I got to see three of Marty’s concerts. After every show they come out and meet and greet the public , shaking hands, signing autographs and selling their books and CDs. I love looking at and taking pics of his original Clarance White Fender guitar with the special guitar strap rigged up to bend the strings like a tremolo bar. Awesome musicians!
A well-chosen gem ("Country Boy Rock & Roll") from the rich repertoire of DON RENO, RED SMILEY & the TENNESSEE CUT-UPS bluegrass band: "Some hillbilly started pickin' / Everybody rocked and rolled!" I've always said Don Reno was a great songwriter (as well as a master on any stringed instrument). Don was known for producing under pressure. When I interviewed him in 1973, he told me he wrote a ton of songs on his way to the King recording studio in Cincinnati!
First saw Kenny Vaughan in concert when he was playing fabulous, superlative lead guitar for Sweethearts of the Rodeo (July 1987). He was rockin' those Buddy Holly glasses back then too.

by the time the drums and bass kick in you know this is a rockin band ! Marty is featured strongly in the new Ken Burns documentary on PBS on Country Music.... WELL worth watching all 7 or so episodes !
Ken collaborated heavily with Marty on putting that together. Marty is not just a musician; but a historian, photographer (took the last photo of Johnny Cash a couple days before he passed), and a curator. I read it took about 8 years to put that series together. (18 of the artists interviewed for the production, passed before it actually aired) Also, Marty finally expects to open his Congress of Country Music museum in his hometown, sometime next year.
Fantastic series. I’ve watched it in Scotland on PBS America, and also in Gaelic on the Gaelic channel, BBC Alba…..tremendous programmes…..Marty is one of the most talented musicians I’ve ever heard and seen….👍🏴🎸🇺🇸

Marty didn't have to give cousin Kenny two breaks in a row, but he did.
I noticed that too. Haha!
It sounded great. Right call!
I have seen Marty many times in concert... he features his band a ton of the time. Feature on the band and their talent they stick with you through the ups and downs!
That’s because Marty had a huge heart!!
The two breaks were different and of course both brilliant!
Probably the best musical moment on Letterman’s show of all time.
Calm TF down.

I am, and it’s still smoking!
Agree!
I watched Letterman my whole life. Saw many greats, but none of them will ever compare with this performance.
So good that even a NYC crowd loved 'em!
Obviously you don't know shit about new york crowds.
Saw these guys at the State Theatre in Easton Pa. UNBELIEVABLE!! They are great! Waiting to see when they come around my area again, definitely going!!
Love the one-mic hat adjustment move
One of the best country combos still going,..great musicians..the guitar was made for these guys.
Marty can definitely help change the world one song at a time.
Marty Stewart and his band are the BEST
There is something so awesome about sharing one microphone. Just the vibe of it - like early Beatles.
Arguably one of the Best bands ever!
First saw Kenny Vaughan in concert when he was playing fabulous, superlative lead guitar for Sweethearts of the Rodeo (July 1987). He was rockin' those Buddy Holly glasses back then too.
I saw him on the Car Wheels Tour with Lucinda Williams. I'd never heard of him before but he made an impression!
Yep, nothin' but the best for Lucinda.@@donyoung7874
andyinoregon They always said they stole him from Denver!
@@billhillify4924 You're so right. When I got their autographs after the show at the Washington County Fair in Hillsboro, Oregon, that's exactly what they said when I asked where they got the great young lead guitarist!
by the time the drums and bass kick in you know this is a rockin band ! Marty is featured strongly in the new Ken Burns documentary on PBS on Country Music.... WELL worth watching all 7 or so episodes !
I found it captivating, and I didn't think I'd like it.
Ken collaborated heavily with Marty on putting that together. Marty is not just a musician; but a historian, photographer (took the last photo of Johnny Cash a couple days before he passed), and a curator. I read it took about 8 years to put that series together. (18 of the artists interviewed for the production, passed before it actually aired)
Also, Marty finally expects to open his Congress of Country Music museum in his hometown, sometime next year.
That solo mandolin piece...
Fantastic series. I’ve watched it in Scotland on PBS America, and also in Gaelic on the Gaelic channel, BBC Alba…..tremendous programmes…..Marty is one of the most talented musicians I’ve ever heard and seen….👍🏴🎸🇺🇸
Now THAT is a real BAND! Oh heavens! What a sound... real musicians playing real music.
What Marty has accomplished over the years at his age is just Stellar ! Playing for Lester Flatt at 12 years old. He is more than a American Legend ! Thank you Marty ! These Fellas in his Band just ain't whistling Dixie either. Truly a great bunch of pickers !
This is SO incredibly good!! I've listened to it dozens of times and it just gets better every time. Great band!
You canNOT get any hotter than this group. Love watching Marty and the gang on the RF tv channel
Just wow. Real musicians. Genuine talent.
These guys blow you away. Unbelievable guitar playing. Outstanding!
Certainly one of the greatest live performances in tv history, Dave's stumble made for extra promo time too.... I guess everything in the universe aligned for this one! Kenny Vaughn=true guitar hero, vastly underappreciated, Marty, too, really./..\.....
I'm on the 2nd listen !! They brought the damn roof down, you could tell it really resonated with the audience. If it sounds this good on my crappy computer speakers, I can only imagine how good they sounded live!
You got to love UA-cam. Your not going to here stuff like this on Commercial Country radio today. When I listen to country on the radio it’s Sirius XM Outlaw Country. The American Country Music awards were on last Week (2019) and I would say there probably nothing like what Marty and Kenny just played. I stopped watching that program years ago. Thanks for posting this great video.
I can't really call myself a fan of country music but outlaw country is my go to channel because I do love good music.
That's a mighty big sound from four pieces. Fabulously superlative stuff.
These guys are great. I love hearing clean guitar as much as through effects.
We don't need no stinkin' pedals!
That is just fantastic! Man, those guys can pick it!
Don’t know how many times I’ve seen this best live performance I’ve seen astounding ❤
I saw them live in Linden Texas playing to about 150 people, they put on a show like there were thousands there and they're the tightest live band I ever seen. Amazing!
I was at the show! They were awesome! I just saw them again in Mt. Pleasant.
Everybody, Now that's Country!!!! Listen and pay close attention. Man this song just rocks.
Marty Stuart and Kenny Vaughan, now that's a pair of aces!
Who is listening to this in 2021? ME!!! This was freaking amazing.
2024!
So unbelievably good! I'm not really a country guy, but I've always loved Marty Stewart. These guys just make it look so easy.
Marty Stuart is incredible ..theres a video on youtube of him at 14 playing mandolin for Lester Flatt. Another great video of him playing in Doc Watsons band.
Never tire of watching this clip. Marty and the Superlatives outdangerized the world's most dangerous band!
I loved every second of this. Great performance!!!
