Yup, you've got a couple years on me, but I'm definitely at the age where time is FLYING... 20 years ago seems like the other day... what the heck is going on...
I agree - that was a huge year for everything they did, and rapid change year to year slowed down after that. I would say 1985 was the year they really put things together for motocross bikes and ATV's. The modern machines still reflect the 1985 innovation in many ways still.
Born in ‘71, I remember all of these growing up and rode the 70 as a kid. I made my way to dirt bike MX but always wanted that 200X. That front disc brake and the white/red/blue scheme was just sweet. Thoroughly enjoyed this video. You have some rare gems! We still have our blue ‘71 Z50 I learned on and a green ‘78 Honda Express.
Man do I ever love this video!!! Brings back so many memories. I started at 12 years old with a ATC 110 and then went to a 200 and finally finished with the 250sx that was exactly like the one in this video. Sold it in 1987 to buy my first car. I absolutely loved it and still think of it often. Thanks for this video. My mind is full of amazing memories right now. 👍✌️🇨🇦
You remind me of my story. I also had a 1985 110 when I was 12 and regrettably sold it to put towards buying my first car. I bought a 1985 250SX in 2016 and no way am I ever letting it go. Still wanting to add a 110 back to the collection though (along with a few others).
Great video, lots of memories! I am an original owner of the oddball 85 200M that I bought brand new at age 13 with my paper route money. Still own it today. Doesn’t get used much anymore
Very cool video! My first bike was an 85 250ES, I rode the old girl until the rear end gave up the ghost. Then I bought my 250sx. Good times! Thanks for sharing.
In 1985 I mowed so many lawns and bought a lightly used 200X. Took the biggest crash in my life on it and dented my tank up after only owning it for about two weeks. I was devastated and was 15 years old. Recovered and had a great time on that trike for quite a while.
I got my 185s in 1982, had friends that had 70's 90's 110's, 200's 200x's Big Red's...My uncle got a regular 185, in 79 (I had only ridden 110's up to that time) he then got a 250R & eventually even got an Odyssey... I was 12 in 1982, in Northern Tennessee & we lived on these things...I still enjoy them today, they are just different from everything else & surly had their place. I intend to own another one when I have space...Crazy that they canceled them...A friend of mine sells motorsport equip in Michigan said more people are injured or killed on Snowmobiles than Street Bikes, Dirt Bikes, Quads & jet skis combined...I don't know its true but KNOW in Mich. more people have crashed on Snow Machines that 3 wheelers ever....
Yup, they got a bum rap... The injuries that did occur.... well, most of them at least, were from parents putting kids on them with zero instruction or safety gear. Sounds like you had an awesome childhood though!!
Where I grew up everyone in my neighborhood had Honda except one guy bought a Yamaha junk wouldn’t let him ride with us had to be 25 Honda 185 200x 250r big reds 350x and a odyssey
1985 was my favorite year for the ATC lineup. I own a 1985 250SX and do prefer the red color over the 1986-87 models. The only 1986 models I prefer over 1985 would be the 200X and 350X. A 250R from either year would be great.
Awesome....lived the trikes , took every one for granted and got hurt..Beautiful trikes I have an 86 trx 250-R now , never looking back . Other than snow and mud , the trike cuts like a knife .. and top speed is greater on the trike , my 85 atc was 85mph , my trx is 72... extra weight made the difference between doing what you want do at times Appreciate the trike , never take er for granted 😊
Great model year.. Dad bought a new 85' 250SX.. Seems like a lot of people in my part of the country had an 85 3-wheeler.. Lol.. The mid 80's were great times.. 👍👍👍
Up here in Canada, the 200M and 200e are super common. I don't know if it was the price point or the sales pitch, but Honda sold alot of them up here. We didn't have the racing background up here as the states did, it was mostly utility or recreational use like fishing and hunting. When I was first buying them for parts, many were one owner machines and I was told that the dealers ran specials for the 200m and 200e frequently. They were easy to fix in the bush if something went wrong and they had the utility racks needed to get the job done. Funny you mentioned the spotlights, they were common to find up here years ago, but as the used market prices started to increase, they started to become less common. On a final note, the 110 and 125 were also popular, followed by the 200es and 250es & sx as time went on...
Mr Preston… Thanks for another really nice trike video. Always enjoy watching these. In an upcoming video, can you share with us what you do for a profession ? I would love to know what you do when you’re not making ATC content. Thank you. Mike B.
What's up man! I could do that... it's boring though! It involves clicking a mouse and pushing paper! I sit around way too much which is probably why I'm a little thicker in the middle than I'd like! But yeah, I'll do something like that for you.
I'm sure you've seen Tims hardtail 200S racers.... There's something that would make a great video. I remember when he posted his and a couple other 200S racers on 3WW. Fantastic machines. Wish I had kept ours and done the same
My Aunt has a 1985 ATC110 with the Hi/Lo range and auto clutch. That thing was used, abused, left out barely covered usually by a car port. It snows a lot there so it still was loaded with snow and ice. Barely had oil changes, a spark plug or two. Thing still runs, the clutch is spent and it needs starting fluid to start but it runs.
First I want to say that I'm looking forward to the Trike Fest videos. Second, I have a few thoughts on the 200M. Despite the starting and drive differences, I think that the 1980 185, the 200, the 200E, and the 200ES were basically the same machine. They all used the 12x12-9 tires, similar rear fenders, and similar seats. I feel that the ATC 200 didn't sell very well after the 200E came out. I know that the electric start was very popular. I think that Honda tried to keep the big framed, lower cost utility trikes going by putting the electric start onto the 1983 ATC200 and calling it a 200M. I feel that the fact that 83 was the last year for the 200 and 84 was the first year of the 200M (in the US) tends to back that up. I have nothing to prove what I've said, but it all makes sense to me. Just like manufacturers today, Honda was trying to hit several different price points to appeal to a wider range of buyers.
Thank you sir! Well, I think you're on to something with the 200M theory, but the 1980 185 and 1981-1983 ATC 200 Chassis is different than the 200M's chassis. It's more like the 82/83 Big Red, with the exception of the front forks which is identical to the 83 200. I agree that they were trying to hit all the price points. I bet they had 82/83 Big Red frames in inventory to use up and opted to make the stripped down utility trike to use them up.
@@ThisOldTrike I agree they were meeting a price point and that it was done to make the 200 more popular when competing with the 200e, and I also think they were trying something, there was a lot of change between 1980-1984 and then things got more stable and consistent when the big 1985 year came and the M had no place, and the now dated 25-inch 200 platform died. It was a smart idea to use the old parts to make a machine with a better purpose. Weird those front forks only ran for three years on the 200 and the M though.
200m was an ideal machine. I have a 200es now and had a 200m for 15 years and wish I had the 200m now. It was lighter, had better forks and didn't have all the big red stuff to deal with and slow it down - but you had to get a rear rack for sure. Went through two sets of sprokets and chains during that time so the maintenance wasn't an issue, but it performed a lot better. The extra 40 lbs in the rear and the shaft drive of the ES with the weak forks make a big difference from an enjoyment point of view if you aren't interested in the utility aspect and are using the trike mostly for transportation.
@@ThisOldTrike I 200m front end swapped my ES. You should notice the ES pushes a lot more and that the M is a lot easier to rotate and slide. I lost my storage for the M and had to sell it - still trying to get it back. Keep up the great vids! I actually did listen to this video before bed last night.
@@ThisOldTrike And I agree it was an oddball when you look at the lineage of the other bikes in the lineup but it was a lower cost than the big red. It seems to be made on purpose and not an excuse to use up old parts.
@@ThisOldTrike Where do I find the serial number on the motor to tell the size of it I found it on the frame for the bike just wanna make sure the motor is the same
@ThisOldTrike Sweet thank you Do you recommend Any good website to look up said information I have looked up on 2 different ones and found 2 different years for my same Vin on the frame
In my opinion, you under rated the 200X. I honestly think that it should be up there next to the 250R, mainly because it's more of a sport trike than others you put above it!!
I hear ya. I didn't put them in order of which machines value or rate above the others. I was just putting them in order of size for the most part. But you're right, I don't really care too much for the 1st gen 200X's. They're cool, but for me they're just kind of meh... But that probably has a lot to do with my weight and nostalgia for the 350X and the power of that machine. I get on a 200X and I'm kind of disappointed power-wise...
What a great line up of the 1985 ATC lineup! I always wanted to know the true difference between the 250SX and the 250ES as far as where Honda made the changes to make the SX geared higher than the Big Red? It's either in the trans or the rear end. When I was a teenager, me and another boy was messing around and swapped the tires over from his 85 250 SX over to my 85 Big Red and Vise versa, and it made the SX geared really High, and the Big Red was geared crazy low and wind through the gears very fast which was really funny at the time playing around. We never did a top speed with the SX with the Big Red tires. It felt so weird because 3rd gear felt like 5th gear, and it had plenty of power, we just didn't have nowhere to ride that fast. I wonder how fast that SX would go like that?
You do any private tours? I plan on being in Hamilton, NY area this summer. Absolutely love upstate New York! Your lucky to live in such a beautiful place. Enjoy your content. Thanks!
Hi, I just bought my son a 84 110 ATC in good condition except for a few crack fenders. Now I’m looking for myself a 200S, 250SX or a Big Red. I’m in the California SF Bay Area and wondering if you or anyone had any leads ? Looking for something ready to ride but not perfect and don’t want to pay a crazy price! I’ve always had Honda 3 wheelers my whole life and love them but the prices seem to have gone crazy since the last 2 1/2 years. Love the content and all your trikes I like to have a few of myself !
I'm a motorcycle guy. I have no use for four wheeler's with the exception of the Yamaha Banshee and although I've never owned one I always thought the three wheelers were pretty cool. Especially the 2 stroke racing machines. Thanks.
I bought a brand new 1986 ATC250sx, and loved it until it was stolen in 2017... I would love to get another, but the prices are so high I might as well get a new 4 wheeler... Always dreamed of getting a 250r but having to mix gas oil and then dealing with a manual clutch not so good for just putting around on... sure would be fun though
@@ThisOldTrike Thanks, had a lot of sentimental value my dad helped me buy it in 1986... I was a junior in high school... that machine was rode hard and still ran great. I remember dragging an 8 acre field with it the engine got so hot the gas started boiling in the metal tank... lol
@@ThisOldTrike Yes it was did that 3 times... my jeans got hot too... lol didn't have the heat shield on either. Put on a supertrap muffler and had it all dialed in, tons of low end torque
A few years ago I was selling a 2009 Nissan frontier. The buyer and myself were about $1000 apart and he offered me a basket case 85' 250R. It was complete, motor, good aftermarket plastics, wheels and axle. After assembly it would only need tires. I accepted it and sold it he next day to my neighbor for the $1000 that I wanted out of my truck. He put it together in an afternoon and sold it a few days later for $4,000!!!! I could have kicked myself.
Ahh..WTF? I was 11yrs old in 85.. My dad & me had two brand new TRX 125's Quads! My father worked for a Japanese company in Dublin. He was project manager for Honda's East Liberty plant in Marysville OH. His company TKS installed all of Honda's paint finishing systems. Dad was the 1st American to be hired by TKS.
Wow, I would love to visit your "showroom"! 😀 Very nice collection! I grew up on Honda ATCs on the farm. Since you have ridden so many, I have a question. Have you noticed any model being more stable than another? The reason I ask is because I only drove a 1986 ATC125M and a 1984 ATC110. The 110 always felt much more tippy than the 125. How do they compare to a 185 or the Big Reds? I own a 1984 ATC110 now that I had the engine rebuilt on but it doesn't have racks and I also want more power for work around our land so I'm planning on selling it and getting something else. Just not sure what yet.😉
is my 250es A odd ball since it has the silver throttle from new !!! I have high low and reverse!!! and it still is a fun toy with 30k km so far and climbing I put on it who know what the og owner put on it I am the 3rd owner legitly. and mine has never been registered !!! and I bought the over sized tires when i bought a sled for cheap !!! a 96' arctic cat puma 440 !!! was fun till crank bearing went out and cracked a cylinder !!! I just need the bigger fat front tire to do watrer crossing !!!!
Lol, I forget what I said in the video. No real gripe. Just don't understand why they made them when other very comparable machines were being offered.
Awesome video brother! I just subscribed here and hope to see more content from you. I have an 86 350x I’m trying to find a stator and pick up coil for. If anyone knows a good place to find it let me know pls. Thks👊🏻😎
All depends on condition and originality. The biggest value is in an unrestored, clean, all original machine. A used, good condition machine with uncracked fenders... "patina" on the tank and frame... some rust, replaced tires... wear on the racks... that is the typical condition of an 84 Big Red... that machine right now is worth about $1,750 to $2,000... but if fenders are busted up and the seat cover is ripped and the tank is dented up and rusty on the inside.... value falls fast.
I had the liquid cooled 250r and 2 200x wish i had the 350 x but the 200x is the best riding most fun bike i ever rode. No need to go so fast you die and its clutch and 5 speed make it a beautiful rider. The 250 scared me the whole time and it didn’t like putting around. It wanted to be opened up all the time or it would load up but the power band would put you in hyper speed and I could barely keep the front down all the way through 6th
I never understood why the 110 and the 125m even existed together. One was just as good as the other except for the electric start. I imagine the 125m would have eventually replace the 110 but ,with the looming ban, that long term plan failed.
I mean, it kinda did. 1985 was the last year of the 110... and the 125M continued into 86 and 87. The 200M is what always confuses me; how it existed along side the 200ES.
@@ThisOldTrike It wasn't a real 125M with the dual range sub-transmission though. It was just another 125. Different engine. The small one . By that time EVERYONE was getting the ultimate evolution of three wheeler which was the 1984 Big Red anyway.
Awesome! I'll be getting to the 1984 Line Up soon. Gotta get a machine put back together first and then I'll be ready. Hopefully before the end of November.

I used to have a 200X 1985 vintage. I agree the 85 was the best looking. I would love to own a 200X again I'm going to have to find one.
Thanks for all your help
Very cool, from a Honda old bike collector
Thank you very much!!
Thanks for the memories
Fantastic Line up!
Thanks brother!!
Ugh, I'm sorry to hear about your SX getting stolen. That's terrible. Yeah, an R wants to get opened up... doesn't like to putt very long...
@@ThisOldTrike Thanks, had a lot of sentimental value my dad helped me buy it in 1986... I was a junior in high school... that machine was rode hard and still ran great. I remember dragging an 8 acre field with it the engine got so hot the gas started boiling in the metal tank... lol
@iamthenra1968 wow... that was HOT!
@@ThisOldTrike Yes it was did that 3 times... my jeans got hot too... lol didn't have the heat shield on either. Put on a supertrap muffler and had it all dialed in, tons of low end torque
Is there any other model that has the same steering stem as the 200m? Or did they only design that for the 200m?
Sweet line up !
Thanks brother!!
Hey I was just wondering if you would know how to get rust out of a 1986 ATC200x gas tank
Where are you located and do you sell these I had a 200 big red and I loved it
I'm in NY. I don't normally sell; I'm a collector.
If you don’t mind me asking Preston what do you do for a living besides collect act’s??
As a kid I had a 110. 200. And a 250r... great times
Definitely awesome memories on these machines!!
Some great bikes. My favorite is the R.
Thank you! R's are some of the best!
is my 250es A odd ball since it has the silver throttle from new !!!
Cool video! I’m looking for an 85 R seat in decent condition if you know of any. Mine is an 86 with 85 replica cover stretched really tight lol
My buddy @mrcbuilds may have one for sale in the near future. Check him out if you haven't already and see what he says.
I have a plug in for factory spot light or winch I don't really know what it's for
The 85 200x always has a broken front fender! That one is very clean watched this video because i am picking up an 85 200s pretty clean 400$ tomorrow
What’s your gripe on the Honda ATC200M ?
Lol, I forget what I said in the video. No real gripe. Just don't understand why they made them when other very comparable machines were being offered.
Nice collection :)
Nice pump collection 👍
Nice collection
Thank you sir!!
Hey bud do u have or can you do of just all of the mint condition trikes please
Weird. I just seen a 83 250r for sale. But it's air cooled. You have the liquid cooled. ? Very nice set of rides.
85 250r was the first year for liquid cooled
Thank you for this content
Thank you for watching it!!
What happened to the 1985 185?
There's no such thing. The last year for the 185S was 1983.
Great vid inotice the 110 although similar to the 125 did nothave a front brake is this corect
You are correct, the 110's did not have a front brake. Thanks for the compliment sir!
I think I’ve had all those sizes over the years but I wish I would have kept the 350x and 250r my favorite trikes!
whats the differance in atc and xr/l ? is it true xr bigger carb and cam = more power ? 70 125 200 350 ?
Great question... I don't know the answer unfortunately...
Any 350x one's for sale??
Im shopping for my first honda atc. Im a 85 model, so id love to find one as old as me
That's awesome man! They cranked out a lot of units in 1985, so you should have plenty of options out there!
I'd love to find a big red
They're out there. Where have you been looking?
@@ThisOldTrike virginia
Hi, looking for a trailer hitch for a 1984 200M. Any ideas?
I do not have one for sale unfortunately. Makes me wonder if I even have one on either of my 200M's??
Great video, ggz-👽👾👍
Thank you sir!
Preston for president 2024!!! Let’s go……. like Gavin would say😂
My name is Dereck and I just got a really nice 85 125m today lol .
Awesome!! Congratulations man!
I had A 1985 250R and it was bored over .30 and it was dangerous! Didn't have it long.
Awesome video brother! I just subscribed here and hope to see more content from you. I have an 86 350x I’m trying to find a stator and pick up coil for. If anyone knows a good place to find it let me know pls. Thks👊🏻😎
Agreed on the stump guard cmp has a different look to it, hitch looks cmp also.... some dealers must have pushed that cmp stuff
Yeah, that hitch just didn't strike me as Hondaline... not nice enough...
Nasty line up. I wanted that gokart.
Thank you for the compliment brother! I'm sorry about the gokart... I know you did...
@@ThisOldTrike l got alot of karts but that was different
Where abouts are you located??
Which is more fun, the 200X or 250SX?
I personally enjoy a 250SX more. I'm sure others would say the opposite.
How much are the 1984 es big reds worth
All depends on condition and originality. The biggest value is in an unrestored, clean, all original machine. A used, good condition machine with uncracked fenders... "patina" on the tank and frame... some rust, replaced tires... wear on the racks... that is the typical condition of an 84 Big Red... that machine right now is worth about $1,750 to $2,000... but if fenders are busted up and the seat cover is ripped and the tank is dented up and rusty on the inside.... value falls fast.
Wow I have differant fenders on mine I'll have to find you on messenger send you some pics.
I would like to have a 250ri would trade for one.
Is the 350X for sale ?
Unfortunately nothing is for sale...
@@ThisOldTrike Thank you ! For the reply .
I had one of the rare 1984 blue Honda 110 s...
Yup! You definitely don't see them very often!
KILLER THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The 85/86 3 wheelers are the ones that cost them to get banded from the US.
I grew up riding a 200m man I wish I still had it I loved to catwalk it and I rolled it alot lol
Andre the Giant made the Big Red look like a regular size man on a atc 70😂😂
this has gotta be one happy man
Still Going hard with the ott-su
Yes sir... old habits die hard...
I figure since @mrc_builds still says May-er (Maier) and Oooni (UNI)... I'll say Ott-Su and not feel bad about it. lol
@@ThisOldTrike hahahah adopt my strategy....you say it how you want and I'll mispronounce it how I want to
@@ThisOldTrike poor MRC
Weird guy with a voice that puts me to sleep at night..... awesome
By that time EVERYONE was getting the ultimate evolution of three wheeler which was the 1984 Big Red anyway.
hermosas tri motos me gustan un saludo desde México
cool !!.......i had a 84....200x brand new !!
Awesome! I'll be getting to the 1984 Line Up soon. Gotta get a machine put back together first and then I'll be ready. Hopefully before the end of November.
I have a 200 but it dont have suspesing
Didnt they make a 185 or you just don't have one yet
83 was the last year of the 185s.
@@ThisOldTrike I didn't see one in the line up do you have one ?
This is just the 1985 lineup. Only machines made in 85. Check out my 185s vs. 200s comparison video and I think it will clear things up.
@@ThisOldTrike ah gotcha yeah they are damn near a 200 cus the 200s are I think like 185cm2 lol
Close! 180cc vs. 192cc. Both are rounding up!
Happy 4th!!
Right back at you sir!!
you mixed up something bud, big red introduced shaft drive in 1984 , 1983 was the last year that big reds where chain drive
Used to have a 250R two stroke. Scariest thing I rode
Yup, they're a wild ride for sure!! They absolutely RIP!
