I think videos like this are meant more to be interesting than actually useful. I'm sure there's some useful information in the video to a few people...... but yeah, anyone with all these materials to make the dice, probably (pretty much guaranteed) already know how to make the dice lol. And thus do not need a video like this. Videos like this are more for people who just want to see, rather than actual learn (to do). but like I said, I'm sure there's a few key points in here that someone might learn something from (in order to do).
billy fraiser your not wrong this is enjoyable content however I don’t think your entirely right either, I think this video and many others are perfect examples of how to make great dice and for someone who is a beginner dice goblin who has just bought a vacuum chamber/pressure pot and that it’s more of an online demo video. I’m not saying your wrong I just think that it’s aimed more towards beginner dice makers and hobbyists that already have accessibility to things like the vacuums chambers/ pressure pots and the materials can just be purchased cheaply if not already owned.

Being honest, the bronze/Gold bubbled dice were mesmerizing to me... Imagining an avatar going "you have no luck left for you" while he crumbles these dice in front of the player... (man, I'm overdramatic today)
I've never had a reaction like that, but I've had good results after using a hot water bath for my resin first, mixing the resin in a hot water bath, and then leaving the cap off for a short time to pop surface bubbles before putting the lid on. I'm no expert, it's only thanks to Rybonator that I have handmade dice period, but I've been desperately trying anything I can to get relatively bubble free dice without throwing down several hundred dollars on a pressure pot and air compressor

Oh, wow! I'm giddy again!! The pottery wheel for easier sanding was an unattainable dream for me, but this is another option! I love the look of totally sanded and polished dice, but I'll just be happy to make them again! My crying joints thank you!!!! ❤️❤️
I honestly love the bubble effect, I wonder if you could try to stabilize them with clear resin so they keep the texture but are stronger and have a smooth surface?
I work with resin alot myself Rybonator, and i find that if you mix the gold leaf in the resin before pouring make them float in place in the resin and disperse more easily. if you want thicker pieces of gold, mix it just alittle just before before pouring, cause the more you mix the leaf (or flakes) the smaller the pieces will be in the resin. it makes it so much easier that mixing it in the mold and looks really pretty.
I just finished my squish mold using this tutorial (used a ferrero roche container, thanks to the comments) and without thinking about it, I poured exactly the same petri method dice down to the same color of alcohol ink. Won't know how they turn out until tomorrow. Thanks for this video!!

I've made my own molds now, learned l like 10 different ways to make amazing effects, and the puns at the beginning always make me laugh. I just removed a set of dice from my cap mold and they came out awesome! I don't have a pressure pot so i pay attention to my stirring/mixing technique and with this mold I got a set of almost bubble free dice. Inly the D6 and D10 have a small bubble in the top but its totally fixable. BTW thank you so much for your great, informative and entertaining videos! I learned so much and I really enjoy watching them over and over again.
I was watching that clip of you using the knife and thought man I would slice my thumb if I cut towards me..... I guess I’m not alone! But I’m definitely going to try this mold method!
Ok ik this is an older video, but you can put your mixed resin in the pressure pot to pop the bubbles before you pour the dice, it can really minimise them in the end result
I just watched your video on recoloring the numbers on your dice this morning. Back in the day of AD&D we used crayons to fill in the numbers on the dice and change the colors. You just rub the crayon across the number until the wax fills it in and buff the top.
Congratulations. I've been following you for about 9 months now, holding off getting into dice making because I don't have a proper work space for crafting yet but will at some point in the (hopefully) near-ish future (and probably would have by now if the pandemic hadn't happened), and I wanted to hold off until that happened. This was the video that broke me. I ordered my pressure pot today.

A few tricks i learned while making my molds: 1) if getting a fimo is a problem use heat glue - cut a tiny piece from the stick with exacto knife, heat it over a candle while holding it on the blade, stick to your dice and then stick dice to your container. Do this fast and you are good to go 2) you don't need to add registration marks now, you can just cut random pieces on edges once this layer is cured 3) milk or juice boxes as containers work great since they don't get sticky at all so you can skip the vaseline step, however to make sure your superglue sticks, scratch the place to get rid of that nonsticky layer where you want to glue down your dice 4) baby powder + soft brush are your friend, apply well over the surface where your second part touches and brush it nicely into all crooks and nooks before pouring the second layer. That's it.
Seeing this was a great reference! I'm trying to make dice using molding putty but I was unsure how to form the base. Can't wait to see what else you'll create!
I always tap my molds and squeeze them a bit to help get the excess air out. I actually push my molds caps down really firmly to get it as flush as possible, and usually don’t have issues with bubbles.
Ok so I tried this using the regular smooth on silicone and while it worked, I have decided that dragon skin is infinitely better. I had a piece on the dice mold tear while separating the two halves. Plus the smooth on can be a little too floppy to work with. I also decided to add sprues to the top piece. And while not pretty it did certainly work well. I really feel like this mold (with sprues) is the best of all molds I’ve tried. It gave direct access to the dice so you can manipulate the colors and mixes while also having a reservoir for some extra resin. The biggest pain for me was cleaning the petroleum jelly off after finishing the mold. I used Vick’s vapo rub because that’s what I had lol. Anyways thank you so much for this video. I feel confident that this is the mold I will use for the foreseeable future
Hey Ryan. I know this is an old video but the non pressurized casting isn’t totally without merit. That effect could look pretty interesting in a set of shell dice. Might try that (kinda similar to dragon scale dice)

Rybonator I've been on your discord for about a month now learning from all the members there and finding methods that worked for making dice. I've had some success and even learned how to get more out of my 3d printer. I was literally just about to start looking for a method like this and man I'm glad you did it. Could we possibly get a video someday about resin experiments with different types and how they effect inclusions such as opal imitation flakes or ground materials?
@@Rybonator My experiments so far have yielded good results with East coast Epoxy brand when the material is vacuumed before pouring. It's so thick with mica flakes and other additives that the amount of air is a bit above what the pressure can adjust for, but it still looks amazing. There is a picture of some of the dice in your discord
I have been meaning to make some new molds down the road, might just try this out honestly. Also for those who can't get liquid glitter, like myself because Amazon sellers are insane with the prices, I found that certain nail polishes that only have a glitter like effect works pretty good. One warning tho, I would recommend using mold release before using them, some of the older molds had all the numbers pulled out of them because the nail polish dried them out allot more then I thought they would, which is fine since they were test molds anyway. They had more problems then solutions so they were bound to letting me test new ideas out when ever they came up.
I just made a mold today using this method. (Sans pressure pot since it's out of my price range at the moment.) The 2 part mold came apart so easy. Now I'm wating to see if the dice turn out alright. (I used a heat gun to get rid of bubbles. And poured the resin slowly.)
I would love to see a video where you try out different types of resin and let us know which ones work best. I know you love art and glow but it's awesome to see other brands and how they work.
Good thing to note with making registration marks on really any two piece mold. If you don't have a substance like clay, or you just forgot to make the marks due to small oversight You can make the Keys before you start creating the 2nd part of the mold (so long as your vessel is still intact). Take an ex-acto knife and make your keys by carving out small channels in the silicone (making them A-symetric is important ), just make sure you keep the marks a bit from your actual mold piece (maybe a cm or 2) - I personally find that triangular Key channels have worked best for me and recommend them over squared keys that youd get from using a die ( they just align a little bit better) Tip x2" you can spray a layer of spray paint clear coat on your mold piece and itll prevent the second pour from sticking (though this will probably/may affect the texture of you casts - you see the same effect from the Vaseline in the video) its just easier if you dont need that glass texture replication silicone is perfect at doing
This is a good point! I usually use ball bearings in mine if I can, but since we had clay and need it for the dice, I wanted to go ahead and use it here :) The triangle style is a great way to go!

Sprue molds with removable caps, that sounds very convenient for making full sets like this. If I ever get into making dice, I'll probably use that for a method.
I should try this eventually if i ever get the chance to 3D print my own master set. I got some squish molds(I think they're the Dispell rip-offs) off of Amazon and I've made one set with them with no pressure pot, but they didn't turn out so bad. The D4 and D12 were the only ones that didn't get overloaded with bubbles even though the others just had a few. One has the entire 1 face missing but I think that was because the mold fell over when I was putting them in a safe place 👀 I'm going to make another set soon, my fiance made a few die(he only wanted to make a d20 but mixed enough resin for 3 molds by accident) and we're going to see how they turn out later tonight.
My resin goals absolutely involve putting stuff in dice so this method is perfect for what I want! Now I know exactly what materials I should actually invest in! :) I also have so little desire to clean up dice haha 😂 And a rose gold would look great on the green set!
So, this my preferred method, and I would just like to drop a little tip: Instead of using clay to stick the dice down, you can line the bottom of your mold box with low tack tape (sticky side up) so the entire face is covered and you dont have to trim the silicone before making the cap. It has given me a much cleaner finish and i have virtually no cleanup except for a little bit of trimming.

I made a mold like this after seeing this video, I have used it to make several sets now and it is fantastic! It even saves on resin use.
Have you thought of making one of the "snake skin" sets then giving them a second coat to harden them? Just thought they looked pretty awesome
It would be hard to do, but not impossible. Though you would probably lose 99% of the snakeskin look as soon as other resin touches it.

Idk if you have ever tried alumilite clear slow resin...but it cures crystal clear in 2-4 hours and it works amazing on dice.
Also I use uv resin to fill bubbles. Idk if you have ever tried it but adding clear uv resin blends in super well to even colored dice.

gonna have to try this squish/cap mold method. It looks much easier to get pretty looking dice the first go.
Seeing this was a great reference! I'm trying to make dice using molding putty but I was unsure how to form the base. Can't wait to see what else you'll create!

It's a great starter method to be sure!
I always tap my molds and squeeze them a bit to help get the excess air out. I actually push my molds caps down really firmly to get it as flush as possible, and usually don’t have issues with bubbles.
Ok so I tried this using the regular smooth on silicone and while it worked, I have decided that dragon skin is infinitely better. I had a piece on the dice mold tear while separating the two halves. Plus the smooth on can be a little too floppy to work with. I also decided to add sprues to the top piece. And while not pretty it did certainly work well. I really feel like this mold (with sprues) is the best of all molds I’ve tried. It gave direct access to the dice so you can manipulate the colors and mixes while also having a reservoir for some extra resin. The biggest pain for me was cleaning the petroleum jelly off after finishing the mold. I used Vick’s vapo rub because that’s what I had lol. Anyways thank you so much for this video. I feel confident that this is the mold I will use for the foreseeable future
Hey Ryan. I know this is an old video but the non pressurized casting isn’t totally without merit. That effect could look pretty interesting in a set of shell dice. Might try that (kinda similar to dragon scale dice)

Rybonator I've been on your discord for about a month now learning from all the members there and finding methods that worked for making dice. I've had some success and even learned how to get more out of my 3d printer. I was literally just about to start looking for a method like this and man I'm glad you did it. Could we possibly get a video someday about resin experiments with different types and how they effect inclusions such as opal imitation flakes or ground materials?
It is 100% on my list to tackle :) Hopefully sooner rather than later!
@@Rybonator My experiments so far have yielded good results with East coast Epoxy brand when the material is vacuumed before pouring. It's so thick with mica flakes and other additives that the amount of air is a bit above what the pressure can adjust for, but it still looks amazing. I have been meaning to make some new molds down the road, might just try this out honestly.
Also for those who can't get liquid glitter, like myself because Amazon sellers are insane with the prices, I found that certain nail polishes that only have a glitter like effect works pretty good. One warning tho, I would recommend using mold release before using them, some of the older molds had all the numbers pulled out of them because the nail polish dried them out allot more then I thought they would, which is fine since they were test molds anyway.
They had more problems then solutions so they were bound to letting me test new ideas out when ever they came up.
I just made a mold today using this method. (Sans pressure pot since it's out of my price range at the moment.) The 2 part mold came apart so easy. Now I'm wating to see if the dice turn out alright. (I used a heat gun to get rid of bubbles. And poured the resin slowly.)
I would love to see a video where you try out different types of resin and let us know which ones work best. I know you love art and glow but it's awesome to see other brands and how they work.
Good thing to note with making registration marks on really any two piece mold. If you don't have a substance like clay, or you just forgot to make the marks due to small oversight You can make the Keys before you start creating the 2nd part of the mold (so long as your vessel is still intact).
Take an ex-acto knife and make your keys by carving out small channels in the silicone (making them A-symetric is important ), just make sure you keep the marks a bit from your actual mold piece (maybe a cm or 2)
- I personally find that triangular Key channels have worked best for me and recommend them over squared keys that youd get from using a die ( they just align a little bit better)
Tip x2" you can spray a layer of spray paint clear coat on your mold piece and itll prevent the second pour from sticking (though this will probably/may affect the texture of you casts - you see the same effect from the Vaseline in the video) its just easier if you dont need that glass texture replication silicone is perfect at doing
This is a good point! I usually use ball bearings in mine if I can, but since we had clay and need it for the dice, I wanted to go ahead and use it here :) The triangle style is a great way to go!

The Pressure pot isn't ABSOLUTELY necessary, though you will get a lot of bubbles in this style :/ So it's hard to recommend without it.
@@Rybonator sorry if this is a dumb question, but even if you were to have a vacuum chamber for the resin or use other tactics to eliminate bubbles beforehand?

Sprue molds with removable caps, that sounds very convenient for making full sets like this. If I ever get into making dice, I'll probably use that for a method.

I should try this eventually if i ever get the chance to 3D print my own master set. I got some squish molds(I think they're the Dispell rip-offs) off of Amazon and I've made one set with them with no pressure pot, but they didn't turn out so bad. The D4 and D12 were the only ones that didn't get overloaded with bubbles even though the others just had a few. One has the entire 1 face missing but I think that was because the mold fell over when I was putting them in a safe place 👀
I'm going to make another set soon, my fiance made a few die(he only wanted to make a d20 but mixed enough resin for 3 molds by accident) and we're going to see how they turn out later tonight.
My resin goals absolutely involve putting stuff in dice so this method is perfect for what I want! Now I know exactly what materials I should actually invest in! :) I also have so little desire to clean up dice haha 😂

So, this my preferred method, and I would just like to drop a little tip: Instead of using clay to stick the dice down, you can line the bottom of your mold box with low tack tape (sticky side up) so the entire face is covered and you dont have to trim the silicone before making the cap. It has given me a much cleaner finish and i have virtually no cleanup except for a little bit of trimming.
This is by far my favourite mold!
