    As someone who owns one of these, I will say the sport+ handling is fantastic. I've taken it to the tail of the dragon and it was a lot of fun for the size of this vehicle. While also having the seats massaging and an amazing sound system. This SUV is wonderful

      Your averaging 20+ mpg? Or under? I want to trade in my MDX Hybrid for one but the mpg is what's holding me back. I had a mdx advance non type s for a loaner and I was averaging 17mpg lol

      @@bbbt8090Hold on to your hybrid. 325hp, 0-60 in 5.6 sec. Top speed 133mph as opposed to the S -type top speed 112mph. And with all that your probably averaging at least 25mpg. And you paid $20,000 less for it. Seems like a no-brainer.

      @@bbbt8090I have a base 23 and average 18-19 not driving like a 90 lady. But, the worst part is I have to fill up every almost 200 miles because the tank is too small. If I maxed it out to empty it's about 300 miles. The tank is too small at 18.5. It needs larger tank. The type s probably gets a range of 250. Honestly, even my base does drive awesome though. Love it. I've driven the type s too. They just need a better tune and larger tank.

    I have 3 toddlers and the space is perfect for that application using 3 rows.
    The smaller footprint in length is an added benefit when parking and getting around town.
    I also appreciate being able to remove the middle seat in the 2nd row changing them to captain chairs.
    Lastly, The ergonomics with mostly physical bottoms is excellent and hard to find in today’s screen biased car designs. It’s safer and quicker especially driving windy roads like in your review.
    I traded in my X7 for the Type S Adv and I am much happier and satisfied.

  • @BarnabeeJones
    @BarnabeeJones 4 місяці тому +22

    Bought a Type S Adv after cross shopping it mostly with the Q7 and X7. Compared to those, the value for money is obvious - the MDX and Q7 are about the same when it comes to utility and space, but you need to step up to the Prestige 55 with the lux pack to match the equipment list on the Type-S, which puts it well into the mid-80's. As for the X7, it feels a little roomier inside for sure, but equipped the same, now we're in the mid-90's. And that's before we talk about maintenance costs, reliability etc. It's not perfect; the transmission tuning needs work and she likes premium unleaded, but overall I'm pretty happy. And I took it up Harts Pass in the North Cascades without much drama, so it can do the occasional forest road when needed.

The 3rd row gets plenty of use without complaints and it able to carry everything we thrown at it so far. I love the way it sounds , handles and drives, its really fun! We have the 2022 Stype. Not the advanced. Love it. The red leather stays clean, even with 3 dogs. We adjusted to the no touch screen quickly. Handles great in snow. So much fun to drive on curvy roads. Only complaint is that Acura wants all the different fluids "flushed" way too often. Our previous Infiniti didn't have that nonsense.

    I love how much this car offers so much for the money when compared to its German competitors like the BMW X5 and Audi Q7. To even get amenities like a V6 and massage seats you would have to pay well over $85k. Acura’s SH-AWD is crazy good, on par with Audi’s Quattro drive engine. Downside would be the fuel economy and no touchscreen infotainment system.

      True, I’ve driven this it drives amazing like truly impressive… then I test drove an x5 … I bought that 😅. Like listen , I would just say don’t drive the x5 if you don’t want to see why the 10k is worth it cus if you like driving dynamics and power delivery you will feel the difference. For perspective though an equivalent spec x5 to the type s would be the m60 x5 that’s a v8 with nearly twice the power… and two more cylinders for 15k more. Power wise, a based x5 has the same power as this top spec mdx so it really is a better value than what I bought I’ll concede that for sure but wooooooo the way it drives anddddd the way it handles my farm and the mud too just sayin it is a slightly different next level beast. I have owned a RDX and TL Type S and I’ve really liked how much effort Acura has put into this generation MDX. The last generation was to similar to the Pilot. I really wish Acura would bring back the hybrid tech that they borrowed from the NSX.
    The design is beautiful. I really think the only area hurts is not having touch screen. The touch pad isn’t intuitive, and the issue is that people use Apple CarPlay the most. I get people say they’ll get used to it… but you shouldn’t have to get “used” to it. I also think that it defeats the purpose when you go to Apple CarPlay since it becomes a pad.
    Lastly- I just watched Throttle House’s review of the new Lexus. I really, really wish Acura would bring back the “SLX”. Imagine for a second if Acura took its SHAWD, gave it a boxier body, skid plates, kept the luxury items and made an off road. Similar to a Pilot but just much nicer. The market is there for those type of SUVs. Wishful thinking.

      NVM that car manufacturers are selling to naive people like you as "modern" when in reality it's a massive cost cutting measure as screens + software are cheaper than custom buttons....
      As far as the GX (and Land Cruiser for that matter) Honda KNOWS that 90% of people buying SUVs (esp. women who make 65% of car buying decisions) just use them as minivan replacements, not off-roaders. So they designed a vehicle that meets that exact need. Round peg in a round hole, which is why it's been such a huge hit.

    I am loving this car but I have to say as a Mechanic, thats not good if the car shuts off the engine when you open the hood. If your doing diagnostic work how are you supposed to do that then? lol Also, im sure thats going to cause a ton of problems in the future as well, I can just see it now. Whatever kind of sensor they have hooked up to that to detect the hood is open, if it goes bad does that mean you wont be able to start the engine? questions to Acura that need to be asked.

      As a "Mechanic", you should know that a lot of modern cars have service modes accessed via a bi-direction scan tool..... You are not even supposed to put cars with air suspensions (esp. w/auto leveling) on lifts before entering service mode or you will damage the suspension.

    • @roberthutson2023
      @roberthutson2023 4 місяці тому

      @@ckm-mkc Yeah I know about the air suspension and not putting them on lifts without it being properly configured but my thing was the engine shutting off and what does having to be a "Mechanic" have to do with knowing or not knowing about service modes? Did I ever state I was a mechanic that fixed cars all day no I didnt! I just said as being a mechanic more specifically a bus mechanic and also car mechanic in previous work, and the fact that I still do my own work on my cars and family. I am just making a point that I could see that becoming an issue, not just for working on it but if that sensor goes bad your car will stranded because its going to think the hood is open. Also, what if someone is adding washer fluid or oil or whatever and the owner of the car doesn't understand that the engine shuts off, they are immediately going to think something is wrong with the car. So before making accusations of someone being or not being a "Mechanic" you should probably ask them.

I have a second vehicle that is a touchscreen and I absolutely find it more distracting to use while driving than the touchpad. But everyone has a different brain so it is important that you get what you want. Acura should have made it dual function, but under that scenario I would still use the touchpad 80% of the time. It has a great cockpit feel.

There are much better options out there - if you have to have a BMW, the 540i M-Sport I had for 3 weeks was incredible, much, much better and way better built than the X5.

    • @philipjacob2314

      X5 is nice too but sort of basic looking vs type s. B58 engine and transmission are awesome powerful and efficient. Mdx has good handling feel and a bit of a more exciting drive compared to lower x5 models. But x5 can be better as the x5 v8 and x5m versions. Both are good but 75k is high regardless. Type s doesn’t get the prestige but it’s a good value for the money- good features and nice driving with some type s style. BMW is a better chassis and more expensive and just impressive powertrains across the board. Basically the x5 in general is a better car but it’s better because you pay more. Mdx is really good for the money. I usually expect the better car to be more expensive even though it’s not always the case.
