Is .028 okay for a completely stock 10th gen non si turbo? Or is it better to keep it at .030? (I know stock is .032 but want to "future proof" it incase I ever tune it.)
Thoughts?
I did this job to my 2018 Civic Si and it only took me like 10 minutes! this motor is insanely easy to work on. The previous owner took the car to a basic automotive repair shop to do his last spark plug change. When I removed the old plugs that the shop had installed I saw that they were the incorrect plugs for this car, they were for a 9th gen civic, none Si. i'm surprised the car was running with them in there. but there were no codes or misfires. when I installed the correct plugs I noticed a significant increase in power immediately.
There are lots of things that affect how much you should gap your plugs when modifying your car. Great video guys! Always come in clutch when I have questions regarding my Honda💪🏼 also PSA!!!! I used to work at an Autozone Distribution Center and everyone there tosses parts into order baskets so even if the spark plugs come pre gapped, always…. ALWAYS check the gap before installing because some 18 year old at a warehouse will toss your new spark plugs into a basket and can bend the original gapping! If you want things done right, do your research and DO IT YOURSELF !!
Thanks for showing you are awesome.
hell yeah !!! i did my v6 3.7 liter jeep and it sucked hardcore cause no space to work !! but my civic will be hella eazy yo!!! awesome video !!!!!
Thanks for the video !
It’s really smart job
My honda civic has 53k miles on it and noticed my fuel dropping bit quick and i don't drive too aggressive and do worn spark plugs consume fuel more? What's the part number for spark plugs for ngk for 2017 Honda Civic hatchback sport turbo?
My car is non-si model, I bought wrong model as si model, does Si model could use for non-si model sir ? 😅
На каком пробеге менял свечи зажигания?
I got prl flex fuel kit w/ tsp tune, prl dp, prl cai w/ race maf, prl intercooler w/ charge pipes, greddy exhaust . Car is only almost hitting 9k miles on it. Do i need to replace the stock ones? Just to make it sure before i order to you
I think checking your current plugs will give you the answer. If they're in decent shape still, it's worth keeping them. But maybe just have a set on hand to go in whenever you're ready.
Can I clean and do that to factory sparks? setting it to 27 makes the spark stronger?
These are actually the stock plugs so yes, you can do it. I've never cleaned a set of plugs, I always just replace them since they're relatively inexpensive. Gapping them down could potentially make the spark weaker, but it also prevents the spark from "blowing out" because of the amount of air and cylinder pressure created from more boost and more airflow. So it's the concept of just making sure it sparks, not necessarily make the spark stronger. But don't gap too low, because it can weaken the spark too much.
Quick little question. My 18 si only has a PRL cold air intake no tune. Would you still recommended change the plugs around every oil change ?
How often are you changing your oil?
Around every 5k miles
You don't need to change them that often. I'd say maybe 10-15k miles and you could go even further than that probably.
You definitely don't need to change the plugs often. Especially not every oil change. Plugs can go 50-100k on a stock motor.
Hello, so if my Si is completely stock and just running a TSP stage 1 tune 30 should be okay or do I need to go lower?
You should be okay!
@@EdgeAutosport Thank you for the reply!
hey man, my 10th gen civic SI hesistates during wot at between 4.8-6k rpm. Could it be foul plugs? 40,000 KM mileage
Blown head gasket lol
I have the phearable tune with a catless down pipe muffler delete and prl intake should I put them to 28
You might be able to keep them stock but it just depends how the car runs. Stock gap is .032 IIRC so taking them to .028 is a decent jump. You probably don't need to do that for your mods. But it really just depends on what the car likes
EDIT: the .032 is the non-Si, .030 is the Si (factory specs at least). So if you have an Si and are running higher boost, .028 would probably be fine for what you're doing.
Hey brotha I had a quick question . I am at 48k almost 50k and I’ve been running e85 for about a year now I will be changing them out tomorrow but before I do. Should I gap them at 27?
If you're running anything more aggressive than a stock boost level, you can gap them to .027, that should work well.
Edge Autosport great thanks so much ? And also can you show the gains for the injen intercooler
Hey man, I added Lucas fuel injector cleaner to my new Si without realizing that could foul the plugs and now I've been experiencing slow start up and loss of power at high RPMs.
I should definitely change the plugs first, right?
I would definitely inspect them at the least. If they don't look good, it would be good the change them.
Hey man. We’re those stock plugs Denso or NGK? Just curious.
Stock plugs are NGK

Closer to stock is better if your car is stock. Plugs don't really need to be future proof as they are in expensive and easy to swap when you decide to tune later, better to have things run optimally until then.
Hi I have a question my name is josh I have the same car 2017 si coupe, I’m running e37 blend with hondata tune +6 psi , what do you recommend for the gap? I have 40k I haven’t changed them yet
We just gapped ours to about .027 if I remember right. Seems to be working well for us so far and we were on the dyno today with some really cool air hitting 23psi.
Also, is it just off the shelf or is it tuned specifically for the ethanol content?
It’s off the self it’s a kit that comes with hondata
The The hondata comes with preset maps but no specific tune for 85 as in no specific percentage for e85.
@@Jyuaa I suggest considering some custom tuning for the ethanol content. There should be a lot left on the table. Let us know if you'd like to do that, send an email to tuning@edgeautosport.com
Just an idea, why not put the 27 measurement on the spark plug and push it down with it on so you can set at 27 instantly
That's generally not how you set clearances, you adjust and then measure so the tool doesn't influence the adjustment or damage the electrode. Same goes for valve lash and bearing clearances
I have a 2018 si coupe and evertime i start my car the engine light starts flashing whats wrong please help
Well first things first, you need to read active codes with an OBD2/Ktuner/Hondata and see what it is, it could be anything
what if i change the spark ignition coil?
What is your question?
Sorry, i mean how about if i upgrade the ignition coil like holley msd for civic? And which better upgrade the plug or the ignition coil?
Can I put fake spark plugs on my honda from ebay 🤔
Aren’t spark plugs gaped already for the car...
Yes but if you have different modifications, different boost levels, different fueling strategies, those might call for different gaps.
No anti seize ? Or dielectric ?
We don't use anything on spark plugs.
Edge Autosport thanks for the response
Placing some dielectric into the Coil Boots will make for an easier uninstall the next time around.
Do need to put antisezee on spark plug threads?
I've seen people do that, but I don't think it's 100% necessary with plugs.
don't they come pre gapped
Yes, but it's wise to always square up the gap when you get new plugs, or at least check them to make sure you didn't get one that's too far off.
Come on JP....no "torque spec"? You're better than that bud.
