Seems normal to me. Anything you might want to see has to be on different channels to increase the flow of your cash out of your wallet. It's like a law or something.
@@errorsinconduct Except when it's an anime remake but anime is animation so it's for kids and it's safe to make a remake. That's my best shot to figure out their logic behind it.
Except, not really. The whole point of That 70's show, was what it was like to grow up in the 70's. A 90's show about 40 year olds, would just be what, Friends? lol
you nailed it: that’s 70s show makes you feel like you’re hanging out with the cast. that’s 90s show makes you feel like you’re watching a 10th grade drama class performance written by the students, oh but some of the old cast is back for a few lines so it’s fine right?
my biggest complaint is that the kids don't feel like 90's kids at all, it's like you said: it's like watching a disney channel sitcom. the cadance and tone is identical to those shows whenever the kids are on screen and it's almost like watching a high school theater group perform on stage
I’m going to give them a chance and hope the show and acting gets better in season 2. Sitcoms usually have bleh acting and ups and downs in the show during the first season. So I hope Netflix doesn’t count it out like it usually does with sitcoms after season 1
As a fan of "That 70s show" this is pretty much exactly how i feel, the chemistry between the characters is just not there, making everything feel forced, and watching the old characters just makes it more evident, even with just a few scenes you can see those characters still work and it's because the cast chemistry is still intact.
I don´t think thats that big of an issue, the main cast is brand new and probably havent worked together before, how could they have chemestry, without knowing each other? Also I think the later episodes of the season are quite entertaining, maybe not as entertaining as 70s, but again its a new cast and new writers. I´d like to see the series develop for at least another one or two seasons . I think it might be/become a good show.
Sad. The clips look so funny with the original cast. Too bad they didn't focus on the original cast, where they are years later, and just have some kids as background characters. I'm afraid that this is going to be more of a rip-off of that 70s show but with some cameos by original actors, much like the sequel star wars movies, ironically.
@@davidm4566 some jokes are funny, but i don't know if it's the script, the actors, the directing or a mix of all of the above, but most of times feels forced, with the original cast it really feels like they were friends or hanged out pretty much since the start of their show
@@nichubi2822 you don't have to know someone to have chemistry with them. I doubt the original cast knew each other that well before the pilot of that 70's. But when it's there, it's there. When it's not, it's awkward.
@@nichubi2822 the only thing is like the show had to be more censored because of current times, so it feels very disney like... before, that 70s show was racist, misogynistic, and lots of drugs... I still think they did a good job for their first season.
I went back to watch 'That 70's show' just recently and what caught my eye was just how great the acting is. It was so good it made mad thinking about how awards shows never give any consideration for comedic performances. The timing, expressions, deliveries all come together well and I'm so glad that most of these actors went on to do other things.
I was a fan. They had their share of cringe moments back in the day. Leia socially is like Eric lol. I'm hoping the longer it goes on the better and smoother the new kids will get.
During the first season of That 70s Show, many of the young actors had little acting experience, and they got criticized for smirking when someone made a joke. But that actually gave the show realism.
I felt this too. The show was always such a vibe. It perfectly captures a bunch of teens hanging around doing the same old thing. It's feels so natural. Like they've really been friends for decades and this is just another day. And maybe becuase I saw the show when I was 6 for the first time, but the cast was just insanly cool. They weren't really popular or outcast, just a really cool group of kids. The only show in the last 10 years that's captured teenage interactions perfectly is grand army.
Just from the overall looks, it seemed like That 70's Show was made by people who actually lived in the 70's, while That 90's Show is made by people who watched 2000's Disney Channel shows and a few episodes of the original for reference.
Me, my brother & our mother watched that 70s Show. My mom loved it because of how damn accurate it was. She naturally grew up during the 70s. The props, themes, slang, references, etc., were so on point. She'd get so excited & laugh & say "I remember that!" With this show, it really is like they saw Girl Meets World & thought "Yea. We can do that." I noticed how on That 70s Show 97% of the music was from the 70s. They ended That 90s Show's season finale with Kids in America... which was the 80s. Not mention I noticed a distinct lack of butterfly clips in this, lol.
Leia is still a dumb name knowing why he named her that (no offense to actual Leia's) I get that Eric loved Star Wars but I feel like he definitely would have been shot down by Donna who kept him grounded. It just feels dumb that Eric and Donna, who were not stupid, would be the parents to name their kid after a Fictional charcater.
You hit the nail on the head about the chemistry. The original series you felt like you were watching friends actually hang out, you felt like you were watching your own friend group hang out if you were blessed enough to be a teenager who spent all of their time stoned in their friends basement. I remember my group we all had characters we thought resembled each of us, that’s how likeable and realistic the original group is and I know my friend group wasn’t the only one to see themselves in the gang. This is legit just teen actors reading corny lines
You need to give them some space to grow my friend instead of twisting their lemon about everything! How the Huckleberry do you expect them to get better when they have to deal with so much pressure?
@@shayla106 That's not cool what you just did. Dismissing people like that can really hurt their feelings, my friend! Fortunately I'm made of sterner stuff, but you need to think about this stuff before going postal as they say.
You're literally judging a 10 episode show. Not only that, but the kids in that 70s show literally grew up together since they were really young. Like kindergarten I believe. Imagine if the creators of that 70s show said they had 10 episodes to tell their story. It would have been way, way different, there's no time to really develop any characters. And I said before it's easier for 18 year olds in the 90s to act like they're in the 70s than it is for 18 year olds in 2023 to act like they're in the 90s. Plus they're actually younger actors, and they did get better by the end of the season, which in terms of progression, is better than the acting 10 episodes in the first season of that 70s show.
@@Mason-is4mr That's what he does dude.... its like the whole point of his channel. Watch movies/tv shows and judge them and make entertaining commentary. If you don't like it, watch something else. OR maybe you're just taking offense cause you enjoy the show and he didn't

Never got what the big deal was about the show until I started watching it. So many old sitcoms get an "eh" from me but this one actually clicked. Enjoying every episode.
I looked it up the reason they bring that energy is because the group of kids are literally all kids except for on of the guys who's 18 everyone else is 15-17 years old.
@@danielpruitt8550 i know, and I've got no issue with the actors, but it's worth noting that Mila Kunis was 14 when she starred on the original show, and she absolutely lived her role from start to finish
The cameos from the original cast members was the best part, as were Red and Kitty. Also, they did a fantastic job at picking actors for Jay and Leia who resembled their on screen parents.
That 70s show was closer to how 90s teenagers where lmao. I remember in the 90s teenagers smoke cigarettes where more homophobic and rebellious 😂😂😂. This gen Z Disney show is horrible 😂😂
This is exactly what it felt like! With that 70's show I sometimes truly forgot they were teens from the 90's, not the 70's, because they portrayed it so well. While watching this show, it's just a bunch of gen z kids :( I still kinda liked it tho, but they really didn't put time and effort into getting the 90's vibe right. The acting was really Disney channel like, they were uncomfortable and somehow also the backdrops looked really really fake. It all looks like cheap Disney Channel sets, while that 70's show really felt like an actual house where they were hanging. Even tho everything is 'the same'.
@@ryancarona4199 Yeah. That 1990s were so homophobic they had Will & Grace on television, Ellen coming out on her sitcom, a gay wedding on Roseanne and Rupaul having a hit song and appearing in both Brady Bunch movies. I'm not saying homophobic slurs weren't popular. I know they were even still said commonly in the 2000s. I just feel like you're forgetting outside the conservative nature of executives and the older generation that gen x was actually working towards progress.
I hope they do a lot more chemistry building for the new younger cast. They need to have the authentic friendship and comfortability that the old cast had. You can tell the old cast wasn't afraid to be themselves and the old team wasn't expecting any more from them.
Yeah agreed. I like alot of the new cast (Lelia, and the siblings most) but they definitely could do more bonding outside the show to build up that legendary chemistry the OG cast had!
When watching That 70s Show, I really feel that the cast didnt get into their groove until mid way through season 2. In season one, of the kids, Topher and Danny were the only ones that could actually act. Mila and Laura were terrible early on. And Ashton and Wilmer were not very good either. But, they got better. So I think its only fair to give this new cast some time. The acting and the chemistry will most likely get much better the more they work together.
TBH, all these years, I never disliked Eric Forman until he addressed his daughter, "Leia Tattooine Forman..." and BAM just like that I really saw his dopey face and blank eyes and understood Red's disgust for his son completely.
I actually wish the show leaned more into the multicam sitcom setup. That could’ve helped it feel more 90s in my opinion. It’s lit and shot like a 2020’s show and it took me out of it at times. I think that’s where a lot of the charm of that 70s show came from.
I agree. When I was watching it I was trying to give it a break by thinking that the 70s show was not the greatest piece of tv ever and the reason why it was so good was because of the vibe and how they captured it. Nothing about the new show feels like it's about the 90s. literally nothing. Im not asking for references out the wazoo, but that 70s show you knew it was the 70s.
@@seth1665 The 90s reference felt super forced and in the realm of Family Guy's "remember that time" style. In the original I felt like the call backs and vision sequences actually played a purpose, but this time around it felt like they were trying to seem cool by just being knowledgeable? IDK, even the 90210 reference felt super forced and weird. Another issue I found, which nobody is talking about, is the fact that the show REALLY doesn't lend itself to the binge format. With That 70s Show, airing weekly actually helped it feel like REAL time passed with the characters. If Jackie said something like "It's been a week since Hyde and I broke up" you actually felt it because it HAD been a while since we last saw the characters. That 90s Show tried to do the same, but since we all binged it in a day or 2, it threw the pacing off imho. Sure, there were through lines in the plot, but I almost wish they did weekly releases. If they did, then maybe the **SPOILERS** cliffhanger with Leia and Nate wouldn't have felt so forced and out of nowhere since the audience hadn't JUST seen her with Jay in the previous episode. I still liked the show, and I hope it gets a solid 4-5 seasons (long haul by today's standards), but they for sure need to make it feel more 90s going forward. And if you want a great show that really felt like the 90s, I highly recommend "High School" on Amazon Freevee.
I think one of the biggest issues was that it was so short, like the original series had 20+ episodes per season, so going from 20 episodes to 10 really made a difference, the plot lines felt way too rushed and there wasn't enough time for the characters to really have that connection that the original friend group already kinda started with. SPOILER ALERT but there was literally no build up to Nate and Leia having feelings for each other and was very much out of the blue, and it's sort of the same with Leia and Jays relationship. I thought that they were cute but there was very little build up, and when comparing to the original show with Eric and Donna's relation ship there was SO much build up just in the first season. If they had more time the characters could have gotten fleshed out much more, so I'm hoping they get another season cause I really saw some potential in the show(that could just be me literally being able to enjoy anything though(literally give me a show thats really hated and I could probably enjoy it)) and I miss that 70s show and maybe in the second season we can get more Jackie cause literally the fact she was only there for 40ish seconds hurts.
It's like a poorly engineered rollercoaster just flopping up and down with no suspense or emotion whatsoever. I mean in the TINY amount of time they were allotted they decided to rush a relationship from cringy flirting to mad obsessive infatuation to then have it crash and burn. Only for it to resurface and settle and finally have it capsize and board a new ship (to follow an apt metaphor there lmao) as the credits roll. It is such inexcusable, sloppy and lazy excuse for writing. I understand that they possibly had time constraints and want to make a bombshell plot impact upon the first season to lure people in and convince Netflix producers it was not a waste of money, but it spends absolutely no time developing character, it doesn't even subtly try to speed it up it straight up rams it from 0 to 60 without warning into a wall. I mean even the immediate switch from what's-her-name (example of how unmemorable the characters are) and Leia becoming "best friends", followed by a petty argument leading to an obviously ephemeral seperation and are immediately back to being as thick as thieves. The whole point of the show is lost on me, it seems to have thrown 100 shots in the dark and missed every target audience in a futile attempt to appease them all. The bad acting, writing/pacing, awkward laugh tracks and induced awkwardness holds it back... in other words EVERYTHING. Literally the only salvageable thing here (maybe) is the concept. If executed entirely differently it may work... but even then it feels like the main cast were mentally checked ou from the get-go, and I wasn't convinced of their roles and characters like I was in the past. Especially Donna and Michael + Jackie... felt like they were there for courtesy to the seminal point in their respective careers or a hefty wad of cash. Either way I am sad it was so poorly executed and I will 100% finish it, for research purposes, no fr it may get slightly better but I doubt it with such a weaksauce first season.
I’m glad you mentioned that the Disney feel isn’t entirely on the actors, but on the entire team behind the show. I’ve seen a lot of comments about that where the blame is all on the teenage actors, when in reality if the director was doing their job in emulating the feel for the original they could’ve told the actors to do something differently, or the editors could have shifted focus onto something else.
I think it's worth noting how corporate heavy-handedness in recent media has taken a toll on these creative processes (directing, writing, editing) as well. We have generated media for adults and teens/children that is shaped more by investor returns than entertainment. While I am aware that this has been true throughout this history of film/television, its just so much more obvious.
I really appreciate how Alex went to check out that 70s show for a real comparison. That's how I felt too and glad I'm not alone bc the nostalgia worked too well on my bf
The new show was pretty decent for an og watcher, but you really cant beat the original show. Literally every main characters acting is incredible, and their timing for being so young is amazing, they seem like seasoned actors. Especially Kelso and Eric
I'm a fan of That's 70's show and I was hating just this 11 minutes of the new show. The old actors still have their chemstry and charm, but the new ones are stiff and spouting alot of word vomit instead of actual real dialogue.
@@nbassasin8092 No word vomit means all of their dialogue is overly long and convoluted, which leads to the scenes feeling like their dragging out. Which is not good writing especially for a comedy where timing is a key factor. I'm not mad at the kid actors I'm mad at the crap writing. @Maximus_W it rly did give off some i carly vibes. Hopefully, by s2, the cast gets more adjusted into their roles and the jokes hit better. I remember the first couple eps of 70s show had some p corny as hell moments as well
It's filmed like a sitcom but the acting feels forced and hackey, which afds to the nick at night feel. There's moments when the teens act like real kids that show potential but then it's goes back to "OMG look how zany we are it's the 90s." I was expecting a my so called life, Dawson's creek type of vibe but it feels like a one off live reunion.
The 6th episode of “That 70s show” is about Donna, Hyde, Kelso, and Eric finding a keg and ending up stealing the tap from Red. They should have brought that episode back of Leia now being the one to steal the tap for all of her friends rather than pretending to be a pregnant mom buying one. They had many opportunities to bring other scenarios from That 70s show into that 90s show
I felt exactly the same!! I enjoyed the dialogue and humor between the adults wayyy more than the kids! The kids were missing that friend kind of chemistry! I also thought the bag of weed they found was going to be stale asf considering it’s been yearrrssss! Lol I was like um what??
Weed loses half it's potency in just 5 years, and that's if it's dried and stored properly - i.e. in air tight glass containers in a climate controlled space. Stored in an old paper bag hidden in a board game box in a musty attic or basement? Yea, that stuff is gonna be as weak as smoking herbal tea, and that's assuming mold and mildew didn't destroy it.
I definitely think the acting, and writing could be better. I don't really feel the chemistry between the characters yet but I'm willing to give it a chance. I'm hoping season 2 will be a little better. I can see the potential in this cast. That first episode was pretty cheesy but it got slightly better through the season.
A full season of him as a father would be great for his career, if they did it properly. Honestly it'd be great for all the 70s casts careers. Even the ones who are doing incredibly.
Eric and Laurie were my absolute favorite characters! The Formans are epic! I would love to see the show around them and Eric being married to Donna (Even though I love him equally on Home Economics)
I HIGHLY recommend That 70s Show. It's so genuine, especially the early seasons. With The 90s show, I lost count the amount of times we cut to a scene and the characters are standing facing each other square on, *awkwardly* before they start speaking. That 70s Show had a dynamism that reflected well on teenagers - careening in and out of the rooms and things. It's clear that this is rendition is a paint by numbers approach with little to no heart/purpose other than to exist. No one is interesting enough, no two relationships are interesting enough.
This show has a lot of potential, it was catching its footing more and more with each episode. This new cast for sure deserves a chance. The biggest problem is this season was only 10 episodes, which was very different from that 70’s show first season. We needed more time to flesh these new characters out. I’m 100% sure there will be a season two.
I agree its the same thing i said. It definitely gets better as the season went on. They made the cast different enough that it dont feel like oh this just that 70s show all over again. I think we want copies of the old so much we dont give things chance to evolve i was laughing straight through
I totally agree too, I genuinely laughed at some scene, I wasn't bothered by the old cast not really coming back, the new kids are all very charming and have good character traits, some have more chemistry then others, but I liked seeing new faces, and old places / characters I loved !! Yes, some dialogues were corny, but I absolutely didn't mind, the actors look their age (because they actually are) thank you Netflix for putting teen as teen!! Also; I loved the cameo, Brian Austin Green and Jim Rash were so fun to watch. But like, the hightlight is Kitty and Red, they didn't age a single bit and they are so fun to watch play off of each other
They already *minor spoilers* had Kitty become the school nurse, so Leia is most likely going to attend school and live with Kitty/Red, not just visit. The cast really grew on me after about four episodes in. I enjoyed it pretty well. No major red flags on production either which was a good sign
Not if people keep beign overly negative about season 1. It's Netflix remember that, they'll only continue the show is they see enough dollar signs potential
Jackie Burkhart is not the “rebellious spitfire” of the original show 😂 And I think one big difference between the two shows is that Eric & his friends were an established group. Besides Fez, who was a foreign exchange student, they’d all known each other since childhood. For a long long time. In the reboot, Leia is new to the group. I haven’t finished the episodes, so I don’t know if they’ve explained how long Gwen and the others have been friends though. Also, the age differences are very apparent. Mila was the youngest of the original group (because she wasn’t super honest about her age lol) and the others were like around 20ish. These kids all seem pretty young. Debra Jo & Kurtwood carry the show, along with the other legacy cast cameos.
There is absolutely no way that I believe Leia wouldn't have at some point met Jay before this. Like even if for some reason Eric and Donna didn't stay friends at all with Kelso and Jackie they would have at least had their kids that are the same age play together as kids or hang out at some holiday function or something. (Maybe they do say that at some point, I also haven't finished it.)
Gwen and nate are siblings, nate and jay have been friends for 12 years, nate and Nikki have been dating for 6 months, Gwen met Ozzie in detention the previous year. I enjoyed it. I feel like it should have been set in 97 or 98 instead of 95 but that's for continuity. I would have also liked to have seen the "romance" "will they, won't they" dragged out to the season finale
And that one did alright both in terms of fan service and in terms of making it into multiple seasons. I'm a bit curious why they opted for Eric and Donna to have a daughter, but I can't imagine it really mattering too much, but it does allow for some different plot lines in the future.
The first season needed more episodes and better character development 😬 Also idk if directors are more strict now but they all seem so stiff... before the show ended up using some bloopers because the cast was more loose and relatable but this one it feels like they're not even listening to each other talk they're just waiting for each of their individual lines 🤔
As far as these reboot/revision/update things go, I think Raven's Home does a pretty good job of it. There are still adventures and plots with Raven and Chelsea, which appeals to older fans, while also sharing the spotlight with their kids to introduce the new characters. There was usually two plots per episode, and Raven and Chelsea may have been split sometimes, but they still got to have great moments together. Girl Meets World, for example, does not have much surrounding Cory and Topanga as adults. Each parent is normally split off into different situations in the episodes (Cory with the main four and Topanga with Auggie). The only thing that had the potential to draw in the old audience was when Boy Meets World characters would cameo, but the show itself did not have that same pull that Boy Meets World had
Weirdly, despite the show being about the teenagers, I think Sherri is the best character of the season. I thought the storyline of her seeing her dad in Red, and him ultimately deciding to do what her father didn’t do for her, was the only genuinely emotional beat in the season, and one that should carry over into season 2. Red setting Sherri on the right path, having a chance to succeed where he failed with Laurie, and actually have a daughter he’s proud of, could be a great way to take the story.
@@justwannafreefx9419 That’s an issue I had with the handling of the original cast in general, which I really picked up on when Kitty sees Pastor Dave in the adult section of the video store. They’re constantly taking jabs at and undoing growth from the previous series. Kelso is back with Jackie after she abused him, and he had learned to grow up and take responsibility for his life through his daughter and Brooke. Jackie apparently is back to being just as awful as she was in the early seasons of That 70s Show, negating her growth in the later seasons. Fez’s heart and innocence is completely stripped, leaving a sleaziness to everything he does and says. He feels more like Barney from How I Met your Mother. Hyde and Laurie aren’t even mentioned. It goes on, and the original series had its share of disrespecting characters, (R.I.P Charlie) But I’d prefer the show to make more efforts to show how the original cast has improved for the better, as opposed to devolving them, or keeping them pathetically the same.
@@justwannafreefx9419 I'm not sure how they're going to handle that as one of the two actresses that played her died. Unlike the other cast members that died, only one of the actresses who played her died, so whatever they do is going to be kind of a knock at one of them.
@@SmallSpoonBrigade I mean isn't it strange that it's 4th of July and one kid has brought the entire family but the other kid isn't even mentioned? It's not going to be easy, but I'm sure there are ways to address this I felt this particularly hard in the episode where Red helps the blonde lady (can't remember her name) ride a bike. It felt like the perfect opportunity for something genuine and heartfelt, where he could help another woman who was so much like his daughter. Just one mention of her would have made it so much more rewarding
That's EXACTLY what I've been saying. We, fans of the original show, relate we the now adults characters. I wanted the show to be more focused on them. On their adulthood, on being parents to teenagers...
I'm a fan of the original and definitely think That 70's Show was better, but I enjoyed the new one. I wasn't sold in the first few episodes and the show has some key weaknesses throughout, but it got some good laughs out of me, some second hand embarrassment, a few good moments of nostalgia and by the end of it, I actually started caring about the characters. I'm excited to see how the show will develop. Just like That 70's Show, I think it'll get better and feel more rounded as it goes on.
i had the same opinions after watching the pilot but it honestly does get better with each episode. all the kids seem to slowly get into their roles as it goes on. not to mention most of them 15-17 years old and its the first big thing they've acted in. i think it has potential as they get older and have more of a chance to find the characters and just have more experience in general
Uhhh no, the first episode was best. Or least worst. Then all the old characters barely appear and they go into character development of the new empty characters with fake laugh tracks behind every cringe line.
Yeah it did not get better. I thought there were very little differences between Gwen and the new 'Jackie' and their characters were both boring anyway. The main character is not a good person since she cant decided if she likes boy A and then suddenly has a connection with boy B (cant remember names lol) (Actually felt a smidge more chemistry between Leia and Boy B and wish they'd just started with them to begin) Boy A couldn't seem to figure out what stereotype he was doing. He was the smart kid but also a Kelso... So acting dumb and making stupid choices but doing well in school.... I wasn't really getting it. And the rest of the characters were kinda forgettable. I only laughed when the old characters came back.

I was obsessed with that 70s show growing up. Ep 1 was a nice nostalgia trip. Sure alot of the ep were retreads of earlier seasons of 70s show but over all I would say it stood up on its own towards the end. It does feel like it was written for fans of previous show
I haven't seen it yet but I actually like the comparison. I was a fan of 70s show and I like that the kids are doing similar things to what the previous cast did. I think it will age okay if it's given a chance. 😁
Yeah it definitely feels like a disney channel show at the beginning. I feel like it gets better as it goes along. But I do feel like the "friend group" really just feels like a bunch of people in a room together rather than people who have been friends for a long time.
I actually really enjoyed it! It started off iffy, cameos and scenes w/ the og characters were great but the new kiddos gave off a real PG Disney channel vibe. But by the end, the kiddos seemed more relaxed & I found myself laughing. The neighbor mom really grew on me too. The nostalgia itch was satisfied 😭 Hope there’s a season 2, the last episodes felt rushed.
I totally agree, the characters and friendship felt forced in the beginning of the reboot but it did get better! As a fan of the og too, I loved the character build for Fez, Red and Kitty
The new show is definitely strongest when the old cast is around. However, the new cast improves MASSIVELY by the end of the season. You can tell that they clearly got more comfortable with the job / each other, and I’m genuinely looking forward to a season 2
@@divinelyprotected144 Gwen is okay by me, especially considering she lets Leia know that being herself is enough when they first met. But my worst pick is definitely Ozzie. They just haddd to make the gay character corny as hell..though I do love the scene with him and Kitty!
@@johnindigo5477 Yes! I'm really hoping they add more depth to his character if they make season two. But mostly all we got so far is Snarky Comment, Gay Comment, rinse and repeat.
I agree completely. The pilot especially made me think I might not enjoy the show but I got more and more invested the further I got into the show. Watching literal children in sexual situations made me feel very uncomfortable, however. I feel that if they used older actors and aged up the characters a couple of years it would’ve improved things a lot.
They could have named Hyde since Hyde is a fictional character. Just bc he was played by Masterson they're gonna ignore the existence of a major character? Dumb. They could have at least said "Hyde called, he's off doing this and that" or have Leo reference him. But not one mention... feels unreal.
You should review puss in boots-the last wish. It’s FREAKING AMAZING. The villain is horrifying, the characters are well thought out, and it isn’t one of those movies that assumes kids are stupid and need everything simplified. There’s actually a panic attack scene, which is amazing for a kids film. Please try this movie!!!
It's not that 70's show... but I actually enjoyed every minute of it. I felt nostalgic, I loved the cameos... and by the end of the season, I felt that the new cast grew on me
As a person who loved that 70's show, and it's still one of my favorites and I re-watch it from time to time, you nailed it all. I was so disappointed w/ that 90's show, because clearly it's trying to appeal to Milliniel, who not only watched that 70's show, but (hello) grew up in the 90's! It's like feeding all that nostalgia good feels.... on paper. But the writing and acting is SO weak and bad. Like I feel like this is a perfect example of AI that probably wrote most of this show - this is what it spits out. Generic story, re-used jokes, no subtext or real character development. The actors aren't seasoned enough, and the writing is terrible - and it's painful to watch. WHO DID they write the show for? Why try to get a newer generation in on it - if they don't even know why they should like it? All the re-boots have been terrible, I haven't been able to get past like 3 episodes of any of them (or 15 min into a movie). Thank you for sharing, glad everyone here feels the same.
The comparisons to Disney Channel shows was my exact reaction when I saw the trailers. But everyone keeps saying the show is good. As someone who loved the original I’m willing to give it a chance. I’ve just got to accept this is what most modern sitcoms are now
Good is a matter of opinion. It feels very much like what I was personally doing that summer in roughly the same part of the country, so I'm going to be in favor of it, even if people with less of a connection don't care for it. I do think it's worth recognizing that not everything needs to be for everybody and there's probably more episodes that will drop later this year, so who knows where it goes from here. This is probably just the start and the start of That 70's Show wasn't really that great.
I don’t think I’ve ever laughed genuinely at a video but your humor is so funny. Like if anyone else did this it would be annoying. But everything about the way you do it is perfect. And your art style is super good and whenever you do the close ups I bust out laughing. Please please please keep up this amazing work
The only real thing I didn't like is that a lot of the original characters didn't have a lot of screen time, and were just basically cameo spots. You need a good balance between the original and new characters to make shows like these good. I give Cobra Kai as a good example of doing this. I actually wanted to see more of how Eric was as a parent
I think a major reason why these reboots feel off is that just a few years ago, it would take a lot longer time to make movies and TV. Since it took longer, people usually took greater care to make sure that they're getting each little element of the show right, whether that be the casting and the chemistry, whether it be the lines, a lot of the time it's most notable in the pacing of the episodes, etc... Now that's technology is better and streaming services exist, which drop tons of the season at once, the incentive is to get the product out there as quick as possible quantum so a lot of the quality is lost.
Thank you, my literal reaction to this show was they basically modeled it after girl meets world. Also worth noting that all the kids grew up in the mid 10s (grew up watching girl meets world) so take their acting for what it is
@@cky7765 bro what the dude who plays kelso son was in Nicky Ricky dicky and dawn yk who else was on that show? Number 5 from umbrella academy just cuz ur young don’t mean u have to reflect that in your acting. He is 17 and played a murderer these are just terrible
I actually liked it. They really got their groove going by the second half of the season. Honestly it did remind me of the first season of 70’s. That show in my opinion didn’t truly hits it groove till mid through the second season. The first season of 70’s show was OK I would say. I think the 90’s show has potential. If Netflix lets it that is 😒
I really enjoyed the original That 70s Show. This new show is ok, but I agree with you about the actors and the chemistry. When the original actors appear on the new show, they immediately fall back into their old selves, and are believable. However, the new kids are very one dimensional "Disney Channel" characters like you said. The show also doesn't feel like it's the 90s, where as the original really hit you over the head (in a good nostalgic way) that it was the 70s.
I cannot stress enough of how That ‘90s Show just feels like something Disney or other related platform would make. The original cast were the only bearable ones
Ehh the whole younger cast got better as time went on. Took about till episode 7 where they stop over acting. Idk felt like the old show and I liked it. Hope it gets a season two.
I agree with Alex of the chemistry of the actors, in that 90's show is just not there. It feels they are reciting and the laugh tracks just make it worse. Some times the joke lands but usually for it didn't. Though Rex an Kitty killed it ❤
“Who was this for?” Is the exact question I asked myself. That 70’s Show was my jam, but I’m 35 now, and I watched That 90’s Show and thought, “Why do they look like younger, duller versions of the original cast? And why so young?” Like it was a little kids’ show with drugs 🤷🏽♀️ I would have preferred just seeing the original cast in the 90’s
Here's a better question, Red and Kitty caught the kids with pot in the orignal show. How come they did'nt sweep the basement for more when everyone finally moved out? Red especially would've done that once Hyde left.
I legitimately loved both shows. They were both so funny in my opinion and also tender when it mattered and despite some weird things I didn’t like I truly can’t wait for season 2 of That 90’s Show due to how well I think they captured why everyone loved That 70’s Show in the first place
That 90s show just doesn’t match the looseness of that 70s show and the fun of it. The jokes and smoothness just isn’t there…. Good to see the old cast though. That 70s show felt like a good and somewhat mature sitcom, that 90s shown feels like a Disney sitcom
I thought the same until after the third episode. It needed to find its footing and it because less Disney. I hope they keep it around and the kids can become their own characters
I binged it the night it came out and enjoyed it. However, I had the same response you did to some of the dialogue haha I thought it was weird that it felt like a 'mature' Disney show at times haha The girl they have playing Eric & Donna's daugther was a great pick because she has the quirkiness of her dad which makes it weird that they don't get along that well since they're so alike in how they carry themselves. I don't think 10 episodes was enough to flesh out the other teens so yeah, it didn't seem fully believable that they'd all hang around in the same social circle or in this case basement circle. Red & Kitty carried this reboot. I'm actually intrigued for a Season 2 with hopefully 20 episodes or so. Score: 7.5/10
Netflix recommended this show to me, but I'm not going to waste my time watching this show especially if it's bad. Also, I've never seen that 70's show so I have no business watching this anyway.
The first half of the season was carried by nostalgia and cameos, but then the new cast really came into their own during the second half. Can't wait for season 2.
I liked it. That 70s Show was a huge part of my teenage years and I related to the characters so much (my friends and I even used to even do the circle). But I also really enjoyed this. It does take a couple of episodes to get into but it gets its footing pretty quick. I didn't expect it to be nearly as good as the original so maybe that's why, but I'm excited for a season 2. Even just to see Red and Kitty again (but I did enjoy the teenage storylines as well).
As a fan of That 70s Show, I happened to like That 90s Show as well. The show is a pretty good follow-up to its predecessor unlike whatever That 80s Show tried to be back in the 2000s. But That 70s Show is still funnier. I also think that it's a waaaay better successor to its parent series (no pun intended) compared to Girl Meets World. GMW was just pure cringe, laughably melodramatic, and it barely tries to respect the BMW lore. There was a good balance between the old and new cast members. The casting of Leia and Kelso's son was perfect. Leia also seems to share both aspects of Eric and Donna. I also wanted to see how Kelso's daughter Betsy might appear in That 90s Show. She was born in 1979 and would've been around 15-16 years old in 1995. It's a shame that Hyde probably won't be in this series. He was one of my favorite characters too...oof! 😮💨 I thought the kids did alright and they seem to be finding their feet by the end of the season. Keep in mind that most of the new cast are also younger this time around unlike how the original cast members got started (Mila Kunis was the only teenager during the earlier seasons).
I watched that 70's show a couple years ago so I don't have any nostalgia for it, but it's one of my favorite shows out there, so i was pretty interested in seeing more of the show now. but i agree with everything in this video, it felt like they were trying to replace the old cast with new people i couldn't care less about. and it totally does feel like a disney channel show. i did miss seeing red and kitty though, it's super fun to see them again!
That 90's Show doesn't really look bad, the thing is, you can tell by it's more cleaner look compared to the more rougher look...yeah, it shows on that.
Oh wow they're actually doing "That '90s Show," I thought they learned their lesson when they tried to do "That '80s Show" back in 2002 (while "That '70s Show" was still running) that barely even managed a whole season but at least this time around they actually gave enough time between the setting and airing.
It managed half a season and part of that has to do with the fact that DVR wasn't a thing at the time, so it didn't just have to draw attention, but it had to get people to tune in when it aired or bother with a VCR to record it. And yeah, moving things around killed a lot of otherwise good shows back then. I remember seeing a few episodes of something that got canceled and learned years later that there were episodes aired that I never say because they were scheduled funny.
i think the chemistry thing is that in the old cast the characters had been friends for years meanwhile in that 90s show leia is meeting them for the first time and only has like 2 months to hang out with them
That doesn't explain the lack of chemistry between the actors. The actors of 90s show were just as new to each other as the actors of That 70s Show. Fez was a new friend to them, but the chemistry was still there.
I don’t think the 10 episode limit helps it but I think it finds itself halfway through the season, I hope there is a season 2 and I really hope it’s more then 10 episodes.
You nailed it with it feeling like Girl Meets World- Leia immediately made me think of a slightly edgier Riley, she's awkward in similar ways and it felt like she was going for the same kind of vibe entirely (though I guess a bit more overtly dorky)
I loved that 70s show and I really liked that 90s show, the characters take a little while to grow on you but I hope Leia and the gang get to continue to develop
The first couple episodes were loaded with cringe (the bad type)…. But it honestly got wayyyy funnier the more the episodes went on lol. I almost didn’t keep watching but the old cast like fez coming back & red just being red (kitty too!) I had some really good laughs… the new kids especially the main character tho are tough to watch 😂 I hope she gets better
The fact that Netflix made the 90s show but doesn't have 70s show makes me question my existence
Seems normal to me. Anything you might want to see has to be on different channels to increase the flow of your cash out of your wallet. It's like a law or something.
Whenever netflix makes a reboot or sequel to something, they dont have the original. Because then you'd watch the original.

So true. I wish I could like your comment 500 times.
A lot of TV and movies feel that way now. Like studios hired a bunch of kid writers to save money without anyone experienced leading the writing room.
my biggest complaint is that the kids don't feel like 90's kids at all, it's like you said: it's like watching a disney channel sitcom. the cadance and tone is identical to those shows whenever the kids are on screen and it's almost like watching a high school theater group perform on stage
tbf it is all these actors first major role so the feeling will probably improve with more seasons
I’m going to give them a chance and hope the show and acting gets better in season 2. Sitcoms usually have bleh acting and ups and downs in the show during the first season. So I hope Netflix doesn’t count it out like it usually does with sitcoms after season 1
It's easier for 18 year olds in the 90s to act like they're in the 70s than it is for teens in 2020 to act like they're in the 90s.
@@Mason-is4mr for real. Probably because of how much we progressed in those 20 years
I think that was intentional, they are trying to get some viewers from Disney

I went back to watch 'That 70's show' just recently and what caught my eye was just how great the acting is.

And maybe becuase I saw the show when I was 6 for the first time, but the cast was just insanly cool. They weren't really popular or outcast, just a really cool group of kids.

Good point. It would need to be produced by 80s babies.

With this show, it really is like they saw Girl Meets World & thought "Yea. We can do that."

You hit the nail on the head about the chemistry. Imagine if the creators of that 70s show said they had 10 episodes to tell their story. It would have been way, way different, there's no time to really develop any characters.
I hope they do a lot more chemistry building for the new younger cast. They need to have the authentic friendship and comfortability that the old cast had. You can tell the old cast wasn't afraid to be themselves and the old team wasn't expecting any more from them.
Probably because these are kids and only young one in og was mila.
I feel like the chemistry is much better in season 1 of 90's than it was in season 1 of 70's
To be fair, the new cast has a lot more pressure to meet the nostalgia standard. The old cast didn't really have that.

I actually wish the show leaned more into the multicam sitcom setup. That could’ve helped it feel more 90s in my opinion. It’s lit and shot like a 2020’s show and it took me out of it at times. I think that’s where a lot of the charm of that 70s show came from.
This ! 👏👏👏
Bruh that’s expressive as hell and they didn’t have the biggest budget.
@@tayawalter4741 I was with you till you said you wanted 4- 5 seasons 🤦🏾😹
If they had more time the characters could have gotten fleshed out much more, so I'm hoping they get another season cause I really saw some potential in the show(that could just be me literally being able to enjoy anything though(literally give me a show thats really hated and I could probably enjoy it)) and I miss that 70s show and maybe in the second season we can get more Jackie cause literally the fact she was only there for 40ish seconds hurts.
episodes were 20 minutes this one each episode is an hour
I think it's like an extended pilot. I think if we get a season 2 it will be a lot more "situated"
@@imanevilbunneh whatt? each episode was like 20-30 mins
@iLLest Villain great take I usually dint read long comments but that was pretty good
I’m glad you mentioned that the Disney feel isn’t entirely on the actors, but on the entire team behind the show.
The thing is that the 70s really felt like the 70s. And this one feels like something except the 90s.
I mwan 70s mostly felt like the 70s becuase most of us were not alive in the 70s. We have reference for the 90s but i think they did a decent job
Definitely doesn't help that that 90's show uses sets from that 70's show...
Yes, a recent show that is set in the 90’s and really feels like it is Everything Sucks (I’m still mad at Netflix for cancelling it)
Seems pretty woke for the 90s
First of all i guarantee a small town in Wisconsin doesn’t have as much diversity as they have in this new cast.
@@Cloud-dt6xb they are kids... relax a bit
@@nbassasin8092 No word vomit means all of their dialogue is overly long and convoluted, which leads to the scenes feeling like their dragging out. Which is not good writing especially for a comedy where timing is a key factor. I'm not mad at the kid actors I'm mad at the crap writing. The older actors still have the snappy timing and chemstriy in their dialogue which makes me think they were allowed to improv alot.

It’s not that it’s just back in the 90s and 2000s writers had more freedom now they basically have to adhere to certain social constructs

My husband and I kept talking about how ‘Disney-fied’ that 90’s show was. To be fair though, i had higher hopes for the show and that’s solely on me 😂
I thought the same. I was telling my friend this reminds me of late 2000s Nickelodeon or Disney!

There's moments when the teens act like real kids that show potential but then it's goes back to "OMG look how zany we are it's the 90s."
I was expecting a my so called life, Dawson's creek type of vibe but it feels like a one off live reunion.
@@thechuube8442 I'm curious too, pilots and early season 1 of almost every show ever are nowhere near the quality the show ends up being
Gotta say man, I love how far your animation has gone from when you started. Love what you're doing!
They had many opportunities to bring other scenarios from That 70s show into that 90s show
As someone who just had a child that animation of "fear of having kids" is very....... accurate
Nobody asked
I felt exactly the same!! I enjoyed the dialogue and humor between the adults wayyy more than the kids! The kids were missing that friend kind of chemistry! I also thought the bag of weed they found was going to be stale asf considering it’s been yearrrssss! Lol I was like um what??
Weed loses half it's potency in just 5 years, and that's if it's dried and stored properly - i.e. in air tight glass containers in a climate controlled space. Stored in an old paper bag hidden in a board game box in a musty attic or basement? Yea, that stuff is gonna be as weak as smoking herbal tea, and that's assuming mold and mildew didn't destroy it.
yeah as a stoner myself (i live in a legal state) if i let weed sit for even a month without smoking it, it gets nasty and less potent
I did like the upstairs circle 🤣 you're upstairs people now 🤣 the old cast were classic!
Yeah the only reason it was good was Red Kitty and the original cast making appearances.
I definitely think the acting, and writing could be better. I don't really feel the chemistry between the characters yet but I'm willing to give it a chance. I'm hoping season 2 will be a little better. I can see the potential in this cast. That first episode was pretty cheesy but it got slightly better through the season.
That 90s show should be more about how Eric handles being a dad. Eric should still be the main character.
Yea but the only thing would be that there’s no way Topher Grace would do it
@@israelrocha2878 why? Because he doesn't have time?
A full season of him as a father would be great for his career, if they did it properly. Honestly it'd be great for all the 70s casts careers. Even the ones who are doing incredibly.
i personally had enough of Eric the first time around. why is there a problem with having a whole new set of characters? It's refreshing.
Eric and Laurie were my absolute favorite characters!
The Formans are epic! I would love to see the show around them and Eric being married to Donna
(Even though I love him equally on Home Economics)
I HIGHLY recommend That 70s Show. It's so genuine, especially the early seasons. With The 90s show, I lost count the amount of times we cut to a scene and the characters are standing facing each other square on, *awkwardly* before they start speaking. That 70s Show had a dynamism that reflected well on teenagers - careening in and out of the rooms and things. It's clear that this is rendition is a paint by numbers approach with little to no heart/purpose other than to exist. No one is interesting enough, no two relationships are interesting enough.
I love that 70's show, but the only reason I watched that 90's show was to see the old cast
Jackie Burkhart is not the “rebellious spitfire” of the original show 😂
And I think one big difference between the two shows is that Eric & his friends were an established group.
The only reason to let this show keep going is to see how Eric reacts to Episode I.
The ‘Girl Meets World’ connection was the first one I made. Both shows felt exactly alike to me.
Because filming a TV show in the 90s was astronomically different than filming a TV show in 2020
As far as these reboot/revision/update things go, I think Raven's Home does a pretty good job of it.
“Guess who’s into Scientology now!” is my favorite game.
Weirdly, despite the show being about the teenagers,
I think Sherri is the best character of the season.
I was kind of disappointed that the show seemed to have forgotten about Laurie
@@justwannafreefx9419
That’s an issue I had with the handling of the original cast in general, which I really picked up on when Kitty sees Pastor Dave in the adult section of the video store.
It goes on, and the original series had its share of disrespecting characters,
(R.I.P Charlie)
But I’d prefer the show to make more efforts to show how the original cast has improved for the better, as opposed to devolving them, or keeping them pathetically the same.
@@justwannafreefx9419 I'm not sure how they're going to handle that as one of the two actresses that played her died. Unlike the other cast members that died, only one of the actresses who played her died, so whatever they do is going to be kind of a knock at one of them.

It definitely feels like an edgy Disney channel show, which is kinda funny
i had the same opinions after watching the pilot but it honestly does get better with each episode. all the kids seem to slowly get into their roles as it goes on. not to mention most of them 15-17 years old and its the first big thing they've acted in. i think it has potential as they get older and have more of a chance to find the characters and just have more experience in general
Uhhh no, the first episode was best. Or least worst. Then all the old characters barely appear and they go into character development of the new empty characters with fake laugh tracks behind every cringe line.
Bruh it felt like Disney Channel
Im at episide 2 and allready im pondering if i will make it to episode 3...
Yeah it did not get better. I thought there were very little differences between Gwen and the new 'Jackie' and their characters were both boring anyway. The main character is not a good person since she cant decided if she likes boy A and then suddenly has a connection with boy B (cant remember names lol)
(Actually felt a smidge more chemistry between Leia and Boy B and wish they'd just started with them to begin) Boy A couldn't seem to figure out what stereotype he was doing. He was the smart kid but also a Kelso... So acting dumb and making stupid choices but doing well in school.... I wasn't really getting it. And the rest of the characters were kinda forgettable. I only laughed when the old characters came back.

It's like feeding all that nostalgia good feels.... on paper. But the writing and acting is SO weak and bad.

Kitty and Red carried the show but the new cast still did a pretty good job, some parts were cringy but they were a lot better than I anticipated.
THANK GOD , man I thought I was getting old and this is just how my parents saw that 70s show while I grew up
The only real thing I didn't like is that a lot of the original characters didn't have a lot of screen time, and were just basically cameo spots.

Says “I found your old Nintendo” pulls out play station
Fun fact the PlayStation was made out of spite
I cannot stress enough of how That ‘90s Show just feels like something Disney or other related platform would make. The original cast were the only bearable ones
@Don't Read My Profile Photo 🤓
Leia was pretty good in my opinion I could see how in 2 3 seasons once she's grown into the role more.
i hate the jokes
Easily impressed.
@@UltrafineDeluxe no, just more positive than most :)
20 years later, Kitty is still obsessed with him
That 90s show just doesn’t match the looseness of that 70s show and the fun of it.
That’s 70s show intro is another reason it’s so good!!😂👏🏽
It definitely was a sequel forced out of a story that didn’t have anymore story to tell.
But I enjoyed it a lot more than I expected it to.
I think it would of worked better if they actually used the original cast more than they did
I binged it the night it came out and enjoyed it. However, I had the same response you did to some of the dialogue haha I thought it was weird that it felt like a 'mature' Disney show at times haha
The girl they have playing Eric & Donna's daugther was a great pick because she has the quirkiness of her dad which makes it weird that they don't get along that well since they're so alike in how they carry themselves.
I.... I had no idea this was even a thing..... how deep am I in my little bubble that I'm left so blissfully unaware of shows like this!?
They only dropped a trailer or 2 and that was really it so missing it isn't impossible.
Netflix recommended this show to me, but I'm not going to waste my time watching this show especially if it's bad. Also, I've never seen that 70's show so I have no business watching this anyway.
Luck?
The first half of the season was carried by nostalgia and cameos, but then the new cast really came into their own during the second half. Can't wait for season 2.
They missed the opportunity to reference Orange Is The New Black by suggesting that Donna dyed her hair black and back to red (really orange).
I thought the kids did alright and they seem to be finding their feet by the end of the season.
That 90's Show doesn't really look bad, the thing is, you can tell by it's more cleaner look compared to the more rougher look...yeah, it shows on that.
the problem is it doesn’t resemble the 90s at all
0:48 that joke made me laugh so hard i got lightheaded from all the coughing
Fez was a new friend to them, but the chemistry was still there.
i liked it enough. if they make more i'll check it out
but yeah, the old cast moments are easily the best parts
I don’t think the 10 episode limit helps it but I think it finds itself halfway through the season, I hope there is a season 2 and I really hope it’s more then 10 episodes.
You nailed it with it feeling like Girl Meets World- Leia immediately made me think of a slightly edgier Riley, she's awkward in similar ways and it felt like she was going for the same kind of vibe entirely (though I guess a bit more overtly dorky)
The Candy Land stash is actually canon. There's an episode of That 70s Show about it.
