looks nice but I think you overdid the SS slightly.I tend to use a mix color node to modulate between the diffuse and subsurface. works quite well, but this is for later version like 4.2 since there is no subsurface colour slot
Can you please share these files? Textures and maps?

Well I don't think this is a realistic comparison because most of the Unreal Engine animations I've seen include what it looks like miles and miles of lush complicated territory with possibly billions of polygons. A comparison of an entire Forest of trees between Unreal Engine and blender would be a more realistic comparison.
this is a big improvement almost toolbeg vl at this point
I'll be using EEVEE Next door preview then I change to Cycles for delivery to the cloud render farm.
thank you good tutorial!!
Glad it was helpful
Nice tutorial ❤❤❤
Thanks
Blender is great for small scenes or single frame renders, but really struggles with large scenes. UE5 is good for large scenes and even animated scenes because of Nanite, automatic mesh LOD, texture LOD, etc.
I would say that horror-style model isn't the best choice for lessons - hard to look at it for long time
Are there still reflection flickering in both Blender Eevee and Unreal Engine? It's very noticeable in animation rendering
The only issue with eevee is shadow flickering, which I explained how to fix in the 'Blender 4.2 Beta' tutorial. however, reflection flickering commonly occurs in real-time render engines.
Unreal engine is not good for animation even its render fast ..time consuming of every movement and set-up. Import export sks ..better use blender 4.2 beta version
THE SSGI Mods for eevee is Alot more Capable and faster than the eevee next
The legacy eevee engine has been completely removed in blender 4.2
In this video, I compared two render engines without rating them. the choice should be made by the artist. both rendering results are good but differ due to the distinct cores of the render engines, which is understandable.
I'm Cycles user.... and I cannot believe your EeVEE render took a minute! Why use it? I thought the advantage of EeVee was speed at the sacrifice of quality.
It's clear that cycles is still better than eevee, eevee next is an improved version of eevee and it takes more time to render and is still in beta and I don't recommend using beta software at all. however this video is just a comparison, and I didn’t rate any of the render engines. the choice should be made by the artist.
when is blender 4.2 with eevee next releasing?
16 July and you can use it with beta version available one
@@MoiCestVinci before 2 days
not really.. they are lacking in anything spectacular since 2.8
What you talking about ,they gonna add ever next which takes it on par with real time renders like unreal engine
Yes, it's amazing. Next question.
Try settings in the world tab small sun angle gives so nice crispy shadows, specially when you have some tree billboards behind the window, and with new volumes godrays looks just sick good through the blinds, but there are also downsides, in order to get metal to look like it should you need to bring up Max Roughness in Raycasting tab to the level of your metal roughness, and in some cases switching denoising off makes metal look like metal, because this new EEVEE denoising method kills metal reflections with overbluring.
that's what I was looking for, thank you very much my friend. 👍
Glad I could help
can we download your dragon model for study the topology flow please
Sure, I plan to upload some of my models (including this one) on my website as soon as possible. when I add them to the website, I’ll post about it on my socials.
same quality, unreal is faster to render+ easy to set up the scene, the choice is obvious)) use USD format to drag whole scene into unreal
yes, you’re right, however, let me add something, both are easy to set up, but Blender is more customizable, for instance, in blender, you can create a volume from scratch using simple shader nodes, making it easy to create elements like clouds and customize other components.
blender uses USD as well.
unreal need to compile shaders for 30 seconds for every change.
So.. what the point of this comparsion? 🤔
I found out the subsurface scattering works nicer in UE which makes the creature skin look more realistic
Amazing Eevee got better with Next. I won't render my small projects in Cycles, only Eevee Next soon
EEVEE is good, but blender not use mip mapping or lod for texture... and for a big project the best solution is not use blender ahah
That's not true there is something called proxy geometry and you can do this using geometry nodes
Versatility is the key to success. that's why I'm learning both of them
There are techniques to implement an LOD system in blender, however, LOD is particularly useful for video games where the player can reach any area of the environment, making optimization essential.
@@danialsoozani Me too
@@williamasperti1974 amazing! good luck my friend :)
Did you use ray tracing in eevee next?
Yes, but ray tracing is very effective in scenes with high levels of reflection.
@@piraniarts wait i don't understand From what i understand you didn't use RT in ue5 so i don't think its a fair competition
@@haimalexandernikolchook8280 It's fair, because the 'ray-tracing in eevee isn't path tracing, but a simplified method called horizon scanning (if I am ot mistaken). So, basically it's fake raytracing. In unreal he used Lumen, which is a differentbut also fake system.
@@ajtatosmano2 oh really? I mean ue5 also has rt in lumen (not pt)
@@haimalexandernikolchook8280 ray tracing is a very misleading term. Path tracing is a way to achive 'ray traced lighting' and it's what cycles uses. There is bidirectional path tracing, photon gi, spectral stuff, which are all close to accurate physically and slow to calculate. Now, Lumen, Eevee and other real time engines instead of calculating everything use estimations and various methods to get as close to proper ray-traced solutions without sacrificing performance. I am not an expert and I don't know what Lumen does exactly either.
I might have missed it, but what was the render time on UE? Or was it as simple as saving the screen shot? So effectively 0secs render? If so, that’s a big difference in time, esp over multiple frames
curious to know this as well
Blender and Unreal have different architectures, so I am comparing the render results of each under the same conditions. in blender, I need to render the scene instead of taking a simple screenshot to separate the background as an alpha channel, add post effects in the compositor, and for various other reasons. unreal, being a game engine, finalizes the render in real-time (post effects, background and so on, it has to, as blender is designed for creating animation and CGI, not for real-time gaming), so a screenshot is often sufficient, while unreal’s sequencer system allows for more control over your render (operates similarly to a screenshot system, you can try!), but for this video, I added effects in blender. ultimately, both eevee next and unreal are real-time engines, but their differing architectures make a comparison necessary.
@@piraniarts then go and do a fucking render in unreal? Adjust the lumen or scalability to get similar rendertime and then compare. Because otherwise what's the point of comparison, who is it for?
Hi 🙂, I still don't know which one to use, so I use both. I'm more comfortable with Blender and I find UE 5 more complicated. I don't use UE at all to make games but only cinematics. If I got into UE it is largely because of the influencers who constantly praise this game engine...🤨
This is due to use has unlimited poly count without slowing down your device, and it's lumen rendering system gives realtime workflow whose results are somewhat similar to cycles of blender. But realtime work using cycles isn't quite posible
Work with the tool that best fits your requirements, for example, if you want to create 3D models, animations, or have more control over your scene and renders, blender is the best choice. as I mentioned in the video, unreal is primarily a game engine with numerous tools to create a great video game, while blender is a modeling software that offers extensive options for rendering and scene management. however, if you plan to work with both, it’s best to thoroughly learn one first before moving on to the other.
Nice!
Thanks
sorry, but you said "can'T harm your hardware" right? would be crazy if it could :D Thanks for the great walkthrough otherwise!
FYI, Its only been three days since you made this, but Blender 4.2 is now in Beta! 4.3 is now the alpha
Blender updates coming faster than EEVEE can render anything 🤣🤣
@@omnymisa lol did you find a bug? So far the 4.2-beta eevee is working for me rendering realitme, tinkering with its new Gi settings & other stuff all worked for me on some quick tests.
@@macronomicus I haven't find any bug, by the moment I try to avoid tests versions I may do it later when I make more progress as a User in the main time am enjoying the developer enthusiasm. But the question comes to my mind, do you see any scene where you want to be able to have the current version of EEVEE and that new one coming up?
@@omnymisa Now that its beta release they took out the old EEVEE so its just the one new one in there now, I dont miss the old one at all, the new one is so much faster. Now that its beta release features are locked & they just fix any bugs found, its almost done, beta releases tend to be fairly stable Ive found in the past.
nice channel
Thanks
Whats your spacs
I really, really hate the light bleed problem where the shadows are. I don’t know how to fix it and it makes the engine overall bad. Not to mention that the ray tracing is only screen spaced, so you loose the realistic effect if you just slightly tilt the camera away from the light source
Yes, you’re right, eevee next is currently in its alpha stage, when working with it, you need to enhance the final render using compositing.
I use eevee to render my 3D scenes and animations bacause Cycles is too heavy for me, with the right settings it is possible to get great rendering results with Eevee. Very happy to hear that Eevee is being improved.
Thanks for sharing
im pretty sure bloom is moved to the realtime compositor and requires compositor nodes to setup, could be wrong though, but that is my thought
thanks for the comment, yes, the only way to achieve bloom is through the compositor
Bloom has always been in the compositor as an option inside the "Glare node", It works similarly to the Bloom in Eevee Legacy but it has less customization. I hope they add back the old Eevee bloom as a new node for the compositor in a future update.
There is unreal with same quality but more possibility to render, why use evee LOL ?) I understand to use cycle, but not evee
because competition is good for the consumers......when one company takes over something. the user gets fucked.....needless to say that blender is also free and allows you the flexibility to write your own code and add features to it as you wish.....it's very flexible. which is why big companies are using it. Keonigsegg for example uses Blender (EEVEE) for the configurator that allows customer to customize their own CC850.
Unreal takes like 5 hrs to load 🔥🔥 I would use unreal if not for that, but unreal is also endlessly complex to learn compared to blender which isnt that big of a deal for me but may be for other people, those load times are just ass though. and thats just loading a blank scene??? not worth it to me
@@Priv_Not-None 5 hrs to load what ?)
@@aleksei7479 thats whats everyone else wants to know as well
I've worked a lot with unreal, and it's very powerful, however, as demonstrated in the video, you can achieve impressive results with eevee next, unlike eevee legacy, it's a significant improvement for a 400MB software, moreover, unreal is primarily a game engine and doesn't handle tasks like rigging, animation, sculpting, and modeling as well, unreal is also quite resource-intensive. I plan to upload a video comparing unreal and blender, which will show how unreal consumes more hardware. offline render engines like arnold, cycles, and keyshot are becoming obsolete as everything moves towards real-time rendering, the improvement in eevee is logical, finally, I'm a big fan of open-source software.
At the moment Eevee next just freezes blender for me on my system, earlier versions have crashed my entire computer before so there is some progress, not sure if it is just my Amd graphics card or something else the Developers are not forthcoming with what is happening. I do like the idea of it but hope they keep eevee in next versions as well as I use that all the time.
That sounds a bit ominous. I remember having trouble with Blender when I was simply trying to switch from vertices to edge and faces. Thankfully, this was updated a while ago. I hope I have a better time when I try Eevee-Next!
Eevee next is currently in its alpha stage, so many problems may occur, to address your issues, start by updating your GPU drivers and checking your ram usage while using blender, high ram usage can cause blender to freeze. although I don’t have an amd gpu, many users do, and it typically doesn't pose major issues nowadays.
@@piraniarts yep it’s ram usage, suddenly Blender just eats up all my Ram and more and everything locks up. Odd that EEVEE Next is the cause though. The same file on EEVEE is perfectly fine. I know 16 gig of ram is now on the low end but for a render engine that is supposed to be less systems taxing there is something going wrong.
IF YOU USE EEVEE-NEXT AND RAYTRACING YOU DO USE A PROBE VOLUME IN YOUR SCENE FOR HAVING A REALISTIC LIGHTNING AND SHADOWING, RAYTRACING ONLY ISN'T EFFICIENCY YOU DO ADDING A PROBE VOLUME AND BAKE IT PLEASE SHARE THE INFORMATION IN ALL EEVEE-NEXT VIDEO !
