Nashville wouldn't know Country from a kick in the ass.
Tom Petty famously once said modern country music isn't 'country' at all, its bad rock and roll. Marty is way too country for CMA's.
Country music has gone the way of crappy pop music. The most talented are certainly not the ones getting awards nowadays. Compare any Grammy for recently for Album of the year to Bridge over Trouble Water, Innervisions, Songs in the Key of Life, Joshua Tree or Rumours. Now we have Green Day's Dookie (literally), Taylor Swift. My god.
I stopped watching CMA. Great comment caribman.

I met Marty back around 2005, and have even been to his home in Hendersonville...the home he used to live in beside Johnny Cash. I went there to have him autograph 2 copies of his book of photographs. He was nice, and very accomodating!! He spent time to autograph the books for me, and took time to talk to me, my uncle, and my daughter. He's such genuine, sweet, friendly person. I've seen him around town dozens of times, at gas stations, in Kroger, at the DMV twice, and several other places. I'd see him sitting at red lights, at Wal-Mart, and even saw him a few times at Cracker barrel and other restaurants. he's one of the best in the business, and is in no way cocky or stuck up. I've been a fan for years, but after meeting and talking to him on dozens of occasions, I've grown to respect him as a singer, songwriter, but more importantly, I respect him as a person. All around great guy!!! And just for the record, the 45 people who gave this video a "thumbs-down" are idiots!

Yes! Met and talked with him twice. Once at Gruhn's Guitars in Nashville and another time after one of his shows here in NC.
They just don't come any nicer and genuine than Marty! Just an uber talented musician and all around super nice guy.
More Bluegrass than country IMHO
@@keithrichardscorpse1230 More of the Bluegrass influences were featured here, but if you've ever seen them live, you would know they can do country (REAL country, not that crap on Top 40 Country radio these days) better than anyone. Seen them do a few Surf rock tunes along with some Blues/Rock too. They even can get a little jazzy in some of their instrumentals.
Marty & Kenny are Musicians Musicians & bring Country outta the grave from what it use be
REAL American country music. Young people take note. This is what you should strive to be.

Kenney and Marty are two of the most gifted pickers to ever play a Martin guitar, or Fender Telecaster, IMHO.

Got that right! I've seen this a few times and I'm always amazed at the sound. Saw him in a small theater and complimented his engineer after the show. Always amazing.
My hat is off, but the question on everyone's mind is if Marty has ever shown his throat?

Holy f#$&. Probably the fastest, cleanest mandolin playing I've ever heard (first tune). Got turned on to these guys with their direct plug-in telecaster sound, but Marty is a king Mando picker.

Now this is Country. What your hearing on a lot of the so called country stations is not country. All well Thank God for UA-cam at least it’s here and this was just amazing. Marty Stuart and his band are just one of a kind.
Both great great TELE PICKERS... CANT HARDLY FIND ANY BETTER LEAD GUITAR DUO SOLOS IN COUNTRY & WESTERN..
Marty is unmatched by a one today, he should be played on radio stations world wide.

And his mics appear to be ribbon mics, maybe Rupert Neve versions? Some of the best sequences on the “Marty Stewart show “which is in reruns now are the sequences recorded with an AEA RCA 44 clone. The way they can blend vocals on one mic is so old school but so correct!
How could anybody not love Marty?
I'm a jazz, blues and acid rock fan, but I also love tasty country. This is my fave country band. I love Marty Stuart's music. He is a fantastic musician (so too his sidekicks) and it seems he is just a great human being too.
Unbelievably talented band. I got to say whoever engineered this performance was brilliant. The mic selection was excellent. Those AEA ribbons were smooth along with a 57 on Kenny. And blending all those elements with a condenser on the snare. And then the vocal blend with the bands skill. Beautiful A work of art and science.

I’ve never been a country fan, which I now see was really small minded. I never heard of Marty or his amazing band this is definitely country music and I now listen and have a lot to catch up with. Great songs and lots of soul and talent thanks for opening my mind Marty you rock!
Find and watch the 10 part doc series on country music. Marty’s like the main voice on there. He’s truly a historian. Fantastic guy and wonderful to hear speak on music and musicians.
That's because this is real country music and most of the formulaic schlock that gets played for the past 20 years by corporate radio stations can barely be considered music.
music comes in 2 flavors : good and terrible. Not genres - genres are something greedy record people invented to keep track of their money.

Agree corporate country is in a sad place but it’s been a whooooooooole lot longer than 20 years.
Marty is just one of my favorite artists ! I've been a long haul trucker for over 22yrs . That trucker song hits pretty close to home for me. Still living the life for as long as I'm able.

marty is an american treasure, and the superlatives (even with the addition of chris scruggs) are a great band. they never disappoint in any way.

Chris Scruggs adds so much to this group -- Kenny on Bass and Chris on steel guitar -- just one of the new combinations of the group...

Saw Marty at the no Hats tour, Amphitheater, I think with Travis Tritt. Early 1990's. Damn, he's even better now. What a gift to country music.

Got to see this group of phenominaly talented musicians led by Marty in Glasgow,Scotland 2017 on the tour he spoke of in the intro. They bring joy wherever they play.
I was fortunate enough to see them twice this summer when they passed through North Dakota. Great American music!!!

I've seen them twice in concert. Very entertaining and excellent musicians. I listen to them almost daily while working. I can't get enough of Marty and the guys.
I love this old western style of country music. This is Talent Lady’s and Gentlemen. Dang, Everything is Mixed Perfectly But Dang That Acoustic Guitar Of Kenny’s Sounds Incredible.

If you EVER have the chance.....Go See these guys !!!!! They were at our County fair last year and BLEW THE TENTS DOWN !!!! (not really) ...but they got a standing ovation when they were done !!!! Talented and Class Act !!!!! God bless you, Marty and the gang !!!
Just saw them at the new Mission Ballroom with Steve Miller Band last week and the whole show was outstanding.

Best of the bestest. An original icon. Deep in original music, most say "country", but to me it's rooted from dept of Americana soul.

Feb 19, 2018. Just saw these guys 2 nights ago in Houston. The Heights theater. These guys are a cut above as musicians. They about knocked the walls down with some serious sound. Every member is incredible. Spent an hour w them in a VIP setting just talking music too. They were very open and honest. Class acts all of them!

He’s in now. He’s one of the legends now. Been watching him since I was a kid. He’s a great historian of this music. His collection and knowledge of this music and its history is very deep. We are lucky to have him

Marty Stuart is the Steve Lukather of country music. Their impacts on their respective genre are similar. Both very well regarded in the studio.

Now that's country I was born a country child now that's country and baby... that's my style, I gotta hound dog on the front porch I gotta tractor in the barn and I saw a band aid on Marty's finger and I said well I'll be darned? That's how he does it that's why he's the best now after I put one on? All I gotta do is figure out the rest? 5 time Grammy Award winning Hall of Fame inductee country music legendary hero of mine and so is his wife Connie, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to two wonderful people

Only 4.1 K likes? This is not right. LOL GREAT band !!!! I'm a rock fan, but do love and enjoy certain country artists, I certainly love country music from the 50's and 60's, I love most music from those eras.
These guys have so much soul. And even though they're not duelling telecasters here, they are monsters when they do, fantastic. I'm a gaga fan of surf music too, and these guys mix it up like The Sadies used to do :-(

I loved Marty's TV show with such great guests like Roger McGuinn and Johnny Rivers. A formidable musician with a great band.

From UK new to Marty’s music just wow great musician love him
I saw Marty and The Superlatives backing up Roger McGuinn and Chris Hillman from The Byrds and the result was one of the greatest guitar concerts I've ever seen. The singing and playing was so good, the audience was crying...tears of joy. I'm not kidding.

wow…back in the 60s i was 10 & the byrds ‘turn turn turn’ was the first record i bought. more than 50 years later & i’m just discovering these guys.

I hope you saw they released a live album from that tour for Record Store Day 2024 a few weeks back. A few can still be found on the RSD Market page. On vinyl but I suspect it is possible it will come out on CD at some point. Regardless, Roger McGuinn has uploaded all the tracks from the album to UA-cam.

Ya have to get the album WAY OUT WEST.These are the best fellers of our time,the Superlatives are very nice gentlemen!! Signed my old guitar.
Never knew a thing about them until they ended up headlining one of the nights at the Trans Pecos Festival of Music + Love in Marfa in 2022, (most tickets are sold before you know who is playing). Anyway, I've been going to concerts since the late 60s and still go to lots of shows. Pretty much have seen everyone I've wanted to see including flying to the UK just to see shows. Current faves are Courtney Barnett, Tame Impala, Hatchie and Hazel English, just by way of background. Let me tell you: these guys are the real deal. They blew me away in Marfa and now I try to see them as often as I can. Marty - check into his story - is one amazing guy and seems about as decent as it gets, their catalog is so big the set lists don't have to repeat each night. The band is incredible. Can't recommend seeing them live enough!

I've seen these guys 3 times; with Paul and with Chris ... they're still great. This is the ONLY band I go out of my way to see in concert, EVERY time they're close to Tidewater, VA. Thanks for all the great music, guys!
