    I have a 2015 with air suspension. To make the rear bags last longer, turn off the Aeromode setting under Suspension and don't use the lowest setting to get in and out of your truck. The rear bags, generally, only leak in the lowest setting, by the fold that you showed in the video.

      That is correct. I actually have lifting links connected to my ride hight sensors, so it always rides 1.75 inches over stock. And i always put it in off-road 1 when i park it in the garage, and they still only last 5-6 years. But great advice!!

      @@jamespenner1412 Curious about those lifting links. I tend to always have it lifted to off road 2 when allowed and I've noticed that the front tires outer edges have started to wear quite a bit. Have you noticed any unusual wear? I I do have the meaty BFG KO2 305s but that shouldn't matter. Seems that lifting it eats up the tires.
      Oh and btw... added some air line antifreeze this afternoon and I don't know if it's just me, but it seems to lift so much faster now. I dunno. Maybe lubed things up. Now staring at the bags to install hopefully tomorrow afternoon.

    • @jamespenner1412
      @jamespenner1412  28 днів тому

      @RRack i have noticed a bit of outer tire wear with the lifting links as well, you could get your front end camber adjusted for whatever the height you drive around in most. That would help with tire wear.

    I had an air ride problem and I was so thankful that I bought an extended warranty (Zurich, comprehensive) on my 2020 Limited. It took a while for the dealership to do the job, but I only paid a $100 deductible on what turned out to be $8000+ in parts and labor.

    Great video! I often find the rear on the bump stops in the morning on my 2017 Laramie Longhorn. Definitely leaking somewhere. Can a leak in one of the rear bags cause both rears to go flat? Or is my issue somewhere else such as the distribution block? Want to learn as much as I can before digging in. Hoping to get under there tomorrow with some soapy spray.

    • @jamespenner1412
      @jamespenner1412  Місяць тому +1

      @RRack if one bag is not shot, that bag will not be on the bump stop, unless your valve body for the compressor is frozen, then maybe, i can almost guarantee both rear bags are shot. I would highly suggest replacing both. Then it will be trouble free again for years.

      @RRack no problem, yes, milage dosen't matter, it's how old the bags are that matters, the rubber cracks and lets air out, I dont understand why the front ones are so much better quality then the back ones, but they are. At least the rear airbags are very cheap compared to the front bags. If you're going aftermarket anyway,

    I have the same issue with my left rear airbag on my 2017 ram 1500. I have ordered a new airbag from amazon. Just to clarify. Once you pull out the old airbag and replace it do you inflate it before lowering down the truck onto the suspension. I have heard if you don't do the initial inflation properly they explode. I just want to make sure I do this in the right sequence to avoid the explosion issue.

    • @jamespenner1412
      @jamespenner1412  11 місяців тому +1

      I dont know about any explosion issues. other then if the bag gets inflated and the bag is all crooked in the sleeve like i said in the video, it probably could explode. I would just install it, and with the tire still off, then put down the jack from under the truck and just inspect the air bag while inflating, or after it did inflate. The bag can go all crooked in the outer bag sleeve. Thats probably what they are talking about. Make sure the bag in properly inflated before i would pit on the tire.

    • @jamespenner1412

      @MalConsejo9 you dont, the system pumps it back in. If you watch the video it tells you what to do. The system is not a closed system like they claim. And air in 90 percent nitrogen. You just have to add some air line antifreeze to get rid of moisture in the system. Then your ready to go.

    James, I am looking to do this soon just picked up new rear airbags. Question: do you put the truck into exit/extry mode, disable the system and then change out the bags??? I don’t want to lose a ton of nitrogen, just had it refilled and the stealership charged $300 to fill.. trying to avoid that… I can give you my email if you’d like to correspond directly. Any hints you can give me would be greatly appreciated from a retired cop! Thanks!!

    • @jamespenner1412
      @jamespenner1412  10 місяців тому +3

      If you would put it into entry/exit mode, it would keep more nitrogen in the system, yes. Then i would put it in tire jack mode in the setting like i showed. That way, the pump won't turn on and cycle when you start changing out the bags! The system is not as complicated as they make it out to be. The steps i give you in the video should finish off the process. Be sure once the bags are installed to start the truck and put it in off road 1or 2 and make sure those bags are not inflating crooked like i show in the video. Thats probably the most important step. You want the bags inflating strait up and down.

      James another question for you. Since I am putting the vehicle in exit/entry mode when I put on the new air bags should I also compress the new bags since the truck thinks that all the air/nitrogen has been evacuated and once I get the air line on (hopefully iam able to keep the bag compressed) then go into the truck and put it to level 2 and then put the fuse back in and let it do its thing? Just don’t want the control module under the seat going bonkers because there might be latent air in the bags… making any sense??

    • @jamespenner1412
      @jamespenner1412  10 місяців тому

      @missyvanwinkle9159 However, the bags stay while installing them is fine. You dont need to keep them completely compressed, but i think somwhat compressed is the best way to install them. But if not all the way, it should be fine.

The compressor runs, then overheats without changing my ride height. I checked for suction on the intake hose of my compressor and don't feel any. Think my compressor is shot? Would filling with nitrogen possibly help?

      @@jamespenner1412 thank you, it wasnt leaking from the fitting at all i did the bubbles. I eventually got it to work. What i had to dovwas lower the jack just a little so the bag was just barely seated on the frame, turn on the truck, let a tiny bit of air into it to catch the frame( so it didnt over fill and jump off the seating) and then repeat till it was all the way down. I think my problem was the jack point. I lifted the axel to the deflated bag instead of how he jacked the body up from the spareand lowered the new bag to the frame i did it opposite lol I felt like the ride height position sensor was in off road height while jacked up and wasnt trigfering it to fill because it alreay thought it was full. It takes awhile by ones self but litle at a time then wait 2 min for the system to react then repeat. Pretty sure was my fault with my jack points. Thank you again for responding

    I've got a '16 and my airbag on the right rear will sometimes bottom out just sitting at a light. What's really strange is, it never happens all the time, only randomly. If I air up to Off Road 1 before the pump overheats , sometimes it'll stay up just fine as long as I keep it under 40. Did you ever experience something like that? Any ideas?

    • @jamespenner1412
      @jamespenner1412  8 місяців тому +1

      Yes thats the exact thing they do. In off road 1 or 2 it pinches off the cracks and then it stays full but on lower settings they leak. Its a classic sign your rear bags are shot. Id recommend doing both rear bags.

      @@jamespenner1412 Thank you for the info - you're the first person I've run into who had a definitive answer to my symptoms.

      I have owned my truck long enough that all those symptoms have come up. Even if you pin point the bag in the back that is leaking, it wont be long till you have trouble with the other. If you do them both in the rear you should be good for 5+ years without problems. I would make sure to put air line antifreeze in the system after you do the job. It takes out moisture and ensures problem free service in the cold!

    How much does this cost?

    • @jamespenner1412
      @jamespenner1412  9 місяців тому

      $1000 per bag, plus they would like to replace the pump at the same time. Which is another $2000 Canadian. When i do it, i buy both rear bags for $300 total and a bit of time. It probably takes an hour on each side.
