- Hyde might have actually been mentioned in the new Netflix series That's 90's show. After watching the new series and rewatching something that could possibly be the answer to where Steven Hyde is was discussed.

I think she’s the Hyde-character; not his daughter. Hyde was practically a son to Kitty and she’d know if she was or that he’s a truck driver.

1. The elder Formans never met with the Runcks (Sherri, Nate, and Gwen) before Leia stayed for the summer. Kitty hasn't known them very well. Sherri looks like someone who wants to move on from Nate and Gwen's dads.
2. Hyde probably just left sometime between the end of That 70's Show and That 90's Show and didn't keep in touch with Kitty and Red despite all they did for him. It's sad that that kind of thing happens in real life. Which is probably why the elder Formans never mention him.
3. Sherri and her kids probably just moved to Point Place which is why they weren't acquainted with the elder Formans despite being next-door neighbors.
Yeah and no it depends my family had one of my close friends they her my sister many time (even at my mom funeral) and my dad and other in the family don't know what they are up to now. And only reason she new about my mom passing was social media that was not a thing in 95. So their are ways they could play it out like that if they wished or as you point out just a character to fill hydes spot in the dynamic of the group chemistry.

Kitty could know but not be telling because it is Hyde's business. She may have even suggested Hyde to tell Sherry about the house next door was for rent so she could keep an eye on Gwen for him. It does not mean she knew Sherry or Gwen. I mean if Hyde was a hookup form sixteen years ago, Sherry could simply not know about kitty, especially if Sherry was married to Nate's dad when she had Gwen. Then when the kids coming around it gave her the chance to befriend Sherry to better keep an eye on things. She did get real friendly real fast with her. Letting her use their shower and bum groceries off of her, etc. Heck even giving the kids the basement, maybe was her way of keeping an eye on Gwen for Hyde.
I've had similar thoughts myself. Gwen has most of Hyde's personality traits and is the one who is meant to fit the mold of one of the original characters. I just thought if that were the case, they would explicitly state that Gwen is Hyde's daughter as Red and Kitty would know about it. They de facto adopted him as part of the family. Gwen partly reminds me of Hyde's sister.
I agree however 20yrs is a long time so alot could happen. They might also know Hyde has a daughter but not know its gwen. if one thing that 70's show taught me is they never stay true to the story arc. examples donna sister or randy just gone at the end

I just think the fact she's so much like Hyde is something we can pass up!! plus knowing who Hyde's dad is actually just kinda adds to the theory. Plus like iv been saying that the '70s show was not known for its consistent story arcs!

@@scrfypkls Donna actually had 2 sisters in That 70's show. One older than her that was mentioned, and one younger that was shown. Older one was names Valeri, and the younger one Tina
Knowing Jackie and Michael were divorced several times, and got back together several times, is spot on for those characters 😂

In some ways it makes sense when you consider how Hyde was essentially Eric's best friend and confidant. So the fact that their daughters are now best friends would be quite fitting.

I also have said this before, but Gwen being Hyde’s daughter makes perfect sense. They both are similar in terms of character traits. Both are rebellious, anti-establishment, are friends with a Kelso, and both dress in their respective decades. Not to mention her and Leia’s friendship mirrors that of Eric and Hyde’s. The only question I have if this was the case would be, who is her biological mother? Maybe Donna’s old friend and radio colleague, Melissa? I know that this all just a stretch, but it somehow makes sense lol
Oh I 100% agree I know the main thing was a lot of people will say but Hyde is white. However that’s not true so the more you look at it the more you are like wait yes that actually makes sense.
Since Hyde was white passing biracial who believed he was white until he met his bio dad, it would be possible for him to have a darker child. Recessive genes.

Hyde was voted most likely to go to prison in high school. She could just be saying she only gets to see him when he is passing through and he is a truck driver when she really only gets to see him ob visiting days.
I cannot fathom a scenario where Hyde has a child that the foremans (Kitty, Hyde, Donna, and Eric) are unaware of. I dealt with red being surprised by Jay Kelso, but Hyde was kitty’s “second son.”

If Gwen is Hyde’s daughter, Nate is Kelsos son. I thought he was supposed to be a kelso from the commercials but was surprised when I saw the show. The Jay dude didn’t feel as Kelso to me. They could still write kelso in as his dad.
See his mom calls his dad in Japan and he is named so we know his dads is a baseball player named Brian!
@@scrfypkls they should have done away with the jay character and made Nate kelsos son. Still not too late with how these shows work. They could play up the mom getting around and have to take a paternity test where they find out that guys not the dad and that kelso banged her.
I think we could find that out. I also think Jay could be Fez's son. Jackie was already pregnant when she dumped Fez for Kelso.

She was the only black girl who appeared on the series, except for Hyde's sister.
Except we know that Sherri is her mother. The only way Donna's coworker being her mother would work is if Gwen was adopted by Sherri.

Hey everyone! I haven’t watched the show since it has disappointed me from the trailer., which eliminated all interest at watching it. From the comments, the mother is introduced. My initial guess was Angie but since the mother is referred to someone else, well then my estimate was wishful.
I’m sticking to re-reading the fan fiction storyline of how the characters grew up and evolved. Because That’s 90’s Show is a no for me.

I like this theory, however I don’t think it makes much sense for Hyde’s character. Hyde grew up with his parents abandoning him, so I don’t think he would do the same thing to his own child. If Hyde did have a daughter, Red and Kitty would’ve definitely known about it because he was practically a second son to the formans .
Like-minded about loving the show. Not like-minded about trying and convicting a person of wrongdoing in the court of public opinion!

I think they could've made it work if they used Masterson's brother, Chris. Hype's character was mostly bearded with shades so they could've made it work like they did when they replaced Laurie
Both Gwen and Nate have their moms last name but different dads. That in itself didnt make sense to me.
I think it would be more realistic for Hyde to be in prison considering how he was. Hell he went to jail in one episode of that 70s show. It would be easier just to say he died from a drug overdose in the 80s or ended up in prison which isn't far off from the life of the actor that played him.
As for Gwens similarities to Hyde, I was a teen in the 90s. Anti-establishment and anarchy was pretty much normal. It's literally the era of grunge and alternative music. I went to school wearing cutoff shorts, flannels, knee high socks and combat boots. All my friends were stoners or skaters or both.
On another note, one thing that bugged me about this show was how Jay and Nate kept repeatedly saying bro to each other. That literally was not a 'thing' in the 90s. Thats something that became popular in the early 2000s with teen boys. In the 90s we said the word 'dude' all the time. Hell Ashton Kusher literally starred in a movie called 'Dude where's my car' in 2000. I don't remember ever calling anyone 'bro' like that in the 90s. The movie 'Grown Ups' that came out in 2010 literally had two characters they used to make fun of how teen boys said bro so much to each other. That whole Bro thing just wasn't a thing in the 90s at all end of story. We said "dude'.
The show did have some kinks in terms of accuracy to the 90s

It's possible - and could be a hook point to reinsert Hyde if Masterson is found not guilty. However, I am sure they will mention Hyde by name, eventually. It's too big an elephant in the room to omit.

I believe lorie was recasted twice if not three times. I know there are definitely actors that could pull of Hyde character. Honestly I wouldn’t mind 1 episode. That answers where Hyde is. Just a mention would do.
Recasting don’t always work. It’s the elephant in the room that should have been addressed in a single shot and moved on . Now it’s just building up tension.

It wasn't just a scene, his dad became a side character and eventually gave Hyde the record store which had hosted many scenes for the main cast.
I thought the exact same thing. We know from science that melanin can skip a generation. The show shameless, even described that when they got a DNA test to see if frank was liam's father. Which he was, spoliler if you havent watched (sorry). But it is scientifically possible for melanin to skip generations. In this case, Hyde had a black father, and the melanin skipped him (leaving him and others believing bud hyde was his father, but was actually william barnett). And now the melanin showed up in gwen.

@@scrfypkls not a problem. I didnt realize this was an actual thing until i read a story of a guy who thought his fiance cheated on him. Turns out, his grandmother got pregnant on a cruise from a black man, and the melanin skipped a few generations to his child. The family was bewildered, and i looked into it afterwards to see if it was true or not. Lol

(A) They could use Danny’s brother to play Hyde. He did play in a few episodes of That 70’s Show.
(B) They could skate around it by bringing him up here there and add Angie in an episode.

2001 cops didn’t arrest Danny Masterson. 2023 the judge ruled a mistrial for Danny Masterson. On the exact same charges. Could Hyde actually return himself. A cameo ie Kelso & Jackie.
They rescheduled the trial though due to the mistrial between jurors at the time.
@@Michelle-DiPalo Jurors 10-2 leaning towards acquittal. Maybe on the third go they’ll find people who think he’s guilty. I could be wrong but it seems they’re really trying to lock him up despite what the cops and jurors, people who actually seen-know the evidence, say. Idk

I had that thought when it was said. It does sound like something Hyde would do. And seeing that Gwen doesn’t know the Foreman’s and know that they knew Hyde, what’s the point of disclosing his identity any farther? Especially if they probably aren’t going to bring Danny Masterson back, it doesn’t open expectations of seeing him, but at the same time still keeps it vague enough for context. That alone is appreciated to know Hyde’s character is always out there.
And it would be easy to confirm with bringing his father or Angie onto the show. With our ever having to mention Hyde

I had the exact same thought a few days after finishing the show. It would be a great way to leave Hyde’s character open ended (without killing him off) It kind of reminds me of Shameless where frank is revealed to be Liam’s biological father despite frank and monica looking fully white
Well considering he's facing sexual charges they probably don't want any details about him at all after the me to movement and all that. It is a bit disappointing how he ended up and the timing but then again it's all fucked. The fact that Kelso and Jackie were married before have a teenage son and they didn't know means they really didn't keep in touch.
Honestly? I’m less concerned about Hyde’s whereabouts or anyone related to him than I am about Kelso’s daughter who should be about college-aged by 1995🤔 But tbh I think this is kind of a reach. The writers knew they needed a proxy-Hyde so Gwen was given his characteristics. Her dislike of The Man is very in line with her being Black in the 90s. If anything, I’d believe it if she was really his niece instead but I doubt it.

Well Chritina Moore died so they'd have to recast the character. And if Daniel Peter Masterson is found not guilty (hes getting retried) then that's how he comes back.

There is nothing wrong with having danny masterson back as hyde. He has not been found guilty of anything. If you think that doesnt matter, ask yourself if it matters if the court finds him guilty or not? And if that means accusations alone without court are sufficient to ruin somebodies career.
I don’t think Gwen is related to Hyde. And Laurie was mentioned in that 90’s show but not by name. I do think they should bring Hyde in somehow without bringing Danny back considering the charges against him. But a few mentions and some clarity on what he’s up to. The actor and character are not the same and you could maybe even get away with recasting a grown up Hyde or yes bring in his family.

That’s a cool theory I believe that Gwen could be part of Hyde in some way too, I believe that he is not his daughter, but maybe a cousin… what if his father or mother have other siblings who had other kids and they had kids in point place or somewhere else that is close to point place. That is possibly . so she will be like 2nd or 3rd cousin to him. That would make more sense.
Your theory works. I thought about it when I first saw Gwen. The truck driver job also works as many, NOT ALL, truck drivers have less than stellar backgrounds and several families in several towns.
I agree and honestly like I said he does not want to work for the man. I did not go into super detail but his father owns a chain of music stores. So it’s very possible that he transports the music from store to store.

I definitely considered that, she's playing the same role and the mulatto connection seems to hint there's more but she's exactly the type of person you'd have assume Hyde's role if recasting as female.

my comfort show as well. I think most people who were teenagers in the seventies feel the same. I'm currently watching the 90s show again for the 4th time. It's not perfect but what is? It gets better each time I watch it.
I feel that the 13-8 episodes needs to be scrapped when dealing with a sitcom! It sucks all the new kids are getting hate but they are filling some massive shoes!
@@scrfypkls Well it takes that many episodes for the actors to get into a groove together and have good chemistry. That 70's show was not that good until the second half of the first season. The more the actors worked together the better it got, until Topher and Ashton left, anyway.
If we're theorizing the likelihood of secret children from the original cast. What if Nate's dad is actually Casey, Kelso's big brother. Think about it Casey is just as dim witted as Michael although he seems more athletically inclined. I think its possible that since he was in the army, he could have gone back to the military at some point and gotten a posting in Japan. And that is where he took up baseball and went pro. Although the idea that Jay wouldn't know Nate is his cousin maybe a bit of a stretch, but then again given their bond they could just see each other as BFFs rather than typical cousins. And the fact they are related could be the reason why they know each other in the first place.

I didn't see it until you explained it. Yes she could be. But wouldn't Red and Kitty know where their foster son would be as a adult? For how maternal Kitty felt about Hyde you would think she would know exactly what he was up to. And she would have to recognize Gwens Mom. I understand where you are coming from but nope I don't believe it enough to say yes for sure.

While there’s always the possibility the Foreman’s aren’t aware of Hyde ever having a daughter, since Hyde is who he is lol, I think Gwen is just supposed to fit the Hyde character in the new friend group. If you notice, they all share very distinct traits to the original friend group, even though we know they aren’t related. It’s just the shows way of trying to make us feel nostalgia, or in other words, sell us the show since most of us were going into it assuming it was gonna be a failure. Anyways, that’s just my take on it. It is a fun a theory though

It’s just a great way for them to hint at it without ever having to bring him on set! He was to big of a part to just never talk about.
I definitely felt like Gwen was somehow representing Hyde, as in being a sort of stand-in for his character. But if she is truly his daughter... well, given that he wound up living in the Formans' basement for a while, it is kind of odd that two and two are never put together.

That would be a good joke for the eventual series finale. Like have that be the scene to close out the franchise for good. Or better yet, make it a reference to That 80s Show. Having Red say turn this crap off would be more fitting 😂

I thought possibly but Angie is very Type A and I could not see her not being in Gwen’s life but again you never know!
I only saw a few clips on UA-cam, and this idea crossed my mind. (I only watch some of the original.) But, I am a writer, and I think like a writer.
On the other hand, sometimes writers leave in wriggle room to decided what they want to do later.
This is a great theory and may be their unkept secret for the show. But even if they don’t address it i can’t look at their character any differently until they make it known who her father actually is in the show.
I think that unfortunately, that the actor playing hyde has been known too have sexual unwanted advances towards woman and they don't want too offend any people by bringing him on, so it's kinda sad since he was a large part of the show but I only think we will hear of him in conversations but that will be it maybe in the future he might make a small tiny cameo.
I sat on watch the show just been watching previews but she is definitely the hyde type for this group of friends. And I could definitely see it. Seems silly but it's comedy tv so it's possible. 70s show was my comfort show for the decade after it came out have watched so many times.
That 70s show never took its self to seriously in terms of follow a true story arc!
Gwen could be Hyde niece. Hyde has a half sister.

I love watching "That 70's Show" because I grew up in the 70s (I've figure I'm about 10 years younger than Eric Forman), and it takes me back. I have to admit, my Dad--God rest his soul--was pretty much like Red Forman, and I was--probably still am--kinda nerdy, but it all worked out.

I think the Girl that played on Last Man Standing and the Ranch Molly McCook. Would be a great person to play Lori. She is close to the right age and height. Even her voice is not to far off. A half black half white parent could have a child that looks more black or more white…which is why Hyde having a black dad and a white mom made sense…but Gwen’s mom is also white so the chances of Gwen being half black favoring the black side genetically is VERY unlikely since both her parents are white although tv does really count as reality so…I mean…maybe yea it’s possible
I have been referring to Shameless and Liam this is also a sitcom so they don’t take things to serious!

It would be the ideal world but it really does not look good. It makes sense for Netflix to distance themselves. It’s easier for them to bring someone back who’s found innocent then. For them to deal with the situation if he’s found guilty.

The biggest reason I have trouble with this is that you would think the Formans would know about her.
As much as Steven Hyde was a part of their lives for so long, I cannot imagine he would take off in a truck, have a daughter who lives in Point place, and they would never know about her.
I do get what you are saying however it's been 20yrs! and they are known to have a lot of plot holes when it comes to the story. They showed that even in this series without even talking about jays sister!
What about Laurie,did they mention her or not,I know the actress passed away but they are acting as if she never existed,they Judy Winslowed her.
They did mention her but not by name. Laurie also was recasted when the original was in Rehab so they do have another actress

It's not like the mother couldn't have been a woman of colour. He did have several dates and occasionally dated or well cheated on jackie with women of colour, so I wouldn't be surprised if it was her mother, and steven her father, as she does act as the same stereotype as hyde was back in the OG show, as the alternative or edgy character that often rebels against the narrative and social dynamic.
