I appreciate your efforts to share your knowledge. I am about to embark on a similar project on my 1995 B 3500 Ram Van. Since this particular Dodge platform had a production spanning three decades, I figure my ham-handed efforts are unlikely to hurt it. Thanks for the guidance.

I love it! I hope you share your progress, I'd love to see it! I had similar thoughts: very common vehicle, lots of parts, robust support. Good luck!

This is awesome! Left my 1992 B350 5.9 sitting for a month in the rain and I got the usual startup belt squeals but they were different this time.....much louder and persistent, even when she was all dry. I'm nervous that either my alternator or AC compressor seized....but of course hoping it's just the belts...this video is helpful in so many ways. Thanks for making it!
Update: When I run the engine, alternator pulley is not moving, so I sprayed the twin v belts with 303 and sprayed the alternator with WD40 in case the stator was seized, then took a breaker bar with 7/8" and wiggled the pulley back and forth to loosen it up. Belts still slide right over the pulley so they might be too loose or worn down at this point, so looking to buy replacement twin v belts.

Thanks for the kind words, Nick! Keep at it, you'll get it figured! It does sound to me though that your alternator might need a rebuild or replacement. I had that happen on another vehicle where the alternator wouldn't turn for love nor money and it burned the belt up. Let me know how it goes!

Great video! Just what I needed to see. I have a 1992 same model that needs the same repairs.

Thanks, Joe! As you saw, it's not a hard job at all - these vans are great to work on

I got mine about 3 yrs ago with only 75,000 miles on it. Used as my work van, and now I’m turning it into a camper van. It’s got a 2’ tall topper on it. It rides so smooth and comfortable down the road and I haven’t had a bit of problems with it. So I’m going to start putting some time $ in it. I can’t see getting anything else that’ll do what this can. Gas mileage is a low though. But what the heck. First time I saw a video of yours and you’re really good at explaining what’s going on. And a little dose of humor! Thanks.

So jealous! 75k miles? It's brand new! But yeah, these are big engines and thirsty ones as well! Next year I'll be converting her to the Cummins R2.8 diesel ... gotta save a lot of pennies up first!

Finally! An alternator bracket setup that looks exactly like mine (mine is ‘92 B350 5.9L)! Any chance you could measure the bolt spacing on yours and let me know? I’m replacing mine, weird problem…seems like the new one has different bolt spacing (7.5” on center) than the brackets (6 3/4” on center, from measuring space between brackets). My old one was traded as a core, I spent an hour trying to fit this new one and just had an epiphany that the new one seems to have the wrong bolt spacing!!

Hey Priusjames! Did you mean the alternator bolt spacing? If so, keep in mind that these vans came with three different types of alternator as far as I know: the standard 75amp or 90amp alternator and a heavy duty 120amp alternator. Mine's a 120amp alternator and it's 7.3" bolt spacing. I think the case diameter is 5 3/8" where the smaller alternators are around 5"

Awesome video, very informative and great commentary.
    I have a 1987 dodge ram b250 5.2 v8, up in Canada eh!
Wondering who/where is your go-to for ordering parts?
My alternator is charging but not as it should, and is causing my batteries to discharge while driving.

Thanks for the kind words! Yeah, getting parts for these old vans are challenging! If I have the time, as in I can wait for the part, I usually order from Rock Auto. They have a good supply of the common stuff still. Otherwise, I try to get through either Lordco or Napa. Sometimes Amazon has the parts I'm looking for (just got a left brake caliper from Amazon.ca for $70, which is still pretty good). For your alternator, test your battery with a volt meter with the engine off and again with the engine on. It should go up to around 13.8v - 14.5v when running. Also check your belts - if they slip, they'll struggle when the alternator is trying to generate a lot of amps, like just after starting.

Hey, Im wondering if you have a wiring diagram for this engine? The alternator doesnt charge the batteries, and i have no clue what wires go where. Much appretiated,
