  • I was warned by the sales person not to buy this MSI Codex R pre-built gaming PC. They said most of them get return, so I decided the best thing to do was buy it and see what's up.

    Good news everyone!
I put the Adata drive back into the system and reinstalled Windows on it.
I've been gaming on it all day and ran a two hour Aida 64 run without a single bluescreen of death.
The problem is clearly a broken Windows install image that MSI used for this system.
If you have one of these PC's and have crashing issues, just reinstall Windows and you'll be golden.

    • @waitandhope
      @waitandhope 3 роки тому +36

No I can't see that, more likely the issue hasn't happened because the triggering cause is not surfacing often. I'd wait a good month of use before determining it's gone simply from an OS reinstall. But I would also download the latest on Intel chipset drivers and install them. Good luck hopefully it keeps running!

Have you tried updating the SSD's firmware? I had a similar experience but with a different SSD brand. It was really slow and BSOD from time to time. I updated the firmware of said SSD and the system hasn't had a problem since.

@@waitandhope Considering that it's consistent across most purchases of the system, or all, I'd say it's a bad install image as well. Because the drive in question wouldn't have such a high failure rate that general consumers wouldn't notice. The sad part is that MSI nailed it on the coffin when it comes to how a prebuilt should be, but they let this little thing slip. That, and the single RAM stick.

I went through two of these in the course of 48 hours before finding reports on the msi forums about the same issue. To their credit, my store not only handled returns flawlessly, they also wound up auditing and removing the model from their entire inventory system. I had a diversity of bluescreens as I attempted different fixes, including a lot of critical process errors. Some users reported a fix by reformatting the ssd. All of this was very frustrating for a bloke like me who bought this specifically so I wouldn't have to do the internals work and could have a decent experience.

Hey there.. I purchased an Aegis system from MSI: i7-10700KF, 16 GB (dual channel), 512 GB SSD (same ADATA Drive) + 1TB WD Black SATA, with RTX2060 Super. For the low, low, price of $1300. As you mentioned in your video.. the current cost of just the graphics card is near the price of the machine. Just a note, the exact model number is Aegis R 10SC-017US.
From the get-go, the system was completely unstable. Solution - replace the SSD. When I called MSI, their chat support was terrible and actually had me trying to upgrade the bios with the wrong image, they told me they were having issues with the SSD. I swapped to a 1TB WD Black NVME and nearly all my problems were gone. I say nearly because the network was running about 10% of its expected capacity. After another full windows reset and all is finally well. I want to mention that I've upgraded the ram with some Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro, 2 16GB sticks.
Since the last windows reset and the upgrades. the system has been flawless. I purchased this in an attempt to nudge my way back into the PC world and see if I can actually create content on a PC vs having to just use my Mac. I plan on documenting my "struggle" to make the conversion.. I guess we'll see how it goes.
Thanks for the video.. I figured I'd toss in my .02 to let you know that you found the hart of the problem. Tha ADATA drive and MSI gear do not get along. And it's not just that motherboard.
    Cheers

I think the issue could be that MSI installs Windows on a separate machine to the SSD and then installs it into the gaming pc. This would explain that “setting up” screen at the start and the random blue screens. I’ve tried porting my old windows to my new computer once I got a new mobo but despite all of my efforts I just had random blue screens or errors. All of which were fixed once I re installed windows.

Felt that you cut the defect investigations a little short. With the ADATA you were getting blue screens. You replaced it with a Seagate with a fresh windows install and that appears to resolve the blue screen issue. So you concluded that it looks like the ADATA hardware or the MSI Windows install. So why did you stop there. Next thing would be to swap the ADATA back in and see whether the blue screens return. If they do then put a fresh Windows install on the ADATA and see whether the blue screens persist. With those tests you would be able to conclude with reasonable confidence whether it was (1) the SATA connection, (2) the ADATA hardware, (3) the windows install or (4) something other than the SSD

Bought a similar one from Memory Express in December, Codex R 10th 10sc-004ca with the RTX2060. Same issue, replaced the hard drive (ADATA SU750) in the first week of troubleshooting. No issues since, and Memory Express RMA'd the hard drive with MSI and sent a Kingston M.2 in return. It's been going strong ever since.
On a side note, they are definitely aware of the issue from what I can tell.

Funny enough, I have the Aegis Msi build that has the i5-10400f and 1660 super and the same H410 motherboard. Only difference is it has a HDD, And I bought it from Walmart for $900 USD in January of 2021.
I have had this build for 2 years now and I’ve used it to stream and game and video edit and all this stuff that can be extensive of the components.
Funny thing is, I’ve never had the Blue screen issue. I just recently upgraded the CPU to the i9-10850k since it was the 400 chipset and fit the LGA1200 socket. Quite a bit of a difference in performance.
The other thing is since there are only two DDR4 slots, I made the decision to go overkill with a 32gb RAM kit. That’s helped allot.
The major downside of my build is it came in the Aegis SE pre built case. Aka NO AIR MOVEMENT. So to remedy this I just run it without the side panel. I have plans of moving it into a better case in the future. Along with a GPU upgrade. But as of now, it runs pretty well for High settings on most all games I play.
All in all I am actually impressed with the build from MSI.
I’d give it a solid 3.5/5 stars. Airflow is a HUGE problem with this build. Along with the i5-10400f not being great. It Only has a rear exhaust fan paired with the cheap RGB OEM cpu cooler.

I have this computer from MSI. Codex R 10SC-005CA w/ Core™ i7-10700F, 16GB, 512GB M.2 SSD +1TB HDD, GeForce RTX 2060, Win 10, GK30Keyboard + Clutch GM11 Mouse I purchased in Oct 2020 . the only problem I had was with my headset, and that was not from MSI. MSI support was a dream, good support and very fast, as the headset was not a MSI product and did not have to support me for it. I have not had the bluescreen at all.

Those blue screens are memory issues I think lol. Happened to me while playing battlefront 2 last night which is a heavy game overall.

Before he even gets going I want to point out that I have used a lot of that brand of 2.5" SSD and I have had a lot of failure right out of the box.

My husband bought one of these after I read reviews and forums to discover it was indeed the Windows image that was the problem. Before I even tried to fire it up after getting it out of the box, I did a clean Windows install, and it never once gave him a problem. All in all, it's a solid system, especially for the price when it goes on sale (his model has the 11th-gen Core i5, dual-channel RAM, and RTX 3060 TI which we got for about $800 new).
The weirdest part of it was the fact that the fans' RGB cables were plugged into a chintzy hub on the back of the case instead of the ARGB headers on the motherboard. Once I switched those cables to the on-board JRAINBOW headers, they were much better through MSI's Mystic Light software. Not sure why MSI chose to go the route they did, but it was an easy enough fix.

I actually just bought the MSI Aegis R desktop last week. It has a 10700kf and a 2060 super. I'm pretty hapy with it. The only change I made was adding a 2TB samsung SSD I had. It hasn't caught on fire yet.

I had the same Problem on a MSI B550 A-Pro with a SanDisk SSD. Changed the SDD and everything runs just fine.
