Traded it in on Lease Return , a 2020 Bighorn Night edition, during the so called " Pandemic " in 2021. Got a Great Trade in price ( $22,500 ) for my 2014, and on the Bighorn - $ 39,500.00 - 27,559 miles. Glad I made the deal back then, because the used trade values have dropped like a Rock & the Automotive World is just crazy these days !

I had the same issue with my 2020 Limited the day after Christmas. I was able to jump my truck, but only after letting it sit on charger with my battery charger for about 15 minutes. I took it straight to get a new battery. When they replaced the battery, I lost all kinds of functions of the truck. My local dealership was a block from the place I got the battery. They had to clear out 34 DTCs for insufficient voltage to operate features of the truck. And then, everything came back to working. I was told its the trucks way of protecting itself when there isn't enough voltage to protect things like the PCM and ECU. I can't confirm that is true, but that's what it did.

Heck we used to rave about an old beat up trash bucket with dry rotted wheels. 'Put some gas in the carburetor!' We used to work on cars that ran half the miles. Great perspective. Great videos. 2020 Ram Limited Ecodiesel here. I’ve had similar issues. In my case, it was all battery related. Had same deal with crazy lights etc. I turned it off and had other stuff to do. Came back a few hours later and all was well. This was second time it happened. First time it was the second battery under the seat (used for remote start). Same deal with Xmas tree lights but it all went away after a bit of time.
It's the battery. Had the same problem a month ago. You may have a dead cell in your battery. "Tip" To start a vehicle with jumper cables, Don't use cheap jumper cables like the ones you purchase at Walmart, Target or a gas station (Sorry Walmart shoppers). The amperage draw will be to high on cheap cables and cause them to get hot and be less effective in providing the required amperage needed for the starter and electrical systems. You need higher rated cables for jump starting. Lastly, never connect to a dead batteries negative pole, as a rule the vehicle with the dead battery, use the vehicle ground to prevent an explosion from the dead battery. To much of a risk when connecting to battery older than 6 months or more. The vehicle that is providing the jump should be running at least at 1,200 rpms for a minute or more prior to attempting to jump starting a dead vehicle. Just say'n!!
I have a 2023 1500 I bought in June of last year. Its got 4500 miles on it. Yesterday it was shifting really bad and when I got home I found it was dumping tranny fluid all over the drive way. The only thing I can think happened is that a line to the intercooler froze and cracked. Wind chills have been -11 where I live. The dealership has it now and I hope the warranty covers it. These trucks are getting harder to make excuses for man. Especially with how much they cost these days.
The struggle is real🤣 I am on my 3rd battery. P1DF3-00-ECU not initialized, could be due to the failing battery. If not, then possible causes are ESM or TCM.
There’s a big plug of wires under the truck on the drivers side. About under the drivers seat on the frame. Unplug it, clean it, dielectric grease it. A lot of times when the dash lights up like a Christmas tree. It’s that plug. Gets moisture and gets dirty. Give it a try. You’ll find it on forums. It’s part of the wiring harness.
Those regular style worm gear hose clamps aren’t used on cooling systems because they don’t expand and contract so they come off. That’s why the type that are like a spring are used
WATCH THE REAR BRAKES. I was at 115 K miles, mostly highway, and found my rear pads were about 95% gone while I was doing a routine tire rotation. I was as surprised as you to find my front brakes looked like I installed them yesterday. For the first time ever, I actually kept the old pads because they are that good. I did end up replacing brakes all the way around and was equally surprised to learn that how pleased I am with the advance auto parts store brand. The brakes definitely stop the truck better, longevity will now be the question. And FWIW I’m still on my original battery in my 2019, knocking on wood on that one.
My truck had a bunch of codes too after I had to jump start it and then I had to put a new battery in it everything has been fine since new battery and codes cleared. These trucks are super finicky if they have a bad battery
Hey buddy. Sorry to hear about your issues. I just found a 2020 Ram Laramie with the Ramboxes AND split tailgate for sale an hour from my house. It has 99k miles and is listed for $36k. I think this is overpriced given the mileage, but the Ramboxes + split tailgate makes it rarer than hen's teeth. What do you think? I don't need a new truck, but darn do I really want a Ram...
Man I've never heard of brake pads going passed 100,000 miles really more like 60 to round 90 thousand miles at the most. Then they need replacement. You must not be braking much at all.well anyway that's awsome. Love the channel and the high mileage ram videos .it really helps us ram guy's out there. Thanks again
I had a similar problem this morning. I have a z automotive Tazer DR installed and it fried my truck in -15 degree weather. I removed the tazer dt and everything went back to normal. I had it on my truck for over a year and it started acting up now.
Has same starting issue. Starter would randomly draw more than 13 volts and would just click. New starter was installed and haven't run into that issue.
BR549? The Rockabilly Band? I've got their CD somewhere.... I was wondering if you have stop/start system(not e-drive) cuz they have a secondary battery on the Jeeps. Sometimes they'll not start and I always disconnect both to check separately. On real cold days any electrical system on a vehicle can fail. Now I gotta see a e-drive Ram in the cold. Doing some research on a 2019 Long Horn.
I believe im having the same issue with my battery on my 2019 Laramie! It is just cycling threw the ignition cycle and if I have my foot on the brake pedal the truck will actually start without me pushing the button. However it does shut off about 10 seconds after it runs
I had the same issue/CEL when the OEM battery died in my 2019. None of the lights when away after replacing the battery though. Ended up having to take it to the dealer and they reinitaized the ABS module. Been good since.
@@MrJustinWheeler Have your received the email for your cybertruck? TFL said they think they were 30-50k in line and they got their email to order their cybertruck. A few have even received their actual truck.
That CEL code seems to be a ECU failed to start/communicate code. Probably set when the engine died and the start button wouldn’t do anything. I’m a ford guy but we see the same types of codes from super dead batteries - whole bunch of modules failing to start/communicate. If it doesn’t come back soon I’d be pretty confident it’s not transmission related
I have a quick question if maybe you can do a short about this “problem” 5th gen rams are having but don’t really hear much about its the steering knuckle rubbing on the control arm on full lock if you could just check your truck is also having it it’s just very weird I herd it might be by design?
If you look at the manufacturer of all these batteries you would see that Interstate makes the majority of them. So why spend $300 on a battery when the one from Walmart is made by the same manufacturer for $170. Plus better warranties. Also, these trucks can fit a bigger battery which i do recommend.
PREACH!!! I only use Walmart batteries in all my vehicles! Project Farm I'd a fantastic UA-cam channel and tested all the major batteries through a barrage of tests and the Walmart EVERSTARTVCAME OUT ON TOP! They have never let me down!
I'm sharing my own issue on my 2017, just in case it could help you or someone else with the electrical situation : I'm still investigating on it, but I have similar troubles to yours (no remote start, barely cranks, or not at all). I used AlphaOBD to monitor the codes and P1DF3 showed up, as well as some other codes related to low voltage. Eventhough the battery voltage sensor and voltage sensor are respectively showing 14,56 V and 14,73 V (which should be good), I plugged a multimeter and found out it's overcharging (at almost 18 Volts, to begin with). Cleaned a few grounds in the engine bay and the overcharging dropped to around 16 volts. Sensors are still showing good voltage though. Yet, it seems like my battery (purchased 5 months ago) took a hit and it doesn't provide enough amperage (even after recharging it). Still trying to find the reason why it's overcharging while the sensors are showing normal voltages though (might be another bad ground, who knows).
I have a 2019 limited. Recently changed the battery after almost 75k miles and almost 4 years of owning it bought it used with 25k miles with the original battery. It turned the check engine light as well but once I replaced the battery it all went back to normal. Break pads are still really great. Had new tires put on and I took a peep at the break pads when they took the wheels off and they all look still good! My only current problem is the gas pump shutting off every 30seconds in the winter. It goes away during the summer for some reason lol
The dust shield on my mustang is literally broken off just hanging on there. The passenger side sheild broke off and is uhhh.... Somewhere... I'm getting new ones.
Go with a AGM battery it will last longer over time and it will supply a strong consistent supply when needed! Cost is about the same long term as dealing with leaded acid batteries
No it won't u better off getting a cheap battery cuz no matter what 2 years is all u go get out a battery in these trucks.. they should have came with 2..
Those wirm clamps are not the ideal clamp for that application. Heat in the engine bay will make it expand and pressure within the cooling system will push the hose off the tube. Get tension clamps the size of those hoses and throw the worm clamps far, far away.
Well luckily all of that was just wear and tear or user error. I’d say bite the bullet. Get the 4in bds lift and it will come with a lot of the front end stuff you need to replace anyway. Get that and some new cv’s and you’re golden
That’s a good question, and one I think about often. TBH I can’t make up my mind. I’m absolutely hooked on the RamBoxes, so I’d like to stay in the platform. But I do a lot of towing so I’ve heavily considered a new Chevy 3500. Or maybe just a 3/4 ton power wagon w RamBoxes. We will see where the arrow is pointing as we get closer to replacement time. But this truck still has a lot of miles left in her.
Curious, my 2019 Bighorn only has 82k miles but the codes have been the air dam failure and o2 sensor which always goes off when I drive through the mountains in PA. Still on the original battery. I wonder if a low optioned trucks battery lasts longer?@@MrJustinWheeler
I have my 2020 Limited with 65k going into the shop in the next two weeks with The Grind happening from the front set ... I had the rotors and pads on the rear replaced maybe 18 months ago. Time for the front, I guess. If you made it to 230k miles with nothing ... how?? I tow, but not more than a couple of times a month ... i's not a pavement princess, but even so? Can you let me know where you got those mithril brake pads from????
Hey there, Justin! Just curious, I’ve watched all of the videos on this truck, but I can’t recall if you’ve had an issue with front sway bar links? My truck is an identical twin to yours right down to the ram boxes and the tires, I bought it brand new August 2019 and currently have 95,000 miles on it. I have replaced the sway bar links three times with OEM and they are rattling again. any suggestions for an aftermarket upgrade because I’m at a loss!
Nice. I also bought mine in August of ‘19. I have never touched the sway bar links. They haven’t given me a problem. Have you lifted/leveled yours or is it all stock?
@@MrJustinWheeler all stock. Only upgrades I’ve done are the tires, mopar performance cat back and mopar performance intake. All work done at the dealer due to a lifetime powertrain as long as they service it.

Interstate Battery. they help maintain your battery, clean your connections , test your battery all for free, even trouble the battery. on my Ram, interstate last a little over 6yrs compare to 4 yrs with todays new TRUCKS, when the battery gets low, all the lights come on
When reading a caliper you read the number, then say thousands. SO .625 is .625 thousands. Now what do the numbers mean. When that smart dude years ago figured this stuff out he busted an inch into 1000 parts. SO 5/8" is figured out 5 divided by 8 = .625 thousands. 1/2" is 1 divided by 2 = .500 thousands. 3/8" is 3 divided by 8 = .375 thousands. etc.

In America perhaps yoz are able to do stuff, but in Europe nobody has ideas about the problems of this Truck.
I paid through the nose for one of those. After 5k miles it died and I got stuck in first. Ended up just getting an oem battery that’s been fine for 20k now. I always had a high opinion of the yellow tops but either I got a dud (likely?) or there’s something incompatible with the truck…maybe something to do with lead acid vs AGM? Shouldn’t make a difference but I don’t know what else to attribute that to.

I have the same truck. I love it, but electrical issues on these things sucks so bad. I have come to absolutely hate the damn running boards. They stop opening and closing all the way and if they fail to close, they will drain your battery down to 0 volts. I actually thought it was a bad battery so I replaced it, but it happened again so that wasnt wasnt the probelm. These tricks are prone to electrical issues. If you get a crack in atail light or anything like that, get it fixed right away or you will end up stranded. I have my power running boards disabled. I wish they could be deleted. My RAM is 2020 just under 40k miles.

That’s why the type that are like a spring are used
Both of my trucks are in the garage untilmy RAM stranded me lastweek and it sitting outside where the towtruck left her...😂
I'd put a flat edge on the rotors to see if they are warped
Just wondering if the running boards were unavailable because it was in Drive and moving down the road.
That was my thought too.
Good jumper cables AND a good ground for the cable (On the truck)
That price may be a touch high. But if it’s been taken care of it’ll still give you years of trouble free service.
Have you ever changed the transmission fluid or the differential fluid?
Diff fluid, yes. Trans fluid, no… 😅 We are going to address that soon!
My pads and rotors still going strong at 131k miles.
I had a similar problem this morning. I have a z automotive Tazer DR installed and it fried my truck in -15 degree weather. I removed the tazer dt and everything went back to normal. I had it on my truck for over a year and it started acting up now.
I'm going to check out a 2019 ram 1500 tomorrow. Had a truck in Texas miss it. Sooo
Your heading made it look like your truck was going to be HISTORY!
Definitely felt that way while it was happening 😂
Hoping the battery replacement fixed the code issue!
How much did you pay the dealer to reset the module?
@@gustavocervantes60 $160, too much for what they actually did.
Let’s see you mile out a new tundra now and see how it stacks up to the ram.
Those new Tundras look nice!
@@MrJustinWheeler
Have your received the email for your cybertruck?
Yeah mine does the same. Been doing it since day 1. Hasn’t seemed to be a serious problem. But unsure whether it’s by design or not.
I can confirm they all do this had a 2020 that did it. My 2024 does it. And a 2023 I looked at did it. It's actually an oversteer stop by design.
@@gabevillarreal4779 exactly 💯. Project Farm is a great channel for these tests. Everhart for the win!
What size is the bigger battery that fits?
@carlos33193 I put in a AGM H8 battery, with the amount of electronics these trucks have I believe a bigger battery is better.
Can I suggest getting a topdon scanner they have one for under 100 smackers. Could help, just saying.
I went AGM for my 2019 Ram and 8 months later I’m having battery issues again. Theres something about these trucks that cause bad cells
Sounds like it would be a good idea to hook up a second battery like they do on diesels
Your lucky it's the battery my electronic rack and pinion just went bad and my truck is a 2019 and only 4 years old . And only has 45, 000 miles.
I love my truck and haven't had any problems
If you had to get a new truck tomorrow, what would it be?
How to reset remote wireless key fob, when the engine do not start. What is the problem
@@jonthompson6616 have they checked that the sway bar itself isn’t defective and putting the links in a bind?
@@MrJustinWheeler not to my knowledge. I’ll suggest that next time it goes in. Thanks brother! Keep the videos coming!
I don’t think this man uses his brakes. He just rolls to a stop at all times.
I had the same issue after bad battery. Itll all return after about 10hrs of sitting
Also you can disconnect the power for about 15 minutes and it will reset the codes itself.
Jump your battery is one thing. If the battery is bad you’re not getting enough amps to the system and you can try your electronics
I have a brand new 2023 Ram and drained the battery --- lots of warning lights and odd behavior after jumping with a battery pack. It settled down but was not great to experience 30 miles from civilization.
Wanted to get your recommendations on some upgrades. I have a early 2020 Laramie Longhorn. What are the top 5 modifications that you recommend for improvement? Thanks!
Made an entire video about this
@@TruckCentral Which video? Do you have the link to the one(s) you're thinking of? Would you amend your list today based on your experience so far? Thanks.
Interstate Battery.
they help maintain your battery, clean your connections , test your battery all for free, even trouble the battery.
on my Ram, interstate last a little over 6yrs compare to 4 yrs
with todays new TRUCKS, when the battery gets low, all the lights come on
What type of code reader is that?
What's the name of that shop light you're using there?
you need the interstate 850 crank has more power than the regular battery.
3/8" is 3 divided by 8 = .375 thousands. etc.
You need to get a new battery
I have always had good results with factory brake pads and shoes.....
If the battery keeps dying after you put a new one if it ever does in the future it’s gonna be your starter going out my dads ram kept going through battery’s cause his starter was going out he has a 2019 Ram 1500 as well but the big horn level 2 package crew cab 2wd in red with the led package
He has 179,000 still running like new no issues whatsoever
3:20 #TowGuyTv Was that jump box cold like was it outside in the truck noco don't work well cold i have had to wait for my jump pack to heat up and it works flawlessly
Yep. ICE cold!
You should buy a new Ram…the last V8 Ram.
It’s been on my mind!
This cold is hard on batteries
Yep. Just had to replace Jaxson’s last night.
probably got a wire or module failing that bus system all those are connected. There is a connector that is bad about that.
If yall could help me out i recently bought a 2019 rebel sport, 80k on the dash and already having problems. Everything works besides the truck actually starting, the engine tries to turn over but won’t fully start which made me think it was either the battery or starter, definitely wasn’t the battery so if yall have any suggestions they would be greatly appreciated.

My 2007 dodge charger rt is super sensitive to a bad battery. Wouldnt accelerate.
Trade that thing in man geeeez!
Time for a TRX🙄
Yeah just a bad battery. How many miles do you get to the tank on the truck?
On my 2019 Ram I have been getting a check engine code P0441 that it says evap system. I replaced the evap purge selinoid, and cleared the code. About 2 weeks later the same code came back. Any advice would be appreciated.
Try replacing the gas cap worked on my Dodge Journey and Dodge avenger that had an evap code.
@@Steven91992 Thanks for the advice but it is capless.
@@squid98989898No problem but the capless one's can also leak one time I had to replace one on a F-150 because it was leaking I had to replace the entire fuel neck assembly.
@@Steven91992 i would probably have to replace the whole assembly like you did. I hate to just throw parts at it not knowing. I might just buy a smoke tester to figure it out. Thanks for the help!
got a link for that light ?
It’s starting to feel like the manufacture has access into my vehicles system remotely and is causing these issues deliberately. My 2019 does to same thing every half year to year roughly so I hope it is TRULY over for yourself. IT WONT SHIFT OUT OF FIRST GEAR AS WE SPEAK ! Wow this sucks
After driving a 2019 Ram 1500 on my own ,you really become a real car mechatronic and you will know anything about the Car after it. You have to learn so much about Failure Codes etc. that you will become a living libary! Yeah its kind anoying and ruins such a cool.truck. In America perhaps yoz are able to do stuff, but in Europe nobody has ideas about the problems of this Truck.
I love my 2019 Laramie but daim these trucks are not meant for extreme rain that's for sure these electrical problems are killing me 😅
Your truck has turned into a transformer
Optima Yellowtop Battery 👍
That’s what I’ll be upgrading to next time.
What trim level is your truck?
Limited
my 2017 ram is shit dually diesel. burning wires after bcm. i dont even know what its gonna cost. dealer doesnt want to mess with it. garage i gave it to not responding
Get your multimeter and check your altenator first 😮
Subarus have the same issue with the dust shield rubbing. Who know why.
Getting scared..with all ur videos and ur dodge problems..just bought a 2019 ram longhorn..hope my luck is better..fingers crossed.
That’s rough man. Sorry you’re having all those issues. Luckily my running boards have never given me much problems.
That hose clamp don't look oem bud.
