I read on gamefaqs that one person discovered how to save the tieflings/grove, recruit her, and not have any party members leave. I know you had to kill Wyll and (?) Shadowheart and then revive them after this whole process, and a bunch of other things timed in a certain way. I’m sure there’s a video or two by now out there showing how it’s done.
I wish Halsin would react to her presence once she is recruited. It still doesn't feel official when she joins the party. 4-5 sentence dialogue to choose which one to keep or even better-Have them both.
Developers should really add an option to capture Minthara if you bait her to druid grove and side with defenders. Those who played the evil playthrough know she's quite a different person once she spends some time near you under the protection of the artefact. She could then easily see the Absolute as an enemy and join your party.
I dont agree. The hard choice you make to be able to recruit her is the first stepping stone in your evil playthrough, being able to recruit her anyway would, in my opinion, deminish the weight of that choice.
@@nikollasassumpcao8006 The issue is all the content you lose to gain her has nothing to match it. You lose 2 questlines in Wyll and Karlach with a possibly third in Gale if you can't convince him to stay. You lose all the content that the tieflings give you in both act 1 and act 2. You lose a bunch of items that have no counterpart. You lose to much with only gaining a single companion and her questline, that is still bugged might I add. If Larian refuses to add evil counterparts to what we lose, I think its fair that we should recruit her and turn her against the cult of the absolute.
I do find it weird that you can manipulate Nere after you rescue him into a abandoning the absolute but there's nothing you can do for Mintharu in the same vein
and then nere just leaves instead of getting the option to recruit him. would be nice for an evil run. but yes it also begs to question how long does it take for the artefact to take hold over the absolute. so with minthara, one talk is obviously not enough. the game also prob just expects you to not stay around long enough until the party at your camp. with nere, he mentions it after the fight. so i prob doesn't take that long at all. maybe it is an instant effect but the absolute prob doesn't talk to them for every waking moment. so if the voice is silent for a view minutes, they wont bother but when it is happening for a little longer, they start to question things. this would bring it in line, both for minthara and for nere and why every true soul doesn't question their life choices just because you talk to them for 5min
Nere reverts to Lolth worship, but apostasy is punished by death so either his people kills him or the Absolute will order it He doesn't just defect but face his fate
Worst thing is, she's not exactly wrong. I've seen plenty of reddit posts or facebook comments from people who didn't know she was recruitable. If it wasn't for forums like Reddit where information like that is easily shared, plenty of people would've played through the entire game not knowing she was anything other than just a minor boss enemy. Hell, if it wasn't for the fanwiki or reddit I would've forgotten her name completely before I even left the Goblin stronghold.
Yeah I killed her thinking she was just a regular boss, then when I was looting I was like "wait.... what's with all this clothes.. OOOOhhhhhhhhhhhhh oh nooo..." She'll be remembered as the optional companion I killed
I’m sorry, I got sad when I saw this clip and downloaded that mod where she flees when she fights you at either boss fight and stays in the story. Minthara deserves a redemption arc.
I know people want to recruit her while playing strictly good, but her redemption from evil mirroring your own is what makes her character. I think it’s great, and adds a lot to the character
Maybe, but it makes little sense that you manage to knock her out (something you can do) and somehow she dies anyway, because of lol. Well, maybe because of Lolth.
Well, a lot of people (including myself) don't have the stomach to do kill the tieflings. So most of the time, she just becomes wasted content. Also, even then, she's apparently broken half of the time.
My major complaint is that the evil path just doesn't make sense. You know you are infected with a tadpole, you know the tadpole is connected to the goblin camp and true souls, and you know they want to take the prism which will enslave you early on in act 1. So the evil path is just "I should help the people who want to enslave me, to enslave me", and that's the only way to get Minthara. That on top of the fact that you either lose 3 other companions to get 1, or you skip an entire quest line in act 1 to kinda bug the game out to get her, and you still lose a companion, and a quest line in act 2.
This video needs not only more views, but more likes. This is a stellar example of the absolutely phenomenal work Larian Studios has delivered to all of us.
Pretty cool to see dialogue I’ll never get. I don’t like playing evil characters, so it is ordained that she is getting sent to the shadow realm every playthrough, usually via Lump and his Goons.

Strange how you can only recruit her by commiting a horrific action, one that she herself doesn'y agree with. Surly once free of the control she should be like yo wtf did you do that for.
I like it this way. It sucks, but it mirrors real life. No matter what you do or how hard you try, you can never make all the people happy all the time. There are always choices and sacrifices we have to make. There is no "perfect"
I still think Larian missed the mark when they gave us the option to knock people out, yet treats it like we killed them. Like imagine knocking everyone out, ending up having either that much more ennemies coming back later on or some of them becoming friends. The real offset is that knocking people out doesn't reward you xp or at least halves the rewards for it. I'd see that as I great way to spare minthara and save the grove. Having her genuine emotions of feeling betrayed by the cult and actually grateful for the opportunity you gave her.
@@francois9018I agree, We can knock out certain someone in act 3 and they would join you as companion. It's not implement for this drow though. And to raid the groove while she's on mind control only to get really conflicted at what she did really sucks.

This dialogue is one of my favorite sequences in the game. And it is because it hits hard as a player - though objectively it has less character-level impact. As the player, you know how many times you've just mowed her down and if you plan to play multiple characters, how many times you'll be mowing her down in the future. But for this character, this play through -- you got me Minthara, you got me. I see you.
It hurts cause I know soo many people just killed her like any other boss. I always recruit her from Moonrise, ever since my first playthrough. Minthara deserves better, I really wish Larian would have a path for us to save her and the Tieflings.
To all of the Minthara simps who want her as a companion and want to be good then here is how. Save Sazza and then talk to Minthara. Agree to attack the Grove and then never go back to the Grove. When you get to Moonlight Towers you can recruit her as if you had burned the Grove to the ground.
Another plus point for Minthara is, that she knows exactly that Lolth is just as bad as Bhaal and the Absolute. Not many Drow would say that openly besides her and Drizzt.
So here’s a thought: if she shows up in Act 2 even if you skip the goblin camp, what if you went the Lae’zel route, and beelined it to the mountain pass after talking to Zorru without involving yourself in the Grove’s problems? In that sense, you’re not being evil, just practical: you’ve got a mindflayer parasite in your head and this gith claims to have a cure, but you need to act fast before you turn. Sure, you’d miss out on a lot of content, but it does seem to be an intended path.
Yep, but i think if you do that, the raid happens anyway, and probably karlach and wyll will be pissed that you chose to not help the grove and might even leave the party (i didnt try what you said yet, im just theory crafting) and minthara would still show up in act 2 like before, but since you did not met her, i dont know if you would be able to recruit her
@@nikollasassumpcao8006 wyll and karlach only leave when you directly attack the grove. if you ignore the goblin/grove quest and do other side stuff and then go to moonrise, you get to keep wyll and karlach and recruit minthara. all 3 have lines to say about each other so it's def not a glitch. the only one you lose is halsin
I do love the update, as I have Karlach, Minthara, Wyll, and Halsin at my camp. Her role in act 2 is quite satisfying, especially if you’ve got her in your party at the end of the boss fight of act 2

I'd kill everyone for Minthara. Karlach tugged at my heartstrings in the first playhtrough so I thought I'd try to bring her along and "save" her again, but she wouldn't have it after I levelled the grove. Gale only came along because I won a dice roll I had with him. Shadowshart and Lae'zel doesn't mind, and Minthara has some nice words for both of them. I never understood what people meant when they "waifu" a character, until I met Minthara.
And an option to simply say to her: I love you, my Minthara...
I'm happy that developers added a possibility to recruit her while saving druids, cause no matter how many times i tried to do an evil run I'm dropping it around start of the act 2.
Heartbreaking. I slaughtered her with her goblins and never found any sort of way to avoid it so damn. Not sure I can stomach an evil playthrough to get her tho.
Tbh most of the druids kinda suck. The Tieflings alone, have made me not be able to commit to the genocide. Alfira, Zelvor, Gigachad Dammon, Mol, Silfy, Arabella and ofc KARLACH...they're all too endearing for me to be the *direct* cause of their deaths. Even through inaction I'd feel guilty. Hopefully I can work up the courage after finishing my "good" playthrough.🤞
If you wana do an evil playthrough wihtout feeling bad for the tieflings play as a drow. Racist TIeflings/Druids while you get invited by the goblins as their leader and respected by minthara even in the first dialogue. Also fuck them tiefling kids
There should be an option to "lead" the goblin attack. But then everyone helps you ambush her. Then she joins your party after you kill all the goblins. Or something along those lines
It really sucks that there is no way of recruiting her unless you do the evil or completely skip that act 1 quest. She's such a good character and even Durge can have a redemption arch why not her :C
she can have a redemption together with your tav charakter. do the evil route in act 1 for whatever reason you come up with. see the wrong in your ways and try to redeem yourself in act2 while taking minthara along for the ride. works great for durge imho. in act1, you are more loose about your urges until you see what horror these urges can summon upon those close to you and how some even turn their backs on you. so you try to better yourself with the other moraly grey companions at your side.
i am aware of the redemption route it just feels weird that with ALL that we can influence in this world we can't go up to her and be like "hey you are basically being mindcontrolled" and get her without slaughtering basically a quarter of the NPC cast. Uhm... little confused but you got the spirit... I suppose
What a fantastic piece of voice work. Came in blind, and walked away shaken.
Her actor is such an incredible talent. What a diamond hidden in the rough she is for any player willing to play to have her in their party
Don't worry, Minthara, my character was remembering you till the end of the game, especially in the camp. Nice clothing you drop.
Lol , I'm using her camp clothing on my character too
@@odysseus9797 my char is Paladin of Vengeance Drow, so I feel like I have recruited Minthara in a way.
i have her body stashed in the camp lol
@@anxietydisorders5917Yoooo I thought I was the only one who did that. I only realised I could have her as a companion after I killed her and have had her body with me since
Let me guess, a male orc barbarian?
I feel bad, but she was going to genocide the tieflings and druids at the grove and kill Halsin. I'm sorry, but I can't do that to my mans.
I wish in the next updates to dedicate a bit more to allow players to get her without going for the bad route
@@TheImaggine Maybe if you trick her into leaving the goblin fort, and then defeat her in the defence, you get the option to send her fleeing, instead of killing her.
@@TheImagginething is, there is no real bad route. You only loose content by raiding the grove. Aside from minthara.
But the genocide of the goblins is cool because they aren't so cute?
Holy shit the voice actors did such a good job in this game.
I know right!
She's still a drow. Screw her 🤷♂
Yep, unfortunately we'll probably never get that option.
I dont agree. The hard choice you make to be able to recruit her is the first stepping stone in your evil playthrough, being able to recruit her anyway would, in my opinion, deminish the weight of that choice.
The fact you have to game the system to unlock her is just insane. Thank god Regill came free in WOTR
Minthara is an unredeemable awful person.
Minthara: 'Sad puppy face'
Goddamnit. I forgive you
I absolutely love how emotive and expressive the characters are in this game
I think Minthara is the best (or at least my favorite) companion because she is literally definition of "Boss as a playable character" but better
I do find it weird that you can manipulate Nere after you rescue him into a abandoning the absolute but there's nothing you can do for Mintharu in the same vein
and then nere just leaves instead of getting the option to recruit him. would be nice for an evil run.
but yes it also begs to question how long does it take for the artefact to take hold over the absolute. so with minthara, one talk is obviously not enough. the game also prob just expects you to not stay around long enough until the party at your camp. with nere, he mentions it after the fight. so i prob doesn't take that long at all. maybe it is an instant effect but the absolute prob doesn't talk to them for every waking moment. so if the voice is silent for a view minutes, they wont bother but when it is happening for a little longer, they start to question things. this would bring it in line, both for minthara and for nere and why every true soul doesn't question their life choices just because you talk to them for 5min
never got intimate with Nere, but for a while there Minthara thought my penis silenced the Absolute
Nere reverts to Lolth worship, but apostasy is punished by death so either his people kills him or the Absolute will order it
He doesn't just defect but face his fate
The fact she has ingredients and camp supply bags on her corpse should clue people in, though
@@JudeFergy "no one would remember me"
I’m sorry, I got sad when I saw this clip and downloaded that mod where she flees when she fights you at either boss fight and stays in the story. Minthara deserves a redemption arc.
Minthara is my absolute Sweetheart. Not just her smites make me smile every day. The veeeeery hard shell, with the very soft soul once you broke her ❤
I know people want to recruit her while playing strictly good, but her redemption from evil mirroring your own is what makes her character. I think it’s great, and adds a lot to the character
She isnt redeemed. Shes still a drow who will eradicate anyone who gets in her way. Shes just no longer mind controlled.
Except the fact that the evil path has a remarkable lack of content that is notmade up for by just Minthara
Noooooo i would remember you Minthara i promise, not the puppy eyes 😭😭😭
She never survived my encounters with her... So this is new to me.
Being away from Menzoberanzan actually did her good. Rare for Lolth clerics.

0:34 this is surprisingly deep as it is very true. Most would have just killed her in their first playthrough as she was just another boss to take out. But when you find out not only can you recruit her, but she actually has layers to her character...damn.
Can never get enough minthara videos. The best character. So much depth to her personality and opinions. It’s so difficult for me to kill her on subsequent playthroughs because I love her so much. Minthara is bae
I'm probally gonna start skipping the drow camp or probally install Daughter of Loth
The voice acting is really brilliant. The feeling in this delivery is just so... damn.

Strange how you can only recruit her by commiting a horrific action, one that she herself doesn'y agree with. Surly once free of the control she should be like yo wtf did you do that for.

For the glory of The Absolute, of course!
I like it this way. It sucks, but it mirrors real life. No matter what you do or how hard you try, you can never make all the people happy all the time. There are always choices and sacrifices we have to make. There is no "perfect"
@@oddbychoice6105a flying brain bro?

When she gives those sad puppydrow eyes: 🥺🥺🥺
This dialogue is one of my favorite sequences in the game. And it is because it hits hard as a player - though objectively it has less character-level impact. As the player, you know how many times you've just mowed her down and if you plan to play multiple characters, how many times you'll be mowing her down in the future. But for this character, this play through -- you got me Minthara, you got me. I see you.
This drow can talk? And be a companion? I eldritch blasted her in the face so fast I didnt even know she had voice lines.

It hurts cause I know soo many people just killed her like any other boss. I always recruit her from Moonrise, ever since my first playthrough. Minthara deserves better, I really wish Larian would have a path for us to save her and the Tieflings.
But there is a patch look on google
Ngl She was the first victim of the the Tav / Karlach dual monk wombo combo jumping.
Bruh I just threw her off the bridge my first run. Didn’t even realize she had a whole companion arc 💀
She was Leandra in divinity original sin 1, that voice i can't forget
Minthy is with me every playthrough 🫡
Emma Gregory is such a good voice actress!
She's one of the best characters in the game. Only thing that holds her back is the lack of content.
True. As a Minthara Stan she is missing a lot of content. There's not really anything for her to do in Act 3 if you're not Romancing her as Durge
The trembling in her voice when she says that makes me tear up.
SHE SHOULD BE AN ORIGIN CHARACTER
I KNOW RIGHT!
I really can't bring myself to hate any Drow in the DnD setting after learning about their history, they are so fucked thanks to Lolth its insane.

It sucks that her entire storyline is bugged, a massive chunk of it is blocked so when they fix that I’ll be happy to slaughter them tieflings
I..I kinda feel bad for stacking 5 barrels on her now -_-
I'd kill everyone for Minthara.

A self-reflection that only took the murder of countless innocent Tieflings and Druids... Totally worth it.
She's right but also not worthy of my tears. She's in a box at my camp.
What incredible story telling. Larian Studios, what a gem you have given us.
There should be an option to "lead" the goblin attack. But then everyone helps you ambush her. Then she joins your party after you kill all the goblins. Or something along those lines
"And nobody would remember me." So sad...
Say it with me everyone.
I! CAN! FIX! HER!
Like ffs i lost count i many characters i convinced to basically off themself instead of fighting me, is it so unthinkable we can't get her to adjust her aliances a bit earlier. If anything not making her despawn if you non lethal her@@calronkeltaran493

Can we just go ahead and put this up there as one of the best scenes in gaming? Genuinely this on the level of classic cinema good dialogue. The detail philosophy of the then vs now alongside the straight to the point poetics just hits so well.
I do not think a game has impressed me as much as BG3 has with it's dialogue and characters.
