- Here is the full walkthrough on how I make my weird cap/sprue hybrid molds.
Design your own mold box: en.makercase.c...
Download the STLs for the pedestals/bases: www.thingivers...
I do not sell molds, but I hope this helps you create your own!
(sorry for the vertical video, instagram is my primary platform.)
Of all the dice mold videos I’ve watched, this is absolutely the easiest to follow while also being short. Thank you for your incredibly valuable contribution. 🤘🤘🤘
this is one of the most thought out molds i've seen. Its very clavier
This is what i imagine as near “foolproof” and it is beautiful 😭
exactly , it's the better mix of all other technic. The only problem is the quantity of silicon needed !
This was awesome. I on a resin kick and now want to make dice for my siblings that actually play games with more then just a 6d. This was the best of both worlds, now to find a 3d printer friend
My only wish, was that youtube would allow me to give you more than one like.
That was brilliant, and you have not only opened my mind, but blown it a bit as well.
Thank you SO much for this vid!!!
Thank you for this video. I've made a few different molds now, not happy with any of them really.... wanted a hybrid, this is basically what I was looking for (as I don't want to have to cut the excess off before removing the cap)! Easy to follow and not 1hour long either!
If only I had a way to get a pressure pot thingie!
Still, simple and informative video, loving the way you explain, you got yourself a follow ^ ^
Awesome idea i love it
Hmmmm.....so can I justify my 3d printer purchase so that i can make better dice molds? love the video very helpful, your are pretty smart in coming up with this :)
This is exactly what I was thinking. I can justify my expensive Hoby with my other expensive Hoby lol
Thanks so much for this!! The pot life time of your silicone gives me anxiety 😅 but I am sure I can take away so much useful info from your process!
Haha, I definitely didn’t start with a pot life that short, but as I got more confident I realized I could handle it, and the 75 minute cure time means I can crank out the molds!
For other people, you have something at the ibottom part of the pressure pot top, to redirect air to the side.
Nope! I haven’t modified the inside air flow of the pressure pot. If I put something directly under the air flow it can splatter, I just try to fill it up slowly.
Sorry for responding late, what I mean is adding an l shaped pipe, ( sorry for the suggestion even though you clearly said you didn’t need any) the air is directed at the sides of the pressure pot that way nothing gets hit directly, I’ve done that to my modified one, and its also preinstalled in my new pressure pot ^_^
This is awesome! I hope to try this in the future, but I’m just getting started now so itll have to wait !
I have a slightly different Sprue mold I found and then made my box with 3d printing. and 3d printed sprue funnels
Awesome tutorial. Quick and simple. I wanted to know the size of the box you used to make your molds. It's exactly what I'm looking for.
127mmx70mm!
@@fireboltdice867 I forgot to ask if those where outside or inside measurements.
@@mrjrm0868 inside.
That is ingenious
More videos! More videos!! More videos!!!
This looks like an amazing way to make molds.. certainly seems to cut out some of the guess work
May I ask you what brand of double sided tape you use?
Very cool
Do you increase the text stroke depth for the face used as base to compensate the sanding needed ?
Really helpful thanks. Can I just ask I'd there's a reason you did one big Slab top rather than individual lids? Just interested
Saves time, mostly! Don’t have to worry about which lid is which, or accidentally putting it on the wrong one or wrong direction.
@@fireboltdice867 ah that makes sense :) I was just thinking about saving silicone, but now you've said it, I can see that mixing up lids could be a problem. Thank you again
what's your post processing of your printed master dice look like in order to make them mouldable?
do you know if you can add these sprues to a normal dice mold? like using a thinn brass pipe could it work?
Yep!
How are you able to pull the mold lid off with the sprues tempering out like that?
The silicone I use is soft enough that it stretches enough to let the sprues slide through.
@@fireboltdice867 thats really cool! Ive been having some issues with my dragon skin 10 medium, its so thick its hard to pour in small batches for me and at least with individual molds I need to put my pot at a very low PSI (25) otherwise I seem to be getting some pretty bad warping. I'm hoping that won't happen once I make a slab mold.
AWESOME!
you dont have problems with cure inhibition for the 3d printed parts?
I leave all the 3d printed parts in a sunny spot for 2-4 weeks before making a mold. That way I have no cure inhibition!
Dope
Nice system, I like all the 3d printed accessories. My only advice would be stop using dragon skin. It really isn't a good long term silicon for molds, mold star is more durable and lasts longer. It can be stiffer yes, but with a two part mold that isn't a huge deal. Like the pressure pot, glad to see a dice maker on youtube not using some "save a buck" harbor freight piece of junk.
At this point I’ve tried Dragonskin, sorta clear, moldmax, and Moldstar. Moldmax is my favorite, but the cure time and extreme flexibility of Dragonskin make it ideal for dice. Most other silicones kill my hands trying to get the dice out of the molds. But you’re not wrong, Dragonskin doesn’t tear, but it does lose its shine pretty quickly.
The piece of junk you're talking about is enough for the job.... So why not save a buck?
@@nourson54 because it isn't. I didnt call it a piece of junk because it is up to the task. If you get one and it doesn't leak or have obvious damage you got lucky. Look at all the tutorials on how to convert it then watch a video of that same person using a pressure pot. You will notice the harbor freight pot is normally never seen again or is on a shelf as a decoration, almost never will it actually be used.
How long do you keep the molds pressurized in the pot?
Every silicone is different. This one is 75 minutes. But I’ve used others that are 24 hours.
This is spectacular. Do you have STL for the dice themselves? I can download various patterns from thingiverse or even make my own but I'd like to match your pedestals as closely as possible.
I have made the pedestals on thingiverse to “standard” dice sizes. I actually don’t use standard sizes for my dice. So the pedestals I use are different than those on thingiverse. Sorry!
@@fireboltdice867 Awesome, thanks. I've not polished them yet but these seem to fit nicely in case anyone's looking - www.thingiverse.com/thing:4704831
Question, you spray the dice in the mold with the release agent as well as everything else; does that effect the final mold of that face of the dice?
I do not spray the dice! The only time I spray mold release is before pouring the lid.
@@fireboltdice867 I ask because in the video, after you place the sprues in, you use the mold release, just after taking out the sprues. . But I don't see you put anything on the dice face you can see, you just spray the release agent on, including the dice faces. Hence my question.
@@WarbearPrime oh! I see. Yes, the one dice face does get sprayed. It does give it a satin finish instead of a glossy one. However, because of the sprue that face needs to be sanded and polished anyway. So I find it doesn’t really change the process.
@@fireboltdice867 Awesome, thanks for that!
That's awesome. Do you sell molds as well?
I do not, sorry!
@@fireboltdice867 darn. Lol
I didn't see you using any inhibitx, do you not need it with dragonskin?
You do, but I leave my masters in a warm and well ventilated place for 2-4 weeks after printing, and that gives them enough time to degas and not cause cure inhibition.
@@fireboltdice867 oh so if I printed my dice I just need to leave them about a month before molding them without inhibitx? That's great news 😁
@@chaosisbeautiful yep! Though not all resins take the same amount of time, so I recommend doing a mold of a single d6 before doing something as big as a full slab mold just to be safe.
@@fireboltdice867 thanks for your help! 🙂
Yoooo since when is jaiden_animations making dice? For real you sound just like her o.O
