At 23:45, you didn't need to use the car key or any key to disengage the anchor tongue. Just use the seatbelt tongue that's right beside it to insert into that tiny opening to unlock the anchor tongue. The very first day when I got my 2008 Odyssey, I've intuitively use the seatbelt metal tongue to unlock. It worked brilliently and I believe Honda engineers designed it that way. It was super convenient.
Funny story, a couple of years ago when I test drove the new Odyssey at the dealership, and I disengaged the anchor tongue with the seatbelt tongue, the saleperson was surprised. He said he had always used a key. hum.... was I the only person using the seatbelt tongue?

Nice review. We still have an older Sienna (basically a utility/work truck now) and your channel has helped me maintain it, recently replacing the water pump. THANK YOU!!!
Now on to the review. We loved the Type S so much that we purchased a '23 and have driven it over the past year and 14k miles. It is the nicest car we owned to date. I agree with every aspect of your review, except the infotainment system. Neither of us have any issues with it, and wife prefers it to touch screens since they are typically farther to each, and being shorter she has difficulty in most vehicles, which actually causes MORE distraction while driving. We added the spare tire option and a few other bits and pieces, and she look and drives sharp! The Jekyll and Hyde personalities are both exactly what you would expect. Comfort is like a comfy couch, and it feels like a heavier luxury vehicle. But in Sport+ it feels a lot lighter and more nimble in every aspect. Watch out of if heavy on the throttle in S+, you can break the rear loose a bit due to the torque steer, but tends to correct pretty easily.

    Great video as always.
My wife and I bought a 2023 Acura MDX 3.5L V6 last year and now have 13,600'ish miles on it. We test drove the Type-S first and actually got to keep it for a day and put about 50 miles on it. While the extra power is nice I was very surprised how bad the mpg was with the 3.0L turbo. We were averaging around 16 mpg city and never got above 20 on the highway. When you have a vehicle that suggests premium fuel (I always use the fuel suggested) 16 mpg city in 2024 is just not acceptable. A big part of that is the SH-AWD system which just kills the MPG. As Texans, we don't need all wheel drive, so unless you live in snow I wouldn't recommend it.
Since my wife is the primary driver we then moved over to the 3.5L V6 Tech package model and it was perfect. Not only is the 3.5L V6 more than powerful, in city we have averaged around 22-23 mpg since we bought it, and on the highway it will get 26-27 mpg regularly. It is pretty impressive for what it is. Again, we have the FWD model.
Concerning the suspension, the Type S road much rougher in the sport modes, but it did soften up if you wanted it. The model we have is thee most comfortable SUV we have ever owned. Over Christmas we drove across three states totalling nearly 3,000 miles round trip and I have never been more comfortable in an SUV in my life.
Bottom line unless you are willing to deal with the terrible mpg I wouldn't get the Type-S and I would also stay away from the SH-AWD.
Overall, I would give the current MDX a 8.9/10 and we hope to own this for the next 20 years.

I picked up a 24 Type S advance in November - have 14k on it. This review largely is spot on: eats up trouble free miles with comfort and luxury along with a spot of fun (given it is an SUV) when you want. My only two differences with the review are: 1). the info system isn't really that much of a headache - it isn't great but you get used to it, and 2). the gas mileage is not very good - I'm getting 22.7 but that is mostly easy highway driving. But the main conclusion is exactly right - it hits a unique sweet spot that a lot of folks will really enjoy and offers excellent value.

I leased a brand new 2020 MDX A-SPEC and had to trade it in because of a problem with the idle stop. We were close to being broadsided because the engine would just stop all of a sudden and would not turn on. Honda issued a recall for it. We took the car three times to the dealer but the problem persisted. Other than that, it was fantastic.

Coming up on 5000 miles on my Type S. Biggest gripes: cruise control doesn't engage under 25mph. All school zones I traverse are 20mph. Not the biggest deal but literally EVERY car I've ever had prior, cruise control worked at 20mph. The biggest downside is the fuel consumption. It's atrocious. I drive no different than I drove the x3 m40i I traded for this one. I was 19-20mpg on average in my b58 powered x3. I'm consistently 15-16mpg in the Type S. That's a 25% difference. Still love the vehicle though. The massagers are fantastic, and I'd never want a vehicle that doesn't have air suspension ever again. The audio system is banging and the SH AWD is a really really good system. Never have an issue with traction.

MDX while the infotainment has lagged in design and functionality. Engine choices and the combination of SH-AWD have made the car nimble and gave it a feel that it was quicker than it really is. After all you are driving a 4800lb behemoth and you need lots of torque and HP. However, fuel efficiency has been a deficiency that Acura never surpassed or even attempted to address. I own a 2011 MDX with 300 HP, while my car is 13 yrs old, my engine puts a good amount of HP and torque that make it fun to drive. I dis test a 2023 Advance and while i own a base model. IMO the 2023 lacked power, 10 gears is too many, and it felt sluggish. Seats were not comfortable and the car was just bigger but lacked power. The interior did not feel luxurious at all.

They squared the motor up for the turbo and gave it DOHC heads. Also, the 10 speed and all the transmissions that are 7,8,9 gears were engineered to offer maximum efficiency, and that's literally why they were designed. It's not hunting for anything. Theoretically, it's in the most efficient gear for the conditions you're offering it.

I understand that a touchscreen is easy to use. Car journalists/reviewers are always quick to criticize non touchscreen systems - for example, Acura and Mazda, but honestly after a wk, you get use to the system and it actually feels safer to use when driving - no need to lean forward, poking at the screen. Not all tech needs to operate like an iPhone. It’s a car lol. I appreciate the difference in UI.

The pilot mdx and rdx use the 10spd transmission with the pto that’s driven off the passenger side of the trans output stub, problem is it’s not lubricated, just has grease from assembly. My customers 2020 Rdx with 109,000 miles needed both transmission and pto replaced because of wear due to lack of proper lubrication. There is nothing besides the initial grease from assembly to keep it lubricated. This will yield more failures. As of today that fix was about $12k to replace both units.

Body side moldings are a must where I live. In my opinion they should be required standard equipment. Too many people are careless about parking too close, swinging their doors open, and not putting shopping carts in the corral where they belong. My wife has a TLX Type S that we love, and I have an old 4Runner. I looked at a dark gray MDX Type S a few days ago. It was beautiful, but a bit more than I want to spend. It was $75,000.

I like how it has the size and space to haul a family and is sporty at the same time. It’s so fun to drive and the SH-AWD shines when taking sharp corners.
This car offers so much for the money especially with that V6 engine that you get as standard. You get amenities like massaging seats and air suspension that lifts the vehicle’s ground clearance.
I mean, the MDX has been around for decades and it holds value of up to 55% after 5 years. For the money, you get more amenities than what its competitors like Lexus and the German offers. The cons are its terrible fuel engine and lack of prestige brand (it matters to a lot of people).

Top Notch review of the mechanicals of this great SUV. I think you should have emphasized more that you tested the Non Advance Type S model. The Advance seems to add some other nicities / amenitis for about $5K more - that is a matter of personal preference / choice / pocketbook decisions an individual would need to make. HUD, Massaging Front seats, etc. You should also note that this MDX model has the Auto-Dampening suspension (Not the Air Suspension) which my 22 MDX Advance Does NOT have, yet the Canadian version did , al; the RDXs do as well. That was a cheap shortcut IMHO. Agreed with our opinion on the TTIP InfoT. system. One does "get used to it" with use, but overall, I find I do take my eyes off the road using it. My 22 Advance does have the HUD in the windshield which makes making selections easier as well as using controls on the Steering Wheel. However, connecting to AA or CP is downright awful. The TTIP becomes a very Slow operating Mouse pad. I am approaching a crossroads of a car decision - my 22 lease terminates in August. I do Pine for a TYPE S Advance, but with only an estimated 22K miles on the clock by August, and a $38.5K Buyout price, that makes the decision hard! In my thinking, I have considerable "equity" in my lease which could be used to make a good deal on a new 24 Type S Advance.
