I have been watching the Green Fruit on the Italian Cypress, so I came in to find out if I can grow some! Thank you, I will watch for the Pods to Mature! This is my next Adventure to try in the Garden!
Excellent thank you. Watching with my three year old. We just found some of these pods and now we have a project to do together. Thanks for breaking it all down for us
Hi, i did the exact same as you but i removed the "cones" from the tree when they were still green, accidently left them in my car and due to heat from the sun when i park my car outside the "cones" opened by themselves. i put the seeds in a wet tissue just like you did but i did not put them in the fridge. After around 3 weeks i 10 have already germinated but there is much more left. will the germination rate increase if i leave them 30 days in the fridge? i always try to sow the seeds when i see the tiny root coming out of the seed. what is was your success rate of each seed in the video? thanks for the video, look forward to your reply.
@@spencersnursery1547 my greenhouse has blew over this morning and lost a few pots 😥 need to secure it down better.. I've used some odd rocks and wood at the moment

oh dear. I collected some cypress pine seeds, a different type though, they have arching branches like a normal tree. But I researched and read you're supposed to plant the seeds in Spring without stratifying them, so that's what I did. Do you think there's any chance they will sprout anyway? or sprout after next winter?
Depends on the type of cypress most branch out,you could topiary it if you want.some people say you dont need to overwinter them but it is best to as it gives you a better success rate especially if the seeds are from a climate with winter that they have adapted to.aslong as you dont let them rot you should be fine.hope this helps
Spencer's Nursery thank you so much for replying. I did some research and they are Monterey Cypress pines. do you know how long the seeds are good for? I planted half of the seeds this spring. If I planted the other half next winter to allow them to stratify will it be OK? thank you so much for your help!
@@CapAwesome I planted the seeds a couple of times, and I can't remember which time the above comment was. But I know i planted some in autumn and got 1 seed to sprout out of probably 50. Then a year later I planted probably another 50 and got 1 to sprout that later died. So my conclusion would be, definitely stratify them, and collect as many seeds as you can, expecting a low germination rate. But you know, these things can vary for unknown reasons so you might have more success than me!
Do you have to wait for the acorn to dry out and crack open? We pulled some green ones off the tree and cut into it with a knife to take the seeds out, which was quite difficult. It's been about 10 days and I don't see any sprouting yet. Wondering if the seeds were premature, or maybe just need to wait a bit longer.
@@bluewingscenary nothing really. The seeds I cracked out manually were duds. So I put the rest outside in the hot sun & dried out the other acorns. They cracked open naturally so I emptied all the seeds in a bag. I still assume they’re not gonna work but will try sprouting in fall.
@@AliBabaZumba He mentions at the 1.10 mark something about after they are green but before they open on their own. It sounds like you left it a bit too long to get the seeds.
Well it depends on where you are in the world as it's different everywhere. Just look out for when the cones are brown and they should be good.thanks for watching
Hi! I live in the southern Europe and the winter has just begun here. Can I just put the seeds in the container and leave it outside instead of the fridge? Will it sprout naturally in the spring? Thank you in advance.
Seems like a lot a work with checking often for germination. I saw a better alternative where a guy also did the paper towel method, but placed the paper towel in a seal plastic container with holes punctured in the top. Seeds germinated within 10 days! Have you tried that method?
Hi, forgot to change the napkin and they got proper moldy. Is there a chance they will still grow? I put the seeds in pots. Have been waiting for over a month.
Thank you, I have my seeds from Israel's vacation!! 🌿🤗❤️

Inspiring young man - keep up the good work - will go to stratify my cyprus seeds now so they are ready for germination come march :)

Great video ! Thanks ! One question: the fridge dries out the paper towel in a few days. Should I re wet the paper when that happens ?

Do they have a dormancy period
Probably split when there is no visable fresh growth.hope this helps

How long does it take from seed to reach one meter ?
Also do you have any tips for trimming italian cypress trees ?

Exactly. I have tried everything. Nobody in the comment section has successfully managed to grow a tree including the guy in the video.
What season does the cypress trees grow the seeds?
How often should I water the seedling?
Thankyou

I thought trees need water?? So.. Do I water them or not
Do u know how to grow cypress tree cuttings?

How do you get the seeds out of the ball?
How much water does it need after planting seeds in tray?
Does it require watering daily?
If it starts to look dry give a very light watering.
