Thank you for the video, sharing how to grow Italian cypress seeds. It is very useful 🙏 Today is the day to start my experiment in Chiang Mai, Thailand. 🇹🇭 I hope it will be as successful as in your video😊
I've just purchased some seeds, and the growing and stratification instructions are crazy. Im trying several methods, and I'm definitely going to try yours. Did you do a warm stratification beforehand, or was thay just the period to get the cone to break open?
Hello, the warm stratification is needed only for the cone to open. Afterward, you can stratify them in cold having for 1 or 2 weeks in the fridge. But bear in mind that for the ITA Cypress the cold stratification is not necessary, just a good practice 😊
@howtogrowfromseed Thank you so much for taking the time to respond! Ive managed to get my hands on some Monterey Cyprus seeds as well. My gut feel is that the method should be more or less the same for that as well? Well, I'm hoping so. Can't wait to try your method.
Many thanks. If you use the small compostable pot like the one of the video, I would suggest after 3/4 months max. If you use a bigger pot it can stay in there until the roots need more space. It depends from the growth of your tree, you start to feel it when it needs a bigger pot.
Will transferring to a bigger container help speed growth? Would putting them in 5 gallon container after 2 years help boost growth even more? Is it possible to transplant into 5 gallon after first year or can it be too big too fast? Fascinated by your videos thank you
Hi Skynet! Many thanks for your comment! I would suggest to transfer into a 5 gallon container after the second or third year, just because a lot of space would be wasted! But if you don’t mind having a small tree in a big container just do it. I would suggest to add perlite to ease roots growth when you transfer it from one container to the other. ✌🏼
I’m trying to cold stratify around 3000 seeds. Hopefully I can get around 500 sprouts. Within a year if they can reach 1 foot I’ll start a small business and cycle out. Does the temperature change affect the growth rate?
Hi Marc, yes it does make a difference, they need a temperature above 20C/68 F to easily sprout. Years ago I tried to sprout them in winter and I got no sprouts. I usually put them in the paper from March/April onward, being September the last useful month. This of course if you live in the north hemisphere.
@@howtogrowfromseed I live in the Caribbean. Fortunately, it’s always sunny. My research states it can possibly reach 2 to 3 feet year considering favorable conditions. Also, what has your germination rate been?
@@marcp4389 in that case you are lucky enough to have it growing around 2 feet per year. Good luck with it! If you want you can share your progress with the Facebook group 😊🤞🏼

Thanks for posting. I have Italian Cypresses in my yard, but haven't had much luck growing from seeds. You've inspired me to try again!
Wow, great result 👍🏻
Thank you! Cheers!😊

@@ismailsallie9190 I haven't tried on those TBH, but I hope so
Great video as always. They're really helpful.
How long after planting the sprouted seed do you wait to repot?

they have to grow fast since they are 1 of the most fire tolerant trees known

Hello, do you know how long for Cypress trees to form branches? Thank you for your time, in advance!
Hi, from seed it takes at least a couple of months. ✌
@@howtogrowfromseed ahh, thank you!
