming and big heavy gloves, i think i will be using this feature using a stylus so i can check focus outside on a tripod without taking my gloves off
Didn’t know about the rotate to punch in more and more! I’ve been more likely to be surprised when trying to punch in and perhaps holding the back dial in too long because it starts cycling through the various focus assist options!
Hey Chris, would you mind making an educational video explaining “lens compression”. Your videos are always super helpful. Just trying to wrap my brain around it. :-)
Just to mention that these tricks will work for stills. For videos, the Zoom and double zoom will work only in M/ Manual Mode. In S/ Single Auto-focus Mode, there is no Single Point.
Hi there, I can’t understand anyone using the touchscreen I never have on my Fuji cameras. If I wanted to use a touchscreen, I’d use a phone .I found that I was touching it by mistake and therefore changing settings I find your videos very useful thanks for that.
Hello, Pal. I'm new to the world of cameras. My mother had a store in the '90s called La Fuji, a professional photography studio. The store closed in the 2000s, and she distanced herself from photography when I was born. Now that I'm older, one day I was cleaning an old room in my house, and I found many of her photography books. I'd like to buy my first Fuji camera to start learning about this beautiful world of photography, using her books to teach me, with her as my teacher. I study architecture and really enjoy photographing buildings, landscapes, and animals. I'm thinking of gifting her a camera for Christmas to encourage her to reconnect with photography. I'd greatly appreciate your recommendation for a Fuji camera. My budget is a maximum of $2,000 for my first camera.
What a lovely story! You couldn’t have found a better channel to learn from - I think he’d say Fuji XT-30 :) In your budget you can find two and shoot with your Mom, no better way for her to reconnect with photography than to shoot with you!
Still learning my XT5 after switching from Canon - do you have a list of videos or some downloadable help for things like settings for wildlife focus and how to actually access... how to change your focus point quickly and easily (and confirm it) etc etc. THANKS SO MUCH!!
Thank you for this information! I tried with my fuji XT5 in single focus, single point : it does nothing when I pressed the rear command dial ? Another setting that I should change in my camera ? It works well in manual focus. Thank you!
Like one of the earlier comments, the zoom function when the dial is pressed on single focus mode doesn't activate the zoom function. But it works on the manual focus. Is there an extra step that needs to be done for this to work?
Hi from France ...How to do when the rear command dial is assigned to the focus (BBF)? Is the only possibility is double tapping? Thanks a lot Chris for all your work !
Regarding the last point made in this video: Instead of keeping shutter release button half-pressed with the s setting, can you then press focus lock and recompose before taking the shot?
cool tip and thanks. and OMG how many more days or hours do you think we have to wait before Novembers AF improvement firmware update? I check with your youtube channel every morning for my XH2s, :) And the over all internet. I wish Fuji would hurry up!
On my X-T4 in Single spot autofocus, zoomed-in as you describe, with the shutter button half-pressed, I cannot adjust focus. Is there another setting I should check?
I had not watched your channel for long times now after i had been frauded $457 by some miscreants who had planted reply in your channel for a comment i had posted. This happened back in 2022 when i had joined a membership in your channel. Anyway great video as always.
Interesting information I'm a bit disappointed have a Hx2 but never use the next one. Since I bought the Osmo pocket 3. Thought I would switch to a fujifilm x-m5.But it only has 4k/30? Having 3 mics is not something good about today, most action cameras have 3 mics???
Hello Chris, I have one question on this topic, but on the brand new X-M5. It seems that when in MF mode, when I turn the lens focus ring (focus check activated) the LCD shows the zoomed area for better accuracy. But when I press the shutter halfway, nothing happens (we do not come back to the normal view but the zoomed view is still displayed). My other Fuji cameras (X-T3 and 5) do not behave this way. Did you notice this as well? Thanks in advance.
Very useful video! Thank you Chris! ❤ I knew about the focus "zoom" adjustment in M mode, but did not know about the S mode. However, I do not really see the point of ajusting manually when we are in S mode, when we can simply just set the camera in M mode and focus fully manually without keeping the shutter half pressed. Many of us are having issues with the X-T5 focus. I wonder if you have noticed a dicrease in IQ with some lenses following the last fw update. I have noticed that with my Fuji 16-80mm and the Viltrox 13mm. Many images look less sharp, show an increased noise or look like nothing is reallly on focus. I wonder if you have noticed that too. Thanks a lot again for your precious advice!
One of the most useful videos on Fuji. Thanks.
Thanks!
Chris you are a master at "Chris Splaining" Fuji's camera and lens secrets. Thanks for all your hard work and fun videos.
Thanks once again Chris. Great little tutorial.
Both helpful.........and entertaining!
There are so many approaches possible within the Fuji system. Coming from Canon, I am still getting used to it after more than a year. But I start to increasingly appreciate it
I learn something so often from watching you Chris I’m so pleased you dig around in this stuff so I don't have to.
SEI VERAMENTE GRANDE Mr CHRIS. UN GRAZIE PER I TUOI TUTORIAL E UN SALUTO DA NAPOLI 👍👍👍
This is such a fun channel for fujifilm users, just loving it. It also motivates me to grab my camera and shoot the world around me , thanks again for all your effort.
Wow! who would have thought you'd still be able to find new features in the XT4 for us to use! Thank you for this!
Excellent info, especially the manual focus trick (overriding auto-focus) at the end. Thank you!!
Just by the way for using this with AF-S, AF+MF needs to be enabled if you want manual focus override during shutter half-press
This setting does effectively disable focus priority though. In the manual Fuji states a shot will be taken whether or not focus is acquired. This is obvious for manual focus, but not so desirable for when using the AF.

Well Dang! I've been shooting with my xpro2 for a few years now and never knew this trick. Thanks Pal2Tech!
That is a new one. Thanks, Chris. Great tip as always.

Is this not possible with their new focus arrow assist?
@@jayzn1931 Nope, but also the focus arrow is needing electronic contacts, so a lot of the dumb manual focus glass can't take advantage of it.
Gracias!
You are the best !
Thank you, Great information
Thank you so much for this👍 😮
Didn't know about the half shutter press in combination with S-focus mode that it would be possible to manually focus. Thanks, learned something today :)
Wow! There's so many features and tricks built into these cameras. Thanks for the tip!
Great tip. Many thanks 👍
Helpful AND entertaining.
Great Video! - Would like to see this on an X-H2 since you cannot press the front or back dials.
I knew some but not all of this--thank you!
you are the best
great tip! and: great entertainment, as always!
that was a double tap fujilicious tip thank you. im guessing it will work on the x-t5.
Excellent tip, Thx!!

Good stuff. I knew about Focus Check, but not about its zoom.

Just when I was getting a hang of back button focus with manual mode . And now a new thing😂.
Nice feature, thanks, nice work
Good tip I can use that on my xt 4
I definitely needed this one. I'm struggling to understand manual focus on X-T3 with a wide angle lens.
If I am not mistaken it also works in Continuous auto focus.
Being praying to wake up on a news that fujifilm has released a new firmware 😔
Same thoughts... Its time!
if that firmware is a let down I better get triple tap feature in compensation.
Or buy a camera that has working autofocus, like a Sony
Same
Fantastic help - I use a lot of non-Fuji manual lenses - this will be a great help. THank you!
You're welcome! I'm glad it was helpful! 🙏

Anazing video! Does It work when using back button focus?

You've got to 'double tap' to be sure. It's my #2 rule. see Zombieland.
Thanks Chris.
Final part i didn't know. rest i knew. Thanks.
This is a dealchanger for the X-H2(s). I didn’t even know that setting existed even though I probably used it on accident before😅
Thx
How to use it on x-h2 ?
@ Exactly the same as here, no?
I had this double tab already turned on but didn't know about the double tab function 😂
Can you do the double zoom feature if you set another buttom other than the dial to zoom in?
Still learning my XT5 after switching from Canon - do you have a list of videos or some downloadable help for things like settings for wildlife focus and how to actually access... how to change your focus point quickly and easily (and confirm it) etc etc. THANKS SO MUCH!!

Try setting the rear command dial custom button to “focus check.”
If you put the camera in AF + MF you don’t have to mess with half-press when in S-AF mode re manual tweak of focus.
Like one of the earlier comments, the zoom function when the dial is pressed on single focus mode doesn't activate the zoom function. But it works on the manual focus. Is there an extra step that needs to be done for this to work?

How is the setting for the Zoom-Focus called that you showcased on your rare command dial? My buttons are all customized so I can't find it.
can you make a video about fujifilm focus issues on xs20 xt5 xh2 xh2s ? thanks
Hasnt he?

Any suggestions
Tried single and manual focus
AF double tap trick! No more waiting for Fuji November firmware update or at least this will distract us until then.
I learned something but I am not sure I will remember it😢
the first thing I do whenever I get a new fuji camera is turn off the touch screen completely, and hide that awful "touch" thing in the corner.
to do mf in af-s you need af+mf setting to be on
