I want to check out another video for Danny Carey! Do you guys have any suggestions?? Comment below!

Ticks & leeches
Yea all danny cam uploads type in tool danny cams
Sober live
You should check out the live drum cam video of Tool's song Triad. Not as good a video quality as this one but there's an enhanced version that's better quality and so fun to watch Danny. He's amazing.
Ah. Danny Carey...the 3 best drummers in the world...
Joey from Slipknot is up there as well.
@@nicholasgilvin6396 not anymore
@@jaylewis6565 ☹
Danny is all three
@@nicholasgilvin6396 r/wooosh
The most impressive thing about Danny Carey is how he manages to hide his two extra arms at all times
i think he is an octopus
It's part of his skill
Four extra arms actually.
arms? you mean completely independent brains.
When this album first got announced I thought "About time, what the hell have they been doing for 13 years?" and apparently it was making Pneuma and it was worth it.
😂😂😂 I didn’t know this song was a new one until AFTER I made this reaction. I was thinking it was an old song I just missed or never heard before
Sounds a bit like schism for 30 seconds. You've definitely heard that one before
You don’t have to be a drummer to be hugely inspired by Danny’s playing. Everyone gets the out of this world musicianship from Tool
Growing up in the 80’s and 90’s, I’ve always said Tool is the Pink Floyd of our generation.
Bro I've said this for years 👊💯🔥
They use textures and long-form songwriting oretty similarly! I wish tool would experiment more. The drop d guitar led experience feels a little overdone by now, they could explore other things sonically amd it would benefit them.
TOOL is Pink Floyd for the new millennium.
🤘🧙♂️🤘
Rich the Ancient Metal Beast
I always described Tool as a heavier Pink Floyd
Absolutely
Probably watched this performance a thousand times and will probably watch it a thousand more. UNBELIEVABLE!!!
Same!!
Word
He’s playing 3 different time signatures at the same time! Such a genius
I'm pretty sure he's actually playing 3 drums at the same time.
He can play 5 but he would have to take his pants off.
🤔🤔🤔…….😱😱😂😂🤣🤣
Indeed his left and right arm, plus his legs are doing three different signatures. My mind is blown watching this every time.
Danny Carey could play a 5th time signature with a different body part
I just think it’s cool after his amazing career in the NBA, Larry transitioned over to amazing drummer…just like that!
What a talent!
😂😂😂
Danny did play ball but didnt make it to the pros 😂
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I thought that was bird. Friends didn’t believe me that he retired to become a drummer. The proof is out there now. 😂
I've never touched a drumset in my life, but I never get tired of watching drummers react to Carey playing this song. The insight and admiration pours out of folks, and it's truly inspiring to me. Seeing him play is hypnotic. Even without understanding what he's doing or how he's doing it, you innately sense that you're seeing something profound, transcending human endeavor to commune with the divine. No form of expression better evokes that feeling than music, and Danny Carey demonstrates that beautifully imo. The man is a shaman. Loved your reaction.
Same here lol, never played an instrument in my life but can’t get over this
Same here lol. Something about seeing someone who knows what they’re talking about watching someone top 5 in the world.
Right there with ya bud I can’t tell you how many times I’ve watched this video and I still find myself in awe as if I’m watching it for the first time.
"Like one of those giants from Skyrim playing drums"
Is the best sentence I've ever heard
Master of insane polyrhythms.
When you compare Danny Carey to a giant in Skyrim, it was an instant subscribe. 😂😊
Duuuude it’s a great comparison right? He absolutely looks like one of them giants
I’ve watched Pnuema dozens of times and each is like the first. Amazing! Tool’s genius is making odd time signatures sound great. Nobody does that like they do.
My favorite reactions to this drum cam video, are by actual drummers. The normal average person can understand that his solo is really impressive. But someone who knows how to play the drums can understand that Danny must have sold his soul to the devil at some point, because the amount of coordination it takes to play that solo is GODLIKE.
And it was all done in 1 take right?
You don’t sell your soul to the devil and it’s bullshit even saying that
Your understanding of what he has become is idiotic for you to say he sold his soul is ignorant of knowing what MAGIC IS HAPPENING WITH DANNY Carrey and Neil PEART they’re in the religious Wiccan /Enochian Magic neither one of them sold his soul to be what they are
I am an average person, and there is definitely some wizardry going on, at minimum.
You got that backwards. The devil sold his soul to Danny for drum lessons.
Tool is the best band of all time! In my humble opinion.
one more album and they will be the goat, one more.
1 of the best
@@pablerry 2045 Is when it will be released!
I like to think they're my generations Pink Floyd 💯🔥👊
@@pablerry imagine what that album is going to sound like 🤯🤯🤯 #goats
Ive always found it to be comical when, Danny " The Octopus " Carey, either inspires drummers, or makes them want to quit drumming 😂.....thanks for your reaction, never quit.... SPIRAL OUT, KEEP GOING 🤘
I think people who don’t like them, don’t have the witts to comprehend them. It’s not music to play if you wanna get a party started. It’s music for people who want a thought provoking experience.
Danny is absolutely on the Mt. Rushmore of drummers. All time beast.
He makes it look easy, his playing is so fluid.
Never heard people hating on Tool but if they do they certainly don't know them. They are incredible.
When he said that, I was like, “Who, on earth, hates Tool?” I’ve never heard someone speak ill of them. Maybe I just keep good company.
Nobody ever hated on TOOL.
I never heard anything but hate for Tool when I was a kid in the country, it was def labeled “stoner rock” and conservative towns didn’t like that shit. I’m lucky I was raised by a parent who adored classic rock so I discovered Tool on my own when they were still refusing to post their music online (CD purchases only).
@@bhelliom3 I call BS! I lived in the country and there was zero hate for the band. You've been watching too much "Footloose"
@@patrickbateman7369 Ahh yes, because living in two completely areas means we had the exact same experience and I *totally* made up everything I just said 🙄
1) I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve watched the original drum cam video, and lost count of how many reaction videos to this video I’ve watched. 2) Love that Alex Grey print on the wall behind you of the couple
The Alex grey print is the only thing picture I have on the walls in my entire house 😂 my brother who’s a huge tool fan gave it to me.
Best rock drummer on the planet right now.
intimidating! ruthless. beyond human. He has got to be the best drummer alive!
Sorry but MR. Carl Palmer is still alive. so, this guy definitely isn't the best alive
He is the best drummer alive
@@johnduval6377 back then yes.. but lets not forget the great Ian Paice of Deep Purple too. But, From my professional opinion, I would put Dannny Carrie at the top.. amazing drummer!
..there's always that asian kid
Is now
This album was literally Danny Carey coming out and making us remember; that he is undeniably the greatest drummer alive
Since Peart is dead he's in that conversation with Portnoy
One of the greatest to ever pick up sticks. Spiral Out...
He didnt get "The Octopus" nickname for nothing. Guy's a legend
Nope, NEVER heard of anyone hating on TOOL. Here in the midwest we couldn't get enough TOOL when they came out
Tool is next level. Geddy Lee said it best, there’s the mainstream and then there’s our stream and that best describes Tool. The musicianship and musicality of the band is OFF THE CHARTS! It’s not just Danny, it’s Adam and Justin as well. Their music takes me on a journey and I’m happy to go along for the ride. They’re even better live and I’ll see them at Sonic Temple and Louder than Life this year. Fear Inoculum is a Master Piece. Danny Carey has taken the throne of Best Drummer in all Music since the retirement and passing of Neil Peart.
Agreed.
People hate Tool because they don’t understand it. Same with early Rush and other very very technical bands. People that hate on tool are old fans that can’t deal with change. This band is simply one of the best the world has ever seen.
Danny has basically defied the law of conservation of mass/energy, created buckets of new energy, and said to all of us: "I Maketh so I can Giveth. Come forth and Taketh. Shareth, Learneth, Loveth thy self and thy Neighbor"...
Straight up created an economy for all of us to benefit from. There is no one quite liketh Danny Carey!
The thing about Danny is that he plays in a 4/4 timing quite often, but he cuts it in half, triples it, doubles it, adds polyrythms and a fibonacci sequence (during his "solo" 1,3,5,3,1) overlay so the timing sounds foreign.
Now go back and listen to all their albums again. You'll start to understand that danny carey is the G.O.A.T
I really need to. I have not jammed tool in well over 10 years.
A masterclass in difficult time signatures.
He looks like a human octopus. My brain can't comprehend how he hits everything so precisely and powerfully.
TOOL and Pantera are my two favorite bands of the 90’s. They changed music forever
Danny Carey. Absolutely genius
if you want to hear a beginner drummer who doesnt know anything, listen to this guy
Danny Carey is not human! Dude is an octopus
I think what separates Danny from most other drummers is that most other drumming is keeping a beat while Danny's drumming is an equal instrument to the guitar bass and voice.
They build the songs before Maynard ever puts lyrics to it. I think that adds to their unique style.
@@darkstar2480 When I heard how they record, it really is awesome that each writes his part to what has been recorded. Truly unique.
@@struedel25 I feel that is what gives the song life. One of the few bands that no matter how often I listen to them. I always hear something new.
Playing the Drums Versus Writing drum Parts
He turns the drums from a rhythm keeping tool into a legit musical instrument. He's next level brilliant.
I found bobbing my head or tapping my foot to Tool isn’t usually every fourth note or whatever. It’s the overall rhythm that all the instruments put together.
Yep! And also often Justin Chancellor is the solid time keeper allowing Danny to riff some
Yeah, typically for music like this with complex time signatures, I find myself following a lop-sided rhythm, wherever the strongest beats tend to land.
Polyrhythms.
Danny's almost 60 here, you've got time, son
Thanks dad 😂 I’m 31 so yeah I got some time… as long as my knees hold up
61 years old, yo. Built like a tank.
Syncopation, at its finest!
Don't forget you young bucks, Danny is almost a senior citizen now, that's why he is moving so slow.
What amazes me so much about this song is that when you first hear it, you feel like your tripping over something every few bars, but after a while those stumbles start to feel like normal parts of the beat. Now after who knows how many times listening to it, if it were played in a straight, even time signature it would totally screw with my brain. Taking the time to figure out how it's broken down, and how to count it was very enjoyable, but it's even more enjoyable just listening to the song and feeling the groove.
You said it perfectly, musicianship! Never heard drums played with such dynamics, controlled chaos, just beautiful!
Carey is one of the greatest drummers I’ve ever listened to. Will say in my opinion, dude is the greatest of our living generation. 👊🇺🇸🧂
The hate comes from fools, the band is way ahead of the pack musically. So tight together and intelligent in arranging their music. It’s a true band ‘ it consists of 4 instruments. Guitar gives way to bass’ vocals inhanced guitar’ drums fill and lead’ whatever instrument , it plays a prominent role in every song they write, and that’s awesome. And interesting. God bless ! Thanks for the vid.
Just sucks they decide to do an album once every 11 years
Never quit! People like this and SRV, Harry Mack, Michael Jordan/Kobe, etc... show us what it is like to master something. If we leave the path, we never reach our own personal potential.
Danny Carey is a beast!! Tool is such an intricate machine..they defy...well..everything!!!
Thats the true example of a master.
Everyone should see Tool live at least once, please heed my word....you must.
My second concert ever was tool. It was at an arena in Dallas tx and we had nose bleed seats. It was fucking amazing.
I miss them playing slightly smaller venues. The TD Garden in Boston is the worst venue around and that’s where they’ve played the last 3 times I’ve seen them.
I saw them at the Civic Arena in Pittsburgh a couple weeks after 9-11.
At the end of the show Maynard said "I hope this helped you heal" then the band did a group hug front and center.
@@ArturoReacts never noticed the hitting of the snare with the cymbals at the end. Shit is fkn 🔥
I can and have watched Danny play drums for hours. Live and online
danny is the goat man. Polyrhythms for days. they dont call him the octopus for nothin
Danny Carey is the only drummer that makes you want to play drums, but whenever you see him play drums it makes you want to quit.
Tool Army member here. I’m in my mid forties. I game. I know of Skyrim. Never played it. I accept your assessment that Danny is like a giant from Skyrim playing the drums as the most logical explanation for his mind boggling excellence over the last thirty years. And don’t give up. Get inspired.
I think he keeps his high hat in the center because he uses it as almost the metronome. It is going at 44 through almost the whole song. It allows him to do all of his crazy things with all of his other limbs and always know where center is always know where one is.....
'Kin A cousin!!
"That's some nasty fill"😂. Best quote
At the last chorus he looks like a wizard just casting magic.
Insanity is the perfect word! He is a monster drummer! The time signatures are just mind-blowing! Thanks Danny!
I still have a tough time with Lateralus and it’s time signature relates to the Fibonacci sequence. Insane!
Let's not forget that Maynard and Carey met when they were in Green Jelly, before forming Tool. So they have had a long relationship together with creating music.
It brings tears to my eyes seeing people get so skilled at their craft that they spend time with perfection.
"A battle station for a drum kit". That is the perfect way to explain Danny's set up !!!!!
Tool's one of the GOATs. Danny's one of the GOATS 🤘🏼👁🌀🌀🌀
I’m reminded of it everyday because my brother gave me a Alex Grey framed picture that hangs on my wall everyday. It’s the only actual normal thing on my wall besides cymbals and led lights 😂
@@ArturoReacts 😂 Awesome bud! Glad to hear lol.. Alex Grey's art is incredible. Such a good fit with the band and music. Human creativity and collaboration at it's best.
Yeah his art is so unique. Tools music is a perfect fit for it
My favorite part of this is the muted double tap at 12:47 to bring the whole band back on time.
He's the GOAT , my friend... 😉👌👌
The swiss triples will test your endurance every time. Damn its tough.
Very cool.
I've seen this drum shot reacted to quite a few times yet this one was my favorite.
1.Humble
2.Right to the point.
3.When you wanted to point out a cool roll or part you went right to it.
4.You speak as if you're learning as you go.
Well done.
Any group that can make an odd time song especially in 33/8 time signature is especially good! Out of this world kind of good! Most musicians can barely do odd time songs. The fact that Danny Carey is doing odd time polyrhythms in that time signature is absolutely mind warping! Little Johny gave the devil some fiddle lessons, and Danny gave the devil drum lessons! 😅😅
We are spoiled right now with how many incredible drummers there are currently out there.
“this man must be stopped” lol
Danny Carey is a GOD
Was at that Tool concert and then again last year, truly the best band ever even way up in the “nose bleed section” the sound was incredible and a amazing experiences 😊
I remember 80's - 90's drummers had these gigantic kits and it seemed like they hit about 3 of them Danny has one of those huge kits, but his drum sticks hit every single one of of those drums multiple times, a minute.
Danny the octopus 🐙
tool might not be for everybody but the are are all i need. i love them
may the sun glisten and shine, like gold, growing in fields of grass, with your children showing love and thanks
I love how the percussion is every bit as much if the song as the vocals. They aren't just the foundation of the song, they contribute an almost vocal element to it. It's hard to explain what I mean but it blows my mind.
When asked by interviewers why Maynard often stands much further back on the stage than most vocalists, Maynard has responded saying that he is only 1 part of the band. No musician puts more into the band than the others, he doesn't "stand back" he stands with the rest of the band as they are all contributing equally to the music.
Exactly. I think there is only one tool song that sounds like the drums are playing a rhythm. The rest, the drums are an instrument that is not in the background.
“You’re gonna need to stop that.” 😂 Btw, the new album, which was a 13 yr wait from the prior album, has drums this awesome on each of the 5 long songs on there. He really reached a new level (obviously lol) but they all did as a band. I mean, the album is a masterpiece IMO.
Danny is the octopus for a reason…and then MJK, Adam & Justin
such a snappy snare considering there's no snare wires on! I love that tone so refreshing in rock.
I've got a band for you to check out. Jinjer is a progressive metal band from Ukrainian. The drummer is a classically trained pianist who picked up the sticks when his old band named a drummer. He plays on a very low set jazz style kit. The general introduction is their song Pisces the live session.
Hey thanks for the comment! I actually did exactly that and reacted to the pisces video and it’s up on the channel ua-cam.com/video/tRzr5ITGtOk/v-deo.html&feature=shares
Great band
Watching and hearing him play Pneuma is to be escorted to another realm of consciousness. Not just another level.
Great commentary too!
Danny Carey, Tier 1 drummer
His left foot is playing the Hi- hat. Years of practice and not giving up is how you get that good.
"It's hard to bob your head to this" Been a Tool fan since the 90's, I gave up on trying to move my head in time. Instead, I sway through the rhythms I'm brought through, by the music. I love how all 4 parts of the band are so in touch that each piece feels like it's meant to be there, in it's final form, and not forced or manufactured, but au natural
Great reaction brother!!

Buddy, I can’t tell you how enjoyable it is to watch you honestly being astounded at a 6ft 5 or something man who is at the top of his game. “I give up” was an apt comment bc he’s so inspiring, and yet we feel like crap bc deep down, we all know that we’ll never be as good as him. With 1 arm and 1 leg, he’d sound better than us. Lol. Anyway we can tell you love your music, so keep on keeping on. Breakthrough…plateau…plateau……..small improvement…..plateau. Go Well.
Thank you for being honest in your reaction. I have watched several of the reactions to this particular video where you can see how lost the commentator is and only picks out the simplest parts of what Carey does. To admit that something confuses your mind, that you aren't sure exactly something going on in a particular moment is a true reaction and makes it enjoyable to watch.
Thank you! I have not even bothered to watch other reactions to this video. I just like to check out drum videos and thought it would be fun to share with you guys and it turned out to be great as a channel 😁 thanks for the watch and comment!
Left heal is the high hat.
Bonzo, Professor & Danny Carey. YES!
Been slowly getting into playing drums, and seeing stuff like this there's so much that drummers do that I know now the average person can't appreciate 😂 how's this guy so calm but hitting like 100 hits per second and it all just sounds so smooth and together. I don't get it either bro lol
"I'm just gonna sell my drum set."
I can't tell you how many times I've said the same thing after hearing someone like Danny play a ridiculous song. Hell, he's so good that it almost makes me want to sell off my guitars and bass too 😆
Yeah I joked about it and to some extent it’s true 😅 but really this stuff inspires the hell out of me to get better at my instruments. I’m only 31 so there’s a whole other half of a lifetime I got to get better 😁😁
@@ArturoReacts I've only got a couple years on ya, but I'm pretty sure I was "middle aged" in high school, so I already count each day as a blessing 😂
I have never seen a drummer this big of a person. He is huge!
This is something superhuman
As a mega Tool fan, I can tell you most of the hate Tool gets is because of the fans, not the band. We can be a bit...overzealous in our love for the band. For people who aren't as in to them it's on the same level as someone who's always talking about the Dead or Phish or Zepplin, or any of those bands that people really, really love, but aren't for everyone. It's why I don't tend to talk about Tool much outside my circle of Tool fan friends. There are definitely some Tool fans who have proven to be real assholes about their fandom and that, rightly or wrongly, projects back on the band for some people.
100% truth. There's a lot of cringy/toxic fans that put me (and many others) off ever even wanting to listen to Tool. Thankfully I checked them out anyway. Blows my mind that such a psychedelic band attracts those kinds of fans, they clearly don't even understand what they're all about.
You have to grow into Tool and their journey. Once you do there's no way back ever again. These guys are legends.
They have so many great songs but you should give Invincible a listen or Right in two or stinkfist or Sober or The pot or....or...or...or well, just listen to all their stuff
Agree. Listening to their music properly is like a worm hole. They are the only band I honestly can listen to non stop. In the last 3 years I e listened to them almost daily and I get more out of their songs over time. You cannot listen to fear inoculum a few times and get it. A hundred times and it sings to you
Danny Carey is THE DEFINITION of “in the pocket”.
He has a 3rd leg and a few more arms than most humans. I didn’t appreciate this song as much the first time until I focused on his drumming when listening again. They all sound amazing as always, but this is the Danny show right here. Best drummer in the world.
I’m not a drummer first of all, but I personally think the odd beats that don’t make rhythm sense and the part where both hands are playing different rhythms is so unbelievable to me. He has to be one of the best drummers ever. Wow
Don't forget about each foot playing a different time
Idk why everyone finds it hard to “bob their head” to tool. Maybe its because i literally grew up on them but for me the band has SO MUCH groove even in crazy time changes especially if you listen to Adam playing over DC. Its so powerful you cant loose the rhythm. EXCEPT the Rosetta Stoned breakdown. That is the only one that still throws me when i try to tap along
Try to avoid overuse of the word literally, the most overused word in the english language these days...literally
Greatest song played in my opinion. Immortal
