- Cynic paid a visit to Party Stage at Wacken Open Air 2008. The band celebrated its reunion one year earlier and the band of two ex-Death members, Paul Masvidal and Sean Reinert, was eager to perform and obvously longed for by the audience of Wacken #19!

R.I.P Sean Reinert. What a sad day for music.
what the fuck?
Juan Martín Caballero Paredes indeed . His drumming was/ is an inspiration.
Saddest month for drummers.
@@The_Other_Ghost Indeed. Not only him, but also Neil Peart...
@@andreeuuetoa282 Drummer of Warzone too.
Paul sitting down playing that outro riff while smiling like a kid in a candy store is one of my favourite images in music
Yes, that part is very wholesome
I come here just to see it once every month
The most phlegmatic frontman in heavy metal.
So cool!
Hail Cynic!
I also rember smiling faces of Death members at the end of their The Philosopher music video
the dude air drumming while sitting on his friend's shoulders is an absolute legend.
His friend is also a legend for his holding him up for so long
I think that’s his son...
On the 1993 tour, Sean setup his drum set sideways and he started this song off with the lil drum computer pads!!!! The show was great, FLAWLESS!!!!! RIP BROTHER!!!!!
@Napalm Mike 🤦♂️🤦♂️
@Napalm Mike both good bands. So you're saying you even hate bands like Death who are the pioneers Death Metal, Death became a pretty technical band.. even then all of Deaths albums are masterpieces
The Metal comunity can't still comprehend the HUGE contribution of this dudes, mainly Masvidal and Reinert,to the modern Metal,His influence is everywhere.
Tony Echeverría. Obscura is heavily influenced by them.
Because they're metalheads, if the band isn't make up like clowns or they're didn't burning churches in the 90's, it doesn't not count as influence for them.
Malone too
@@NIB1306 That's a stupid generalization, and you know it.
@@VideoMask93 I give a damn fuck, you little sissy.
Saw Cynic last night. Paul is a humble guy, they played Focus without pause and then Paul stoped to exsorcise the bad spirits from the audience, he almost broke twice, after integral and after Aurora, played like posessed. A great human soul. Why did he named his band Cynic? Because of Diogenes maybe, Pauls is man who values the sunlight more than any treasure. Aurora
Sean Reinert gave us one of the greatest metal drumming performances on the “Human” album. Another unbelievable talent taken too soon. Sincerest condolences to his family and friends.
RIP Sean.
It s a joke Sean was taken so soon, what an amazing man and a brilliant drummer. Life suck shit. RIP Sean
I lived in Orlando when Human was released. My place was maybe 3miles from Chuck's house. Sean's playing blew me away. RIP BROTHER MUSICIAN.
I love seeing Paul sitting at the edge of the stage. Just that one gesture alone makes him seem like such a humble guy. You never see anyone sitting at metal shows, haha. Bless that man and his beautiful music.
+Antonio Villa They eventually broke up, because he became an egomanic. I would not have thought that of him, though.
+Mars Topia well, that was never confirmed. Just Sean trash talking, and Paul had not even released much of a rebuttal. Honestly, with Paul remaining silent, Sean is the one seeming to posses too large of an ego.
We will know what really happened and why in maybe 5-10 years haha
BTW, Tymon agreed on that aspect with Sean via facebook
Antonio Villa yes, that is lovely of him. Just sitting there, like a humble busker.
Well, the drummer’s sitting. Right?
R.I.P SEAN & SEAN I CANT BELIEVE YOU ARE GONE...WE WERE NOT WORTHY!!!!
truer now than ever
RIP Sean. Gone but will never be forgotten
Both Seans now.. :( Rip
Sean Reinert: the Stewart Copeland of metal.
Diego Sebastian Velazquez that was an awesome comment..I wish I had thought of that myself!
Underrated comment.
RIP 😔
No no he's the one and only sean reinart.stew could never do what sean did.no comparison needed.
Rip
3:53 - one of the most breathtaking moments in music I have ever experienced in my life. Solo is mindblowing, just as Paul's riff.
Leonid Isachenko Absolutely !!!
***** :) sometimes I feel the same, it touches me everytime I listen to it, so good.
Leonid Isachenko
Seriously though. That outro is fuckin' glorious. Sick ass solo over the top of a sick ass riff. Always get chills when listening.
Crooken I couldn't have said that better myself..
The progression at the end is one of the finest bits of metal writing I have ever encountered..
Sounds like Castlevania !
Wacken please, we need the entire show...thanks for this upload!! greetings
+Carlos Alberto Nieto why i can`t like this coment again? we NEED the entire show!!
Dont forget Chuck!
I asked too..
Still waiting
Masvidal in ending is like, "I'll tell y'all a story"
He's telling us that same old Nursery Rhyme we're all too familiar with...
"Row, Row, Row your Boat, Gently down The Stream..."
"Paddle Upon the Clouds One's Own Canoe..."
R.I.P. Sean. You changed the game.
The absolute and pure joy on Sean and Paul’s face during the final solo is the greatest thing.
You can tell they were really cooking and this was just the perfect ending to their set.
RIP Sean Reinert. I was at this performance and I was so happy to have a chance to see them play.
My friend is gone. Rest in Peace.
Sean Reinert's creativity on drums is sublime...
Sean, you absolute master. To your husband and family; take comfort knowing that Sean had a massive impact globally on many many people. His voice through the drums has been captured for the rest of time. I am sorry for your loss, but thank you for sharing him with us.
THANK YOU, MASTER SEAN REINERT!🙏❤🙌🕊
I will always come back to this, I watch this regularly. This is a document of striking beauty. Sean’s extraordinary contributions will never be forgotten…at least not by me. I love it when Paul takes a seat. A complete boss. Watching this brings me much joy….
Very happy to read this - thanks for enjoying a piece of metal art!
That guy at 1:01 knows... Sean will be truly missed.
A great drumming legend left us. R.I.P. Sean! You'll never be forgotten.👏😢👏
Paul is an absolute Bodhisattva. Man, how I would love to spend a day in that guys head, viewing the world through his eyes. For someone as seminal as him in metal, he could very well project himself with the bloated ego of Glen Benton (except Paul actually earned it) but he just comes off as such a humble guy with a childlike penchant for learning and the know how to teach/heal through his music.
4:00 Paul looks so happy. I love this band
RIP Sean Malone... this album changed my life 🙏 ❤
This song has THE BEST SOLO EVER. PERIOD.
Check out the Cynic song Pleading for Preservation.
@@DaveOJ amazing solo and riffs, shame it wasn't included in focus.
Necrophagist - Fermneted Offal Discharge.
Is the best.
@@Lu1zh1 it's okay, how could i is better though
@@Lu1zh1 Fermented Offal Discharge? Advanced Corpse Tumor and Symbiotic in Theory!
3:53 probably, the happiest moment in metal history :3
So touching and moving!
It's just mesmerizing. Great drummer, great bass player and there is a flow to the whole thing that just keeps going. Very tight playing, great effort as a band. The best part is of course at the end where Paul just sits there on the stage with a serene smile, a wall of sound surrounding him and 50,000 thousand people watching. A-ma-zing stuff.

R.I.P Sean
2:43 Start of an incredible guitar solo by Paul. Perfection 🤘
Paul Masvidal seems like such a sweet guy. That lovely smile he gives the crowd around 4:05, and then perching on the edge of the stage while he shreds, aha, just love it! Also love the bit around 3:11, where the whole band turns around to watch Sean do those awesome fills! Such a top band.
Sean Reinert killing it with grace like he did all along his career. RIP
This video never gets old. It’s the best example of Sean in his prime. Look how effortless he makes this seem. I really wish the rest of their set from this was available.
That drummer is out of this world, astonishingly good. Love the band
Bass is at least 10 years ahead of its time. Great rhythm section, great band overall.
That's SEAN REINERT for you! He is a drum GOD.
@@toddwilliams8128 Roger Patterson m8, you forget what his bass lines were like?
@@spacecadet8843 An Atheist diehard I see... Great taste - my fave in this genre by far! They had direct impact on how both Cynic & Death steered towards getting more progressive. Anyone who disagrees - just listen to the song 'Piece of Time' from 1989 & realise those band members hung out with Atheist right from the early days
Now he is out of this world... Literally :(
saw these guys with cannibal corpse in 93-94. blew me away then and still do. But im surprised at how this band is more relevant now then they were then not as a band but style. Paul was 10-15 years ahead of everyone else. still miss the chick growling tho!
that woman was amazing, forgot her name though :(
Dana Cosley
Me too
haha late to the party but that's when I was first introduced as well. All of us in the audience didn't know how to respond. Do we scream do we clap? Blown away. Not what I expected to hear at a Cannibal Corpse show went out and bought Focus the next day!
...gooesbumbs..what a perfomance of outstanding musicians!
No band today can do this!
Thanks... CYNIC forever!
Sean Is so fucking groovy, fuck i miss him😢
Reinert was one of the best drummers I've ever heard. R.I.P.
Awesome video, one of my favorite bands and drummer, RIP Sean Reinert
one of my favorite things about sean is how he doesn't always play his fills the same as the ones in the record to give the song a new feeling. Creativity at its peak.
I feel like I am in heaven listing to this
Rest in power Reinert!!! Thanks for the metal!! :(
I LOVE PAUL SO MUCH and RIP SEAN
thank you Sean.....you will live forever in the hearts and minds of music fans. your sounds will travel the cosmos and blow the minds of any life forms that hear them. RIP legend!!
20 years of listening to metal and just now deep diving into cynic.....how the heck do u have a crowd this large just Fing standing there. I know prog isnt exactly the most moshable stuff. But jesus people...its a live show. Move your ass!
I can't judge them because I appreciate music standing still.
@@lugarespecial yea there is usually 80-90% of fans who do. And I get that. It's just so odd to see no one moving. In the beginning u have one dude trying to start something and then looking around like what? No pit? Well dang :/ I've been to plenty of shows where I too have stayed tf out of the pit.
It's great to see Cynic finally got some recognition after so many years. The metal world back then was blown away by Chuck and this guys' work on "Human", they weren't ready to assimilate what "Focus" brought to the table.
Rip both Seans, you were some of the most talented musicians ever
R.I.P. Sean Reinert. A legend never die.
I just seriously can't stop listening to this song, I love playing it and it taught me so much about self awareness. Thank you Cynic
Tymon absolutely nailed that solo at the end. Shame the camera dude didn't pick up on it.
"Guitar solo, quick, let's make sure to cut to everyone else BUT him"
I'm somewhere in the front rows of that audience, though I didn't manage to spot myself in the video... Good times!
Very rare example of NON-commercial music nowadays. Thanks for the upload and thanks to Cynic
R.I.P. SEAN
04:45 The best outro ever with that smiling guitar player.
Sorry, Paul Masvidal.
Masvidal must be an awesome guy. just love how he seats there and enjoy the vibes with everyone else.
Been meaning to come back here, but haven’t had time. Rest in peace, Sean. Thank you for your impact on heavy and progressive music and your part in several of the most important albums of my formative years.
RIP Sean 🙏
Missed but NEVER forgotten ❤
You give us inspiration every day : Legend / Musical Genius.
Love you always Sean!! thanks for the music

THANK YOU, MASTER SEAN REINERT!🙏❤🔥🙌
THANK YOU, MASTER SEAN MALONE!🙏❤🔥🙌
Ashamed to admit I'm only just getting into this, but damn I can see where a whole bunch of bands stole little guitar licks from.
This basically feels like a precursor to The Faceless. Whole bunch of arpeggios from this are absolute gold you just can't shake from your head.
Animals as leaders' Tosin Abasi nicked some ideas from these guys for sure
RIP IN PEACE SEAN WILL MISS YOUR GLORIOUS DRUMING
RIP Sean! you'll be always with us... 😥
RIP Sean Reinert. ❤️
this that well-adjusted healthy adult metal
I got no problem with Max Phelps, but it has to be said that Tymon (and Robin for that matter) was awesome and did the job super well!
Huge loss for metal. RIP Sean. You will be sorely missed.
Rest in peace Sean.
An awesome lineup for sure. Well done Tymon and Robin for keeping up with the greats.

I know this is late but i see what you did there ;)
RIP SEAN REINERT! :(
An amazing performance. They really were one of a kind.
Great performance! It's so good man, the whole crowd feeling it and jamming out to a song we all know and love. The kind of melodies that'll bring tears to your eyes cause they're that powerful and full of emotion. Cynic is f*cking awesome!
