You are not a UA-camr you are a documentary filmmaker. Great mix of fascinating information, historical perspective, personal experience and scenic drone all nicely edited.
Yan, your skills in video-making progressed rapidly. They're informative and peaceful, so we watch before bed to help relax and escape the stressful aspects of our world. Thank you.
I've been to many places in China and love the land and the people. The ancient less traveled to places are the best. The people still practice simple living for thousands of years. Genuine loving people. I don't understand their language but feel as comfortable with them as I used to in my own grandmother's house 60 years ago. And now I'm a senior citizen. Born and raised in America but have always referred myself as a man without a country. Simply because I don't like the way America does things anymore. Me and many others my age have witnessed America went to Hell in a hand basket. And many places in China still hold the traditional ways of life. Many of the best things in the world are made in China. These people put America to shame. And I'm delighted they still exist!
As a Chinese I thank you sir for your gracious words. May I also say there are many kind and generous Americans too, yourself being one of them. I lived in America for 5 years. There were good and bad but I met many nice people and the time is forever a fond memory for me. Whatever is dividing us will blow past. Best wishes to you. ❤❤
Your videos are different from ordinary UA-cam bloggers. You have a channel with topics and information, which verifies the quality and excellent works of a doctorate graduates not only in your profession.
As a native Chinese speaker living abroad, I am watching your video introducing my hometown province in English. Seriously, this is the most underrated UA-camr on China geography. Fantastic job!
Greetings Yan .I am Alex from Orange County in Southern California. I have just stumbled upon your videos and I am so amazed by your narratives. You definitely are a wonderful and insightful guide with every step you take. I find myself even more engrossed and enriched by China's culture during your walkthru's and interaction with the local people, especially when dialects clash. Here in the U.S., many people can't wrap their heads around the various dialects that differentaite Districts and Provinces ,yet your casual way of acknowledging complete strangers as a family member is such a striking and incredibly friendly way to show that we as a species are more connected to one another rather than separate . Thank you. Really. Thank you.
I want to learn your father's dialect. China is so beautiful. Greetings from Serbia. So much thank you for the help Chinese people send to Serbia, you save so many lives. Хвала, волимо вас
Hi Yan. Thank you for showing us more of Anhui, specifically how calligraphy paper continues to be made today since Cai Lun invented it, and the village of Hong. I am impressed by your knowledge when you were expounding upon Hongcun and then I remember that you are a geographer. The rich man's house is replicated in the nineteenth century but with less grandeur in British Malaya and can be seen in the old settlement towns of Melaka, Penang and even in Kuala Lumpur. It is a privilege and a pleasure to watch your well crafted videography. By the way your father is so supportive of your social media calling. And true to your Chinese culture you refrain from asking your audience to like, subscribe and comment on your videos, so I shall do it for you (although I am Chinese). By doing these three things, will the UA-cam algorithm pick up your videos and post it to a wider audience. So, I shall continue to support your work by forwarding your videos to everyone I know.
As a saying goes, looking through a lens can work in two ways: (i) you are showing us the world around you, and your "Chinaness" brings a deeper and fuller quality to everything you are presenting us, and then (ii) we can peek back a little into your soul, into the way you perceive the world, and we find a gentle, well-balanced, charming person. Your videos work beautifully both ways.
Command of the English language, videography, critique, information, curiosity and such a cute style. Literally perfect, wish you the most success. I love this
Hello again Yan, another master piece once again capturing your unique style. You never disappoint us the viewer on how you view your own Country, expelling our preconceptions of China and showing us the true beauty and a wealth of history. And so wonderful to see a father and Daughter travel together , and spend quality time after being away so long from your family. I cannot speak for anyone else on here, but reading some of the comments you can see how your work is so highly thought of on UA-cam. And to finish with my personal thoughts with you, I can honestly say your style feels like you are talking directly to me. Which is a very unique feeling indeed, so much so that the anticipation of what is yet to come I just cannot wait for you to share with us. Tc Steve,
Calligraphy and painting is one of the Treasure of Chinese culture. And looking at the ink, brush and paper making you get the full sense of the wealth of art within an art. And this richness, beauty and noble refinement lies deep in the heart and consciousness of the Chinese people past and present. So lovely, thank you.
I’m Mongolian. (Not inner Mongolian). You speaking English, it’s very understandable. A lots of different cultures, life experiences you’re sharing with others. Thank you so much.
Very beautiful video. I really had no clue about the paper and how it is made from tree barks. So many people involved just to make one sheet of paper, that's so impressive. When I watch 仙侠(Chinese historical fantasy drama), they often have beautiful calligraphy shootings. I studied Japanese and my Japanese friends told me that they could tell a lot of things about the writer just by observing the calligraphy. It was like modern finger prints😁. Water is life, having clean water going through a village is such a blessing. In Italy, despite being such a small country, there are many dialects too, in fact people cannot understand each other if speaking a different dialect. However, as nowadays Italy is a very multicultural country (many people from Africa and Eastern Europe live there), dialects are only spoken in remote areas. My mother was born on Sardegna Island (famous for its crystal clear sea water) and my father was born in Calabria (South Italy), their dialects are totally different and they only speak Italian. My father was sent to Sardegna for his military service, he fell in love with my mum and they moved to Milano (Roma is the capital and Milano is the business capital of Italy. I cannot imagine how far people in China can travel to meet their family and friends. I also love Traditional Chinese Medicine so please show us some interesting stories about that. My last wish is to learn more about folk tales. For example in 仙侠, they often speak about animal spirits that can shapeshift into humans. Where do such legends come from? In Europe we also have many magical creatures, witches, etc. according to folklore but in real history, since the Christians took over Europe (they had an army), they declared the inquisition where countless women and men were tortured, killed and sometimes burnt at the stake just for living a non Christian lifestyle, knowing herbalism and magic healing. Italy, Spain and France according to history, were the places where most atrocities were committed. Before Christianity, the most spread belief was paganism. Interestingly, nowadays herbalism, traditional medicine and other holistic approaches are back, more popular than ever and backed up by science. Thankfully, religions no longer play the role of authority and most young people cannot accept their Conservative views.
Hi, Lux. I think the idea of animal spirits that can shapeshift into humans is from Taoism. The concept is both ppl and animals improves their mental and physical strength through self-cultivation. Humans can be an immortal and god by self-cultivation and surviving from a dozens of trails from Tian Dao (the rule of nature/universe/heaven), usually Thunder Punishment. Animals can cultivate themselves into spirits as well. The reason why they want to be human is because human is considered to be favourite of Tian Dao.
Thank you! I was really impressed by the Legend of White Snake. Snakes are considered evil by default in the West, in the bible it is a snake who convinces Eve to bite the forbidden fruit but in White Snake, doctors use them to make medicine. Animal spirits are translated as demons in English in most xianxia dramas but in the West, demons are always evil while spirits can be good, evil or neutral. I thought there was a problem in the translation but in The Legend of Chusen, the daughter of the Demon King and one of her followers (Dog) are really kind hearted. Interestingly, celestial beings can get pretty nasty and vengeful. That was an eye opener for me.
Calligraphy can showcase a person's cultivation. China says: characters are like humans, like Chinese characters, and should be square and upright, not skewed. The floating pen is a manifestation of inner restlessness. Japanese calligraphy comes from China, so there is the same reason. Your teacher is very good, and this is everyone's first lesson in calligraphy.
I’m a new fan of your videos having only discovered you last week. I’ve been to China several times but you show me that my travels have only just begun. Such an amazing country and people. I hope to get back there someday and I thank you for your interesting and informative style which brings it all alive for me.
Thank you for showing us all the rural and the town life. I am the 3rd generations Chinese not born in China or overseas Chinese of Hakka dialect, hopefully soon you will show my Ancestors from Guangdong Meixin soon, looking forward to see more of your videos.
Hi Ms Yan, I am a Malaysian and I worked in Xikou(near Xiuning) for almost a year. Yes , it is a very small town but I enjoyed it while I was there in 2014. It is a pity I could not stay there much longer than I wanted to. I visited Hong Cun and another old town nearby but I have forgotten the name. I am looking forward to visit China again.
Ms Yan, even though only recently I followed your youtube but I really enjoyed every contents and it was very informative too. I always love to hear that you always proudly mentioned that you are from Mainland China. Most of the times, people always wondered where are you coming from, Japan, Korea or Thailand?? China is a Great Country and I am waiting eagerly for more stories on China soon. Many thanks and best regards.
Seeing that paper production was the best thing for me. When I was in Japan I learned calligraphy, and I love paper and brushes. Seeing so much amazing paper and beautiful brushes makes me want to get back to it.
i dont know how to explain the way your videos make me feel, you should have the support of the level a national geographic documentary series without all the politics and drama that a studio like that brings, but independents like you just have us and we cherish you.
Do you really think it is possible, US+UK controlled National Geographic will support the real face of China worldwide? This is why this work of Yan is so valuable and thanks to her for this work.💐🙏
Thank you for sharing your experiences in China! I had the opportunity to work in Dingshu town in Yixing in the early 2000s, and it was both a wonderful and challenging experience. Your posts bring back memories of the real China that I missed seeing. It's a pleasure to follow your journey - thank you!
Yup, good video n alot of hard work in editing. One point to point out, excellent drone filming, looking at the buildings structures, plus fengshui adaptation, those builders were classic architects, can beat the present day college trained architects.
Huangshan is simply awesome! We stayed overnite at the hotel. The buffet breakfast was really good. The hike down took us more than 6 hours. I was limping but I made it and it was like winning a race. We also visited Hongcun. It was just so-so for us. We prefer Huangshan and also Jiu Hua Shan.
Wonderful! The paper making was fascinating - the huge sheets need such labour-intensive work that the price is no surprise. Such beautiful products. The village you visited looked very ordered and minimal in design from your drone footage, but such amazing detailed carvings close-up…such a beautiful place. Thanks again for inspiring us with your thoughtful, peaceful travels 💜
paper made of tree barks and rice stalks are highly acidic, it would become brittle and fall apart in less than a decade. Xuan paper goes through different process to make it acid-free so it can last hundred of years. you can find painting or calligraphy dated back to Han Dynasty.
I cannot get enough of all your videos. I love them. And you are such a good presenter. Thanks for your efforts and great work. China is such a fascinating place that bridges antiquity and modernity. I sincerely hope I get to visit China at some point! Is it difficult for a tourist that doesn't speak any of the Chinese languages to navigate the country? .
I fall in love with your channel lately. I love travelling channel but also in the same times able to bring information and also able to captured locals the hidden gems as well, just like one of my fav, Rick Steve. Also, I love your energy ❤ So sweet polite simple but yet bravely adventurous. Peaceful and homey informative documentary travelling channel that's ur channel felt to me 😊 Anyway another great video 🥰
Hi Yan, a very big Thank You, for showing us around Wonderful China, excellent, you explain to us in great detail, about China's heritage, and for me, its like being there with you, very professional.
wow I really enjoyed this episode, the guy in the paper shop was so knowledgeable and friendly. Amazing China - I love your channel your content is so special and really educational. Thanks for your hard effort and keep up the great work.
I'm so glad You Tube brought me here. This is my first time seeing China from the perspective of someone born and raised there. Your videos are very compelling and make me want to come and see it in person. Your talent for this is extraordinary, and you make me feel like I am seeing these places alongside you. I look forward to enjoying more of your productions.
I really appreciate the nuggets of information and the systematic presentation. It's like watching a leisurely documentary presented on a personable level. The facts of the round table being separated until the family is reunited was never known to us. We even have one of those tables that can be separated into two halves. Never knew it carries that meaning.
Hello from Ireland, Yan. Found your channel a couple of days ago and I’ve been binging whenever I have the time. Very authentic and your vibe is awesome. God bless 🙏🏽
In addition to your lovely videos, speaking with subtitles very helpful for those how are learning Mandarin and also distinguishing different dialects. Thanks!
I love the sound of your voice, and the quality of this video is very reminiscent of nostalgic youtube video format - used to be when youtubers are still experimenting with their own format. You captured the rawness of interaction in the most personal level
Im watching your channel for the past 2 months , recent ones. Then , Im now watching your previous videos. Your NOT a typical travel vlogger but super effecient and concise , and lively but not voisterous vlogger. I also appreciates how supportive your Dad is.
There's this beauty about it your contents; not just about scenery, but also thousand year old ingenuity, people, culture , traditional life and architecture. .
Absolutely wonderful to experiencing the visit with you. It gives an added meaning to the viewers out there. The drone shots were clear and detailed. Have subscribed to Yr channel here for more meaningful videos for us overseas Chinese malaysians to see hidden China well off the tourist path. Thank you again.
Another amasing and informative video Yan.❤A new subscriber who wants to thank you very much to share your unique journey. Your dad must be so pround of you.
fascinating thank you so much 🙂 All my life, I have always wanted to visit & tour around in China. The history & culture has so much to offer. I think the time is soon. Sell up & travel...see you there :-)
Yan , you are doing such a great job at showing the fine culture of the many beautiful areas of main land China . Please keep up the great work my friend .
Dear Yan. YT suggested me a video from you today and I instantly fell in love with your content 😊 I love the scenic shots and your calming voice and music. It's great to get to see China from your perspective. Greetings from Switzerland
Really love your videos, so educational, I really hope more people can learn about China, it's beauty and history along with traditions. My wife and I live in Hefei. If you visit, let me know.
Thank you for showing us the scenes and life of the lesser known areas of China! Your content is so interesting that I subscribe to your channel today. Please keep up the good work!
This is the second video that I watched with China’s mainland as the subject. I enjoy it immensely with the information given. It is easy to get totally involved with it. I am impressed with the easiness the subjects being documented. Also have a renewed appreciation of the people of china, which are many and from many diverse backgrounds. I enjoyed and love the easiness, the willingness and the openness of all the persons that appeared in this video. Can not wait to travel to china again. Thx Yan for your documentaries of China and I am looking forward to the next episode.
I enjoy your videos. I like the slow, peaceful pace. I lived in China for three years, in Shanghai and Wenzhou. I used to ride my bike around the old villages around Wenzhou. Your videos remind me of much that I saw.
Thank you, Yan, for bringing up remebrances to my own visit to Hong-Cun in 2016 with my chinese wife (from QingYang, Anhui). I was there in summer and it was full of tourists, but interesting anyway. Your videos are awesome👍👍; I found them by coincidence and now I started follow you on UA-cam. 😀 BTW: How do you upload videos from China? When I was there, I had no access to UA-cam ...
For foreigners, when applying for a phone card in China, they can directly inform the salesperson without any restrictions. You can try it out next time.
Love this video....very informative and educational. These are the parts of China we seldom read or see (cultures, lifestyles, history etc).. thanks for taking us into these richness of China. Looking forward to your next video.
I am so happy that I stumbled upon your videos!! They are so nicely made and it is so hard to say what I like best. I am so happy that you add a little of everything in your videos. I was in China in the fall of 2013. We visited Beijing, Xian, Chongqing, Shanghai and Guangzhou for two and a half weeks. I loved it and really want to go back. Keep up the excellent work!
Hi Yan,....I watched some of your videos randomly but now I am going through every one from the time you went to the organic farm in Switzerland. I follow almost all the Vloggers in China and all of them are very good but your videos are unique. Maybe because you are from China and speaks English and Mandarin, you have an advantage but besides that I can see that you also do a lot of research and you add them to your videos. I really enjoy them and I also like your easy relaxed and natural style and your ability to connect with the people. You come across like a professional by just being yourself . Your background music is also specially selected. My belief is that you will grow and grow . I hope one day you will do a trip along the ancient silk road as I think there must be some great treasures along that route. Keep it up and thanks for the in depth coverage. Keep giving us the nice friendly smile.
Not only we are able to see the places and things you visit🤩, we even learn alot too about the history of everything you show that is special😍🤩..Thank you Yan❤❤❤..
I love the way you present your videos, so informative and non rushed. You make it seem as though you are our private tour guide!
yes so well spoken and presented my god not many can do wht yan can do .so well done my god .
You are not a UA-camr you are a documentary filmmaker. Great mix of fascinating information, historical perspective, personal experience and scenic drone all nicely edited.

Modern Chinese calligraphy is the pinnacle of civilization. It's the most beautiful of all the written languages.

I am so glad you didn't get lost in the jungle---I wouldn't be able to see your beautiful work!! ❤
I love the sound of your voice, and the quality of this video is very reminiscent of nostalgic youtube video format - used to be when youtubers are still experimenting with their own format.
You captured the rawness of interaction in the most personal level
Hi Yan, thank you for the videos. I just love the way you presented them. I love your drone videos of the beautiful scenery. Keep it up.
Im watching your channel for the past 2 months , recent ones. Then , Im now watching your previous videos. Your NOT a typical travel vlogger but super effecient and concise , and lively but not voisterous vlogger.

There's this beauty about it your contents; not just about scenery, but also thousand year old ingenuity, people, culture , traditional life and architecture. .

Anhui is beautiful
Your presentation is very poetic
This is the second video that I watched with China’s mainland as the subject. I enjoy it immensely with the information given. It is easy to get totally involved with it. I am impressed with the easiness the subjects being documented. Also have a renewed appreciation of the people of china, which are many and from many diverse backgrounds. I enjoyed and love the easiness, the willingness and the openness of all the persons that appeared in this video. Can not wait to travel to china again. Thx Yan for your documentaries of China and I am looking forward to the next episode.
thanks!
keep up the good work of introducing CHINA to the world
Watching from Wales UK..I recently came across your vlogs and love learning about China..
WHAT a magnificent city you have
I enjoy your videos. I like the slow, peaceful pace. I lived in China for three years, in Shanghai and Wenzhou. I used to ride my bike around the old villages around Wenzhou. Your videos remind me of much that I saw.
South anhui is almost the same as Zhenjiang cultural.
BTW: How do you upload videos from China? When I was there, I had no access to UA-cam ...
i am using vpn Service! 😉
@@littlechineseeverywhere Thank you, I'll remember that for the next time
For foreigners, when applying for a phone card in China, they can directly inform the salesperson without any restrictions. You can try it out next time.
Wow...my home province. Anhui is over underrated province in China. It is the best with full Chinese cultural and memory place.
yeah, many provinces are beautiful, and they are just less known!
quality VDO ,informative , and not too formal , feel relaxed to watch your channel.
I love to go to China I love to meet you in the future in one day I never know when with that please doing continues and I love to watch a program❤
Love this video....very informative and educational. These are the parts of China we seldom read or see (cultures, lifestyles, history etc).. thanks for taking us into these richness of China. Looking forward to your next video.
Many thanks to your Dad. All good girl.
Thank you for the story about the Xuan paper.
Being enlightened by such a beautiful young lady!
Thank you :)
I hope one day you will do a trip along the ancient silk road as I think there must
be some great treasures along that route. Keep it up and thanks for the in depth coverage. Keep giving us the nice friendly smile.
Deceplain, decorum’s is beautiful in China, like you all. Thanks.
Your Vlogs are as beautiful as you are. You are showing real China to the World. Big Respect from Pakistan
