One thing I want to mention. If you set the "max roughness" to 1.0 then the "Fast GI Approximation" does nothing as the max roughness sets when EEVEE hands off to the secondary GI engine.
@@MrSheduur I think you misunderstood my comment. By setting the max roughness setting to 1.0 it disables "fast GI approximation" completely, which is a different algorithm. So changing the settings of "Fast GI" doesn't have any effect on the image unless you turn "max roughness" Below 1.0 only settings in the main global illumination section will have any effect. Though in 4.3 there is an option to disable "Fast GI" all together.
This engine upgrade is insane. I have an outdoor vehicle scene. The same frame that took over a minute to render in Cycles took less than 2 seconds with Eevee next, and the quality was very similar. There are some issues I need to work out with the glass, but that could just be a materials setting.
There aren’t many major differences, and I suggest you try it out yourself. Many people in archviz are now using real-time engines like Unreal Engine. Eevee Next in Blender 4.2 has made significant strides, particularly in reflections and global illumination, bringing its quality closer to that of Cycles.
Ehhh. I'm 100% convinced Eevee can't rival with Cycles ; I'm curious to see if your tips can really work! Haven't tried it yet, but I'll come back once I have and say if you convinced skeptical me! EDIT: Yeah.... not impessed. The shadows still look bad. Performance is better, but it's pointless if it's not as good as Cycles. I'l lstill test it a bit more. 2:54 : Increasing the Shadow rays made my scene glitch off. Apparently it's extremely CPU intensive.
I'm just a beginner, but I'm wondering why they didn't leave the old Eevee (as well as have Eevee Next)? Can't see how it would hurt them, and some people might have liked some effects they were getting with the old Eevee. I suppose they can run an old version of Blender if they want old Eevee? Thanks for your video.
For anyone else wondering this: this question was discussed by the devs. The answer why they didn't is similar to why they deprecated the game engine: it is a lot to support, and the pressure is put on the small core dev team to keep it up. And that can keep them away from more important development elsewhere in Blender. The game engine is still maintained in forks of Blender, which is good enough for the community. With Eevee, the old version wasn't built to support many of the features Eevee Next has, which is why they did a complete rewrite. And as you said, for most people, just staying on Blender 4.1 is enough until Eevee Next gets polished.
To make rendering in EEVEE look like/alike Cycles require more work of compositing. EEVEE Next helps this getting much closer with realtime raytracing. Do you know what hardware requiremnents for EEVEE Next like Graphics card, RAM and so on.
You can run a low spec system, such as 8gb of ram and a graphics card with 1gb of vram, but this is the minimum requirement, higher specifications will significantly improve performance.
We’re working on a website where you can access all the models. The site will be ready this month, and I’ll announce it on my social media once it’s ready.
for some reason it's impossible for me to cast hard shadows on EEVEE Next no matter what i do / 4.2 stable!! and it randomly crashes despite i'm on 64gb of RAM and a 3090.
@@piraniarts i have no issues cranking Eevee on 4.1. Blender 4.2 has been a pain in the ah for thousands of people. My GPU drivers are well up to date especially since I run Wagnard's DDU uninstaller in safemode. For me blender feels like it's releasing rushed software and it's getting worse by the years.
My blender crashes whenever I try to render EEVEE Next. Funny how it makes EEVEE Next look like a more advanced renderer than Cycles since Cycles gives me no issues. I have to do a viewport render to get anything out of EEVEE
Cycles and all the offline render engines are not fast in every system and even on powerful systems it will take a while to render each frame, even with optimization you can't achieve the ideal speed especially when you have hair or particles in the scene, real-time engines such as eevee next or unreal are great improvements in rendering which you can achieve the renders more closer to cycles.
I personally do not like the new Eevee. Too many bugs and takes way longer for render times than any of the previous versions. So I’m not entirely sure what the point of it even was. I just uninstalled 4.2 and went back to 4.1 for now until the devs can get the bugs fixed. No biggie! It happens with every new release.
Nice video but saying you can achieve same result as cycles is just disinformation, no matter how much you try. Technical limitations make the comparison unfair, in quality, cycles always wins with a large advantage. It’s visible even in your renders. It’s more honest to say: hot to improve eevee results.
Thanks, but I don't notice many differences (maybe I forgot to put on my glasses :) ). There are a few small differences, but they aren't significant. This doesn't mean that Eevee is of low quality. However, real-time rendering is much better than offline rendering, so I'm okay with overlooking some small differences.
Keep in mind that people paint things that look photorealistic by hand - the only difference is the amount of work you have to put in to get the details right. Cycles gives you many physical details for free, but it’s not the only way to get them
They should add pressets for the render quality for eevee, tons of options to care about!
that would be great
Holy crap the new EEVEE is GENUINELY a game changer, holy crap. Thank you so much for this video, you're a lifesaver!
You're welcome
Thanks! Finally got my render going fast.
Thank you! The thickness and max roughness settings really helped improve the look of my scene!
I love Eevee next videos so much
Very Informative video, much needed. Made my scene look a lot better, just like it got a new life. Thank you :)

shadow jitter ! that made the most improvement for my render ! thanks !

One thing I want to mention. If you set the "max roughness" to 1.0 then the "Fast GI Approximation" does nothing as the max roughness sets when EEVEE hands off to the secondary GI engine.
so then it actually does something. it ensures that Evee uses the more accurate GI calculation at all times vs only in some cases.

Oh my god, my raytracing roughness was set to 0 THAT'S WHY I WASN'T GETTING DARKER SHADOWS. Thank you so much:)
Screen Tracing > Thickness also helped a ton for ambient occlusion.

Blender EEVEE should be set like that by default maybe.
my biggest issue with eevee is reflection/transparent/glass, any tips/guide?
Works well in older versions
The more eevee is tweaked to mimic cycles the longer the render times. Why not just use cycles to look like cycles?
Thank you for showing us this!
You're welcome
i don't know.. i have a scene where cycles can create shadows on inner parts of some stones, like into its incision.. but eevee can't.. why?
7:02 There's no secularity on the eye in the EEVEE render.
that can be fixed in the shader editor :)

Great vídeo
Question, when I render with like f12 I lose the GI do I have to turn on something separate to get raytracing to work?
Hi, lower the ray tracing roughness and intensity, then try again. additionally, ensure all your settings are active in render mode.
can i use intel hd 6400 with eevee next?
Integrated graphics are not ideal for rendering, as they result in a low frame rate, but they can still be used if necessary.
I mean like, it is like Cyberpunk 2077 whit ray tracing off, like only D3D11, if you understand what I mean, and yeah it looks very good.
nice job...thanks

why dont just say set everything to max or close
How to render
Now volumetric is gone 4.2 is raytracing doing the job now :
Still pretty bad for refraction and caustics
