I just saw a reel in instagram and i fell in love with your dice. Damn, we can clearly see the comitment and care you have to create them. Really good job, man
I would love to see how you get some of the effects in your dice. That would be a great video to make. Or um one on the different kinds of silicone and what to know before you start trying to make dice.
Are you still planning on making the casting video? This molding tutorial is so well done; I must have watched it a dozen times so far. Can’t wait to see what you do with the casting video.
You can still use it but you would need to make another mold for that one die. The bigger issue is that any cavity that's left empty in a slab mold can get deformed and deform the cavities around it if it isn't filled in when pressurized. So you still need to either pour that cavity or drop in a die in there when you pour. I tend to just make a new slab mold at that point.
Please make the video about making the badonkachonk soon!! I printed out a badonkachonk of my own and want to make sure I do it correctly when I finish polishing and molding. :) I ordered the cool brass pieces and plan on using those from now on! I also ordered the little funnels. Thank you so much for the great tips!! :)
Oh no, sorry to hear! I just checked and for some reason it was linking to a standard doublesided tape and not the thick vynil one I use. I've gone ahead and updated.
If I were looking to make my own custom dice with custom faces, how would I go about that? Would you recommend I use a 3D printed mock up of the dice to make a mold or is there a better solution/alternative?
You first need a 3D file, then you need to print it, then you need to finish it. For 3D files there's tutorials on youtube for using Blender as well as some tools online that allow you to just pick a font and size and render your cad file. For 3D printing it should be a resin print so it can be finished and polished. You can print yourself, look on etsy for 3d printing services (there's some that specialize in dice), or use a service like shapeways. And for finishing it's generally removing supports, flat lapping the faces then progressively sanding each face up to about a 2500 grit and then polishing with compound.
this is the best video I have seen on mold making. thank you very much for making it. I have a question. I am new to making mold with a master. Each time make a mold it looks great until I dod my first dice in them and they the dice come out with what looks like little nubs and the mold is full of pits that left those on my dice. Do I need to use something like inhibit X or is there something else I might be doing wrong that is causing it. I had my master for about 4mths before I had time to do anything with them so I would think that the sulfer on the surface wouldn't be an issue but I am just not sure. Again love your tutorials.
Are you casting under pressure? If you are, your mold needs to be cast under pressure as well -- otherwise what happens is the mold has micro bubbles in it and when you put it under pressure the bubbles burst / poke out on the inside of the mold, leaving those nubbly or pin marks. Otherwise, reach out to me on insta and send me a photo and I can help troubleshoot better.
Do the reservoirs and vents add extra work to finishing that face? I had sprue molds before and that's something I always disliked about them was trying to sand out that circle/tube of resin where the sprue was. Do you have any tips or tricks on finishing if there is a reservoir and vent?
Usually with cap molds there's a small flash or lip on the edge of the cap face so that still needs to be finished regardless. The recommendation for etiher vents or reservoirs or sprues is to limit them to one face so that's the only one you need to finish. Should be fairly similar to finish regardless -- just snip the sprue off, then sand down using a rougher sandpaper (400 or 600 grit), then finish per usual.
Your super big dice are so cool but I can't afford one. Did you make your own master for it? None of the big ones I've seen are as big as these big ones (that's what she said).
@@dicecraftx you're so welcome! Making my own dice masters and casting dice in resin for friends is going to be one of my next hobby projects and this is by far the best tutorial on molds out there.
Hi! You're video reached all the way to the Netherlands :), i really enjoyed it and now i'm inspired to try it myself. Two questions: - of course i need a dice in order to make a mold. In what program did you design it? - i saw that you used ornaments for the liquid cores, I want to start small with regular dice, how to make them beautiful/have a liquid core?
I think I designed the geometry in blender but now I'm using Fusion 360 for this kind of work. For small dice liquid cores there's small glass orbs you can find on amazon that are usually used for pendants.
This is probably the best tutorial video I have ever seen… absolutely amazing job.
This is SOOOOOO good and detailed tutorial, thank you for your work!

I've got it halfway done just haven't had a chance to get back to it! Thanks for the kind words!
@@dicecraftx I'm so excited to see this. Thank you!
nice use of "behoove" Plenty of good info here!
fantastic video!!
Great video! Thanks for sharing!
Great video bro. Interesting to learn about slab molds getting ruined if one die goes bad.

Best mold video I've seen yet, thank you for sharing!
Hello, I going to make a 30mm D6 dice mold. Would I need a reservoir in the cap for a die that size?
😂 mejor explicación no puede haber, muchas gracias por la info, que paso con este proyecto?

how did you make your master? what material you used? acrylic
It's 3D printed resin!
Great video. How do you make the master part?
Just found that the double-sided gel tape you linked for the sprues inhibits silicone. Not sure if what you got did, but the stuff I just got did.
Oh no, sorry to hear! I just checked and for some reason it was linking to a standard doublesided tape and not the thick vynil one I use. I've gone ahead and updated.
@@dicecraftx Figured I'd give a heads up.

Wait. Where did you get the original chonk? How am I supposed to make monster dice without and original chonk? 😭
Get one 3D printed! You can also start making molds by using dice you might have lying around.
@@dicecraftx it's all good. I found a 55mm big boy online lol
@@IngeniousOutdoors link?? 🥺
I was wondering were did you get your big dice so that you could have it for the mold making process
I had it 3D printed in resin!

I don't play games, I just like dice.
I got a bike pump but I cannot for the life of me figure out how to connect it to my pressure pot :(
